  1. QUOTE (earthshiner @ Jul 4, 2008 -> 01:27 AM) new palehose is perfect http://palehose8.blogspot.com/2008/07/rerg...-of-paulie.html WE NEED TIMO BACK
  2. QUOTE (Brian @ Jul 3, 2008 -> 09:36 PM) Wayne Gretzkey's daughter yes
  3. QUOTE (Brian @ Jul 3, 2008 -> 09:31 PM) I can't imagine any team giving up anything for Uribe unless they are totally clueless. I'm not sure you fully understand how desperate the Dodgers are for anything resembling a major league shortstop. Hu has been terrible and they've resorted to Angel Berroa and Luis Maza, so yes, Juan Uribe would be an upgrade in LA. They tried to trade Loaiza for him already, so there's atleast a bit of interest from them.
  4. QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Jul 3, 2008 -> 02:38 PM) I would argue Geoff Blum did more than Uribe to secure the series win. When the Sox went up 3-0, everyone knew they were going to win the series at that point. Had Houston won that third game, the series could've gone either way. Granted, the foul ball was a spectacular play, but in the context of the series I don't see it as being particularly crucial. I think it's easier to canonize because it was such a difficult play. I would argue that the Astros had Clemens, Pettitte, and Oswalt going the next 3 games and that nothing was ever said and done even with the Sox up 3-0 without that win in game 4. The Sox have hit Clemens well over the past 8 years or so, but I wasn't feeling comfortable with the potential of him starting game 5 and then having Pettitte and Oswalt backing him up, especially since, outside of 1 inning, those two pitched the Sox very well. No, Juan Uribe was more vital in the championship than Geoff Blum and, in my mind, saying otherwise is ignorant.
  5. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jul 3, 2008 -> 06:57 AM) It's not like .873 OPS is bad, though. That's still a pretty damn good line. But if you are trading for Matt Holliday, you are trading for a guy that you assume is going to hit put up a .975-1.000 OPS, not .873. I've never said he's not good, and I actually thought he should have won the NL MVP last year, but he's overrated as hell outside of Coors Field and I think any team trading for him will end up slightly disappointed.
  6. QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Jul 2, 2008 -> 11:35 PM) That's exactly my observation -- with his relative health over three season Jenks has lost velocity while Wood, who has endured injury issues for nearly a decade, is throwing just as hard as he did from day one. I've never suggested Jenks is the inferior pitcher, though. It has just been my unsubstantiated belief since last season that Jenks isn't long for this league. You expect hardthrowing pitchers to eventually lose velocity, but it seems to have happened much too quickly with Bobby. How effective will he be at 90-92 mph? I don't know, maybe he'd still be a decent middle reliever (4.00-4.50 ERA). Those are certaintly valuable, and I'm sure if the velocity drop occurs before he reaches free agency we'll still hold onto him. I don't think Jenks will ever get to 90-92; to the contrary, I think if absolutely necessary, he could get it up to 98-100. Cooper historically asks pitchers to take a bit off to get better control and movement on their pitches. That's exactly what Jenks is doing and it's one of the biggest reasons the White Sox staff has been among the healthiest in the league over the past 5 years or so. That, and the conditioning and training programs the Sox have. I also don't think Wood will be healthy at the end of the season. If he is, I'll be surprised as hell. QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Jul 2, 2008 -> 11:42 PM) He's hitting .338 with a .423 OBP and he's over-rated. 2008 .362/.441/.610/1.051 at Coors Fields .309/.401/.472/.873 on the road. Career .363/.427/.656/1.083 at Coors Field .277/.340/.450/.790 on the road Yeah, just try and convince me he's not overrated. 200 point difference in OPS this season, 300 point difference in his career. So, just wondering - if he does, in fact, get traded to St. Louis - can he still play half of his games at Coors Field?
  7. QUOTE (earthshiner @ Jul 3, 2008 -> 01:01 AM) if he comes back and the sox start losing then you have to bench and go back to what was working. Pauly has a history of sucking and I see no reason why he should just waltz back into the starting spot. I'd love to see this history of sucking...what a ridiculous statement. Please do something to prove yourself right, because the only year he "sucked" was 2003, and he was right at his career norms last year. With the first point, I disagree completely. If he comes back and doesn't perform AND the Sox don't win, then you start to go back to what was working.
  8. QUOTE (TCQ @ Jul 2, 2008 -> 02:10 PM) Many ramirez is an arrogant ungrateful jerk. I remember last year when they were in the playoffs and he said i dont care if we win people act like we wont be back. That is the worst attitude ive ever heard. He is just another example of a person given all the talent in the world and taking it for granted. What if he had blown his knee out the first day of his career hed be back in the dominican picking mangos, he disgusts me. My first point is that, to me, it shows Manny has the utmost confidence in the front office, coaching staff, minor league system, himself and current players within the system. It's not one of the worst attitudes, it's one of the best and it kept the Red Sox relaxed as they went on to win the Series last year. It seemed to work. Secondly, the picking mangos line seems pretty damn prejudicial to me, especially considering Manny Ramirez has resided in the United States for like 25 years now.
  9. QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Jul 3, 2008 -> 12:08 AM) For all of Kerry Wood's injury issues over the years, it's amazing he's still throwing upper 90's; yet a certain pitcher on our team has lost five mph on his fastball in just three seasons. and the one that's lost 5 MPH on his fastball has been healthier over the past 3 years than Kerry Wood and he's arguably been better than Wood this season, even if he has 30 fewer strike outs.
