  1. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jan 9, 2015 -> 05:15 PM) Meh, I'm not at the point where I'll just forgive Brandon Marshall for beating on his woman. Sorry, take all the pills you want, that's still you. As far as I am aware AJ and Rodman did not pound women with their fists. fixed
  2. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jan 9, 2015 -> 12:48 PM) Soxtalk is a true delight. I think I'm the best poster. Kidding. You are one of my favorite posters. Not kidding. If nothing else, you keep it interesting around here.
  3. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jan 9, 2015 -> 12:42 PM) So will having their daughter near his unvaccinated kids. Are we sure Jay Cutler isn't Doctor Doom? He really seems like a supervillain.
  4. QUOTE (shipps @ Jan 9, 2015 -> 12:17 PM) I dont know. I dont see anything wrong with looking for the next QB and keeping Jay as just a stop gap. Unless he thinks Jay will effect every player he is going to bring in in the next couple years in a negative way that it cant be done. Well getting them hooked on cigarettes will probably affect them in a negative way, so maybe they should get rid of him.
  5. I'm not buying into Hendricks yet, and I want to see Arrieta continue to pitch well, but there's plenty of talent there anyways. Predicting them to win the World Series, however, is mere click bait or shock journalism. No one in their right mind should be predicting them to win the World Series.
  6. I think in like 99% of the cases, that's true. There are some where guys are going to get huge, mega contracts where they do take a home town discount. Jered Weaver is the one that comes to mind right away. He re-signed with LAA for like 5/$90 and people asked him why he didn't test free agency where he could have gotten like $120+ million and he just said "I'm happy here and that's more money then I'll ever need, so why would I turn it down?" Not that they need my respect, but my admiration grew for Weaver the same amount as the Grinch's heart grew too. Anyways, yes, I'd take whoever offered me the most money.
  7. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 9, 2015 -> 10:17 AM) He didn't look like he had any confidence at all. He looked very intimidated to me. Maybe that changes next time in the bigs for Wilkins. I thought his timing looked off or his bat was slow, but players can be OK with those, just not world beaters. I think if he were given a full season, he'd be exactly OK...probably a below average hitter but with a few home runs.
  8. QUOTE (ptatc @ Jan 8, 2015 -> 10:15 PM) From what I saw, I don't think Wilkins has a prayer in the MLB. The projections may be right but the swing and miss capacity of wilkins was astounding. Not that Danks is going to be any good at hitting but the comment that Wilkins is obviously alot better is not correct. I think passing judgment that quickly on a guy is the wrong way to go. I don't think he's a future star by any stretch of the imagination, but I think he's a safer bet if LaRoche goes down with an injury than Danks is to mimic that production. Anywayz, it [hopefully] won't matter.
  9. I don't recall ever having a snow day in Bismarck while in high school. I'm sure we had a couple but -15 and -20 below is expected here a couple times per year, as are heavy snowfalls. The only time I could have stayed home from school/work due to weather was a 36 hour, 18-24 inch snow that left most of Bismarck stranded at home. I was able to get out and went to work anyways because I had a Jeep and SNOW DON'T SCARE ME ONE BIT
  10. QUOTE (Blackout Friday @ Jan 8, 2015 -> 05:06 PM) I would have thought Raul Fernandez would be the obvious choice. They just picked him up last year. I think they are really, really intrigued by his arm and want to give him more time than that.
  11. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jan 8, 2015 -> 03:36 PM) When Andy Wilkins is a 1B and Jordan Danks is a CF, you need a better reason than that. No, I don't think so. If Abreu gets hurt, the season's pretty much over anyways, but if LaRoche gets hurt, Wilkins at least provides the talent to not kill the Sox offensively at 1B. Danks doesn't do that and hasn't played 1B anyways. QUOTE (Vance Law @ Jan 8, 2015 -> 03:36 PM) Yeah, but: Why would you keep Danks and DFA Wilkins? Because Danks is an excellent defensive outfielder and the Sox starting outfield at present are bad, injury prone, and bad at defense. And there's zero room for Wilkins on a team with Abreu and LaRoche. Not that excellent defensive outfielders are a dime a dozen, but traditional thought seems to lean towards being able to find good to elite defenders much easier than finding average to good hitters. QUOTE (ptatc @ Jan 8, 2015 -> 04:06 PM) He hasn't shown it yet. But maybe they think he can. I think, given his minor league track record and the most reason season we have on record, Wilkins is better bet to do something in the majors offensively than is Jordan Danks. It's very likely that Wilkins never sniffs the majors as a hitter or, if he does, it's in the form of September call ups or as a pinch hitter, but right now, I think he'd be projected to perform better offensively than Jordan Danks. For the record, here are the ZiPS projections for their batting lines. These mean little other than plugging numbers into a computer to generate likely splits: Wilkins: .242/.294/.437, .318 wOBA Danks: .232/.308/.375, .303 wOBA --- Also worth considering is that the Sox have indicated to Danks that they'd welcome him back with open arms and they know what he is, but perhaps they're doing this as a favor to him. Allow him the opportunity to see if another team in the majors wants him or let him pursue more playing time overseas or something along those lines.
