QUOTE (Marty34 @ Jan 25, 2013 -> 01:34 PM) At the very least, throwing AB after AB away in July, August, and September by not platooning Viciedo doesn't give me a ton of faith in Ventura. Sticking with a young player while he's struggling so he can work through it and improve as a player? Especially during months like July and August. Maybe his monster September happened in part due to fighting through those struggles. Yeah, consider my faith in Ventura lost.

When I started doing cardio in January on the elliptical, I did interval training for 30 minutes at resistances of 5 and 8. Now I do intervals for the first half hour at 6 and 9, the next 20 minutes at 7 and 10, and the final 10 at 8 and 12. I'm sure I'll keep going up. I'm still losing weight. I also can't stand running on treadmills either, which is why I prefer the elliptical if I'm focusing on cardio.

QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Jan 25, 2013 -> 11:31 AM) To be fair the word I used that apparently makes you all cry for TEH OPPRESSED GAYS IN R CUONTRY is often used with zero connotation to homosexuals. See the Louis CK skit if this goes over your head. It is still highly offensive to homosexuals, just as the n-word is highly offensive to African Americans, even if it isn't used with that connotation.

Anyone know where the exacto knife went? We need to remove his resistance nodule.

QUOTE (Y2HH @ Jan 25, 2013 -> 10:30 AM) Wait...not so fast. Mine also kicked in, so I countered your counter and was able to create a stand off...when we both realized Jake was standing there laughing at the whole thing, so we decided to throw him in, instead. Laugh at that, Jakemeister. s*** just got real

QUOTE (Marty34 @ Jan 25, 2013 -> 10:28 AM) Development takes a distant back seat to winning games in August & September when the team is in a pennant race. And yet, the Sox were in first place with two weeks to go, and he was hardly the only one who struggled in those final two weeks. I can't even point to WAR or anything in this situation - if, like, 2 guys step up and play better, the Sox, at the very least, likely have a play-in game against Detroit. Instead, Detroit got hot, the Sox got cold, and they lost the division.

QUOTE (Y2HH @ Jan 25, 2013 -> 10:14 AM) I tried this overnight oats last night, and it sucked. Ok, it didn't suck...but still. I waited 8+ hours for some Oatmeal. This is the kind of thing that gets you beaten up on the meathead man 'da bears' 'da coach' playground. If you told me you slow cooked some ribs for 8+ hours, you da man...have a beer and chug that b****...but when you tell me you took 8 hours to make some Oatmeal, you need to be thrown in a puddle of mud. All of you. Too bad my overnight oats kicked in, I countered you throwing me into the mud, and in turn threw you into the mud. Checkmate!

QUOTE (chw42 @ Jan 25, 2013 -> 09:44 AM) First I thought you were bashing Prado for being inconsistent...then you lay down the good trade for both teams line. I'm confused. His game is entirely dependent upon his average and I really don't see any reason he shouldn't hit. He's also a good defender, but not 1.7 wins good. A 3-4 win player is about what I expect, but he's been streakier than most. -

They're preventing the numbers from even existing in the first place. Worrying that someone might misconstrue the results of a study is not a good reason to prevent that study from ever taking place. Why do they work so hard to make it nearly impossible to enforce what weak gun laws we do have? !!!! As I said, I don't know, I'm not a member of the NRA, I don't particularly care for the NRA, and I wish they were more open to negotiation and compromise.

Tough for Chicago to prove last season's surprising run wasn't

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 25, 2013 -> 09:07 AM) Serious Q, can you give me a good reason to have confidence that Angel Sanchez will be a solid addition? Basically, I'm thinking back to last year, how bad our bench wound up being (particularly after Escobar was traded), how it wound up with Robin having no confidence in it, and how that probably contributed to guys wearing down at the end of the season. I mean, .240 average, sub.600 OPS last year isn't a hard sell, so can you tell me he'll be any better than that? His entire purpose is to play defense. If he can bring it with the glove, he can hit .200. I had no problem with Escobar doing this, and I had no problem with Hudson doing this (once that became his role). -
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jan 25, 2013 -> 09:07 AM) So why has the NRA worked so hard to prevent any sort of data-gathering and analysis? To preserve personal liberties, to prevent numbers from being skewed and misquoted, whatever, I have no idea. I'm not a member of the NRA, don't particularly care for the NRA, and I wish they'd be a little more willing to negotiate and compromise.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 25, 2013 -> 08:50 AM) Which is why the NRA has worked so hard to prevent anyone from doing that research, because they don't want anyone doing research that supports their case? You're kidding me. There are millions upon millions upon millions of guns, and the amount of gun murders is at like, what, 10,000 per year, give or take, right? And you are talking about roughly 270,000,000 guns owned in the United States, right? So you are talking about .0037% (or less) of guns cause murders, and that's if you simply divy out 1 murder per weapon, which, as we've found out, is not correct either. Even in the most lenient of scenarios, you are talking 1 in 300 guns causing a murder, and even that is not realistic. It's

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 25, 2013 -> 08:46 AM) Eh...we need bench help still, not just catcher, a utility guy would be really useful. Maybe as a guy who can put on a glove and stand in a number of different spots around the field - a guy like Kelly Johnson perhaps. Otherwise, I think Angel Sanchez has it locked down just fine. -
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 25, 2013 -> 08:48 AM) I think its Lindstrom because they haven't been able to announce it yet. Hahn was on CSN the other day and noted Iguchi was acquired after Soxfest, and Thornton and Marte were spring training pick ups. Despite what several panicked posters have posted, he knows there are holes and will continue to try to fill them. I have no idea if he will be a good GM or not, but it is really unfair for anyone to take shots at him now. Are you sure he didn't take an immediate 6 week vacation after the Winter Meetings?

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 25, 2013 -> 07:18 AM) Or we could do what we do with guns and ban doctors, researchers, and pharmacists from doing that research. No, you just bring in an unbiased parties to research, who is going to look at the number of guns owned versus the number of intentional shootings in the United States. They'd likely come to the conclusion that the economical way to handle the situation would be to do nothing. For the record, I have no problem with additional steps being required for gun ownership, but there's simply no reason to take guns away, including automatic weapons.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 25, 2013 -> 08:09 AM) Other thing to worth considering is that he was a free agent, so that means he also wants to come back and work with Cooper again. Considering how many warm bodies there are competing for the Sox rotation/bullpen, that's interesting also. Claimed off waivers. Zach Stewart might hate pitching for the White Sox for all we know.

QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Jan 25, 2013 -> 12:30 AM) Actually you'd probably want to bring in doctors, researchers and pharmacists in who are familiar with the effects certain drugs have on the body. s***, no more bars, only one glass of red wine a night for me and you and everyone else, because alcohol is DANGEROUS
