Cubs targeting Teahen? Does that make sense?
witesoxfan replied to caulfield12's topic in The Diamond Club
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Nov 19, 2008 -> 11:40 PM) Yeah, but we're paying Javy $23 million for two seasons. That's only a difference of only $1.5 million per season. I think I'd rather have Dempster's contract if I could exchange it for Javy's straight up as of today. I wouldn't think twice if it was 3 years intead of 4, but that obviously increases the risk to the Cubs. There is absolutely no way I take Dempster's contract over Javy's. Javy has thrown 198+ innings in 9 straight seasons, he's never been a terrible pitcher (though he has been a very mediocre pitcher), and he's the same age as Dempster without the stress from going to starter to reliever to starter. Oh yeah, and his contract is half of what Dempster's is. I'd much rather have Javy than Dempster...easily. -
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Nov 19, 2008 -> 11:41 PM) There was even talk they wanted Buehrle for Crisp, although that was ridiculous to Sox fans. yeah I never remember that talk...

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Nov 19, 2008 -> 11:20 PM) So in conclusion 2005 was great, and we have mixed feeling on the value of Carl Everett. Anyone have any new thoughts on this Swisher deal? no

QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Nov 19, 2008 -> 09:20 PM) His VORP wasn't high enough. It's important for us all to take a step back every once in a while to remind ourselves that Carl Everett was not one of the best DH's in baseball during the 2005 season. It's duly important that we remind ourselves that Willie Harris, Geoff Blum, Pablo Ozuna, and Luis Vizcaino are all now fringe players, and that Politte, Hermanson, and Cotts have never come close to replicating their career seasons. We must make sure we do not celebrate these players to the point where we forget to remind ourselves that 2005 was nothing more than a fluke. I do actually agree it was a fluke, and it was the greatest fluke I've ever seen and quite frankly participated in during my life.

QUOTE (MO2005 @ Nov 19, 2008 -> 07:08 PM) And everyone PLEASE stop referring to stats all the time as your reference. Stats don't mean s**t! Pods had a very low OBP when he came here the year before? What did he do again in 2005 for this team? I'm going to run into a wall as fast as I can. Someone call me in about an hour to check on me.

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Nov 19, 2008 -> 05:51 PM) We trade Jermaine Dye for Victorino? Why? Dye is still a solid ballplayer with much value to the Sox. You fill one need and open up a second Because Shane Victorino is a better all-around player than Dye is. KW would do it; Amaro Jr wouldn't.

QUOTE (Chi Town Sox @ Nov 19, 2008 -> 12:04 PM) I think I ask this every year and forget ever year, arond what time does the Spring Training schedule come out so I can start looking at some hotels and flights? Pitchers and catchers report in mid-February and the games generally start at the end of February and the beginning of March.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Nov 19, 2008 -> 02:36 PM) Anybody who thinks Affeldt can be a closer is a moron. He is awful. That's why I think in the offseason you can trade a Paullie or Dye and get a lot in return. If Paulie had a trade clause. Guys sound much better in the offseason, like MacDougal, Sisco, Dotel, Swisher. During the season when you see Paulie not hit 3 months, not so much. Affeldt pure and simple sucks. Affeldt has been a pretty damn good reliever the past two years. I wouldn't want him closing, but he has a good arm and has become a solid reliever.

QUOTE (MO2005 @ Nov 19, 2008 -> 03:42 PM) What is this??? Seriously this is a waste of a post! So if Kenny went with the posts people made are team would look like this Hinske Ramirez Quentin Thome Dye Konerko Varitek Pierzynski Getz Fields Colon Garcia Buehrle P. Martinez Danks etc. etc. We NEED SPEED!!! YOUTH!!

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 19, 2008 -> 02:41 PM) So did I. I think I had the crown for the biggest G-Load fan on this board, just as I now do for Ehren Wassermann. Gload didn't get a chance to start until too late in his career to really make it work. I still think, if he hadn't been blocked for so long with so many organizations, that he could have been a Wally Joyner type player (but without the roids). didn't Wally Joyner do steroids like one time and then realized what he was doing and stopped?

