  1. even if it's been posted before, I find it hilarious still
  2. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 12, 2010 -> 12:51 PM) I don't trade for a back of the rotation starter and send Hudson down "In case" someone gets hurt. I make that trade after someone else gets hurt. I'd agree, but an injury could easily happen in August or September. If it's in August, and the Sox are in 1st place (or even 2nd place with Minnesota/Detroit in 3rd place still within reach), either team could put a claim in on any feasible pitcher the Sox could get and the Sox are still left with Carlos Torres. I think a lot of what the Sox are going to do in regards to rotation depth depends on how they feel about Carlos Torres. If they feel he can be an adequate #5, they won't. If they don't, it's very possible that they will.
  3. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jul 12, 2010 -> 01:09 PM) I am saying he is the type of pitcher we will get. Not a big name guy, but someone who is a decent player. I agree with that, I just think that Lilly would be a disaster at the Cell. I think he is a semi-big name, and I think a team in the NL will overpay for him.
  4. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 12, 2010 -> 01:09 PM) I got those nuggets from an article Felix gave me. I don't know if it's luck or what, but the Twins won without any benefit of advanced player evaluation analysis. Weird... Success in old fashioned scouting, player development, and situational managing. It still works, but it's absolutely silly not to use tools that are provided basically for free. It's like building a house with hammers and screwdrivers instead of nail guns and drills.
  5. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 12, 2010 -> 12:37 PM) If we're adding a "Mid to back end of the rotation starter", then there's really no obvious reason not to go with Hudson instead. He's close enough to big league ready that he's got a good shot of being a mid to back end of the rotation starter this year, and there's possible long-term benefits in letting him pitch for the big league squad this year. That is also banking on the health of the rest of the rotation. Danks has never had any real injury concerns, save some blister problems from a few years back, but Floyd went down for a month last year, the Sox have almost coddled Buehrle at times in recent years, and Freddy Garcia is anything but a clean medical bill. Having a 6th guy - which is what Hudson would be - is still nice to have. On top of that, if the Sox do actually make a big move for a bat and need to trade Hudson, getting a back end of the rotation starter becomes a bit more of a pressing need.
  6. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 12, 2010 -> 12:40 PM) Yup, had he ran a good route to the ball, he wouldn't have missed three games as a result. And he could have 25 homers instead of a weak 19.
  7. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 12, 2010 -> 12:36 PM) The Twins are a very non-sabermetric organization. I'm surprised at their success w/o any sabermetric flavor. Their assistant GM doesn't know what BABIP and FIP are and thinks RBI is more important than anything. Felix has or had a quote from Bill Smith that said he'd prefer a pitcher with more wins and a high ERA than a pitcher with fewer wins and a low ERA. I get that he means he wants a pitcher with more wins, because it means the team is winning, but it's such a flawed quote that it's hilarious.
  8. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 12, 2010 -> 12:18 PM) Plus, no J.J. Hardy... So Cuddyer had to play 2B and 3B a couple of times. God he sucks at defense. He's one of the most overrated players in baseball. That outfield of theirs is really bad. If they didn't think they would miss Gomez's defense in CF, then they weren't thinking. He doesn't do anything offensively, but he can cover as much ground in CF as anyone.
  9. Realistic or pipe dream fantasy. Whatever. You know how these work. -Beckham continues to bounce back and ends this suckfest of a year with an OPS above .700. -Williams makes a couple of moves, one to add a left handed bat, and one to add another back of the rotation type to allow for flexibility for the rest of the season -Ozzie Guillen says that Tony Pena is his MVP
  10. QUOTE (girlslikebaseballtoo#26 @ Jul 9, 2010 -> 10:32 AM) OK ..this is why I hate reading what someone says and trying to interpret what they mean!! LOL Either you are being sincere and really believe everything is "f***ing awesome" or you're being sarcastic and basically saying "yeah yeah, everything is awesome, please shut up now" LMAO BUT ...if the first way I mentioned is how you meant it to be taken, then, Thank You tons ...AND if the second way I mentioned is how you meant it to be taken, then, Thank You tons!! hahaha ..If there is a 3rd way this could be interpreted and I missed it, my apologies ...I am f***ing awesome, but I'm not perfect! haha BTW ..It's in my honest opinion that MOST of you are pretty f***ing awesome yourselves!!! I was being dead serious. It's awesome seeing baseball from a different perspective then we are used to, the real life side of it, and it's a bit humbling, if you will. We sit here on our computers and talk constantly about what players are good, what players are garbage, who the Sox should trade for, and so on, and yet never get to see the personal sides of these guys. So you bring that, and it's really, really awesome.
  11. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 12, 2010 -> 10:03 AM) UZR doesn't agree with defensive efficiency, Twins are a +20 as a team, fourth in baseball. Although the other stuff is definitely weird for them. It must be the fact that they have a bunch of power hitters now. Great infield defense, bad outfield defense. Span has been a good defender, but Cuddyer has been dreadful in RF, and Kubel has been terrible as usual when he's played. Delmon Young has actually made drastic improvements from a horrendous fielder to merely a bad outfielder this year.
