  1. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Dec 23, 2014 -> 09:26 AM) I want the ipod, keep trading The iPod has already been traded 3 times, pick something else. Corn cob pipe, turd sandwich, or pick a new gift. (it's 3 bottles of pepto bismol)
  2. QUOTE (Benchwarmerjim @ Dec 23, 2014 -> 08:19 AM) I dont think Ryan has had trouble adjusting. He is fixing a broken farm system that started under his old watch and really dried up under Bill Smith (serious, go look up the Twins 1st round draft picks Before Buxton, it has not been productive). Smith did some good things like be more aggressive in the International market, but the Johan Santana trade (he was in a bad position with Santana poised to break the bank with a contract) and the bad drafting really set the franchise back. Recent comments during the Torii Hunter signing is a bit worrying. Asked about why did they sign Hunter despite all the advanced numbers saying he is a terrible fielder, Ryan said (paraphrasing) we've seen him play, we know what he can do. Molitior seems to have a bit of an open mind about advanced stats and say he plans on using advantages. But since he has never managed, its a wait and see thing for me. Molitor has said that he plans on playing Danny Santana at SS. I am excited about Vargas. The sound the ball makes coming off his bat is different. Its "that sound", you know what I mean? But he kind of hit a wall after Labor Day. I honestly dont know what he is going to be. Being the next Ortiz is probably reaching too high of a ceiling. I thought Kennys Vargas looked really good too, really sweet swing, quick bat, easy power. When he's patient and works the count, he's going to be as dangerous as any hitter in the game (I am specifically thinking of the Snodgress at bat here), but I think being an aggressive young hitter, he's going to have a few holes outside the strikezone, especially on changeups. I think people are kind of sleeping on the Twins and assuming they're gonig to struggle, but I think they may be just as close as the Sox are to winning the division and the Central is going to be really tight next year.
  3. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Dec 23, 2014 -> 09:08 AM) I bet you are just awful at a white elephant gift exchange You aren't happy with your turd sandwich?
  4. QUOTE (ewokpelts @ Dec 23, 2014 -> 06:55 AM) Tampa hasn't really been selling high in this latest talent dump. Plus longoria's contract off the books helps them in the long run. When they are in Montreal. So you're justification for getting Longoria for a turd sandwich and a corn cob pipe is that the Rays haven't been selling high, even though they got a future #3/4 starter in Drew Smyly, a well thought of prospect in Nick Franklin, and a very talented, very young player in Willy Adames for David Price who was a year and a half away from free agency. That's comparing apples to Longoria's oranges. He's not expensive, he's locked up for a long time, and he's still fairly young. He's going to cost the entire system.
  5. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 22, 2014 -> 05:42 PM) That's why nobody has done it before. Saban was starting to turn things around in Miami and they weren't looking to get rid of him when he went back to Bama.
  6. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Dec 22, 2014 -> 11:31 AM) Here was my team in my most important league (2-QB, PPR) QB- Andrew Luck RB- Jamaal Charles (traded Ben Tate, Josh Gordon, Keenan Allen in week 4) RB - Le'Veon Bell WR-Calvin Johnson WR-Mike Evans TE-Travis Kelce/Delanie Walker QB?FLEX- Drew Brees (Traded Julius Thomas who was a 18th round keeper and Phillip Rivers to a guy who was out of it at the trade deadline) K- Who cares? (But it was Justin Tucker all year) Def- We start 2 IDP instead of a team defense, I had Worrliow and Timmons (top 10 guys) The lowest points I had scored all year was 130ish and I had the most points scored all year. I scored 106 points this week. The team I lost to, the 6th seed with the 5th most points in the league, scored 141 this week. So I lost. Fantasy playoffs are bulls***. Jesus, that team is stacked and you got screwed. I don't mind monetizing the playoffs, but I have always believed in a payout that favors regular seasons or, at the very least, is about 50/50. My team sucked this year so I didn't have to worry about the playoffs, but only 4 get into the playoffs and we run 2 week playoff games - weeks 14 and 15 is the semi-final, 16 and 17 is the championship.
