Matt LeCroy. Let that sink in for a second. Last season, they had 3 good hitters and 2 above average hitters, and pretty much everyone else was mediocre or worse (consider that Nick Punto got 536 plate appearances...he hit .210 and hit for no power at all, meaning he was one of the worst hitters in the entire major leagues and that a guy from, say, high-A ball could have outproduced him offensively) and, as a factor of such poor offensive production, they didn't score many runs. You can't count on luck. You can generally count on fundamental baseball from fundamentally sound baseball players, but you can't count on luck or clutch. If you want "lucky" players, you'll find them on the bench. Timo Perez was a "lucky" player, and that's where he sat until his name was drawn. When he played full time in August of 2005, he was exposed and the Sox were absolutely terrible.

Kiko Calero DFA'ed...there's no way a pitcher of his caliber will pass through waivers. I'm more hoping Detroit doesn't claim him.

He's also had elbow problems this year too. That will hurt a pitcher, physically and statistically. I'd say he's fine but a perfect case as to why you shouldn't invest long-term into a pitcher.

Kalapse, this is why I love you I like Holliday, but am in complete agreement. Some of his s***ty road splits have to do with playing 30 games a year in San Fran, LA, and San Diego, but he's definitely a product of Coors.

Brian Anderson also plays gold glove defense and he's actually hit the ball fairly well this season, despite a .680 OPS. I don't worry about the offense, especially with a few other players coming around recently too.