  12. QUOTE (JorgeFabregas @ Jul 11, 2010 -> 10:03 PM) Jayson Nix went hit 6 homeruns in 8 games earlier this month. Good for him. I'm not sad that he's gone, but it would've been nice if he did something--anything--for the Sox while he was with the team this year. He hit a pretty big grand slam off of James Shields. Didn't do much else, but he was never really given an opportunity to do much else. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Jul 12, 2010 -> 12:06 AM) John Ely was sent to the minors today, replaced by fellow former Sox farmhand Jon Link. There are some reports that suggest this might just be for flexibility reasons. The Dodgers won't need Ely for like 9 days or something like that and they could use the bullpen depth in the meantime.
  13. QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Jul 11, 2010 -> 10:48 PM) Unfortanatley it will likely cost the Sox both Viciedo and Hudson to get this done. With Peavy out- this would hurt us unless KW goes and gets another pitcher prior to this move. Attaining LaRoche and a mid to back end of the rotation starter won't cost Viciedo or Hudson. If the other team asks for them, the Sox should find someone else.
  14. QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Jul 11, 2010 -> 08:34 PM) All this talk about luck and FIP makes me want to sabre with you. just so you know, I read this as if you were Michael Scott.
  15. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 12, 2010 -> 11:43 AM) If we could get him for a package built around Jordan Danks and Carlos Torres, sign me up. I'll take that chance. But I doubt that will happen. And I don't like giving up Danks but I'd give him up before Morel and some other guys, especially since we have Mitchell and Tracye Thompson in the minors (well hopefully) as well as the emergence of this guy Alex Rios at the major league level. and some other guy named Carlos Quentin
  16. QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Jul 12, 2010 -> 11:09 AM) Berkman is FA after this year- it would only make sense to deal him now to get something for him. Im pretty sure Houston knows they need to start over. That team has been a mess for awhile now. He has a $15 mill club option for 2011 that he has suggested he wants picked up if he were to approve a trade anywhere. If the Sox were to be able to afford that, they'd likely need to find a new home for two of Teahen, Linebrink, and Pierre.
  17. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 12, 2010 -> 09:36 AM) Are there ever trades made during the ASB? Yes, but they are usually made the day after the ASG. Shannon Stewart was traded in 2003 from Toronto to Minnesota for Bobby Kielty on July 16th. The ASB that year was July 14-16. The only potential problem with trading during the ASB is that all the scouting prior to the deal needs to be done, or a GM would have to be absolutely wooed by a deal to make it happen. You obviously can't really scout MLB players during the ASB (unless you want to believe in the appearance during the game), and a lot of minor leaguers are on some type of break too.
  18. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jul 12, 2010 -> 02:14 AM) I think Kenny will manage to get both, just neither will be HUGE players, but both will be decent players. A player like Adam LaRoche that every one is throwing out, and maybe a Ted Lilly. Ted Lilly would be terrible.
  19. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jul 11, 2010 -> 11:58 PM) Tank with a huge bomb today about 4 rows short of the concourse in LF . Estimated distance about 435-450 feet. It looked like he struck it well off the bat, maybe enough to get into the first 3-4 rows. When I actually saw it fly that far up, I was amazed.
  20. QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Jul 12, 2010 -> 11:04 AM) What the hell is wrong with Keith Law? This morning on the Score they were talking about how the White Sox recent surge to the top of the AL Central was all smoke and mirrors and how the Sox took advantage of a weak schedule and they weren't really a good team. To be quite fair, most of the teams on that stretch were pretty bad. But it's not like the Sox didn't face good teams, or didn't play good baseball. I don't know how you qualify a 25-5 stretch and suggest that a team isn't good. I haven't ever seen a mediocre team go 25-5 over a stretch of 30 games. If the Sox acquire a big bat, they are going to be a very scary team.
  21. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jul 11, 2010 -> 05:27 PM) Quentin: .244/.344/.523/.867 and on pace of 38 and 121. Holy crap. Hell of a turn around. Those numbers would garner MVP votes.
  22. QUOTE (BearSox @ Jul 11, 2010 -> 04:45 PM) Batting .260~, doesn't play a real position, and PK and Youkilis both have better overall numbers. PK and Youkilis are both more deserving than Ortiz, and Swisher for that matter. Youkilis would be a good option too, but I would say that Boston is pretty well represented at the game, and it's not as if Ortiz isn't playing well. I think you're looking too far into this, and we should be happy that Konerko is at the game, period.
  23. QUOTE (hi8is @ Jul 11, 2010 -> 03:14 PM) I think that KW will not just get a left handed bat for the sake of getting a left handed bat. If Dunn or Fielder doesn't fly - look for him to explore right handers. Speaking of which - what RH bats could be had? This team really does have enough right handed pop though - Konerko, Rios, Quentin, and you can even consider guys like Jones, Ramirez, and possibly Beckham and Viciedo. They have no threat from the left side whatsoever, unless you consider Kotsay, Pierzynski, or Teahen threatening.
  24. This team has won more times in the last 30 games than they did in their first 57 games.
  25. Joaquin Benoit allowed a baserunner against Cleveland today. That raised his WHIP from 0.49 to 0.51 in 27.2 IP.
