  1. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jul 6, 2008 -> 07:19 PM) and to think, jackie hayes is willing to b**** about his day while heads is busy going through hell trying to fight out the statewide flood and alien banana peels
  2. so, long story short, we have pulltabs at the bar I work at...yeah, pulled a $300 tonight after putting in $10..this after I pulled a $200 last night. I love birthday karma...of course, then my dog bit me, the son of a b****.
  3. Thanks John Danks /obligatory
  4. All I'll say is that it's a crying shame that Varitek is in the game seeing as how there are like 12 other better candidates.
  5. There's no way Thomas's 1994 is not the greatest season in the history of the White Sox. He had an OPS of like 1.200, and other than basically Bonds and Ruth, it's one of the greatest OPS's of all time.
  6. QUOTE (daa84 @ Jul 6, 2008 -> 09:12 AM) ill give you the other points...but i strongly disagree with this...especially in terms of the pitching... I meant offensively
  7. QUOTE (daa84 @ Jul 5, 2008 -> 08:45 AM) if you had to list the top 5 offenses in baseball to this point...i suspect most all of you would certainly say texas, boston, philadelphia and the cubs were 4 of the five....but how many of you would say the minnesota twins are 5th?? Well, they are, and this team isn't going away. In addition to the 5th highest scoring offense in baseball, they also have a pitching staff that is quietly developing a handful of very good starters....Slowey, Baker and Blackburn all have ERAs under 4, and even Glenn Perkins has a 4.31..... If only teams could regularly hit .310+ with runners in scoring position. Don't get me wrong, it's a talented offense, but it's a down year in the AL and they, honestly, have been lucky as f***. I imagine even benchjim would tell you that. They have a shot to compete with Liriano potentially coming up at some point and by acquiring a bat, but I don't think they have a chance at being the best team in the division with the roster they currently have.
  8. QUOTE (knightni @ Jul 5, 2008 -> 11:05 PM) I didn't know that they shipped that in the mail. you'd be quite surprised
  9. holy f***, power hour (in the bars) is illegal in north dakota and I did it anyways...I love working in a restaurant and the day has only begun...if I do not speak again, I love the Sox and I love all of you
  10. QUOTE (knightni @ Jul 5, 2008 -> 11:44 PM) Sometimes you have to wait until the next business day. Not this guy, I use priority and get it shipped immediately
  11. I'm going to get drunk regardless tomorrow. Celebrating a birthday, the "memorial" of 7-6-07, and a Sox win would be a-OK by me.
  12. I think it's also a matter of him trying to get ahead in the count and, coming fresh out of the pen, his stuff isn't 100% on that first pitch every time.
  13. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 4, 2008 -> 10:03 PM) Ramirez is 3 for his last 18. His OBP is a whopping .309. Someone explain how he would have made up the 6 run difference? During that 3 for 18, he also has only struck out 1 time, he's homered once, he's had a sac bunt, a sac fly, 3 RBI, and 2 runs scored. As a 9 hitter, that is perfectly fine during a player's cold spells. Alexei is also 10 for his last 33 (.303), 5 RBI, 4 runs scored, 2 homers, 2 doubles, those two sac hits, and 5 strikeouts. That's good for an .845 OPS. oh, and FWIW, Uribe was 6 for 22 going into tonight's game...2 doubles, no sac hits anywhere to be seen, 3 runs, 2 RBI, and 5 strikeouts. That's good for a .637 OPS. And Uribe, even though he had a DL stint, hasn't drawn a walk in almost 2 months. That would be 0 walks in 32 plate appearances. and, since you can cherry pick stats, Uribe is 7 for his last 32, 0 walks, 2 doubles, 3 RBI, 5 runs, 8 K's, and he grounded into a double play in the meantime too. .500 OPS during that time period. Yeah, real good option there, let's try and run out the player who hasn't been an average major league hitter since 2004 who might accidentally run into a fastball and send it into the stands regardless of the number of runners on base...for a first place team. You seem to be arguing not that Uribe should have been in the lineup but that Alexei wouldn't have made a difference...why wouldn't you put your best team on the field when, quite clearly, Alexei Ramirez is a far superior option to Juan Uribe at this point in time? Argue that Uribe needed playing time atleast, not that Alexei would have made no difference. QUOTE (almagest @ Jul 5, 2008 -> 12:55 AM) Juan Uribe 2008 OPS+: 57 Carlos Quentin 2008 OPS+: 136 Jermaine Dye 2008 OPS+: 139 Yep, certainly a valid comparison there! Juan Uribe = Carlos Quentin = Jermaine Dye. Uribe for the 2008 All-Star Game! Sometimes I wonder about some of you... thxmch, +1 my problem isn't so much that Uribe is getting playing time - I'd much prefer Uribe on the roster than Ozuna - but rather that he is used in the right spots. However, barring injury, he should never get two days in a row in the starting lineup ever. He's not going to get in a groove anyways, so why would you even try?
