QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 1, 2012 -> 05:39 PM) Red Sox put Felix Doubront and Daniel Bard in their rotation in the 4-5 slots, Alfredo Aceves goes to the bullpen. Meanwhile, Andrew Bailey is having thumb problems and will leave the team to have it examined. Status for opening day currently up in the air. I am not crazy about that team right now. Considering how much they have spent in the last 2-4 years, I think they are going to struggle to make the playoffs.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 30, 2012 -> 07:56 AM) I now blame you for it raining on me while walking from the train to work today. I'm sure it was a free ride when you'd already paid.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 30, 2012 -> 07:46 AM) Jose Contreras for Esteban Loaiza meets pretty much every standard you just wrote. And he won games! Yeah but Jose Contreras wasn't a loudmouth asshole who insulted homosexuals and his own fan base. Err...Esteban Loaiza. And he ended up bringin Loaiza back too! Lord save us if he brings Ozzie back ever.

QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Mar 30, 2012 -> 02:45 PM) After watching that mlb.com video interviewing Thornton, Reed and Santiago, I find myself a Santiago fan. I think his overall attitude translates to performance under pressure more so than the other two. Anybody else watch that? 12.9 K.9 across 5 levels last year seems more like a closer to me, but I'm just a knucklehead.

QUOTE (qwerty @ Mar 29, 2012 -> 11:59 PM) Funny you say this, truly is. I have told many people that darts story you divulged years ago. It's like 10,000 spoons when all you need is a knife.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 29, 2012 -> 07:57 AM) Totally disagreed but then still can remember where I was in October 2005. Hiring Ozzie was a great move too. But getting anything for Ozzie Guillen, who is really not a good manager, when the Sox had quite clearly given up on him (and him on the Sox) and were willing to pay him to sit on a couch all season was fantastic. If even one of those guys does anything meaningful in the big leagues, or is traded for Jeff Keppinger or something and Jeff Keppinger gets a base hit that wins a game, then it is an incredible move.

Muscle relaxers? You know, the sphincter's a muscle. Maybe he s*** his pants and let an ordinary situation get out of hand. Wouldn't be the first time.

The White Sox will play baseball in Chicago They will primarily wear white, black, and gray uniforms

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 28, 2012 -> 08:02 PM) What about getting the infamous "Ozzie" Martinez and Jhan Martinez for the departure of Ozzie Guillen? At least our system and major league team are strong enough that these former "top prospects" from the Marlins' system didn't come close to making the team. A- for new beginnings, unknown grade for picking Ventura and a C- for keeping KW in charge. Best move Kenny Williams has ever made.

Of course I have ulterior motives, and being the LEGAL troll that I am, I ask you, who is who? Player ADA - .280(14/50)/.327/.340/.667, 6 R, 1 XBH (1 HR), 4/11 K/BB Player GFB - .275(14/51).327/.392/.719, 6 R, 4 XBH (1 HR), 3/12 K/BB I mean, statistically insignificant sample size, yeah, I get it, and these statistics were either coming before or after today's game, so what...I just find it hard to believe that one of these two (I WON'T SAY WHO) is still "so lost at the plate" while the other is "a decent leadoff hitter who won't hurt the team." BTW, player ADA is 3 of 6 in SBs, while player GFB is 2 of 3. NOW TELL ME WHO'S HURTING THE TEAM. --- Quite frankly, it's absurd to make any generalizations about Spring Training, whether visual or statistical. I mean, Pierzynski and Flowers have combined for 7 homers. Do you think they'll hit a combined 50 during the season? Do you even think they'll hit for a combined 30? Considering AJ's power has continually declined since he came to Chicago, I'm going to put that 30 on hold, unless you believe that Flowers can hit 20 homers in perhaps 300 PAs.

QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Mar 26, 2012 -> 09:28 PM) Beckham is still so lost at the plate. Anyone looking for a turnaround as a hitter may be waiting forever. I'm not seeing it soon. Admitting ahead of time that I haven't seen any games, how has De Aza looked?

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Mar 26, 2012 -> 12:18 AM) 3 @ TEX (1-2) 3 @ CLE (2-1) 3 VS. DET (2-1) 4 VS. BALT (3-1) 3 @ SEA (3-0) 3 @ OAK (1-2) 4 VS. BOS (1-3) 13-10 No real rhyme or reason...much like this franchise the past few years. BTW, the Tigers don't scare me at all outside of Verlander. Even then, he's another 130 pitch outing away from his arm flying off behind his fastball. Good thing Leyland is such a great manager of his bullpen. Oh wait..... I normally pay attention to pitch and innings counts for pitchers because it is like 99% of the time statistically relevant data, but there are certain guys like Justin Verlander who I just stop worrying about it, especially after 2010. I had him pegged for a 4.00-4.50 ERA after Leyland ran him into the ground in 2009. He proceeded to put up a better ERA and WHIP, albeit in 15.2 fewer innings. I don't expect 250 innings of a sub 2.50 ERA, but 230 of sub 3.00 ERA is perfectly reasonable.

