  1. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Oct 23, 2012 -> 02:53 PM) Why did he hit .204 and strike out 222 times then? He hit .204 because he had the 2nd worst BABIP of his career at .246, which is way below his career norm of .288. USCF typically suppresses BABIP some, but not 40 points of average worth. He also had the 2nd highest line drive rate of his career at 22.4% (highest was 23.5% in 2006, when he hit .236). Line drives really aren't great for Dunn though, because he typically hits 1 of every 5 flyballs out of the park. If he's hitting line drives, it generally means he's hitting the piss out of the balls into the shift. They are obviously preferable to ground balls, but that seems obvious to me. Oh, and he struck out 222 times because he swings as hard as he can pretty much at all times. He's going to miss the ball a lot.
  2. QUOTE (Cali @ Oct 24, 2012 -> 01:30 PM) No chance. No hope. There's not even an old saying that goes up to "fool me three times" or four if he's for some dumb reason on the team next year. Gordon will be an average bench player on some other team. That is his ceiling now. It does 1,000 years from now. In fact, it goes up to "fool me eight times, shame on you."
  3. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Oct 24, 2012 -> 11:57 AM) I know it's not a funny story, but seeing those two lines made me chuckle. Maybe he tried to build it because they will come?
  4. Just so we are aware, I am no longer going to talk about Ozzie Guillen on this website unless it comes up organically and is not disputing how terrible he is. Like, I might talk about him, but I'm not doing this anymore. At this point, I believe masturbation is more productive than continuing this argument with greg because then atleast I feel good (or shameful and guilty, depending on what I watched) afterwards. This is nothing more than aggrivating. So I'm going to end it with this: OZZIE GUILLEN IS A HORRIBLE MANAGER The end
  5. Tigers in 5 seems like a safe prediction
  6. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Oct 24, 2012 -> 09:24 AM) Guillen canned............... I see they let worthless Cora go also in about 2 seconds smart franchise..............addition by subtraction. For the record, I have absolutely no problem with Joey Cora
  7. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Oct 24, 2012 -> 12:41 AM) Still doesn't mean anyone recognizes it as the official one. All I am saying is, I can't name a single award winner of any Sporting News award, other than Beckham's 2009 win, and obviously Dunn's 2012 win. But I can tell you who won the majority of the recent MVP and Cy Young awards that the MLB hands out annually. Who were the MLB Comeback Players of the Year 2 years ago? don't look it up EDIT: I did, for verification purposes. One of them PITCHED for the Sox this year, so there's a hint.
  8. QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 23, 2012 -> 09:24 PM) Reasonable points, but how do you guys avoid talking about Passon's position No one has argue PASSAN'S (I mean, not to be a grammar nazi, but jesus, it's a dude's name, and IT'S PRINTED ON THE ARTICLE YOU CITED) position. Loria is a f***ing terrible owner. He's the absolute worst owner in all of sports. You can argue Clippers or whatever hockey owner you like, but there's no changing my position on that. That team was destined to fail. It was not destined to fail to the point of the worst team in 13 years. That is absolutely, entirely, 100% on the manager. Terry Bevington would have won (at least) 73 games with that team. I don't think Jeff Passan agrees with you. If anything, you agree with Jeff Passan. Jeff Passan is an award winning writer. He is the BEST baseball columnist on the planet right now. In the article you posted (in the Marlins thread), he never defends Ozzie Guillen. He merely points out the faults of the WORST OWNER IN SPORTS. In fact, that article had literally nothing to do with Ozzie Guillen. It merely had to do with the job vacancy as manager for the Marlins and how terrible the job really is. --- I tweeted Passan to see if he believes that Ozzie did a terrible job despite Loria. Here's hoping he tweets back
  9. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Oct 23, 2012 -> 08:57 PM) I agree with Wite. Fact is, even if this team exceeded expectations, that would have likely meant a .500 team over what many people thought coming into the year. The fact we were in the race so long and made the summer interesting was better than I expected. Of course, I'm expected a contender for 2013 now. Exactly. I'm not saying I'm not disappointed - I am, especially given what they did in that Detroit game - but that team was mentally, emotionally, and physically drained. That makeup game with Detroit was the Game 163 from 2008, except that it was actually game 145. They wouldn't be in the World Series right now.