  14. QUOTE (3E8 @ Jul 4, 2008 -> 10:50 PM) Dude she had those huge glasses on that covered half her face, I doubt it was her I'm sure he has a pretty good idea it was her.
  15. QUOTE (YASNY @ Jul 4, 2008 -> 02:40 PM) I'm sorry, but I disagree with your comment about the 'constant cheerleading of our military forces' getting tiresome. I think ever opportunity should be taken to recongnize and honor the fine young Americans that step up and volunteer to serve their country with the very distinct possibility that they are putting their very lives on the line. From an individual shaking a soldier's hand, buying him a drink and saying thank you to a small gathering in an airport greeting soldiers returning home with a small standing ovation to various large scale public recognition like today's game, I believe they are all appropriate and well deserved. f***ing Bravo just FWIW, my new brother-in-law is a member of the US Army...he was stationed in Iraq for about a year. Anyways, I'm a bit of a modest person and, other than the minor compliment, I'm not a person to give a ton of thanks for, really, anything, unless it really means a lot to what I feel is a greater cause, be it right or wrong. Putting your life on the line for the country I live in is a greater cause, and anybody anywhere giving thanks to the military on any given day makes my day, even if your dog took a s*** on me while I slept. Thanks Yas.
  16. QUOTE (knightni @ Jul 5, 2008 -> 02:33 AM) You'd like to think that, but Pohlad's been known to change his mind if the team gets too expensive. Not after a player has signed an extension...don't be ridiculous. There's a reason that played signed the extension in the first place. Besides that, the Twins will be buyers long before they will be sellers. I mean, you know, they are only 1 game out of first place. Let's not act like they are a near cellar dweller hoping for a hot streak to get back into contention here.
  17. good job on the kiss
  18. QUOTE (Brian @ Jul 4, 2008 -> 01:46 PM) With Konerko coming back Tuesday, Gonzalez writes that Swish, will of course, go back to CF. With the way we have played since Kong went to the DL, it enforces that fact that Thome is clogging the line up. I like the platoon of BA and Wise in CF. I'd like Swisher to RF and DH Dye, personally. A healthy and productive Konerko can clog my bases any day of the week
  19. QUOTE (WISOX @ Jul 4, 2008 -> 11:13 AM) I lost this place. I haven't been in here since last season which sucked however, I'm still here waiting for my lifelong dream of seing us beat the Flubs in the WS in 4, 5, 6 or 7 games. I sure wouldn't want to beat them in 8 games.
  20. give Egbert a good luck kiss before the game tonight so he pitches well and lowers that ugly ERA
  21. yeah this was pretty much bound to happen whether the Indians were competing or not
  22. QUOTE (chimpy2121 @ Jul 3, 2008 -> 02:18 PM) They should just be the Oklahoma City Spartans. They'd go undefeated their first 2 seasons! (That's a GLB reference only a couple of people will get). until the slowass corner who was great against s***ty players all year gets lit the f*** up in the playoffs
