  1. He's also been having some second thoughts as well. I'm guessing he'll come back, but it's not out of the realm of possibility that he's thrown his last pitch
  2. QUOTE (klaus kinski @ Oct 30, 2012 -> 09:15 AM) He's as good as gone, and it will be a sad day. Keeping him is worth the money. No one around seems to be one play ahead in the game like AJ. I like a guy who gets mad when he don't get a hit, gives you good at bats when it is needed, and can be counted on to play every day. Sorry, but Flowers does not have those intangibles, and we take another step back at a vital position without AJ. I don't think you know either of those two.
  3. It's amazing how quickly the NFC regained dominance in the football world. It wasn't but 2 years ago that the NFC was still the stepchild. Now I'm not even sure I'd take the Texans over any of those top 4 NFC teams, and I probably wouldn't take them against the Packers either.
  4. I think people hate me in my league this year, but I'm OK with that. First, Aaron Hernandez gets hurt. I pick up Scott Chandler, and he goes for 4/62/2. Then Drew Brees has his bye. I pick up Christian Ponder, and he puts up 352/2/2 plus 13 rushing yards (though he did lose a fumble too). Then I lose Amendola and pick up Kendall Wright. That wasn't as big - only 13 points - but it's relevant because, as any good fantasy football player, I'm always looking for depth. Nate Burleson gets hurt, so naturally I put in a waiver claim for Titus Young. I get him...with the last waiver priority. Because Amendola's out, I have to choose between Young and Wright this week. I'd have been fine either way, but I stuck with Young. 31 points from a waiver claim. I also had the Giants defense too, which got me like 21 or 23. All told, 159 points. I went from 4th or 5th in points scored to 2nd as of this moment, and that is likely to stick. The guy I'm facing has 81 points with Gore and the 49ers defense left to play. I think I'm going to win.
  5. QUOTE (chw42 @ Oct 28, 2012 -> 03:28 PM) Dwyer > Bradshaw looking good so far. Although I probably should have sat Steven Jackson for Bradshaw. I'm hoping he gets traded. I need Decker, Witten, and Dan Bailey to not score 49 points. Hopefully it wasn't a PPR league
  6. QUOTE (oldsox @ Oct 27, 2012 -> 09:51 AM) I'll believe in Hahn when he comes out and decries the Dunn acquisition, the trading of Gio (second time), the whole Swisher episode, and the idiotic trade with Arizona. /facepalm
  7. QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Oct 26, 2012 -> 07:38 PM) Ok, then a 100% increase. Whatever, it was a Friday. Point being it's a lot.
  8. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Oct 26, 2012 -> 01:58 PM) Biden at it again. http://nation.foxnews.com/joe-biden/2012/1...rillion-tax-cut With the intention of paying off the debt to China as well as purchasing the entire continent of Africa. EDIT: It's Friday and I'm an idiot, because that's backwards. Maybe the American people can pool the money together and we can still have Africa.
  9. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 26, 2012 -> 11:05 AM) "Rick is going to have the day to day operations" ("Kenny is going to do big picture stuff.") Rick is Jim and Kenny is Michael. /mindblown
  10. QUOTE (Iwritecode @ Oct 26, 2012 -> 10:38 AM) Is that for ALL free agents? I thought it went by position? Arbitration is based upon their previous years salaries. If AJ were offered and accepted arbitration and was given $13 million, that would be a more than 200% increase in his salary.
  11. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 26, 2012 -> 09:31 AM) White Sox Talk ‏@WhiteSoxTalkCSN Jerry Reinsdorf, in a statement on Williams' new role: "more macro issues, talent evaluation and long-term planning for the organization.” Loving this. I've never had a problem with Williams' ideas for building a team, but his tactics have sometimes left something to be desired - as in giving up Ryan Sweeney, Gio Gonzalez, and De Los Santos for Nick Swisher or giving a 4 year deal to Scott Linebrink. And, whether it's him or his scouts, he's always seemed to have a good eye for talent, so that leads to good things as well. I also think Hahn will manage the payroll quite a bit better too. Interested to see where the offseason takes us now.