  10. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Oct 23, 2012 -> 07:26 PM) Yeah, that was a hilariously offensive statement by Greg. I deleted mine, and I only offended greg, soooooooo
  11. QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 23, 2012 -> 05:44 PM) Would Robin bring him aboard? There's a better likelihood they'd bring me aboard.
  12. There's being a kissass and then there's telling the person who signs your checks that he's incompetent. I'm don't talk badly about anybody above me, let alone that guy. Beyond that, regardless of the truth to which Guillen speaks, there is some pot calling the kettle black action as well, because Loria spent a good amount of money on the Marlins and they had a lot of talent, and, with Guillen at the helm, the Marlins had their worst season since 1999. There's a lot of blame to go around, I'm not questioning that. But the guy with the bigger stick is still around, and he's going to continue to make terrible decisions. That doesn't detract from how poorly Guillen managed that team.
  13. QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 23, 2012 -> 05:21 PM) This guy is copying me. Don't pay attention to him. I think it's 50/50 whether Ozzie is managing next season. He probably could use a year in the booth somewhere but I think his next stop is a team full of youngsters with no expectations (Royals). He needs a lot of time off. He is burnt out right now. Perhaps in a year, but I'm guessing that, if he does come back, it's going to be either a 2+ year hiatus from managing or he will come back as a coach of some type, and I think his ego is too big to come back as a coach. His heart simply isn't in it right now. Besides, he's got $7.5 million reasons to relax for a little bit. He won't stay away from the game, but coming back too soon would be a very bad thing for him. Oh, and going to a team full of young players would not be good for a guy who has such little patience. Perhaps it would be good for him in some regard because it would force him to calm down and let guys fail, but I think he'd be more likely to end up with a veteran team in need of a spark. I'll go out on a very long limb and say the Cincinnati Reds in 2015.
  14. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 23, 2012 -> 09:16 AM) Also Sanchez 1-5, 3 RBI, SB. What the hell has gotten into Andy Wilkins down there? .414/.438/.690/1.127, plus 2 SB. 3rd in the AFL in SLG, 4th in OPS, 4th in AVG. The only guy hitting demonstrably better in all areas is Brock Kjeldgaard, a 26 year old who was drafted in 2005 in the 34th round who started as a pitcher, converted to a 1B, and hasn't played a full season of AA yet. Small sample size. I try to avoid getting too worked up over hitters in the AFL simply because of that. Brent Morel looked like a great, young hitter, Eduardo Escobar looked like he had developed gap power, Tyler Flowers looked like he could be a .270 average guy with power, and they just don't seem to pan out. It's not a bad thing by any stretch though. I am much more interested in pitchers and their results, so I really like what I'm seeing out of Rienzo, and while Sanchez may not quite be Sergio Santos, he's intriguing nonetheless.
  15. QUOTE (ron883 @ Oct 23, 2012 -> 03:17 PM) I'm not surprised. Players love playing for Oz. How could you not? Unlike greg, who I honestly believe does feel that Ozzie Guillen is a great manager, this feels more like a roamer who has enjoyed reading greg enough that you have started a satirical account on greg's behalf, which technically would make greg a celebrity.
