I once saw a cat in a hat

QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ Dec 5, 2008 -> 01:55 PM) hahaha, that might be the one that i do like. I'm pretty sure I'm the only person that realizes that all you do in those games is the press the right button when it shows up on the screen. Not exactly a mind building game. I don't know about you, but I don't play video games to build my mind. I play them because they are fun and kill time. And those games are amazing. It's simple fun, but it's challenging at the same time, and it's not nearly as douchy as DDR (no offense to anyone that is or was a DDR fan).

Nick Swisher was absolutely terrible last year and he still had a higher OPS than Ryan Sweeney.

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Dec 5, 2008 -> 04:26 PM) With Flowers, Dubler, Inoyue, and the Ghost of Donny Lucy still in the system, I’m not sure backup catcher is that big a deal for the future. Flowers is the future at catcher unless he's dealt, Donny Lucy will almost certainly never catch again, Dubler was drafted just this year, and Inouye played 54 games at low-A this season. I don't consider any of those real options at backup catcher. In fact, most are probably organizational guys that don't ever do much.

Ichiro is no longer an attractive option to me due to his $18 mill a year salary. That's a hell of a lot to give up for a singles hitter, no matter how damn good he is at doing it.

QUOTE (bighurt4life @ Dec 5, 2008 -> 05:34 PM) I meant to type Kemp and Pierre, don't know where I got Furcal from. then grossssssssssssssss Pierre sucks major donkey balls. I'd rather have Owens play, and I hate the s*** out of Owens.

Personally, I think everyone is overvaluing Escobar right now. I don't know how he bats, but it seems to me that he is the next Omar Vizquel at the very best, and that's how Cesar Izturis was valued at one time as well. There's no way in blue hell I'd deal Jenks for Escobar, and I'd honestly have to be convinced to deal Hardy for Jenks, merely because the Sox are losing a huge (no pun intended) portion of the bullpen in doing so. If the Sox deal Jenks to the Brewers, it'd be Weeks and a pitching prospect. Quite honestly, I wouldn't be surprised to see Weeks and Villanueva.

QUOTE (Cubano @ Dec 5, 2008 -> 07:58 PM) We are in America now. We became civilized. No more shorts, t-shirts and shoes with holes. LOL, I do enjoy. I think.

QUOTE (soxpride77 @ Dec 5, 2008 -> 08:23 PM) I never said only Gwynn, but I would definitly take him as part of the deal. I would also take a tuna fish sandwich as part of a deal, though it doesn't have much value to me. Carlos Villanueva would have to be involved, and you would need atleast one other too, possibly an elite prospect.

So, someone with a medical degree, how does a nerve actually heal itself? Is it merely because it's a local nerve thing or what?

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 5, 2008 -> 02:48 PM) Right, edit that out will ya. But people need to realize thats why Roberts wasnt traded last season and probably wont this season. The Cubs offer last season was probably better than the stuff mentioned on here so far this offseason, and the Cubs werent really that close. A similar package that was offered up for Roberts bought the Cubs Rich Harden. The O's undoubtedly would ask for Alexei in any deal for Roberts at which point their conversation is over. Which is funny, because unless the Orioles resign him, which is certainly a possibility, they'll get two draft picks for him. The fact of the matter is though that he's one of the best 2Bman in the game, Angelo knows that, and they're going to get top notch value for him if they does deal him.
-
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 5, 2008 -> 02:36 PM) The O's would most likely counter with a Alexei+Poreda offer which KW would probably decline. I wouldn't even include the word probably in there.

People seem to think that Cole Armstrong is a small price to pay, but I really could see him turning into a mediocre starting catcher for 6 years, which is really a pretty big price to pay with the organization's struggles in developing catchers.

