  1. QUOTE (DrunkBomber @ Jul 19, 2008 -> 11:41 AM) He had one good season early on and that was before defenses knew how to scheme him. They werent terrible his last few years there. They managed to stay around 500 most years but that was also when Tampa and New Orleans were going through some rough times. His accuracy is worse than any QB in NFL history. He makes poor decisions, he gets flustered and he exhausts his whole offense with his style of play. He had 4 years as a full-time starter; in his first two, they won 20 games and made it to the NFC conference championship. In 2006, his receiving core consisted of Crumpler (who was his only good receiver), White, Lelie, and Jenkins; Warrick Dunn and Jerious Norwood were his main backs; the defense was mediocre. Yet through it all, they won 7 games. Is there a QB (and probably coaching staff too) not named Manning or Brady that wins 7 games with that team? Without Michael Vick this past season and with Roddy White stepping up and becoming a big time receiving threat and with Chris Redman being a pretty damn good QB, they still lost 12 games. To me, that looks like Michael Vick is worth atleast 4 wins alone and arguably more. Oh, and FWIW, his passing accuracy was 53%...that's better than Namath, though Namath wasn't anything to write home about other than Superbowl III. I can't argue with some of it, but it's hard to dispute the facts. When Vick played, the Falcons were a good team. When he didn't/hasn't played, they've been terrible. It's not a coincidence.
  2. f***ing 97, BOO-YA! /stuartscott and you guys all make fun of me for living in North Dakota. For shame. WE HAD TWO IN THE TOP 100 (given, none in the top 85).
  3. QUOTE (TheOcho @ Jul 19, 2008 -> 10:47 PM) Banjo-Kazooie was one badass game. "was" is inappropriate grammatical use. "was and still is" or "is still" or simply "is" are all correct and acceptable.
  4. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 17, 2008 -> 07:35 PM) Livan isn't getting $13 million this year. technically, it's $11-12 mill; secondly, he's not going to make $13 mill more this season, it'll be closer to $6 mill from this point forward; third, Seattle would pay some of that contract if it meant getting another decent prospect in return or Minnesota could simply eat it. They paid Rick Reed $15 mill between 02 and 03, so I don't see why they wouldn't pay Beltre either.
  5. it'd take one hell of a second half to bring him to class A free agency
  6. the other thing with Getz is that it just seems as though he's an Aaron Miles clone...not that there's anything wrong with Aaron Miles, it's just that he's better suited to be a backup player than a starter at 2B next year. Richar has the potential to atleast be about a league average 2Bman.
  7. It was to be expected...if you got him, you were lucky, but they didn't and it's not a huge deal.
  8. QUOTE (EvilJester99 @ Jul 18, 2008 -> 10:02 PM) A reciever I wouldn't mind the Bears looking at is Charles Rogers....kind of made of glass but the kid has tons of talent. As far as I know he isn't signed with anyone as of yet. IIRC he just got off a drug suspension as well...mary jane if memory serves. He would quickly become the best reciever on this team IMO. He played 15 games in 3 years and hasn't played since 2005. Talented or not, he's not a very good player.
  9. I don't see how Michael Vick is overrated...whenever he was hurt, the Falcons sucked, and whenever he played, the Falcons were a pretty damn good team. He was a terrible passer and pure QB, but he was a damn good player.
  10. QUOTE (chimpy2121 @ Jul 18, 2008 -> 08:34 PM) What a horrible throw from Edmonds. I thought Tejeda was meat at the plate. Edit: Maybe I'm being harsh, but I still didn't think it was that great. No, it was terrible...Jerry Owens probably would have made a better throw than that.
  11. QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Jul 17, 2008 -> 08:45 PM) Damn, I was expecting more of a reaction. to be honest, when the 4th best ERA in the AL is in your rotation, it's hard to get too worked up about finding our Liriano.
