for f***'s sake, I won't forget Ryan Meaux, and he's never pitched in the majors ever

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Nov 18, 2008 -> 03:55 PM) Gordon Beckham will get his first extra-base hit in a White Sox uniform in that stadium. They wear the uniforms of the big league club in the AFL. He's had several down there. well, the jersey and pants and everything...no Sox hat, so he can get his first extra base hit in a Sox hat helmet in that stadium

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Nov 18, 2008 -> 02:36 PM) Well Pujols finished with a VORP right around 100 (by far the highest in the game, Hanley was 2nd at like 80) and typically 10 points in VORP = 1 win, so at least according to Value Over Replacement Player Pujols was worth about 10 extra wins to the Cardinals making them a 76 win team without him. damn, I'm good...I didn't even look either. I'd like to think it's more too because I strongly doubt Ludwick and probably Glaus as well (though the transition from AL to NL is a bit easier) have the years they do without Pujols in the lineup.

QUOTE (pcullotta @ Nov 18, 2008 -> 02:33 PM) Pedroia Avg - .326 Kinsler Avg - .319 Pedroia HR - 17 Kinsler HR - 18 Pedroia RBI - 83 Kinsler RBI - 71 Pedroia SB - 20 Kinsler SB - 26 Pedroia OPS - .869 Kinsler OPS - .892 Pedroia - 317 MVP Points Kinsler - 1 10th Place Vote The biggest difference may have been games played, 157 for Pedroia and 121 for Kinsler Was Pedroia even the Best Second Baseman in the AL? Prove to me that Kinsler maintains that pace over his next 35 games. Also, based on pure runs created, Pedroia was tied for the 3rd best offensive player in the AL (I don't like the statistic, but it atleast gives some counting statistics that means something). You are using sample size, and if sample size is taken out and all numbers are extrapolated out to a full regular season, Quentin would have almost undoubtedly run away with the award and the Sox almost certainly wouldn't have played 163 games. To answer your question, yes, Pedroia was the best 2Bman in the AL.

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Nov 18, 2008 -> 02:56 AM) Ah, but he didn't exactly say that. Sorry, I just wanted to see what if felt like to play devil's advocate. Texsox has been hogging that recently . LOL K...Jenks hasn't been the best nor most valuable player on the White Sox roster since 2005.

Miami is easily the surprise team of the NFL, and Parcells at the helm is the difference. It blows when the only team without a Parcells' disciple, either directly or indirectly, in the AFC East is Buffalo. -
Thome and Dye have also been better than Jenks since 2005. Thome's put up an OPS near .950 in a Sox uniform and has hit 111 homers in 3 years. Dye's put up an OPS near .885 in 4 years and has hit 137 homers. I'd find it hard for a guy who throws 60-80 innings a year to be more valuable than that, especially considering how mediocre he was in 2006.

Twins' targets: Blake/Atkins, Hardy/Escobar
witesoxfan replied to caulfield12's topic in The Diamond Club
Cabrera wore out his welcome right away. And, seeing as how the organization wants Alexei to take over at SS, his presence is really not necessary. I found him to be an OK player too, but if the organization feels Alexei can handle SS, why not bring in another player who could be better at 2B? In that regard, I'd be perfectly fine with Orlando Hudson. -

I still think Egbert can be a major league pitcher. I don't know how good he'll be, but I'd like to think there's a shot as a back end starter or middle reliever. -
Guess Cuban's out of the running for Cubs
witesoxfan replied to caulfield12's topic in The Diamond Club
He was never going to get in anyways, considering Reinsdorf has a ton of pull and he knew it was a mistake to let him into the NBA, but it's safe to say that this is the final nail in the coffin. -
QUOTE (Gregory Pratt @ Nov 18, 2008 -> 12:13 AM) Great career IMO makes him a great pitcher. Not a Hall of Famer, or one of the very best of his era, but he's earned the right to be called a great pitcher. At the very least, he's earned the right to not be laughed at on a message board because someone wants to be like him. He's had three 160 ERA+ seasons. We're arguing semantics, but we're on the same page regarding Wake.