QUOTE (joeynach @ Dec 4, 2008 -> 10:12 PM) Um are u serious. The white sox dont sign pitchers for more than 3 years, with the exception of Buehrle. No Sheets, no Sabathia, no top FA pitcher...ever. With Sheets' injury history, there are doubts he'll get anything more than a 3 year deal, and some have even suggested that he might take a 2 year deal. I think some team ponies up for a 3rd year with an option for the 4th, but it's interesting all the same.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 5, 2008 -> 11:41 AM) If a voter doesn't put Rickey on their ballot, they should have their voting rights stripped. I'm just glad I got to see Rickey play a little bit. He was an absolute blast to watch.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 5, 2008 -> 02:06 PM) Disagree. His play, offensively, was inconsistent. The majority of the season he was very subpar. he was not one of the best in the game in 2008. Note also the "smartest" comment - OC acted like a spoiled child, which is the opposite of what KW was looking for. Certaintly, OC wasn't some horrible player. But he didn't exactly live up to expectations either. I agree with everything you say except disagreeing with Dick's post. That was Orlando Cabrera in a nutshell, but he still shouldn't be a backup to any of the Sox current middle infield options.
-
Last year was Cantu's first good offensive season since 2005. You are also buying very high on him as well. He's also not very good defensively anywhere he plays, so saying he can play 2B is virtually like saying Josh Fields can play 2B, so I don't even consider that. I also wouldn't be surprised in the least if the Sox future catching combo is already in the organization in Flowers/Armstrong, and that's something to consider. The Sox obviously value Armstrong in some fashion, as I believe Ozzie has given him rave reviews before and they sent him to the AFL. If it's to trade, then so be it, but there's something there.
-
The Orioles would surely like a middle infielder as well, and the Sox have a glut of them at this point, even if some or most of them aren't good. One of them would go to Baltimore as well.

Stark Says Sox Signed Van Benschoten

QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 5, 2008 -> 11:28 AM) There's no doubt in my mind that Richard will be in the starting rotation. I really wish people would stop with this Marquez talk (such as Don Cooper). He needs to prove he can get AAA hitters out before getting a shot with the big league club. That's the one thing I hate with Gavin Floyd comparisons (other than the fact that it appears obvious that Floyd has much better stuff). Gavin Floyd spent what was pretty much an entire year in AAA before he even made the rotation, and the only reason he was starting in September was because the Sox were terrible. Anybody penciling Marquez into the rotation at the beginning of the year really need to consider if they want a 5.50 ERA as the #5 starter. Anybody that thinks the Sox are done making moves is naive, because there's no way they don't add a starting pitcher, even if it's at the expense of dealing Dye. -
QUOTE (joesaiditstrue @ Dec 5, 2008 -> 11:37 AM) He is young and has a lot of room to improve defensively, however he's already played some 1B for the Brave's in A-ball He's also 6'4, 250+ pounds, I'd have a hard time believing his ultimate destination is anywhere else than 1B KW has no problem having a mediocre to bad defensive catcher in AJ, why would he care if Flowers is mediocre to bad?

QUOTE (bighurt4life @ Dec 5, 2008 -> 02:21 AM) Dye and Poreda to the Dogers for Kemp and Furcal. except that Furcal is a free agent

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Dec 4, 2008 -> 10:06 PM) The difference between Hudson and JVB in my mind was that despite JVP being a closer he always had very raw stuff. Now, Hudson despite also being a great hitter was far more advanced as a pitcher in college then JVB was. I think that fact that one of them was drafted by the Athletics has a lot to do with it, because the A’s at the time were just getting out of the Kenny Rogers era, and were looking for a well-developed pitcher. And pretty sure JVB hits 31 homers in his junior year Kent State AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI SB CS BB 225 74 99 17 6 31 84 23 2 55 He also played for Kent State, as opposed to playing at Auburn like Hudson. -

QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 4, 2008 -> 08:52 PM) They might try and make him a hitter. rotoworld said his shoulders are so f***ed up that he probably won't make it I would believe it though, just because it's worth a shot. -
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Dec 4, 2008 -> 05:34 PM) His swing makes me think Vlad. I see more Miguel Tejada in it. But I can see Vlad too. He's definitely a big boy though for sure.

QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Dec 4, 2008 -> 06:46 PM) Oswalt scares me. That ERA has been rising the last 4 years, and that HR total made a pretty big jump last year. Still a solid pitcher, but probably not the best investment, given the cost. he's also been pitching in the powerhouse that is the NL Central for years too. Oswalt scares the hell out of me and I want really nothing to do with him. Halladay is an entirely different story and he'd be quite a haul.