I've actually read where DeJesus was not that good defensively in CF, hence the move for Crisp, who is better. I also see them dealing players like Teahen and Shealy before they deal DeJesus and Butler. I wouldn't be terribly surprised to see Jose Guillen traded though either.

QUOTE (bschmaranz @ Nov 19, 2008 -> 01:34 AM) So we essentially traded Swisher for Jose Valentin then? there's a facial hair joke in there somewhere

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Nov 18, 2008 -> 08:17 PM) Not counting Giambi, of course. I think many will quickly forget Miguel Tejada and Mo Vaughn as well. Giambi I don't mind as much because, even if was a steroid user, steroid use was rampant. It's not justification, but he had an absolutely monster season. Tejada and Vaughn were worse, but Tejada atleast fits the "what have you done for me lately" slogan. He was monumental in their 20 game winning streak and was a stud in the second half. Morneau's second half stats would have made him a #6 hitter on most teams. Vaughn people haven't quickly forgotten about because it happened 13 years ago. I was 8.

QUOTE (3E8 @ Nov 18, 2008 -> 07:40 PM) Anyone try real cocaine? I want to hear those stories my buddy told me one time that his feet were moving really fast and then he started moving his hands real fast. He looked over to his friend, who had done it before, and asked him how he could control it. He just said you learn to do it. My friend then started rubbing his face, and it was numb as hell. That's about all I remember, I was pretty good and s***faced when he told me.

QUOTE (sircaffey @ Nov 18, 2008 -> 06:00 PM) Without Morneau, god knows where the Twins would have ended up. Probably behind the Tigers. He's the AL MVP in my mind. They probably would have been better in September with Brad Eldred as their 1Bman. Morneau is one of the reasons the Twins pissed the division down their leg.
-
QUOTE (Felix @ Nov 18, 2008 -> 06:38 PM) Justin Morneau is the most overrated player in baseball. Period. Congrats to CQ, hopefully he tops it next year. All he did for the Twins lately was put up a sub-.700 OPS in September when they needed him the most. It would have been disgusting if he had won it again, and he might have been the least deserving candidate in the past 10+ years of the award.

QUOTE (pcullotta @ Nov 18, 2008 -> 04:19 PM) Just to clarify, I didn't take a "sample size." Those were Kinsler's season total numbers. I did not extrapolate anything. I don't think Kinsler should have won the MVP, I just think that Pedroia winning it is a joke. It is sample size argument though, because Kinsler played in 36 fewer games. He was also terrible in the second half of the season before going down with an injury. Also, offensively, though Kinsler was probably better in the time he was on the field, he was also a worse defender than Pedroia was. Overall, Pedroia was about the 3rd most valuable player in the AL this year, and the two who were more valuable were Sizemore and ARod, so it makes atleast a little bit of sense as to why they'd give it to Pedroia.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Nov 18, 2008 -> 04:21 PM) You misunderstood it. The kid obviously filled the water cup with Mountain Dew, and when the lady asked why it was green, he had a quick, funny, brilliant comeback. I'll go on record and say I absolutely adore a beef & cheddar from Arby's. I don't know what all you whining girls are complaining about. EDIT: Wite brings up good points. It could have been Vault or Mello Yello... hell, maybe even Surge! You have no idea how badly I wanted to say Surge. I miss Surge.

QUOTE (Texsox @ Nov 18, 2008 -> 08:36 AM) Casual, business casual, or dress? When I first had to wear suits everyday, I hated spending what seemed like way too much money on dress socks and bought cheap. Give me the three pairs for $5. And even then, I was looking for a sale. Then I received as gifts some super nice socks. Damn, my feet were happy, I could dance, and had b-ball moves like Jordan. OK, I couldn't dance and the moves were more like Jordan Danks. Now, especially when hiking and backpacking I have top of the line socks that I consider equipment. Money well spent. for most of the socks I'll want just regular white socks...being in college still and having no responsibility to look nice going to class every day is nice. I do enjoy a very nice pair of socks though, especially dress, and while I obviously won't wear them with my regular shoes, they go well with my dress shoes. They feel nice.

QUOTE (DBAHO @ Nov 18, 2008 -> 04:18 PM) Ok, I'm never getting the water from Arby's after hearing that story. the water was pop, probably Mello Yello, Mountain Dew, or Vault
