  1. QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Sep 3, 2009 -> 05:04 PM) No, I meant Charlotte. His K rate was waaaay above his norms over the last two seasons during his stint with the Knights, but after the trade Allen's numbers adjusted and his K rate went back to where it had been before. I was using Charlotte as an example to show that his K rate in the Majors can't be expected to be as bad in the future as it has been thus far. It's going to take Allen some time to get used to MLB pitching, but he's a fast learner and once he learns something he's able to hold on to that and progress forward. He'll have his struggles in the Majors, and he'll have his prolonged slumps like just about anyone, but long-term I think he can become about a 60-70 BB, 100-110 K per year type of hitter, kind of like Paulie is. He was on like a 130 strikeout pace in Charlotte. How is that going to improve in the majors?
  2. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Sep 4, 2009 -> 12:05 PM) Bills fire Offensive Coordinator Schonert, replace him with Alex Van Pelt how the hell does Jauron have the stones to do this 1 week before the season starts yet he hung on to Shoop for 3 years. The Bills offense was dreadfully bad. Like worse than nails on a chalkboard bad. That's why.
  3. QUOTE (Frankensteiner @ Sep 3, 2009 -> 09:55 PM) By comparison, BA (who I think sucks) had an OBP of .322 when the Sox cut bait. Essentially we traded for a rich man's Gary Matthews Jr. or a poor man's Torii Hunter. Use the comparison you want. (don't mind slugging though, even though I know it's awful) besides all that, who gives a f*** at THIS EXACT POINT IN THE SEASON? no one. Bring me some Flowers. I want Roses. BTW, glad you could show up when they're playing awful again, even if it is 2 straight wins. 2 straight wins after a 2-9 stretch is still 4-9 And I still love seeing that prediction in your sig. I may have been wrong, but atleast I was right in the end.
  4. QUOTE (smalls2598 @ Sep 3, 2009 -> 07:47 AM) So no player named McCutchen had ever made the major leagues prior to this year. And now the Pirates have two rookies, an Andrew and a Daniel, who i don't believe are related. Kinda odd. uh, you tell me
  5. QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Sep 3, 2009 -> 01:27 PM) True, but check out his stint in Charlotte. Give him a year in a majors - or maybe just two months - and then let's see if he's striking out at similar pace. He was awful in Charlotte. You mean Reno.
  6. QUOTE (robinventura23 @ Sep 3, 2009 -> 04:19 PM) I agree. Carrasco seems to be moving/groomed into a more important setup type role. Torres could be the long man out of the pen next year. Carrasco is going to be 33 next year, FWIW
  7. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 3, 2009 -> 01:00 PM) Look at it this way if we go 10-0 and Detroit 5-5 we'd still be three back in the loss column. Get real. WITH 6 LEFT AGAINST DETROIT, f*** YEAH MARIO, YOU DA MAN
  8. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Sep 3, 2009 -> 04:08 PM) He could be a Carrasco type guy. I was thinking exactly that, with the possibility of being able to trust him in a slightly more important role.
  9. QUOTE (iamshack @ Sep 3, 2009 -> 12:37 PM) One of the better ideas I saw regarding Linebrink was about a month ago when Fathom suggested maybe trading Linebrink to the Dodgers for Juan Pierre. Pierre's contract runs through 2011 and he is owed $10 million in 10' and $8.5 million in 11'. Linebrink is also signed through 2011', and is owed $5 and $5.5 million respectively in 2010 and 2011. If you traded Pierre for Linebrink, you'd essentially be taking on $7 million and getting rid of Linebrink. The problem with that is you could probably just take that $7 million, resign Podsednik to a 2 year deal, and keep Linebrink. While many of you would probably rather have him gone, I'd probably rather have him around, all things considered, on the chance that he rediscovers his breaking stuff. I think the difference between Pierre and Podsednik comes down to defense, where Pierre holds a clear edge, but the money being relatively equal, I would rather have Pods and Linebrink rather than just Pierre. Pierre is worth that money almost based on baserunning alone. And I would personally have no problem with that deal either, as it gives Danks a full year in AA and AAA before being ready for the show. This is assuming an outfield alignment left to right of Pierre-Rios-Quentin. That is actually the foundation of a good defensive outfield. QUOTE (WCSox @ Sep 3, 2009 -> 03:37 PM) Even if Pods reverts to sucking again next year, I'd still rather stick with Linebrink. He's healthy and could easily revert to his early 2008 form. And our bullpen is in awful, awful shape. Plus, there may be a financial need to deal Jenks this winter, which would make our bullpen situation even worse. Linebrink did revert to his early 2008 form in the early part of 2009. This marks the 4th straight season that Linebrink has pitched well in the first half and poorly in the second half. You dump Linebrink for anything you can get at this point. He always comes out guns blazing and is out of ammo by July 1st.
  10. Carlos Torres has a spot on this roster in the future. I didn't see the game, but I've seen him pitch enough, and I think he has the stuff to retire hitters. He'd be a bad starting pitcher full time, other than in the NL, because he is erratic, but he could be productive out of the bullpen in the very near future.
