I've been tuning the bowling up for a while now, really starting to find a rhythm. Given, that's on a house shot as opposed to a sport shot, but I'm throwing the ball the best I have since I was in high school. I think in my last 6 (on a burnt house shot) my average is right around 190-200. I'm actually pretty excited to see how I bowl tomorrow night because it will be the first time I've bowled on the sport shot since I have started rolling well about 2 weeks ago. This is all important because next week I'm going to nationals in Baton Rouge. Barring anything semi-miraculous, I will be carrying a 150ish average on that Tuesday sport shot into Nationals. There will be a sport shot there, but even if I average around 170-180, I'm going to be taking home a bit of money.

I made the mistake of watching the NFL roundtable discussion on this bounty thing. I apologize. To say it was the most pointless roundtable in the history of roundtables may not do it justice. I mean seriously, Marcellus Wiley and Mike Golic were essentially arguing in favor of the bounty system, but when the circumstances of the bounty system itself came up, they said it was bad. So basically, these 5 guys (Wiley, Golic, Seau, Steve Young, and Tom Jackson) all believe that the bounty system is a bad thing. WHAT'S THE GODDAMN ARGUMENT THEN? Even on the internet people get scolded for arguing just to argue. These guys get paid thousands or millions of dollars to do so. f***. Bounty system - bad. I think that ends that discussion. You can put in any further adjectives or interjections that you'd like, but at the end of the day, it was bad. This is why basic cable is teh devil. --- Oh, and the Bills are interested in Vincent Jackson too. Three things... #1) I have no idea why, even if he were to receive more money, why he'd want to come to Buffalo. Yes, they'd essentially have 1a and 1b receivers, but Fitzpatrick almost certainly will never be able to get him the ball. His opportunities are going to be much greater in Chicago. #2) If you are willing to throw that much at a wide receiver, why not spend that money on YOUR BIGGEST GODDAMN NEED WHICH IS A PASS RUSHER? One of the best pass rushers in the league is available, proved he is capable of being successful in either a 4-3 or 3-4, and you just so happen to be running a hybrid 4-3 next year. If you can afford to pay 2 receivers $20+ million, then you can assuredly afford to pay a receiver and a defensive player $24-26 million, especially when that one piece could quite literally take a mediocre defense and turn it dangerous. It then gives them options with the #10 pick, be it another pass rusher (because Merriman obviously will not last a full season, especially as a DE), a WR, OT, DB, Tannehill (if he were to fall), or trading up or down. It doesn't make a lot of sense. #3) Because nothing exciting ever happens with the Bills (or atleast not since Takeo Spikes signed with the Bills), YOU STAY AWAY CHICAGO.

Hmm, who would I rather have, Stevie Johnson at 5/$36 or Pierre Garcon at 5/$35? The only thing Garcon does better than Johnson is run, and that doesn't do a whole lot other than stretch the field. Loving that contract.

That is awesome and saves the franchise tag for Demetrius Bell if they want to give him one more shot at staying healthy because he's a solid player when he is. Otherwise, if they don't want to commit the $9 mill for him, he's an option for the Bears or any other team too. Then again, the Bears need someone durable, and that is something Bell is not.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 4, 2012 -> 07:55 PM) But nationally, most experts were picking the Twins, because they'd won the division 3 years in a row...it was the logical choice, and we'd jettisoned Ordonez, Lee and Valentin for WHO? That's not the point, the Sox hadn't made a sexy signing all offseason, but they addressed an absolute ton of needs and filled several holes during the offseason. They brought in a good hitting catcher, a seemingly capable 2B, had Uribe penciled in at SS after he was coming off a huge year, had a new RFer who most hoped was going to atleast somewhat replicate Ordonez's production, had Rowand coming off a fantastic season, had a leadoff hitter who could get on base and steal bases, had a rotation that was set in stone going into the season, and had the pieces towards a very good bullpen. Uribe and Rowand fell off considerably, but the rotation was better than anybody could have ever imagined, Hermanson, Cotts, and Politte were all stupendous, and Jenks came up and dominated as well. There was quite a bit of luck and flukiness to that entire season, as there naturally will be, but it doesn't change the fact that most on here thought that the team was going to be pretty solid at the very least. Seriously, the biggest question marks entering that season included who the backup catcher was going to be, who the backup infielder(s) were going to be, and who was going to be a backup OFer. They were not very important holes to fill and they found the right guys to fill them anyways. This is absurd too. My assumption throughout this entire process is that those two are going to have a pretty generous split of playing time, with AJ getting anywhere between 80-100 games and Flowers anywhere between 60-80 games (with the possibility of some time at 1B and DH open for Flowers as well). And, if you want to win a bit, having the more experienced catcher playing quite a bit is going to be good too. On top of all of that, assuming the Sox are out of the race at the trade deadline, and the Sox can coerce Pierzynski into accepting a trade, he could absolutely be a valuable piece to a team who loses a catcher or needs an upgrade anyways.

QUOTE (sunofgold @ Feb 29, 2012 -> 02:51 PM) It is true. Go back and read the predictions for the 2005 White Sox. You never know what is going to happen is baseball. There is some talent on this team. We aren't starting Brandon McCarthy on opening day and following him with Bartolo Colon. OK http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?sh...amp;mode=linear Looks to me lke 60-70% of the posters predicted the White Sox to win the division.

2011-12 White Sox off season catch all thread

QUOTE (daggins @ Mar 4, 2012 -> 03:43 PM) Rios is earning 12.5M a year and not 21M, which means a return to a ~3WAR player would make him worth his salary. Also, since when does Morel have below average range? This is a major problem with ESPN in particular and sports writing sites in general - there's always this notion that they have to make the facts fit the narrative they're pushing. It's just a terrible article all around with a writer who did no fact checking whatsoever. -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 4, 2012 -> 10:49 AM) Um, he doesn't realize that Manny can only play in 112 games? He does. This guy is just that dumb.