  7. QUOTE (ewokpelts @ Dec 22, 2014 -> 04:51 PM) And I doubt the sox would even need to give top talent up In the deal. Yes they would. Pretty much all of their top talent.
  8. QUOTE (LDF @ Dec 22, 2014 -> 12:40 PM) oh i understand and the excitement of Rodon getting to the majors and to establish himself. however the sox do not have that luxury to properly groom him. the sox are in need to get to the final missing pieces to make this team competitive to meet the other teams who are favored to be in the playoff. Properly groom him? I don't think it's necessarily a luxury, I think it might be a necessity. I think Danks and Noesi can be serviceable starters, but if they are not, Rodon may ultimately prove to be the best option.
  9. QUOTE (LDF @ Dec 22, 2014 -> 12:06 PM) the sox can not rely on an unknown and with hopes he can do great. not with the playoff and more at stake. this sox team is in total shambles before Hahn took over and the sox are against a stop watch to improve. I understand his ideology completely, Carlos Rodon is a far more talented pitcher and would likely produce results much better than either Danks or Noesi, but he's also a guy who will be around a long time plus there are service time restrictions that need to be considered as well. If it weren't for service time loopholes, Carlos Rodon would probably be breaking camp with the big league club and learning on the job.
  10. Carlos Rodon's ceiling is that of an ace. However, he hasn't even thrown 25 professional innings yet, so if they go a little slow with him (whether that's because he's not ready or they are saving some service time has yet to be seen, but it ultimately may work hand in hand). Between the minors and majors, I'd be surprised if he surpassed 160-170 innings.
  11. QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Dec 22, 2014 -> 05:46 AM) Give me the pick, I would rather hsve a constant stream of amateur talent going through my system. If you'd rather have a 2nd and 3rd round pick over David Robertson and Melky Cabrera, then I believe you are very wrong. I mean, look at this: http://www.baseball-reference.com/draft/?q...ype=junreg& Are you really going to tell me that having Melky Cabrera, a very good baseball player signed to a very fair contract, is a worse investment choice than bringing in a player of that caliber?
  12. QUOTE (juddling @ Dec 21, 2014 -> 06:00 PM) Today at Yorktown Mall, I saw Andre Dawson and Lee Smith signing autographs. I said hello and told them that even though I was a lifelong Sox fan, I admired both as players. They were cordial and talked for a few minutes even though I didn't pay for anything. when I mentioned the Sox, Dawson asked if I liked Tim Raines. When I said I did, he just laughed and said he could tell me some stories..... When he asked you if you liked Tim Raines, you should have said "do you mean ROCK Raines?"
  13. QUOTE (zenryan @ Dec 21, 2014 -> 10:09 PM) 9 pages on a player who isnt going to be traded. Yay Soxtalk
  14. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Dec 21, 2014 -> 03:52 PM) That would totally incorrect. Minor league rankings are a major factor in setting the trade value of a prospect. No, minor league rankings are a byproduct of a player's value. Teams will scout and rate players and, while they perhaps seek advice, they are not going to value a player higher because he was the 13th ranked prospect in the game. They are going to value him higher because he has a high ceiling.
  15. QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 21, 2014 -> 12:09 PM) That depends. Do I want to trade Chris Sale? Is that the best value that I'm getting? People act like there is a blue book value on players. The sox wouldn't make that deal because the white sox are not trading chris sale The Rays aren't trading Evan Longoria either.

    i am drunk

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Dec 21, 2014 -> 09:31 AM) I drank for the first time in a month last night(what?) and I feel like s*** today. The lesson here is drinking a lot and consistently is good for you. what happened to you man? I also got drunk last night...wedding and stuff.
