QUOTE (GoodAsGould @ Jul 11, 2010 -> 03:34 PM) Hasnt Ozzie always carried 12 pitchers though, the most logical choice would have him taking Kotsay's place but we all know that wont happen. Oh I know he has, but I think Ozzie Guillen is a dumb dumb sometimes.
  2. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jul 11, 2010 -> 03:34 PM) Quentin leading off the bottom of the 8th. Pretty good odds on him hitting a three run shot here. yes

It's about time for Linebrink to go on his annual month and a half DL stint anyways, and the Sox don't need a 12th pitcher, so that's what I suggest.
  4. QUOTE (scenario @ Jul 11, 2010 -> 03:23 PM) 5-5 with 7 RBI's as a pinch-hitter since getting called up. thats just f***ing silly
  5. This is Beckham's first 3 hit game of the season.
  6. Quentin's 3rd multi homer game within a week.
  7. QUOTE (BearSox @ Jul 10, 2010 -> 07:45 PM) Deservedly so, even though it should have been a no brainer to begin with (seriously, David Ortiz!? Someone tell Giardi that the reserve DH doesn't actually have to be a DH). Ortiz is actually have a pretty stellar year. 7th in the AL in OPS, and one of Boston's top two hitters, depending on how you want to value Beltre's 70 point advantage in batting average (while actually having an OBP worse than Ortiz's). David Ortiz is more than deserving of a roster spot.
  8. Tigers lose. If the score holds, the Sox will go into the break with a half game lead in the AL Central.
  9. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 8, 2010 -> 07:37 PM) That's crazy. All those comments by Kenny saying, "It's early," seemed dumb but were true. Incredible pitching. With Putz, Thornton and Jenks throwing well ... it's just too bad Peavy went down. Like somebody said, the team appears flawed, but it keeps winning. I'd like to credit the owner for not panicking and firing the manager, the players for not cheking it in and KW for not panicking and making some bad trades. That said, we do need 2 bats (don't we?) and we need another starter (Jake was really good of late). Try to win 2 of 3 versus KC, White Sox. Just do it. The Sox really only need to add one bat. I can't figure out where the Sox would add a 2nd bat into the lineup. And they shouldn't need to add a starter from outside the organization with Dan Hudson coming up. He should be solid. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jul 9, 2010 -> 01:09 AM) The Angels played way worse than any of the NL teams we faced yet everyone's now on the bandwagon because its the Angels. Can't figure you guys out. You're all going to raise some psychotic kids some day. Winning the Rangers series was a really big one. Including the Sox series, the Rangers are 31-16 at home and have averaged 5.95 R/G at home. The Sox won 2 of 3 and limited them to 3 runs in all 3 games. That's huge.
  10. Quite frankly, I don't give a s*** what Keith Law says. If he said the White Sox were the favorites to win the World Series, would it seriously make anyone on here feel any better or any worse?
  11. A sweep and the Twins taking 2 of 3 would be cool since the Sox would be in 1st, but you can't worry about other teams. They've climbed back in the race, so all they can do is continue winning and wait for the rest of the league to sort itself out.
  12. I think Lilly would be a disaster at USCF. In fact, even though he's had a few good years, I think he'd be a disaster anywhere he went in the AL. In the NL, you can survive on smoke and mirrors, and that's exactly what Ted Lilly is right now. His average fastball is 85.9 MPH...that is going to get torn apart by AL teams that can play a DH to matchup with him. Even Andruw Jones would be able to hit him. The first pitcher I think of that doesn't have great stuff that has gotten by this year in the AL is Freddy Garcia. That's because, even though his fastball is only at 88 MPH right now, he's only throwing it 31.3% of the time. He's throwing his slider 25.2%, his change 23.8%, his split-finger 15.1%, and his curveball 4.6% of the time. The reason he is effective is because he is constantly keeping hitters off balance with his different array of pitches, and even then, only his splitter and changeup have been good pitches for him so far. Let Dan Hudson pitch. If he shows no signs of success, then and only then do you make a move. He's gonna be able to make like 4 starts before the deadline.
  13. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 9, 2010 -> 10:46 AM) All of those are very good omens. We made the playoffs every one of those years. They made the playoffs in 83 too
  14. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jul 8, 2010 -> 03:54 PM) For sure no doubt, but some people are acting like the kid needs to pitch against only teams like KC, Seattle, etc.. every night. Eventually he has to face the Bostons, NYY of the world. Luckally he already has that MLB experience from last year, and I'm one of Huddy's biggest fans so I know he can handle it. I think he'll be fine, but seriously, keeping him away from Minnesota would be for the good of the team. It's very possible that Mauer/Morneau/Kubel/Thome/Hudson could rip him to shreds.
  15. QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Jul 8, 2010 -> 03:48 PM) the best thing that could happen to the Sox is Seattle holds on to him until July 31st, even if he goes to Minny then his starts are reduced The best thing for Seattle to do would be to trade him to the NL in the next week and a half, so that way he's not even in the league anymore when the Sox head out west in 11 days. Assuming the M's go Felix-Lee-whomever out of the gate, the Sox are scheduled to face both Felix and Lee in Seattle, and then they'll face Lee again in Chicago too.
  16. I was going to go to whywaitforbooks.com to look at what books I need for the fall semester. Using Chrome, I typed in why and like 5 results popped up...2 of them are pages I've been on, and the other 3 were (in order) "why can't i own a canadian" "why is my poop green" and "why did i get married too" wtf
  17. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jul 8, 2010 -> 03:37 PM) No need to totally baby the kid. He's got to face the big boys/teams soon enough. But if you can line up your better pitchers against the better teams, then that's what you do.
  18. QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Jul 8, 2010 -> 03:23 PM) I wouldn't be surprised if Minny goes hard after a top reliever, even though they are 2nd overall in MLB with pen ERA for the year they were 17th in June with a 4.22 and 22nd so far in July with a 4.83 to go along with a June WHIP of 1.24 and a 1.37 WHIP in July, all trending down. They just genuinely need pitching in a bad way.
  19. It's even scarier to realize that in 2 of the losses, the Sox came back from 5 run deficits, and had either the tying or winning run up at the plate in both of them. not came all the way back, but atleast made it a game.
  20. If I'm doing my quick math right, a sweep of the Royals plus the Twins winning 2 of 3 against the Tigers puts the Sox 1.5 up in the division at the break. Obviously don't want to get ahead of myself, but it's fun to think about all the same.
  21. Hot diggity. Get him a lead and get to the showers.
  22. what a f***ing game. Whoever wanted it done in 2:10...you should find something to do for the next 20 minutes.
  23. I just generally don't think the Sox should be looking to acquire a front line starting pitcher period, regardless of whether he is a show stopper or there are red flags that may indicate an injury. The marginal effect that adding a good starting pitcher would have to this team would be far less than the marginal effect of adding a huge bat. Danks, Floyd, Buehrle, Garcia, and Hudson make up more than a formidable rotation, but this lineup, while effective now, won't get it done in the long run.
  24. QUOTE (SHIPPS @ Jul 8, 2010 -> 02:08 PM) Some would argue Paxson might have dropped the ball in all of this. no, that was Omar Vizquel