  12. seriously, there was a game that was played today

    i am drunk

f***, so hungover...had like 6 different beers last night, some gin and tonic, and a diet Coke Morgan. ouch
  15. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jul 17, 2008 -> 04:36 PM) So of those players who's the super stud the Mariners get back in exchange for their franchise player? If they're going to trade away Ichiro they better get back at least one incredibly exciting talent. (think Carlos Gomez and then some) copied the names for reference safe I'm gonna do the generic list and then my take from there..you guys disagree, and, at the very least, it creates discussion. Anyways.... Floyd - has the potential to be a #2 at this point..now, he's a #4. Consistency is a huge concern, especially with his breaking ball. If he can keep that with a 92 MPH 2-seamer, he's a #2...if he develops a change, you could find a new ace soon enough. Not enough value for the Sox to deal...SELLING LOW Egbert - struggling upon finding a new level, new catcher, and completely different ballpark. He's found a groove upon finding a new level, and I view Egbert as the next Aaron Cook or whatever good but not great (read: Kevin Brown, Brandon Webb) sinkerballer to eat 220 innings in a teams rotation within the next 10 year. Shelby - seems like a good player...ceiling is a good starter in CF, potential all-star during peak. Floor is a bust, AAAA player. People here like him though, so maybe he is a starter in CF. Richard - back end of the rotation starter...stuff good enough to compete with Buehrle, but who doesn't? If stuff of 90-93 is for real with a good breaking ball with the "pinpoint control of Buehrle" (quoted because Buehrle does not have pinpoint control, merely he's one of the few pitchers in the entire majors that I will classify as an actual pitcher...Joe Saunders would be next, but I want to have Buehrle's babies more) Anderson - poor man's Torii Hunter...gold glove defense in CF, poor average (at this point), solid power numbers, all at the major league level. Has proven such ability at the AAA level (2005), AAAA level (ST 2006, 2007, and 2008...only know 2007 and 2008 without a bit of internet research beyond type and find, so if anything finds something for 2006, be my guest). I like Anderson, and I think he'll be a damn good starting player in some major league team's uniform at some point within the next year and a half, and whether he's Torii Hunter or Mike Cameron (without the walks) it doesn't matter, because I truthfully believe he'll be in the league for 10+ years (as a starter or 4th OFer, I don't know, but that defense in CF is invaluable...if KW doesn't see the value in it before 2009, I see Kevin Towers, Walt Jocketty, or John Mozeliak taking him for "over" value, and then seeing him turn into a regular for 5-10 years. Trading Anderson for anything could be one of KW's greatest moves or one of his biggest blunders - even bigger than trading for Wells or even thinking about potentially signing Crede to an extension. Fields - well can he hit the fastball or not? If he can, hello Ryan Howard. If he can't, I hope Rob Deer is suiting up a Dodgers uniform next season. How's that for you?
  16. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jul 17, 2008 -> 02:04 PM) When I watch Danks on the mound and in interviews his demeanor comes across as being almost exactly like Buehrle to me. Except maybe a little more emotional, i.e. will throw a fit after giving up a HR. But then he will go straight after the next batter without a care in the world just like Buehrle does. How much more emotional do you get than going apes*** on a space heater?
  17. QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Jul 17, 2008 -> 07:33 AM) statistically speaking I think you have a better shot of going out with Erin Andrews than the Orioles do at leapfrogging the Rays, Yankees and BoSox. statistically speaking, of course GO ORIOLES
  18. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 17, 2008 -> 12:46 AM) I don't think they have the team to do much of anything, but statistically speaking they are far from dead. well yeah, but statistically speaking, I have a shot at going out with Erin Andrews.
  19. QUOTE (earthshiner @ Jul 17, 2008 -> 12:29 AM) Crede is not a #4 hitter so I do not have the same expectations as I do Pauly. Plus crede's defense (not so much this year) has been stellar so he gets some slack. When you throw in Pauly's 20+ double plays a year it's brutal. from '06 to present he has grounded into 55 double plays. I can't find another #4 hitter with those totals let alone another white sox. in comparison, Thome only has 24, Dye 42, AJP 38, uribe 18, and swisher 37. For his entire career Crede only has 62. maybe it's Pauly's GDPs that drive me mad and not his pop ups. yeah, his 254 homers this decade really make me think he's just absolutely terrible It's also hilarious that you are using GIDPs and popups to determine whether a player is good or not, and not cold, hard statistics. f***ing just brilliant. I mean, career .840 OPS, but OH NO, HE'S GROUNDED INTO SOME DOUBLE PLAYS. FWIW, since 2005, Albert Pujols has grounded into 70 double plays; that includes an MVP season and only 4 GIDPs this season. But yeah, he f***ing sucks.
  20. It does suck...I liked Schnur. It's hard to argue with the decision though...he's a 24 year old 1B/3B who hasn't hit a lick this season, and there are players below him who deserve a shot. It was a put up or shut up season for Schnur, and he was quiet all year. Valido is 23, has drawn rave reviews from Ozzie in the past, and plays middle infield...there are differences between the two, but I'd be quite surprised if Valido is in the organization come this time next year though too. I wish him the best of luck wherever he ends up...from everything that's been mentioned of him, he seems like a hell of a guy. Hopefully someone can help him figure it out.
  21. QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Jul 16, 2008 -> 01:48 PM) I pretty much agree he's one of the best, but Santana has been as dominant over the last five years as Pedro was from 1997-2002. Good luck finding two more dominant seasons in the history of the majors than Pedro's 1999 and 2000. You'll struggle mightily. It's Ruthian in stature...consider that Mike Sirotka tied for 3rd in the AL in ERA that year with a 3.79 ERA, and he finished more than 2 full runs behind Pedro's 1.74. The only thing that even rivals that are Maddux's 1994 and 1995. And, given everything, I'd say Pedro's were better.
  22. I would imagine that if the Sox needed a short-term middle infielder or if Uribe went down with any injury, Getz would get the callup...if it were a long-term thing to either Alexei or Cabrera, Richar would be called up. Maybe that's wrong though.
  23. I remember his first career homer. It was sweet.
  24. The Sox also have Fields, Beckham, and, to a lesser extent, anyone else playing 3B in the minor league system. Fields more towards next year, Beckham into mid 2010 and 2011, and then anybody else if they happen to stumble upon a miracle in the sandbox (in Roger Clemens' back yard).
