I'd say that we are just the beneficiary of Steinbrenner's goal to make sure that the Red Sox didn't get Colon. Regardless.....KW still looks good. I'm not happy about getting Colon....OK, maybe I am....but the reason I'm happiest right now is because of the fact that OSUNA IS NOT ON THE WHITE SOX ANYMORE! THROW A f***ING CELEBRATION EVERYONE!

He's mobile, he's got a decent arm, he throws a lot of picks, he'd be a better receiver.... The NFC North would have two QBs like that....Kordell and Daunte Culpepper. I'd say that the Bears should do it anyways....the very worst that can happen is that you get a decent receiver/quarterback in the end, regardless of whether or not he wants to be receiver.

Damn....in all the excitement, I forgot about Dan Wright....how the hell do you forget a guy like Dan Wright? Anyways, I'd have those two battle for a spot....and then whoever wins it out of ST is the #5 starter, and the other is a swing man. That way Diaz and all the other important ones stay in the minors. As for becoming a GM someday....what? You didn't ask me that? am i the only one who thinks that wright may be a little better than garland? As of right now....I'd call it probably a draw...Wright is more inconsistent, and gives up more homers, but when he has his 'A' game working, he is un-f***in-hittable. However, Garland is more consistent and puts up better numbers....not to mention that he is younger as well. Wright has more endurance and has higher ups and lower downs.....I'd prefer a guy like Garland in my rotation than Wright. As for the seven players we would give up....it would be worth it. We don't get hurt as badly as it would sound(giving up seven players sounds like you are getting f***in hosed) but getting 2 great pitchers and another decent outfielder that covers a possible weakness is worth it. Now with our luck, come Soxfest, KW will announce the signing of Kenny Lofton....shiiiit. -
It would be like this only if we got Colon and Vazquez for Stewart and Ginter, or something like that...this isn't like Sirotka for Wells or anything...if it is a decent trade, than it is a decent trade. How do people know that Scheurholz in ATL wasn't just doing Ed Wade a favor by trading him Kevin Millwood for Johnny Estrada? People should understand it is a salary dump, and that the players they get in return will help both teams in the long run....only if it was a total screw over would anyone be suspicious.

John Ligue and son....that's the kind of person I see hitting their wives. White trash, s***hole people. You talk to her, and the worst you do is grab a hold of her hands....no swinging, no nothing like that. Talk to her and calm her down....etc. Just hold her hands.

I'd take Jon Garland Jr.

Roman...are you s***tin me? The only way I'd give up Borchard is if we got Colon, Vazquez and Brad Wilkerson....Borchard has that much potential and is worth that much to the organization. If we traded him, that would be the biggest waste of $5.3 million this club ever did waste. Borchard is damn near untouchable....end of story. -
what is this, mil is becoming the sox minor league team? Milwaukee was once a minor league team, and they were once owned by Bill Veeck. I'm sure we all know who Bill Veeck is. LDF, maybe you're right.

HSC....you saw how much the Giants and Angels shares went up after they got to the World Series.....imagine if a team like the Sox, who haven't won jack s*** since really 1959, go on and either get to or win a World Series....the demand for White Sox shares may just go up....you consider this, the fact that attendance will increase, popularity of the White Sox as a whole will increase, and all in all, we could be building something for the future. I know JR hasn't dished out a long term contract to a pitcher before...but I gotta ask this. When was the last time a pitcher brought the White Sox, no, when was the last time a pitcher brought JR a World Series? That's right...no pitcher ever has. I think he'd like a pitcher more that brought him a World Series, even if he his 40 pounds overweight....he would think less about giving pitchers(such as Buehrle and Colon) money if they brought him a World Series. Maybe you're right...you probably are. I'm just hopeful that this is kind of like A Christmas Carol, when Scrooge is a mean bastard and then is nice....that's all we have is hope.
-
Give them Osuna....that frees up another $2.5 mill from that deal, which makes it approx. $12 million on to their salary, and then they could take on $1 mill of each's contract. That only adds on around $10 mill or so.
-
Well, mac, I think you may be right. I'd still be willing to do a Malone, Stewart, Biddle, Paul and Liefer for Colon and Vazquez(and maybe Peter Bergeron for Ginter in a seperate move that is just considered to be in the package). We'd be getting the better end of the deal.
-
Hot pockets are pretty damn good, aren't they? HOT POCKETS KICK ASS!
-
Count the Yankees out...I don't know why they would even consider it....they're f***ing retards if they do. They're already about $45-$50 million over the luxury tax limit, and they want to add more? What kind of f***ing psycho is George Steinbrenner? Selig can't allow him to do that.
-
What the f*** is wrong with that radio station? Ramiro Mendoza signed with Boston.
-
We're giving up too much, IMO. I'm higher on Malone than I am Stewart...but both are good pitchers. I'd say give them Stewart over Colon...and give them Liefer over Hummel too....otherwise, I'm fine with it. They get some offense as well as pitching, and we get what we want. If they want, we'll even throw in Jon Adkins!
-
C-Dub...I figure that if we do in fact get Colon, then we will want to resign him, and if we want to give Buehrle a decent contract, then we will need some money....unless JR is willing to dish out some money, which he isn't too fond of doing, than we probably won't keep CLee....he will probably cost somewhere around $6-7 mill next year, and if we can use a better ball player all around(though Carlos is a better hitter) in Aaron Rowand as a stop gap for Anthony Webster, I'd rather do that....we're going to have Rowand in CF this year....and then we'll have Borchard waiting in the wings. Why should we put AR in that kind of situation again? He was given the starting job last year and then at the last second we signed Kenny Lofton....Lofton stunk after the first month and that left Aaron on the bench again. I like Lee's bat....and that's it. He's a douche on the basepaths, he's a douche in the field and he couldn't throw out a runner to save his life. If Borchard is ready next year, let's give him the job in LF out of ST.....we didn't pay him $5.3 mill to sit in the minors. Give Aaron 4 years or so, and then let him go, with Webster coming in and filling in his spot. Unless of course this whole thing comes crashing down....if we get Colon and/or Vazquez, and we suck next year, trade away everything and rebuild. This, IMO, is now or never, assuming we get Colon. Damnit, I keep saying assuming...I want to say with Colon and yadda yadda yadda.
-
So maybe he was worth Matt Karchner after all!
-
Amen indeedy. The Sox are division winners with just one of those two...and possible World Series winners with both....right now, if we made it to the playoffs and made no other moves....we would have Jon Garland going up against Mike Mussina or Tim Hudson or Jamie Moyer or Derek Lowe or someone like that....we'd be f***in dicked after Buehrle. But with Garland as the #4 starter, we have him going up against the Kevin Appier's of the world and pitchers on 3 days rest....odds are, the odds would be in our favor...along with our lineup and bullpen. Guys....this team is starting to get me very, very excited....then again, I haven't had baseball in near 2 in a half months, so that's another reason. Only a month until pitchers and catchers report.....and if two of those pitchers can be Colon and Vazquez, I'd be part of a group of people that would be the happiest on Earth...Chicago White Sox fans.
-
It wouldn't show favoritism towards JR if we gave up some slugs....because Texas could just make the same move. The article said that Tom Hicks is also on the committee....if any team needs starting pitching more than us to compete, it's them. I hate to say this, because it will just backfire on me and turn false....but I think this one's in the bag.