  17. Minor league rankings are irrelevant. Oh, such and such a guy is rated highly, awesome. If that team's scouts have an aversion to that type of player, they are not going to trade for them. If you added Soler to that package, and a low level minor league pitcher, I think you may have something. Longoria is under contract at a reasonable price for 9 YEARS. He is insanely valuable still. If someone offered you Baez, Alcantara, and Almora for Chris Sale, would you take it? I certainly wouldn't, and it's an incredibly similar situation.
  18. QUOTE (greg775 @ Dec 20, 2014 -> 11:48 PM) I would much rather have gotten this guy than Melky. Coulda signed this guy and somebody like Aoki for cheap. Greg, when you take ridiculous stances like this, it would be better if you explain them. Melky Cabrera is a better player than Aoki and is far safer than Kang. Have you ever seen Kang play or have you just seen his numbers from the KBO?
  19. QUOTE (ptatc @ Dec 20, 2014 -> 10:11 AM) You have to let him go, if it's for 7 years. That is entirely too long. I guess one reason would be is to hpe he has season ending injuries in the latter part of the contract and insurance will cover part of it. However that's really depressing hoping someone gets severe injuries. I don't disagree whatsoever, just that it's possible. I think it will be closer to 6 which I think you can stomach so long as you believe he will be a capable pitcher all 6 years, including a mid to back of the rotation starter at the end. Samardzija has stuff that would seemingly age better given the downward movement of it.
  20. QUOTE (soxfan49 @ Dec 19, 2014 -> 08:37 PM) TRADE IDEA!! Sam Bradford and a 5th to the Bears for Cutler and a 7th. Bradford and Cutler have almost equal contracts for next year, but the Bears would be out of Bradford's after next year. When Tampa cuts McCown, sign him to compete with Bradford. Loser either 1) gets cut next January (McCown) or 2) walks away to FA (Bradford). Why would the Rams give up a 5th for a guy who is a riskier proposition while the Bears give up a 7th? If would be flip-flopped if anything, and I just don't see the Rams as a team that would take in a guy like Cutler right now.
  21. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Dec 20, 2014 -> 08:19 AM) I always figured that living in North Dakota proved how white you really are. Ohhhhh a tough guy are ye eh? Why dontcha come say that to may face ya hoser?

    i am drunk

QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Dec 20, 2014 -> 02:16 AM) Opened this topic, why the f*** was it closed, prime drinking nights going on now!! Drunk as a mother f***ing skunk This was most likely Kyle's fault.
  23. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Dec 20, 2014 -> 01:55 AM) Thanks for the pro tip. I don't understand the need for snark here, it's an entirely valid point. If he is 100% set on hitting free agency, then it's going to take a monster contract to retain him.
  24. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Dec 19, 2014 -> 08:27 PM) it's all premised on the notion that he maintains his .850 OPS for a number of years (which of course he didn't last year) and stays top flight defensively. My opinion is that he doesn't and that 2014 becomes the norm more often than the exception. He's a Tampa icon - they should keep him. I also don't like buying players for 6 from now at a past performance price. We'll find our own icons. It's not assuming he remains an .850 OPS for the rest of his career, it's assuming he remains a good hitter. If he's .800, that contract still justifies itself. What you are doing is assuming that he will have a major and significant drop off in talent for some unspecified reason because that's the only justification for implying that a guy will get substantially worse offensively and defensively. It would be like not trading for Mike Trout because you assume his bat is going to become a .750 OPS or 110 wRC+ and he's going to become below average defensively. To me, that seems like an irrational point of view.
  25. QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 19, 2014 -> 05:29 PM) I know we've all heard the White Sox spin on their chances, but the Cubs organization thinks he'll become a free agent http://www.csnchicago.com/cubs/jeff-samard...bs-vs-white-sox Not knowing who Pat Mooney was, I thought the article was awfully Cubs-tinted. And then it was like "oooooh I get it now, suck a D Mooney"
