4/24/12 GT Sox @ A's 9:05pm, WGN

QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Apr 24, 2012 -> 11:47 PM) It was pulverized. It just went the wrong way. Wasn't pulverized, but had he squared it up, it would have been, so I know what you mean. That really seemed like the only pitch all game that the Sox had a chance to legitimately score, and it would have gone over the fence had it worked out. The only thing I really questioned the entire game was leaving Gavin out for the 8th, but at the same time you really want a righty out there against Hughes because he kills lefties, so you pick your poison. Or you use Ohman to get out a weak hitter in Daric Barton and then bring in Crain or Reed to face Hughes and Kaaihue. Using a hit and run in the top of the 8th instead of a straight steal with Morel would have been interesting too and, worst case scenario and Beckham misses, you're left with the same scenario in the top of the 9th. Going Fukudome and Dunn was great and was something I haven't seen from a White Sox manager in a long, long time. There's no way you would have seen a pinch hitter for the #3 hitter, especially when he's been going pretty well, but it was absolutely the right call to make. Dunn missed the one pitch during the entire sequence that he could have parked. Not much more you can do. Milone did pitch really well too. With a soft tossing lefty like that, you need to take control of the inner half of the plate when he comes in, and they couldn't do that because he was locating so well. He was mixing up his pitches, keeping the ball down in the zone, and throwing first pitch strikes pretty much all night. I don't care how hard you throw, not many teams are going to be able to hit that. -
This has been a really good road team the past couple of years, so winning streaks on the road against bad teams isn't much of a surprise. It would be nice if they could win a few at home this year.

They're reeling me in. It may be that they've played well in the early going, but for whatever reason I feel like this team have a chance. There are a few pieces needed, whether from outside the organization or not, but one of Beckham, Morel, and Viciedo really needs to get going. I feel Viciedo will, though there will be struggles, and I think Morel will be OK to the tune of a .725 OPS or so, but I just don't know how to feel about Beckham. That is the one area on this team where, assuming that, a half decent bat and good stick would make a world of difference. I also was hoping that Youkilis situation would become a bit more drawn out, because he would have been a great guy for Williams to acquire. His deal expires after this year but there's also a club option...it would have been the ideal Williams move. And I'd have been fine with his glove at 3B too. -

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Apr 23, 2012 -> 11:20 PM) Ever since my seizure two weeks ago, I get really, really tired and occasionally depressed cause of it. The White Sox have actually been like, the one thing that's made me happy. It's nice to have a manager that gives a s***. -
QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Apr 23, 2012 -> 06:22 PM) He became productive once September hit and he realized he wouldn't be sent down. He is quoted as saying all of last year he was just worrying about making contact (hence the defensive swing), and was not trying to drive anything so he wouldn't get sent down to AAA. Once he got to September he loosened up and swung freely, and blasted out like 7 HR or whatever that month. It appears he is entering the same cycle this season, except he is striking out a lot more. If he is striking out a lot more, I would venture to guess that the defensive swings he takes are in 2 strike counts and that he is taking more chances early in the count to try and drive the ball, and like a young, semi-talented hitter, he is going to miss those. Learning how to hit at the MLB level sometimes takes a while.

Hearing people talk about Chandler Jones as a workout warrior who has everything you want except for tape, I can't help but think of Quentin Groves and Michael Johnson. Groves has been a mega bust as a 2nd round pick. Johnson has been semi-effective and definitely worthy of being drafted in the 3rd round like he was but he's definitely not a game changer by any stretch of the imagination. Arthur Jones also plays for the Ravens, but didn't see the field a lot last year and never as a rookie. That's a guy I stay away from.

QUOTE (mumbles3k @ Apr 22, 2012 -> 02:30 AM) The original MAJOR LEAGUE was so bad, I never bothered with the sequels. I'll have to check that out. That and MY BEST FRIEND'S WEDDING are now at the top of my list. But I haven't seen a lot of these. Seriously? The original is the best baseball comedy there is in my mind. Better than Bull Durham.