48 pairs of socks and a new pair of shoes I can wash my socks all I want to right now, but they still come out of the drier crusty with godknowswhat secretions out of my feet and these cheap $10 shoes I currently have. I'm going to give my old ones to my brother/give them to the Salvation Army/throw them away. there's other stuff too, but that's something a lot of people probably don't have on their lists.

QUOTE (rangercal @ Nov 17, 2008 -> 10:19 PM) If you define "great" as "gimmick" and/or "mediocre", then I will agree with you. He lasted a long time, that's all I will give him. He was way too inconsistent and unreliable at times to be considered great. He's been league average or better in 8 straight seasons and has a career ERA+ of 108. I won't go as far as saying he's a great pitcher, but he's been a good pitcher who is durable as hell who has had a great career.

I think it's worth noting that St. Louis won 86 games (which would have won the division in the West), and I would like to imagine that they are probably a 76 or fewer win team without Pujols.

the Bills now have to win 5 of their next 6 to make the playoffs...it's not impossible, but it's not likely in the least. KC and San Fran are winnable games, and then Miami goes up to Buffalo, so that could be 3, but 3 against KC, Denver, and New England, including 2 on the road, looks hard as hell. I won't count on it. It was good to see Lynch actually have a good game, and Steve Johnson had a good game as well...they still just aren't a real good offensive team yet. Hopefully a nice tight end is brought in during the offseason to help out, because Royal just isn't that good and neither Schouman nor Fine seem like anything more than backups. -

that vanilla offense at the end of the game cost them, not Lindell missing the kick. f***ing Jauron is assuming Lindell is going to nail it from 45-47 yards, even though it's into the wind and cold as s***...why not have a little faith in your QB and try and get 15 more yards? He looked fantastic on that pass to Royal, and then they just run it 3 f***ing times. What a brutal coaching job. There's potential here for the future, but there's a lot of work left to be done. It's not happening yet. -
QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Nov 17, 2008 -> 03:10 PM) The Yankees want him, we dont stand a chance. I'm going to disagree with this 100%, and I would disagree more if possible.

Dan's sleeper pick of Escobar no longer looks like a sleeper pick. -
QUOTE (BearSox @ Nov 17, 2008 -> 07:27 AM) I'm pretty sure the Dodgers drafted a girl a few picks before they drafted Piazza. Carrie Schueler was drafted ahead of Placido Polanco at one time. I think the importance of this is not that it's a female, but it's the club drafting a female with intentions to have her actually play.

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Nov 15, 2008 -> 09:06 PM) You ever actually have it? It's delicious. EDIT: I just heard that it's called rooster sauce. You've clearly had it and know it's the greatest thing ever. Sriracha is badass. I cook with it all the time and just love it.

Failing to offer arbitration to Cabrera would be dumb as hell. He's almost certainly going to sign a multi-year contract elsewhere and even if he accepted arbitration, the Sox would be able to deal him with the number of teams looking for a shortstop, even if two of them are in the AL Central.

"Don't Trade Vazquez" official thread
witesoxfan replied to Paint it Black's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Disco72 @ Nov 15, 2008 -> 10:22 AM) As an aside, there are plenty of examples of pitchers with worse performance getting paid more than Vazquez (see Zito, Barry... Silva, Carlos...etc.) Just because a $9 hamburger tastes better than a $12 hamburger doesn't mean that there isn't a $4 hambuger that tastes best of all. Kind of an off the wall analogy, but it holds up. If KW thinks he can get an upgrade in the rotation by trading Vazquez for cheaper, he will. -
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Nov 16, 2008 -> 11:36 PM) Who do they have to trade for him? Well, Mijares or Breslow (LHR)...to replace Fuentes. Then someone like Brendan Harris, Buscher, Ruiz or Punto. I also see a little interest in Cuddyer, although he's getting expensive. Of course, the Rockies would prefer Jason Kubel or Denard Span instead. I see no way that the Twins would deal Mijares. I could envision him as a dynamite closer someday with his stuff. Breslow on the other hand is nothing more than a LOOGY from what I've seen. Righties didn't hit him well this year, but he faced nearly as many lefties as he did righties. I also don't have the inherited runners stats, but that would be interesting to see.
