  1. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jul 10, 2008 -> 02:19 PM) We've also had problems from average, mediocre, and just plain bad pitchers too. If I was able to throw 70 mph with my left hand and get it within a few inches of the strike zone, and then either throw a curveball or a 60 mph changeup, I could 2-hit the Sox. But yeah it does help the Cubs a whole lot that they get to face garbage ass NL pitching. The Sox are one of the best fastball hitting teams in the entire majors. If you throw 93+, you, at the very least, probably won't shut the Sox down.
  2. QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Jul 10, 2008 -> 11:44 AM) whoa, when did all of this stuff happen? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joe_Cowley
  3. QUOTE (VAfan @ Jul 9, 2008 -> 06:27 PM) There's no way I'd give the Braves any prospects of ours that will be good major league players. First of all, you have to give good players to get good players. It's the name of the game. Secondly, if you could actually see into the future and tell me which hitters will be good and which will suck, I don't know why you are on a message board.
  4. QUOTE (knightni @ Jul 9, 2008 -> 01:24 PM) YOU THINK? yep...only reason though
  5. QUOTE (knightni @ Jul 9, 2008 -> 05:13 AM) Horror in the 7th preceded 6 solid innings of work by new Brewer Sabathia. MILWAUKEE (AP) - Six strong innings by newly acquired southpaw C.C. Sabathia helped Milwaukee defeat the Colorado Rockies 7-3 on Tuesday night. But that wasn't the main story. The 7th inning sausage races had an interloper. After finishing his 6 innings, Sabathia sat in the dugout with his arm wrapped in an icepack and stared out onto the field at Miller Park. According to shocked witnesses, when the race contestants rounded third to head come, a blue blur shot out of the dugout and tackled the Hot Dog. Screams were heard and loud crunching echoed through the half-empty park. Then, the Polish sausage went down, followed by the Bratwurst. The Chorizo barely survived with its Sombrero intact, however, the others were not as lucky. The attacker was new pitcher Sabathia, apparently not informed that the race was going to occur. After 6 innings of work, the sausages must have appeared like room service passing by the home dugout. When asked for a reply, Sabathia was heard to say, "C.C. STILL HUNGRY!" The AP reporter made a hasty exit. is fake cuz CC no longer has periods in name...ESPN tells me 500 times
  6. QUOTE (bighurt4life @ Jul 9, 2008 -> 01:09 AM) Escobar has finally started hitting after a rough start at Kannapolis. Anyone know anything about this guy, is he a legit prospect??? He is playing above his level at only 19 already in A-ball He's probably one to watch for the next year or so...dan's had his eye on him for a while now, and I like dan's background on prospects coming from the lower levels, so let's just say, yeah, let's keep an eye on him.
  7. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 8, 2008 -> 09:28 PM) Can we just delete any thread that talks about adding a starter at 1B or DH? agree Thome has been one of the best Sox hitters since June 1st and, if Konerko is healthy, he's pretty much as good as any 1Bman the Sox could acquire from anywhere anyways. I don't see a place to upgrade the lineup without an absolutely ridiculous change, and, really, the only place you can upgrade is the bench - there's a ton you can upgrade there, and it could all happen with one move. Not sure what it is, but I'm sure KW and company have their eye(s) set on a few guys as it is. He said to expect nothing major, and I don't expecting anything major at all.
  8. QUOTE (TCQ @ Jul 8, 2008 -> 04:51 PM) I am sick and tired of everyone saying o and uribe would be a great backup at 3b if we need him. He hasnt played there since 2004 where he played third for the first time in his career. Screw having him at third, someone find the insurance firm or used car dealship the Milkman is running and ask him if he wants to wear black again. Juan Uribe, even after having not played 3B since 2004, will be better than Pablo Ozuna. All he has to adjust to are screamers that are flying at him, but there are few others in the game today who have better instincts with a glove than Juan Uribe. He'll be absolutely fine and then he'll be gone at the end of the season, so hopefully nobody's aorta blows up in between now and then.
  9. QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Jul 8, 2008 -> 12:23 PM) I'm going Sunday up to Milwaukee to see CC. Can't wait... Have fun. Throw him a cheeseburger for good luck.
  10. QUOTE (Brian @ Jul 7, 2008 -> 07:21 PM) Steve Phillips lost all his credibility a few years ago when he decided to start picking the Reds. 2nd best pitching staff in baseball and we don't have one pitcher or our catcher. Anyone who makes a case for Varitek over AJ is a butthead. No, Steve Phillips lost all credibility sometime when he was still with the Mets, and then he was hired by ESPN and decided to open his mouth and let words come out. I really don't listen a word that man says, but he loves to hear himself talk.
  11. Greg, you remember when I said nothing crazier could happen than Gavin Floyd winning a Cy Young? and I've always been one of Gavin's biggest fans? Well, I'd say I was wrong in that regard, and - while he won't win it this year - if his stuff remains how it has been from the very few highlights I've seen pretty consistently throughout, he could very easily be Roy Halladay part deux. That breaking ball has to be close to an 80 when it's on the mark, and add to it a tailing fastball and perhaps a sinking fastball as well (never good enough angles to tell how much it sinks), he could quite possibly be a #2 on this staff for a few years to come. He's been the gem in the Freddy Garcia trade, and not many thought that ever had a chance of happening.

    QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jul 7, 2008 -> 04:03 AM) Dude.... yeah I think I might hate you having 4 beers and a jag bomb at the bar...$11. Getting a $100 from pulltabs after getting a $300 on Sunday - about $225 profit. Gloating to everyone at the bar about how you pulled a $100 after a $300 on Sunday and then quickly leaving - priceless.
  13. QUOTE (Felix @ Jul 9, 2008 -> 12:15 AM) I'm Alex. I know Heads is one of the other Alex's, but I don't know who the third is. no your name is Felix; sorry if Alex is on the birthcard, your name is Felix. Blake fits me...or wite. Blake is spelled right - and so is wite, for that matter - but it's different, its not common, it's easy to spell, and goddammit, if it's not sexy, it's pretty damn good looking.
  14. QUOTE (Yoda @ Jul 8, 2008 -> 05:48 PM) Even if the Cubs don't get the division they still have the Wild Card on lockdown. The NL is weak and facing an arm like Harden is not going to help the cause for the opponent. if he's ever healthy
  15. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Jul 8, 2008 -> 05:32 PM) He and Ozzie didn't get along, at all. Many believe Ozzie's quote, which was something to the extent of "we've got guys sliding into 2nd like their mother is playing there" was referring to Lee. In fact, some believe part of the reason we got so little for Lee (although it obviously worked out great in 2005 of course) was Ozzie basically told KW that he had to go. On the other hand, Aaron Rowand is one of the most beloved players in team history by both the fans and organization. well, according to some, the fact that Aaron Rowand was not on the Sox in 2006 was the reason the team lost the division. It had nothing to do with a broken down pitching staff, a mediocre bullpen, a terrible bench, or that Rob Mackowiak played a third of the team's games in CF.
  16. I don't think I am, but I really think Harden is the "throw-in," if you will, in this deal. Gaudin will stay healthy and become a middle of the rotation starter for the Cubs while Harden is a huge wildcard in the entire deal; if he's healthy for 80 more innings this season, it's a steal for the Cubs, but if he breaks down and makes 3 more starts all season - and with the Cubs history with injury prone starters, I think that's the more likely route - it's a great deal for Oakland. I'm sure Beane figures Harden is due for one or two more starts and then he's DL bound again and only god knows when he'll start again, and going to the Cubs will only hurt him further. I'd say go ahead and pencil Harden in as the next talented Cubs pitcher to have his career as a starter ruined due to injury.
  17. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Jul 8, 2008 -> 08:29 AM) Well those geniuses were spot on last year. Who could have forcasted the breakouts of Q and Danks? They weren't spot on. They picked a number out of a hat and got lucky in guessing the wins, but nobody saw the White Sox offense being among the worst in baseball last year. You can predict win totals all you want to, but unless the research backs it, I won't believe it's legitimate. Will Carroll can still tell me how my ass tastes.
  18. QUOTE (Felix @ Jul 8, 2008 -> 11:20 AM) A sandwich pick at the end of the round doesn't replace Matt LaPorta, who was the seventh overall pick. They gave up six years of a player who is going to hit the majors in a year or two for a half a year of an ace pitcher. If they had any chance of resigning CC it'd be a much better deal, but as is I'd much rather get the six years of a player than the half year of a pitcher and unless the pitcher is the one thing that hands them a World Series, I don't like the deal (especially for a small market team that needs to value young players in their first six years of major league service time more than larger markets). The Brewers didn't have room for LaPorta on the roster within the next year though, and it's doubtful they had room in 2 years. He's a 1Bman playing the outfield, and they already have that in Braun. Fielder's not going anywhere, and Corey Hart is pretty damn solid all around; dealing LaPorta is not a bad move at all and, given Milwaukee's history of drafting, the two first round picks they'll get in return along with the other two first rounders they'll almost undoubtedly receive for Sheets should basically guarantee that they'll get a prospect equal in talent to LaPorta. It's a very good move by them.
  19. losing Wellemeyer apparently hurt them too as he looks like a pretty damn solid starter for the Cards
  20. QUOTE (NorthSideSox15 @ Jul 8, 2008 -> 04:15 AM) Also glad to see Santana and Sabathia out of the AL Central. Heres a thought. Its pretty obvious that Sabathia is just a rental for Milwaukee, what if the Sox signed CC this offseason? That'd be sweet. Though I doubt we have that kind of dough. He's probably looking for 7 to 8 years, and giving any pitcher that is generally a pretty poor investment. Add to it that the Sox rotation is already among the best in the majors, and I wouldn't even call his agent.
  21. QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Jul 8, 2008 -> 02:26 AM) I honestly wish CC woulda stayed in Clev. Now instead of facing him a few times a year (or only a couple more times anyway) we potentially have to face a stud every-day player. They are getting 6 players out of this deal, and 1 is bound to be a sox killer. Just like the Santana deal, I'd much rather face an Ace pitcher a few times a year than getting destroyed by the Carlos Gomez's 15 times a year Uh no I'm glad as hell Santana and Sabathia are out of the division. Aside from a few times this season, it was an automatic loss when those guys started. Atleast position players don't have that kind of impact.
  22. FWIW, the Brewers traded 4 prospects for Sabathia and 2 prospects to be named come next June.
  23. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jul 7, 2008 -> 03:42 PM) Just remember, the toughest lefty is still in Chicago. Boone Logan
