  1. I'm really excited to watch the LCS's and the World Series, and I don't know why, because I really don't like any of the 4 teams involved.
  2. hay what do u guyz think bout bringin back urlacher? i think he still good, what u think
  3. I don't think Dunn is immoveable or immobile, he runs the bases fairly easily when he hits home runs. He also puts his head down and sobs pretty well too on his way back to the dugout.
  4. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Oct 11, 2013 -> 11:51 AM) http://www.tmz.com/2013/10/11/adrian-peter...ce-child-abuse/ Hopefully it's coincidental, but I know a 27 year old Joseph Patterson from South Dakota.
  5. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Oct 11, 2013 -> 11:40 AM) Yeah we've been arguing semantics for the last 500 pages. We clearly all agree on what you're claiming about Adam Dunn's skillset -- but we disagree on the definition of "aberration." Which I f***ing posted earlier in the thread, IT'S LITERALLY RIGHT UP THERE
  6. FanGraphs had Alexei Ramirez as the 6th best defensive shortstop in the AL this year. Also from 2010-2013, Alexei Ramirez has had the highest UZR of any SS in the majors. He got a little clumsy with the ball this year, but he's still the best defensive shortstop the White Sox have
  7. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Oct 11, 2013 -> 10:58 AM) http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/eye-on-baseba...-to-quad-strain All right there for you. Was hitting over .300 with a .360 Obp. Power wasn't there but I thin the wrist could be at fault, and his UZR was really good. You keep pointing out his range is getting worse. The guy had a leg injury. Then the organization should have taken a stand when it was clear it was affecting him that much and DL'd him. Someone should be blamed for Beckham sucking, and if we aren't going to blame Beckham, then I am going to blame the organization.
  8. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Oct 11, 2013 -> 10:35 AM) The greatest 3-point shooter of all-time hit, um, a 3-pointer. How exactly was that a miracle? LeBron misses a 3, Bosh hits the ball to get it outside, somehow finds its way into Ray Allen's hands, he gets the shot off, and drills the 3 with a hand in his face, all in a matter of about 4 seconds. The fact that it went in is not miraculous, but the fact that the ball got to him in the manner that it did is the miracle.
  9. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Oct 11, 2013 -> 10:29 AM) How did two teams who ultimately lost to the Heat show us how to beat the Heat? That makes less than negative sense. The Spurs were a miracle shot away from beating the Heat. Come on dude
  10. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Oct 11, 2013 -> 09:48 AM) Each of the past 2 seasons, he has been 2011 awful or close to it for 3 months out of 6. So he has been just as awful the last 2 seasons as he was in 2011 half the time. So even the past 2 seasons, his complete aberration has been just as typical of a performance as the "good" Adam Dunn. In fact his last 2 seasons look like an aberration if you look at the first 10 or 11. I hope he is the June, July, August of 2013 Adam Dunn next year, but chances are, for at least half of next season, just like in 2012 and 2013, he will perform just like the performance you call a complete aberration. MOVING THE GOALPOSTS I'm not debating whether or not Adam Dunn is a streaky player. I'm not debating anything. I'm telling you, and you are disputing what is, to this point in time, a fact - Adam Dunn's 2011 is an aberration. Are you really disputing the FACT that Adam Dunn has never once in his career posted anything close over the course of a full season to the .569 OPS he put up in 2011? Quit arguing just to argue. You are attempting to make an argument against concrete being hard.
  11. And now I feel like an idiot for misspelling. Still, here's the definition ab·er·ra·tion/ˌæbəˈreɪʃən/ Show Spelled [ab-uh-rey-shuhn] Show IPA noun 1. the act of departing from the right, normal, or usual course. 2. the act of deviating from the ordinary, usual, or normal type. 3. deviation from truth or moral rectitude. 4. mental irregularity or disorder, especially of a minor or temporary nature; lapse from a sound mental state. 5. Astronomy . apparent displacement of a heavenly body, owing to the motion of the earth in its orbit. Now, here are Adam Dunn's OPS's from year to year .948 .854 .819 .956 .927 .855 .940 .898 .928 .892 .569 .800 .762 You tell me Dick, do any of those look like they depart or deviate from the norm?
  12. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Oct 11, 2013 -> 09:06 AM) Obviously facts won't stand in your way. The last 3 months of 2012, combined, he hit below .200 with an OBP below .300, and had to be held out of the final game so he wouldn't establish a record for striking out in a season. Last year in April, May and September his highest average was .165, and highest OBP was .250. That is half a season. While players do fluctuate, he is abnormally bad for extremely long periods of time. He was extremely good the other 3 months of 2013, so he obviously has or at least had something left. To think anyone being reasonable would be shocked if Adam Dunn was that bad again is a reach. In 2011, he had 6 months where he played like that. It was a complete abberation. He is an incredibly streaky player, but 2011 is in a league all of its own. To say it wasn't an abberation is to say that Adam Dunn is not only "capable" but is, in fact, likely to put up a .159 BA and .569 OPS again over the course of a full season. Are you arguing that, or are you arguing that he's a streaky player?