There was nothing to like about Humber at the time. For f***'s sake, he's still the 5th starter after he put up a 3.75 ERA over 160 last year. I'm certainly not the only one who feels that way. He is a good pitcher. You aren't drafted 3rd overall without having a clue. I just didn't think he had anything left. I was obviously wrong then. 've been wrong before, I'll be wrong again. Don't care. Still awesome. Now, if you'd like, I'm sure I can find a team to dig up a few other posts. I realize its all in good fun, but, being an administrator and all on the site, maybe you should take the high ground in situations like this and let others do the digging.

AJ wants to be back in 2013, not talking deal now

QUOTE (Cali @ Apr 20, 2012 -> 05:54 PM) I also want a catcher who can throw guys out. AJ has actually been pretty good this season so far, but that has been one of his biggest knocks. While AJ might have better numbers in regards to blocking the ball, but man it seems like the dropped third strike has cost them so many games. Throwing guys out has more to do with the pitchers than the catcher. AJ could be shooting the ball out of a 22 but when the runner on 1st gets a 2 second head start, not even a gun is going to get those runners out. He deserves some blame, not all. -
QUOTE (maxjusttyped @ Apr 21, 2012 -> 01:34 PM) So, he doesn't like to use video, and he puts minimal value on OBP. Almost makes me wish Greg Walker was still the hitting coach. Just...no. This entire post needs to go away.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Apr 16, 2012 -> 12:57 PM) Especially a chick like that, because you know she's seen a lot of them. Drunk, I'm surprised you were able to not suggest the bareback approach. Smart, but not the easiest decision to make. Just to follow up on this, my buddy said "I saw a picture of her. Dude, she was so slutty, she is not allergic to latex, she just wanted you to rail that s***." To which I say, "I will almost certainly never see her again." If I do, and I have non-latex, then either I;m lucky or not lucky and I don't give a f*** either way.

I love drunk talking with ex's. I actually made the call, because there was a bunch of s*** I needed to get off my chest. And, quite frankly, 12 beers makes it a lot easier to get off. So then I find out that her boyfriend is moving to SanFran while she lives in Seattle. And that they are breaking up "temporarily" and she is "going to find out what its like to be independent" or some stupid s***. Think I mentioned something along those lines on this board here or there, and if not, WELL THAN BY JIMINY IT DOES SOUND AWFULLY FAMILIAR DONT IT JACOBS /over-exaggerated and poorly carried over English accent I think that relationship s*** is buried somewhere in THAT thread. This is the drunk thread. I have the reign of freedom to call her a dumb stupid b**** who should have done this a long time ago because then she wouldn't feel bad about hooking up with 19 year olds, but who am I kidding? SHE IS GOD. Well, Widger is actually God. And compared to him...well, f***, I don't know. Jesus Christ gave his own skin and blood to feed the hungry (or something), but Chris Widger...man, he gave his heart to that 2005 White Sox team. Did Jesus ever give his heart? Naaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah BTW, speaking of reign want to have babies with the Pearl Jam

What does ferociously cute even mean? Is it like the little engine that could?

QUOTE (iamshack @ Apr 16, 2012 -> 12:44 PM) While I am certain you are utterly intoxicating to women, this was probably wise, considering there was such a short interlude between meeting her and playing strip card games... I got what I could. It is very flattering though when a girl you just met tells you that you have a "nice dick."
-
I did say quite a few things that I believe are so NSFW that I won't repeat them here, but the reason I didn't get laid was because she said she is allergic to latex and that was all I had, and even as drunk as I was, I wasn't about to go bareback. It was still fun.

Oh god what a weekend. Playing poker with a couple of old college buddies when a girl comes to my door. I say "Whats up" and she sticks her tongue down my throat which was just awesome. I turn to my buddies and tell them to GTFO (I literally said "Get the f*** out"), and proceed to play strip blackjack...yes, blackjack...which ended up being awesome. She said I have a nice ass and then she said I have a nice dick. I thanked her. I unfortunately did not get laid but I got to play with boobies which was awesome. Oh and she is 19 and I met her 15 minutes before that.

QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Apr 12, 2012 -> 11:19 PM) The Angel's best reliever, Scott Downs sustained what looks to be a serious injury today and could be out for a while. Trade Thornton for Alberto Callaspo and play him at 3rd and hit him 2nd. I happen to like Morel quite a bit.