Holy s***, a .180 and he drove? That isn't stumbling down the street wasted, but not even an alcoholic will feel sober at that level. That's like a 12 pack or more. -
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Mar 24, 2012 -> 11:26 PM) We have the best closer prospect in baseball. Let's make our long relief/spot starter the closer. This reads like a meme and I love it.

QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Mar 21, 2012 -> 07:35 PM) These "Draw X amount of walks" goals are pissing me off. Even when I TRY to walk, I can't. I either strike out looking because they pound the zone every at-bat, or I have to foul off 4-5 pitches in an AB just to draw another ball. It's insane. Last time my goal was to draw 3 walks, I think I had 3 weeks to do it, and 1 walk is all I could muster. And during that time, my average plummitted because I was letting wheelhouse pitches go so I could hope for a ball on the next pitch, and then I would strike out, or make weak contact trying to be late on the ball so it goes foul. Frustrating. So i ended up failing the goal, so the next set of goals they get, they ask me to get FOUR walks this time. Son of a b****. First of all, drawing 1 walk in 3 weeks of playing time is terrible, I don't care if you're playing The Show or 2k. Watch the pitch from the pitchers hand, like any professional baseball player does. The split second after it releases from his hand, you know where the ball is generally going, and you have time to make a judgment. In my RTFTS (road to f*** the show), I started the year repeating AA after being invited to ST. I was far too advanced, and after 20 games of hitting .520 (yes, .520), I was promoted to AAA. After hitting about .350 in AAA and finding my power stroke (8 homers in about 35 games), I was recalled to the Majors. Just a bit harder. But, that .520 was also aided by roughly 10 walks, and the .350 was with about 10 walks as well. I could have walked more, but I naturally prefer to murder the ball. If you suck, you suck, and the pitchers will throw you s*** down the middle. Thats true of either video game. So, uhh, get your defense swing ready. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Mar 21, 2012 -> 11:57 PM) Yeah, I'm not so sure the pitchers in the game think like that. But the commentators do mention after a couple balls are thrown to me that I am terrible and they should just be lobbing them down the middle so I can get myself out. They do.

QUOTE (flavum @ Mar 22, 2012 -> 02:13 PM) Peavy with more verbal diarrhea... http://siriusxmsports.posterous.com/jake-p...p-discusses-the quoting twice for emphasis Seriously, what part of that was verbal diarrhea? Peavy didn't talk about himself or how he was going to be the best pitcher he could be or how this team was going to be great or anything fanboyish that Peavy likes to state. He talked about the state of the clubhouse with Ozzie and with Robin and how much better it is with Robin. It's not as if he didn't take any sort of "shot" at people within the organization...during the interview, he mentions that, in the past, Williams' and Guillen's rift was so bad that it created problems within the clubhouse. It was a nice segment. I'm glad you posted it.

QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Mar 21, 2012 -> 12:56 PM) If there was any rotation in the league he had a chance of making, it was the Twins. No. Carl Pavano, Francisco Liriano, Scott Baker, Nick Blackburn, Brian Duensing, Jason Marquis, Anthony Swarzak - which two are you going to kick out to put Terry Doyle in your rotation? This is also not including Liam Hendriks who looks like a pretty solid pitcher too. About the only team where Terry could have made the rotation is Houston.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Mar 21, 2012 -> 03:42 PM) Merrill Hoge on Griffin v. Luck http://espn.go.com/nfl/draft2012/story/_/i...-throws-pro-day He's seeing the same things Im seeing. There have been all kinds of players who were extraordinarily talented that busted simply because they weren't able to adapt to a pro style offense and couldn't make the reads in a pro style offense. I absolutely love RGIII and there are a few reasons I think he has the higher ceiling of the two players, but Luck is more ready, he's a safer pick, he's still got the potential to be a top 5 or 10 QB in the league (you can make any comparison you want between John Elway and Peyton Manning coming out...to me, he shares characteristics of Roethlisberger and Eli Manning). On the other hand, when I see RGIII, I see a lot of Donovan McNabb but better accuracy. If Donovan McNabb completed 62% or 64% of his passes over his career as opposed to 59%, he almost certainly ends up winning atleast one Super Bowl and he could very well be heading into retirement as a Hall of Famer instead of a merely a great player. There is no wrong answer. The safe pick is Luck, and that is still the pick I make if I am Indy without a second thought.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Mar 21, 2012 -> 12:45 AM) How's Mr. Dunn looking? Is the ball popping off his bat with more force than last year? Is he looking like he has more of a clue? 19 ABs, 26 PAs, 1 2B, 2 HR, 7 BB, 1 K, .263/.462/.632/1.093 --- I seem to recall seeing someone mention on here that he switched to a lighter bat. Is that true or am I imagining things? Because I sorta recall suggesting that last season because he simply couldn't get the SOB through the zone, and when he did, he was lugging it through so he had no bat speed.
