Cleveland, for as much as everyone is considering them a threat, is a far worse team than the White Sox. -their best hitters currently are their middle infielders, and that's no knock on Cabrera and Kipnis because they're great players. Santana and Choo have been bad to meh, and I expect them to improve, but they simply aren't a very good offensive ballclub. They will be able to play matchups better than most, but they don't have a very talented offensive ballclub. The White Sox and Tigers do. -their rotation is very mediocre to bad. I expect Masterson's numbers to improve a bit as the year goes on, but I've never been a fan of Ubaldo, Derek Lowe's ERA shot up a point and a half in 3 starts (one of which was a 6+ IP, 1 ER outing against the Twins) and his recent history, peripherals, and everything else about him screams 4.50-5.00 ERA for the season. There's really not a whole lot going for that rotation. -there are good pitchers in the bullpen - Perez, Pestano (who should really be closing), Smith, and Hagadone are all good pitchers, but it lacks depth. -the defense is OK, but not as good as the White Sox. There's enough talent on that team for them to finish around .500, but there's no excuse for the White Sox to not finish above them in the standings. I don't give a flying f*** about the ASB, just be there at the end of the day on October 3rd.

Throughout the duration of Ozzie Guillen's career, shortstop was never really a problem, so the idea of him coming out of retirement and playing a little bit was never really discussed. Beyond that, his strength - defense - wouldn't have been much use even if he'd have had half the range he did simply because that was and has been the strength of the SS position within the White Sox organization for about the past 10 years. But Ventura playing a bit of 3B? I'd prefer that more than the White Sox trading for Alfonso Soriano.

GT: Houston Astros @ Chicago White Sox
witesoxfan replied to justBLAZE's topic in 2012 Season in Review
I still don't think that taste is there. -
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jun 6, 2012 -> 07:45 PM) Great point. What's 1 WAR valued at these days? It's usually about $5 million. It's not hard for relievers to accumulate WAR though. They generally don't pitch a lot of innings and simply don't stick on the roster if they struggle badly enough and put up awful numbers unless they make a lot of money. I've never really ripped on the trade because I never really cared much for Brandon Allen, but it doesn't mean I wouldn't have rather seen him be traded for something else. In a lot of ways, it reminds me of any of the other trades Williams has made for mediocre middle relievers in the past. Williams was generally applauded for the Mike MacDougal trade and was then ripped when it looked like Dan Cortes was going to be a good arm and Lumsden had already been good in the Sox system as it was. At this juncture, who the f*** even cares about that trade anymore?

White Sox draft Courtney Hawkins OF out of Carroll HS (TX)
witesoxfan replied to knightni's topic in FutureSox Board
QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 4, 2012 -> 11:27 PM) The baseball draft bores me. Call me in 5 years and we'll know if this guy can play. C.J. Henry went No. 15 overall to the Yankees one year and quite possibly might be the worst player in organized baseball history. It only took him 3-4 years to leave the game completely. He was "five tool." Luke Hochevar No. 1 overall? My god. Nice to see you too! But, really, worst player in organized baseball history? I mean, he wasn't good, but a .649 career OPS isn't the worst. You really think he was worse than this guy? -
QUOTE (Cali @ Jun 4, 2012 -> 10:57 PM) Good to see Wilkins mashing since coming off the DL. Had such a horrendous start to the season, but he's looking good now. Just don't trade him for Youk now KW! I would drive to Birmingham to pick Wilkins up and then drive him up to Boston if that's all it took to get Youkilis.

Jeff "Mickey" DA MANto is freaking amazing

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jun 3, 2012 -> 09:15 PM) We don't like their parents? We cheered to Beckham's parents in the winner thread today, so we obviously like their parents -
There was that one game Jermaine Dye played SS, so like on the off chance that Alexei never gets going, we have that, so

QUOTE (Tannerfan @ Jun 3, 2012 -> 04:06 PM) I like it! Konerko finishes his career as a DH/back up catcher. So it's agreed upon then. This calls for a celebration.

QUOTE (sunofgold @ Jun 2, 2012 -> 01:47 PM) Offense still solid. Da Sizzle has worked out well on the two spots. We also have to have guys 1-8 who can go yard. MANto stil eventruths it on. No No QUOTE (sunofgold @ Jun 2, 2012 -> 03:05 PM) one zynski one zinski it is beautifully subtle and obvious at the same time. some people know of aj burnett Nonono. They were given first names by their parents, and in same cases, have shortened their original first name. Why can't we just call them that? -
He played catcher too, you know. So did Carlos Delgado. Maybe we could platoon those two at catcher after this season?

QUOTE (chw42 @ May 30, 2012 -> 02:42 PM) My fantasy team takes yet another hit. First Weaver, now Fister. Ugh. But I hardly know her!

QUOTE (Jake @ Jun 2, 2012 -> 01:17 PM) Given the current state of our outfield (Viciedo and De Aza in the long term, Rios for the next few seasons) and the fact we have young OF'ers getting close to MLB like Mitchell, Danks2 (look at his numbers this year folks), and the possible emergence of big talents like Walker and Thompson...I don't see us needing to drop big dollars on this kid. Draft an OF if there's a good one available, sure, but no need to spend 30 mill on this guy. I have. He's still striking out like crazy and is in his 3rd or 4th year at AAA. He should be hitting it by now.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 31, 2012 -> 08:56 PM) Carlos Gonzalez was traded twice. I repeat: Carlos Gonzalez has been traded twice. Gio Gonzalez has been traded 4 times. What's your point? QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 3, 2012 -> 12:06 PM) No Carlos Lee next weekend. DL. Brett Wallace up. Just kinda feels like things are falling the Sox way this year.
-
QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 3, 2012 -> 10:36 AM) Just noticed something weird....Viciedo only has 4 doubles. Since April 26, 10 homers and 2 doubles. Weird. You'd think he would have more gappers that didn't go over the wall. Not that I'm complaining. Just interesting. Boy is strong

QUOTE (iamshack @ May 28, 2012 -> 10:29 PM) I guess I am just accustomed to reading Wite's tales...sorry... FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU For what it's worth, I only had one of those, and looking back, I was a much smarter drunk than I was sober, because I've told myself looking back, I should have just gone for it, because what's the worst that happens from a small town girl in Minnesota? Herpes? PSHHH b**** ALREADY GOT IT ON MAH FACE, I CAN TAKE IT ON THE DICK TOO. Of course, hindsight is 20/20, so who gives a f***. Oh yeah, just found these two things out about myself tonight 1) I'm giving parenting advice to my brother-in-law. I made sure he knew that, even though I know he knows what he's doing, that I'm still going to do the exact same thing for the rest of his son's/my nephew's life, and there was nothing he could do about it, no matter how annoying. 2) Don't f***ing nitpick me.

sorry, did clarify it with a percentage. If you would like, I will break everything down into percentages and preface everything scholarly so as to not misconstrue any further points you may have, rather than assuming that, on a CHICAGO WHITE SOX message board where I am talking about the CHICAGO WHITE SOX in a SOCIAL manner, you understand the basis with which I am working. From here on out, my exact thoughts will be fourteen times as long as I show the math, formulas, expert opinions (with quotes, cited in a bibliography to be posted as the last post, with the thread closed shortly thereafter for further proof), and then my own conclusion, which will have nothing to do with Mark Buehrle in 2002 at all but instead will relate to a college football player breaking a finger, having said broken finger be amputated, and then relaying the sad story of how he was turned down for an office job when they found out he only had nine fingers. Or is it seven fingers and two thumbs? GODDAMMIT TIME TO RESEARCH