  13. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 11, 2013 -> 08:10 AM) To be fair...you shouldn't cite guys whose switch came in the shape of a needle. There are about 50-100 other examples. Hitters do have a tendency to just find their stroke and explode.
  14. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Oct 11, 2013 -> 08:31 AM) People should probably stop taking children's sports so seriously. But then how would they live out their own failed dreams?! Well I do it with video games
  15. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Oct 11, 2013 -> 08:10 AM) I wouldn't say complete aberration. He still goes through rather long stretches where he looks like he is back to that. He obviously has made himself useful again, and hopefully the real nice stretch he sandwiched between a couple of extended 2011-like stretches he had this year, is what he can be next season. Every player goes through stretches where they look like dogs***. It was a complete abberation.
  16. Oh, and the "way" to beat the Heat was shown by the Pacers and Spurs last year...get a couple shooters on the wings, get a good presence down low, get a slasher, and an athletic player who can drive and force them into a decision, and then play tight, tight defense. It's not "get 3 point shooters and shoot all day."
  17. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Oct 10, 2013 -> 11:45 PM) Miami? No. The other two? Stop it. It's a team with slow and old players run by a rookie head coach who is going to want to run, run, run. It's a perfect recipe for poor defense, fatigue, and injuries. Hell, the Knicks might be better. If you want to talk about a team that can space the floor and drill it from 3, that is the team that can do it. And they still get rolled by the Heat. I just don't think Pierce and Garnett are a good fit schematically on that team. Take those 2 (and Terry, I guess) away from the Nets, and you are looking at a team that suffered a 1st round loss to a rather pedestrian Bulls team, yet suddenly, yet somehow Old Man Pierce and Denture Adventure Garnett are going to push them into a top 3 team in the league? You're crazy.
  18. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Oct 10, 2013 -> 10:57 PM) IDK, I would have played Mathews instead. Turd. To be fair, Steve did break Rose playing 7 months early, so maybe he's just a sports hipster.
  19. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Oct 10, 2013 -> 11:00 PM) Just read that Marshall wore his green cleats. What's his fine? Also, f*** yeah Brandon Marshall. Where was Kaiser Goodell to stop him from coming onto the field?
  20. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Oct 11, 2013 -> 01:09 AM) I don't know about that, either. He's been "somewhat productive," but not nearly to the level he was for the previous 5-7 years when he was in his NL prime. Neither one is a good or safe investment. No, he has proven that 2011 was a complete abberation. Arguing that is like arguing that the color black is really purple.
  21. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Oct 10, 2013 -> 06:23 PM) No way. The Nets are a terrible match-up for the Bulls. You beat a Thibs-style defense with spacing, passing and shooting. The Nets have all that and then some. Pacers are a much better match-up for the Bulls. The Nets bloooooooooooooow
  22. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 10, 2013 -> 06:34 PM) Can you chase a slider out of the zone with reckless abandon? I'll make Juan Uribe look like Frank Thomas with my discipline. Not only do I swing at low and away sliders, I also chase 53 foot curveballs, I'm way ahead of changeups, way behind fastballs, and will roll over every sinker thrown to me. I do hit underhand pitches very well.
  23. QUOTE (ChiSoxFan05 @ Oct 10, 2013 -> 06:23 PM) That would be lethal. Especially considering that Verlander, Sanchez, and Fister is already a good rotation, although obviously Scherzer makes them better. All this talk makes me angry because I'm sure we'd get more for Sale considering his age and contract. And then suck for 5 years Seriously, when you get elite talent, you don't get rid of it unless there is no way you are going to be able to retain it. Chris Sale, after this season, will have been a starter for 2 full seasons and will have 2 top 10 Cy Young finishes. Not even Kershaw can claim that. Sale is a stud and, since Harvey's injury, is probably the most valuable pitcher in the league.
  24. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 10, 2013 -> 06:04 PM) Are you injured, old, and left handed? Unfortunately, I am healthy, young, and right handed. I do suck if that helps.
  25. QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Oct 10, 2013 -> 05:53 PM) I still see Viciedo as a potential 275/35/100 guy with an OBP around 330. In this era, that's a real valuable player. He did hit 25 homers as a 23 year old in his first full season. He's the type of player you try to acquire in a rebuild and we already have him. Nelson Cruz was 27 when he finally saw the switch. That is the thing with hitters - it's almost more rare that you see a gradual increase, but instead you just see the flip switch on.