  16. On the plus side, now Ozzie gets to be paid $7.5 mill to play games on his IPad and he doesn't have sit around in a dugout for 3 hours a night to boot. Oh, and he can drink all he wants to and not have to wake up in the. (BTW, the Oney reaction is poetic)
  17. QUOTE (thedoctor @ Oct 23, 2012 -> 03:11 PM) geez. that escalated quickly. Brick killed a guy
  18. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Oct 22, 2012 -> 03:30 PM) it's been a couple of weeks and I'm still not over this f***ing collapse. damn. As a fan, I'm really proud of this team. They looked absolutely exhausted from putting forth their best effort for 162 games, and in the end they simply ran out of gas and lost to a healthier and more talented team. There is no shame in the season they had. They'll be stronger and have a year under Ventura and this new coaching staff next year. Depending upon the kind of splash Williams/Hahn makes this offseason, I think we could be looking at a 95 win team next year. I haven't felt this good about the actual coaching of this team in a long time. The two biggest keys in my mind this offseason are getting a long-term solution at 3B, preferably a middle of the order hitter, and improving and increasing the depth of the bench and high minor leagues. Without the contributions this team received from its rookies and minor leaguers, this team could have very easily met preseason expectations and been about a 75 win team. They received around 2 WAR from minor league offensive players and about 4.5 WAR from minor league pitchers. If you consider that those minor leaguers in previous seasons would have likely put up
  19. Yeah it is. I'm impressied with Williams' and Shields' athleticism, but I have never been impressed with their cover skills. Woodson, even at an advance age, is still one of the best technically sound cover corners in the NFL.
  20. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Oct 20, 2012 -> 06:53 PM) And everyone else is laughing that they have won one playoff series in 6 years and two playoff series in the last 20 years They have only won 1 playoff series in the last 20 years. That's 1 playoff series in 7 attempts in 20 years... QUOTE (balfanman @ Oct 22, 2012 -> 08:10 AM) Which, and I hate to say this, is more than the Sox have done. Even with a payroll half the size on average, the A's always seem to be competitive and sometimes suprise. Other than 2005, the Sox really don't have much to be proud of. ...so I am going to say that this is not more than the White Sox have done, but, because the White Sox have actually won 3 series in the last 20 years - even if they came in the same season - they have actually done more than the Oakland Athletics, even if the Athletics made the playoffs 3 more times than the White Sox did.
  21. 6 wins in a row. I got a bit lucky this week. Richardson poops himself, and MJD is out after 2 carries. By that point, it didn't matter that AJ Green only had 1 catch. But with Drew Brees, Fred Jackson, and Doug Martin, that put me in a pretty good position right away, and then Hernandez and Welker did enough. Best record in the league, 3 games up on a playoff spot in my division (BTW, divisions are stupid), feeling good.
  22. Rangers hire Dave Magadan as hitting coach I normally wouldn't post about random team coach hirings, but I found this interesting Holy cow.
  23. QUOTE (Swingandalongonetoleft @ Oct 19, 2012 -> 07:05 PM) I'm sick of hearing the NFL on Fox music used for MLB on Fox. I'm enjoying this Barry Zito resurgence. I couldn't help but feel bad for him getting left off the '10 Championship run roster. He signed a $126 million deal. I have literally never felt bad for Barry Zito.
  24. BTW, in case you didn't know, http://www.forbes.com/pictures/el45fkjmk/n...smark-nd/"" target="_blank">Bismark, ND has the lowest unemployment rate in the entire US. Now, if someone could direct me to Bismark, ND, I would greatly appreciate it. (PS...there are still so many jobs here it'll make your head spin...please move here, because I need Sox brethren in BISMARCK, ND)
  25. zOMG WEED IS BETTER THAN ALCOHOL CUZ OF THIS I happen to agree with these points, but they need to be Filibuster'd. If not, you fear the rath of drunken, conservative wite yelling at you about legal and not legal (ie ILLEGAL) and then bad things happen. Oh, and yes, marijuana is a gateway drug...from a dealing standpoint. If you have a good standard dealer, than f***ing good for you. In the meantime, it's still illegal, and you are lucky this site doesnt report (and will never report) such acts. Yeah. You can PM me if you want the reason for my bias, but otherwise, f*** off with the weed smoking talk. Seriously. ---- Yeah, f*** weed