  12. I imagine the trades the Sox made last year were primarily Hahn's doing. In his 10+ years on the job, Williams seemingly never made trades like those, and they made 3 of them last year. I seem to recall Hahn speaking in the past about value and negotation, and those seem far likelier to be up his alley than Williams. The one move I can think of that really fits that is the Griffey trade where Williams gave up Masset and Richar. That's similar enough to Stewart/Lillibridge.
  13. Something I did not know until this morning - the marine, Nick Kemmel, who threw out the first pitch, is actually the nephew of a co-worker. Haven't listened to the video so they may have explained it at some point, but he lost both legs and his left arm in a roadside bomb in Iraq last year. Here's the pitch
  14. QUOTE (Cali @ Oct 25, 2012 -> 10:16 PM) Is that your final answer? Obvious reverse jinx
  15. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Oct 26, 2012 -> 12:43 AM) I didn't speak to the awards popularity, or if anyone cared, except when distinguishing between the real MLB awards, and Sporting News awards. Because regardless of MVP, Cy Young, ROY, or CPOTY, no one pays attention to whoever Sporting News deems is deserving, which was my point. People pay as much attention to the Sporting News' choice for Comeback Player of the Year as they do MLB's Comeback Player of the Year, which is to say nobody cares, which was my point.
  16. QUOTE (chw42 @ Oct 26, 2012 -> 03:00 AM) Where is JoeCoolMan when you need him!?!?!?!?! "I hereby dub thee Dancey and Sprinkler, because one of them can dance and one of them just does the sprinkler, because one is black and one is white!"
  17. I love the Vikings. The first time they let a running back go off, it's Doug Martin. 35 points already, and I'm being greedy and hoping for about 5 more. Plus Mike Williams (PPR league) and Connor Barth. Schiano should not have gone for 2 because that took a POINT away from ME. Doesn't he care how I feel?
  18. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Oct 25, 2012 -> 09:24 PM) Liriano won it 2 years ago. Thome won it in 2006. And the years in between? Comeback Player of the Year is like winning the NIT tournament. Sure, you're happy for them, but nobody really cares.
  19. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Oct 25, 2012 -> 10:17 AM) I was drunk and wasn't going to lose, and it's so much easier to quit and start back at 0-0 than to fight my way back from a 12 point deficit halfway through the 3rd quarter.
  20. QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Oct 25, 2012 -> 09:53 AM) Me thinks Papa Grande won't pitch anymore in this WS, I almost feel bad for him at this point. Almost
  21. In case anyone wants to know, I'm still playing NBA 2K12 in MyPlayer mode. I beat the Bulls in the Eastern Conference Finals (with the Pacers!) in 19 games
  22. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Oct 25, 2012 -> 06:46 AM) I guess if you think below average is acceptable, there's not much more I can say. Because that's what I said. For all I care, the Bears could have worst offensive line in history. What I'm saying is that when you do have a below average offensive line going up against a good defensive line, leaving Evan Rodriguez, Kellen Davis, and/or Matt Spaeth in to block is not a bad thing. It's not as if they're running with John Kuhn or Rob Gronskowski at the positions.
  23. oh f***ing COME ON man. You are making a big deal of MLB and Sporting News Comback Player of the Year. Atleast respond. COME ON
  24. QUOTE (Jake @ Oct 24, 2012 -> 09:32 PM) JVINAA Pretty sure we already knew that Javy Vazquez was never meant to start Game 1 in 2008, but what were they going to do?
  25. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Oct 24, 2012 -> 03:21 PM) They're coverage sacks because a back and/or TE have to stay in to help the O-line block and there aren't a full complement of receivers running routes. Given the pass rush of the Lions, I think that's acceptable.