You kiddin me? I'd trade Colon for a young stud pitcher and a good hitter in a second...the only problem is is that we wouldn't be able to do that, unless we were, for some unknown reason, out of it at the deadline. Then and only then would a team make that kind of trade. That is the exact kind of thing that the Expos have been trying to do now for about 2 months, and no one has actually pulled off a deal yet. Jas....I wouldn't count on the Mets trading for Colon....because, as you said, they don't have the minor league talent to get it done. They'd have to deal Timo Perez, Jose Reyes and Aaron Heilman to even be considered....and if Phillips is a smart GM, he'd realize that that move would hurt his team more than it would help it....Heilman is a pretty good pitcher and Reyes is a 19 year old SS who's got 25/25 potential....and Timo is a pretty good player in his own right...the Mets would also be spending another $8 million, and in the end, they'd probably get the bad end of the entire deal. If the Red Sox are really out of it, then I'd look for us to make a move for Colon and/or Vazquez. Trade Osuna, Liefer, Paul, Biddle, Stewart, Sanders, and Ginter for Colon and Vazquez....Osuna is basically a salary eater and is a bullpen pitcher for them. Liefer covers their 1B/OF need and is given the chance to start, something he has wanted for a long ass time now. Paul is basically taken off our chest and this then gives them room to trade Barret. Biddle and Stewart are starters that fill in Colon and Vazquez holes in the rotation(and Colon literally left a hole). Sanders and Ginter are throw-ins to sweeten the deal. We get Colon and Vazquez...I shouldn't have to explain what they are used for. About 5 of the 7 guys we traded would have been on our roster this year, but it could have been anywhere from 4-7....we'll say 5. Those include Osuna(who makes about $2.5 mill next year) Liefer(who makes $300,000), Paul($300,000), Biddle($300,000) and Ginter($300,000). That adds on about $11 mill on our salary or so....and if they have to get rid of a combined total of $15 mill, then they can trade Tatis and take on $2 mill of his salary or so. Our rotation is then amongst the best in the league(Colon, Buehrle, Vazquez, Garland, Rauch); our bullpen remains very good(Koch, Wunsch, Glover, Marte, Almonte, and maybe Diaz or someone like that) and our lineup remains virtually the same. We can fill in the bench from there, though we give up mainly pitchers. That move would help the team and not ruin the farm system....I would do it in a second....and I think Montreal would too. -
I think it was.....he may have asked for some new teeth and a personal trainer as well. He also wrote in small print that he wants a McDonald's constructed in his house, so he can have a Big Mac anytime he wants to.

For those who want yet another legit source that we are in the Colon/Vazquez race, check this out: Ken Rosenthal's Inside Dish What catches my eye here is that he says Vazquez first, and then later on Colon....either I am getting scared that we will be getting Vazquez rather than Colon, or he worded it badly. Vazquez is a great pitcher...but I want Colon. He's pitched in the AL Central and has had success....I don't want a guy that has potential to be something incredibly good but gives us a 12-15 win season with an ERA of 4.00 or so....that's not the typical definition of an ace. I want Colon. Then again, I'll take both of them too!
-
The only bad thing about this is is the fact that the Cubs will consistently beat the living daylights out of the Brewers now....they will then consider themselves contenders since they can beat the worst team in the major leagues(even worse than Detroit or Tampa Bay).

Sn Report: Sox Inch Closer to Colon as Market Dies
witesoxfan replied to Chisoxfn's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Don't be surprised if Boston makes one last attempt at that cost then I'd atleast give them something of value...hell, give them Liefer....atleast he'll get a shot to start them. If he doesn't start in Montreal, he'll finally figure out that he's not much better than a bench player.