  11. QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Sep 3, 2009 -> 12:22 PM) Yay he hits 30 homeruns, but over 500 plate appearances. That leaves 470 strikeouts with a a few walks and hits scattered in there. Too bad his walks and hits are completely useless since it takes 3 more consecutive hits to score him. it's better than Scott Podsednik getting on base 600 times but getting picked off or caught stealing 570 times
  12. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Sep 3, 2009 -> 11:15 AM) Damn, Target Field in Minny is beautiful... Target Pics too bad they can't use the air conditioning to their advantage anymore
  13. QUOTE (PeavyTime @ Sep 3, 2009 -> 11:12 AM) Ozzie and Coop keep saying we are contenders, but when you run guys like Wise and Torres out there, you know it's BS. Wake me up when Flowers or Hudson get some PT so I can at least get a preview of the future. just for you
  14. QUOTE (knightni @ Sep 3, 2009 -> 03:32 AM) Or, they could have offered the old guys on waivers earlier and showcased Allen at 1b like Arizona is doing. The White Sox were 1 game back of first on August 5th, and were 2.5 back as recently as August 23rd...and you're doing what now? Quite the contrary, had Pena come in and performed like a stud, it takes a hell of a lot of burden off of Matt Thornton, and then you can essentially throw Linebrink to the wolves. Pena performing would have been monstrous for the White Sox. Beyond that, there is always the possibility that Arizona could have dealt him to someone else. They've dealt quite a few players from that roster already, and it's very easy to assume that they would have dealt Pena too.
  15. QUOTE (IamPabloOzuna @ Sep 3, 2009 -> 08:54 AM) i was being sarcastic. and i didnt want to make it green. i wanted to incite a riot. Rocky Biddle could never incite a riot with his stunningly good looks.
  16. QUOTE (JoeCredeYes @ Sep 3, 2009 -> 08:15 AM) 6. Aybar 7. Tejada 9. Scutaro 12. Guzman 13. Theriot 15. To make 15 I'll toss in Freddy Sanchez, who has played some SS. jesus, I don't care for Alexei, but atleast I can appreciate what he does. This should be the first and last time that anyone seriously says that Cristian Guzman is a better shortstop than Alexei Ramirez. Juan f***ing Uribe is a better shortstop than Cristian Guzman.
  17. QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Sep 3, 2009 -> 11:05 AM) Forget about Beckham or Podsednik, who were huge unexpected boons that no one could have reasonably predicted or expected anything from on opening day. Given the roster we had on April 1, why were we put in a position where the only way we could've gotten to this point - 4 games under .500 - was to HAVE a huge unexpected boon from Beckham and Pods? Without them, this team was initially built to be 72-90. If the central argument is the Dye and Linebrink let this team down to the tune of 10 wins, give me a break. The vast majority of the major pieces produced at their expected levels, and Beckham and Podsednik more than made up for the disappointments of Dye, Linebrink, Pena, etc. This team was really not constructed to contend. We ended up "contending" because of our s***ty division, but come on. Part of the beauty of baseball is that you can add pieces on the fly like that. Had everything worked out the way the Sox wanted it to, they very well could have competed. That would have been with Wise being average in CF (most knew he was not), Quentin atleast putting up respectable numbers, and Fields putting up 30 homers. Neither of those 3 happened. If Pods comes in and fails and Quentin stays healthy and has a huge year again, are you seriously going to sit here and tell me that the team doesn't compete for the division title? Hell, I'd say they'd be closer in the standings and Jim Thome would still be a member of the team.
  18. QUOTE (b-Rye @ Sep 3, 2009 -> 10:49 AM) lol.. wise > dye/rios/kotsay . I think the only other team he might start on is a AAA team. Dewayne Wise is angered by you. You will pay. I hope you didn't make him too angry.
  19. QUOTE (knightni @ Sep 3, 2009 -> 03:11 AM) Trent Edwards is a definite sleeper if he has time to throw. I have my doubts.
  20. QUOTE (joeynach @ Sep 3, 2009 -> 03:21 AM) Read the silver lining!!! Build a team around proven high performing guys who do it year in and year out, without the tendency to go into dismal prolonged slumps, or wear down in the 2nd half. Do it with guys u aren't just rolling the dice and hoping and praying they work out with. Do it without obvious holes, without glaring weaknesses, without guys that u cant stand to see come into the game. If only the Sox could spend $150 million. Come on dude, even the Red Sox went through a stretch like the Sox did this year, and they have more talent, better minor league depth, and better major league depth to work with.
  21. QUOTE (rangercal @ Sep 3, 2009 -> 12:25 AM) If our line applies more pressure, then I think our secondary will be fine (at least average). I can see us making the superbowl, sure, I can also see us missing the playoffs. Mark my words, it will be up to the line. Not calling you out, but all 32 teams in the NFL can say that. Whether their goal is winning the Super Bowl or winning the division or winning a game, it always comes down to the trenches.
  22. I hope this team wins or loses every game from here on out. No in between.
  23. QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Sep 3, 2009 -> 01:06 AM) I'd thank both of them for their services and say "Never step foot on my field again, either of you. Take your slow beat up legs to another city." You don't have to sprint around the bases after you hit it out of the park. That, and the Sox don't have any type of left handed power in the lineup, and I imagine he's only going to sign with the White Sox or maybe Cleveland. If he doesn't get an offer from either, I think he hangs it up.
  24. QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Sep 3, 2009 -> 01:01 AM) We play 6 games against the Tigers, so in theory we could get to 6 games back, play at the same pace as the Tigers, and then we could sweep them in both series' and force another Game 163. I'm just sayin... Would also need the Twins to flounder a bit too.