  10. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jul 2, 2008 -> 09:56 PM) that kid is 22. book it. no way he's REALLY 16 Yeah I strongly doubt that. It doesn't even look like he's used a razor in his entire life. I don't know how you can say "that kid is 22" and guarantee it. 6 year differences between actual age and reported age never happen. He looks 16 to me.
  11. QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Jul 2, 2008 -> 09:18 PM) Not if the Cards get Holliday and the Brewers get Fuentes and Sabathia. Then, it'll be a 2 team race for first with the Cubs in 3rd. Right, because the Cubs are just going to fold up like a chair and go back into their hole if that happens. I'll just go ahead and disagree with that entire notion. The Cubs offense is good enough that it alone should win the division for them and that they'll add a reliever or two to get them to the end of the year. Their starting should be good enough, but the key is the end of that bullpen. Holliday is overrated, the Brewers will still struggle to get to Fuentes even if they did pick him up, and I'm not sure the Rockies will even be selling. They're 8.5 out at this point yet on the verge of selling while some people say the Tigers still have a shot at winning the division and they're 7 back? That doesn't make sense, and I don't see the Rockies as dealers. I'd be more than happy if the Cubs blew it and were kept out of the postseason, but I'll believe it when I see it.
  12. QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Jul 2, 2008 -> 10:20 PM) Kool beanz, Tex! Probably going out on a turtle walk this weekend to see some nesting. The leatherbacks have come and gone and the loggerheads are winding down, but there should still be a lot of greens coming up. We are talking about turtles still, right?
  13. It's not good to have back pain in a bigger guy, but I'm more relieved to find out it's that than something in the shoulder or elbow.
  14. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 2, 2008 -> 09:57 PM) Dumb question. The recent explosions by Thome and Swisher prove that you don't give up on proven vets after a bad month or even two. As soon as PK is ready to go, throw him right back out there. This is a great point as far as I'm concerned. However, the key to it is to throw him back out there when he is ready. If he's not ready, don't rush it, because the Sox are playing just fine without him. Let him hang around on the DL until he is 100% ready to go.
  15. CC has a 5.11 ERA against the Sox this year in 2 starts, and Contreras is at 1.50 in 1 start. In that start, he beat Sabathia. I would have no problem either way with this game being played or not.
  16. I don't think the third is that top secret cuz I think someone knows it. But maybe a little secret.
  17. QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Jul 1, 2008 -> 11:47 PM) You mean "one hell of a race between the Brewers and the Cards"? for second place probably
  18. QUOTE (Benchwarmerjim @ Jul 2, 2008 -> 01:13 AM) What do the Tribe have to trade (Besides CC) Casey Blake could probably help a club. Jamey Carroll could be useful...anything else? Dellucci, if someone wants to take on the rest of his deal Byrd possibly Betancourt and Lee I could also see both Hafner and VMart, but those are much less likely. It's just hard for the Indians to justify trading quite a few of their players.
  19. QUOTE (knightni @ Jun 30, 2008 -> 11:11 PM) What do these baseball men have in common? Bobby Cox Gene Michael Joe Pepitone Rocky Colavito Dick Howser Mel Stottlemyer Jim Bouton Al Downing Uh, they all played on the 68 Yankees together, so I'm sure it has something or another to do with that
  20. there is smoke and haze all around tonight...it's crazy. You just look into the northern sky, and it's a dark brown color, almost like a light glowing. Pretty sweet...other than the scent of smoke in the air.
  21. QUOTE (Frankensteiner @ Jul 2, 2008 -> 12:09 AM) I don't think Garcia would qualify as a high risk guy. To get him, a team has to sign him for a couple of months of the season without giving up any talent or draft picks (that I know of). It's the ultimate no risk. except for the $2-3 million you'd have to throw at him
  22. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Jul 2, 2008 -> 12:00 AM) Two guys that weren't even on the 25 man roster the first several weeks help us win tonight. Congrats to Russell on the first major league win, Wise and OC manufacture the run after Alexei creates one by himself. Danks. It is hard not to start to believe watching a win like that. I think we have to get rid of Uribe when PK comes back too. I know only having Ozuna as a backup IF is a risk, but Russell and Wise have shown they can help you in spots as reserves, something I'm not sure Uribe can do. Great win!! Uribe has 3 hits, including 2 doubles, in 5 pinch hit appearances this season. He's perfectly fine off the bench.
  23. QUOTE (knightni @ Jul 2, 2008 -> 12:51 AM) Never forget. probably the greatest defensive play I've ever seen in a World Series game, everything considered, and it's probably second in the postseason to Endy Chavez's catch a couple years ago to save a 2-run shot, even though it didn't really mean much in the end because the Mets still lost. Still, that 9th inning was a thing of beauty.
  24. QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Jul 1, 2008 -> 11:51 PM) What a week- Sox have won 6 of 7, Hawks get Huet and Campbell, Bears give Harrison and Bennett contracts, and the Bulls have a franchise player in Rose. The Sox have actually won 6 in a row and 7 of 8.
  25. Thome had a very good 2007, and Jermaine Dye's 2007 was one of the most underrated on the board. It's no coincidence that the team was actually respectable in the second half because Dye absolutely tore the s*** out of the ball.