I made a bet with an A's fan at 10:1 odds for $10 that Manny Ramirez would not lead the league in doubles. I am going to be $10 richer come September.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 3, 2012 -> 07:53 PM) Do they still play him in CF? Trying him in the corner to see if he could stay healthy seems like a reasonable move. Heck, you might try making him a DH if you werent' already paying Hafner so much to DH. I was talking about Hafner. I don't know if there's anything they can do to keep Sizemore healthy. He'd be a worthwhile risk for the Sox if he didn't cost so damn much, but he'd almost certainly end up getting hurt again.

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Mar 3, 2012 -> 09:33 PM) I have to restrain myself from making snide (but true) remarks on Facebook so often. This is very true for so many reasons. On Valentine's Day, some guy posted that "more breakups happen on Valentine's Day than any other day," so then I posted this article on said post. I felt a bit like a god.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 2, 2012 -> 01:21 PM) Hafner was really solid though, last year....after sucking eggs for about 3 consecutive years. I read somewhere that Sizemore was expected to be out the first 2-3 months of the season...keeps sounding worse and worse for him. Whose favorite player was he? Ozzie or Hawk's, there for a while? 2009 - .826 OPS, 94 games 2010 - .824 OPS, 118 games 2011 - .811 OPS, 94 games He's been a fine hitter, but the Indians have to handle him with kid gloves anymore otherwise he's going to hit an extended DL stint.

QUOTE (ROC Sox Fan @ Feb 29, 2012 -> 09:23 PM) Grinderstad was the best worst part of 2007! I own his jersey shirt and play his drinking game every now and then (playing on loop the clip where he loses the ball in the lights @ LAA and puts his arms out. "AND IT DROPS BEHIND HIM!" drinking every time the ball drops behind him). f*** Alex Rios. I might buy an Adam Dunn jersey from some Chinese bootleg site for the irony/hope he remembers how to bat. But f***. Alex. Rios. I need baseball. That photo was my wallpaper for a good year and a half.

How did this thread come up and no one mentioned Darin Erstad?

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Feb 28, 2012 -> 01:02 AM) Yeah, the Nationals are paying $100 million each to him & Jayson Werth. Lucky for them they got the #1 pick in the two best years possible consecutively. And before that was coming off back to back 7+ fWAR seasons. The dude had a hernia last year. He's generally been considered a great defensive 3B and has always hit...the fact that he didn't hit for power last year after coming back from hernia surgery is far from surprising. I would prefer Ryan Zimmerman at that price than Prince Fielder at $130 million. I would say they re-invested their money as best as they could.

Never realized how ugly nor goofy looking Mark Buehrle was. It's amazing the difference a hat and a button up shirt can make.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 26, 2012 -> 12:36 PM) But here's the problem. If I'm going to your restaurant and having that $30 steak...aren't I still expected and expecting to pay $37.50-$40 for it including the tip? I'm not going to a restaurant to order a $30 steak without expecting to tip the waiter/waitress, and I'm not going to go to a restaurant less if the steak is listed as $38 but I don't have to pay the tip. The price is exactly the same to me. If you feel it was worth a 25-33% tip, sure. Or you could tip $6, which is way more than enough, and be right there. Or, if the service was poor, you could tip as little as $3. You are given free reign at that point in time to pay however much you want to pay. Of course, this isn't assuming you are drinking something, which naturally you would. The point remains.

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Feb 26, 2012 -> 01:19 PM) Andrew Luck is sicknasty as is RG3. Those are two uber talented dudes. There are unnamed scouts who are heavily scrutinizing them, which I find hilarious because it's simply people sending out mixed signals now to get teams to think that these guys aren't good, which is absolutely absurd. (blurbs are from rotoworld) Luck: One NFL scout compares Stanford QB Andrew Luck to Matt Ryan as a "really good game manager" who's been overhyped by the media. "He is a Matt Ryan-type player," said the scout. "He can't carry the team on his shoulders, but he's a really good manager. His arm isn't even close to Aaron Rodgers' and he doesn't have Aaron's feet. He's smart, competitive, tough. His teammates love him. The media has put so much pressure on this kid. It's unbelievable. They've basically anointed him Jesus Christ. RGIII: One NFL scout insists that Baylor QB Robert Griffin III "cannot play quarterback" in the pros and is a poorer-throwing version of Michael Vick. Another scout quoted in the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel article linked below is very high on Griffin, so take this with a grain of salt. "He cannot play quarterback," said the scout who's down on RG3. "He's just running around winging it. He has no idea how to play quarterback. He's got no vision. He's got no accuracy. No touch. Anything you look for in an NFL quarterback, he doesn't have it. You want him to run around and throw the ball and just keep running, he can do that. He's (Michael) Vick, but not as good a thrower." I've seen both guys play quite a bit, Luck more so. When I look at him, I don't think of him as a game manager. He looks like an incredibly gifted QB who will light up the stat book for years.

QUOTE (knightni @ Feb 25, 2012 -> 05:51 PM) Spring is almost here! Zumaya hurts himself again. http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news?slug=ap-twins-zumayahurt Early reports indicate he'll need Tommy John.

There is no way I'd draft Jefferey now before Day 3. The guy might be talented but with character concerns like that...all the dude has to do is run to show where he's at and then he can improve by that much at his pro day...there is no way I'm using a top pick on him. It's absolutely mind-boggling that he didn't run.