  12. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jan 8, 2015 -> 02:50 PM) I really admire what the Chiefs have accomplished the past two years without an elite QB. I also think the Chiefs are a team that has a lot more overall talent than say the Saints. I realize that Alex Smith doesn't throw it down field very often, and I won't argue that he's elite, but how many teams would prefer to have or would be a much better team with Alex Smith as their QB? There are very few guys you can call elite, even if you want to stretch the definition to include a guy like, say, Philip Rivers or Matthew Stafford.
  13. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jan 8, 2015 -> 02:56 PM) Don't get why you DFA Danks before Wilkins. Because Andy Wilkins is a better hitter than Jordan Danks.
  14. QUOTE (Dunt @ Jan 8, 2015 -> 02:18 PM) So Viciedo is definitely staying with the team then Jordan Danks getting DFA'd and Dayan Viciedo remaining on the roster are not mutually exclusive events.
  15. QUOTE (raBBit @ Jan 8, 2015 -> 12:27 PM) Birmingham and the White Sox have the longest marriage of any MLB team and an affiliate IIRC. Charlotte is a remarkable minor league team and stadium. Beautiful park, great hitters environment and a great city. I am not going to jump on the "MLB team to Charlotte bandwagon" but the city is flourishing. Charlotte is a serious stronghold for the healthcare industry and as you can see by the pictures above, their skyline is surprisingly impressive. Both Charlotte and Raleigh have some of the fastest population growths in the country. Really great to have an affiliate there even if the Sox don't have any tangible stake in the business. I know I have heard both Jordan Danks and Axelrod refer to it as "the best place in the minors to play." For the record, I don't think MLB will look to move/expand a team to Charlotte in the short to intermediate future either, and the park is not able to handle an MLB crowd at this moment anyways, but if they ever view expansion as viable - and they've gone 16 years without expansion, which has to be the longest stretch in quite a while - Charlotte should be one of the areas that is considered.
  16. Let's compare EJ Manuel and Jameis Winston then. I think Winston looks like a much, much better prospect than Manuel, but Manuel had a really good numbers in that system, better than you may remember. http://www.sports-reference.com/cfb/players/ej-manuel-1.html
  17. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jan 7, 2015 -> 09:30 PM) Charlotte gained nearly 6,000 additional fans per game? Holy f***. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jan 7, 2015 -> 09:33 PM) Brand new stadium, and if you squint, you can see how they could add seats to make it an MLB park some day. Visual evidence: More at the link: http://liveuptownnow.com/charlotte-life/ev...ew-bbt-ballpark
  18. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jan 7, 2015 -> 09:30 PM) Charlotte gained nearly 6,000 additional fans per game? Holy f***. Brand new stadium, and if you squint, you can see how they could add seats to make it an MLB park some day.
  19. QUOTE (flavum @ Jan 7, 2015 -> 01:28 PM) John McDonald retired. Only noteworthy because there are now only 20 players left from the 1900's still playing in MLB. This would make for awesome trivia if you have the list.
  20. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jan 7, 2015 -> 01:29 PM) Sure you can. The goal is to build a long-term winner. If you have a shot at a guy you think is the franchise QB, you take him, no questions asked. We know we don't have a franchise QB on the roster currently. Absolutely. No other position can change so much of your team so fast than a good QB.
  21. QUOTE (raBBit @ Jan 7, 2015 -> 11:38 AM) Is that better than normal? Totally serious question. I was waiting for the 'El this morning when it was 0 and it felt like -29 today. Those 30 MPH winds are killers. Actually, considering this has been the coldest day of the season by far, yes, it is actually better than normal. It's still really cold. And I do want to make it clear that I'm not complaining because I, dare I say, actually like temps in the teens (so long as there's no wind), so as a result of living here and being a freak of nature that likes cold temps, I have to deal with really, really cold temps on occasion. 2-3 years ago, we hit -20 a few times, and like 4-5 years ago, there was a day or two where it hit -40. So yeah, if this is the coldest day of the winter, it will be a really nice winter. This won't be the coldest day of the winter.
  22. -8, feels like -22 Good day to be in North Dakota.
  23. QUOTE (MAX @ Jan 7, 2015 -> 08:32 AM) I think its more like our version of Goodnight Moon. Thanks, Jstix. Thanks, hi8is. Thanks, MAX. I think you mean C-Moon. Thanks, wite.
