QUOTE(gosox41 @ Sep 13, 2007 -> 09:06 PM) Didn't Dan Evans have a lot to do with the loaded farm system that Colletti inherited?? Bob Dan Evans ---> Paul DePodesta ---> Ned Colletti I'm sure he helped, but using the term "a lot" is probably wrong. At the very least, both Evans and DePodesta restocked the Dodger farm system.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Sep 14, 2007 -> 01:06 PM) Greg or Nardi? Ha, good catch. None of the above. Meant Cooper.

QUOTE(LVSoxFan @ Sep 14, 2007 -> 03:07 PM) I salivate at the idea of A-Rod on the Sox. That would be like a shot in the arm to this franchise. Yeah, he's expensive, but he'd be worth it. No one is worth $30 mill a year, except maybe Johan Santana.
-
Not going to lie, I would like to have Uribe back as a supersub. Not at $5 mill, obviously, but he's a nice bench player.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Sep 14, 2007 -> 11:11 AM) Huh? Greg Walker said Todd Ritchie would in be in his opening day rotation in 2003 at the end of 2002. I don't take much seriously when the guy in question is 38.

QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Sep 13, 2007 -> 09:39 PM) So what is the deal here? Am I the only one who remembers when these QOTM pages would be at the very least 3 pages? Now we are lucky to get one full page. Have we all started sucking as of late? we are far too lazy -
QUOTE(greg775 @ Sep 14, 2007 -> 12:53 AM) Those standings are embarrassing and annoying. I find them embarrassing and enthralling, full of hope for the future.

QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ Sep 13, 2007 -> 11:54 PM) I still can't get over the fact that Carlos is slugging .612. 1. Alex Rodriguez .667 2. Ryan Braun .641 3. Prince Fielder .613 4. Carlos Pena .612 5. David Ortiz .599 Sure, you could see that he had 100+ walk potential and pretty good power when he was with the Tigers, but he was also hitting like .240. He's currently at .280, which is quite an accomplishment considering that he's 29 years of age with a lifetime .250 average in over 2000 ABs. I won't go so far as to call this season a fluke, but I definitely want to see if he can do it again in 2008. I think he's legit; maybe more blind hope than anything else really, but the last two late 20s lefty sluggers to develop both came from the Red Sox organization via some other organization - David Ortiz and Carlos Pena, who was signed by the Red Sox on August 17th of last year. That lineup with Pena in it would be absolutely ridiculous. It also speaks volumes about their coaching staff. At the least, I expect him to be back at about .260/.380/.520, but that'd still be a monstrous dropoff in power...perhaps even .260/.380/.560 is more realistic. I really don't know. I just know he's having an absolutely monstrous year in Tampa, and I wanted him in the offseason.

QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Sep 13, 2007 -> 10:58 PM) Great start from Ian Kennedy tonight. Votto continues to mash the ball as well. But......but.....but. I thought prospects were supposed to struggle immediately out of the gate? Oh yeah, that only applies to ours. .385 2 HR 9 RBI .429/.731/1.160 28 PAs - Josh Fields, his 2nd week in the majors this year. That's a bigger sample size than Votto. Flash, we see eye to eye on everything, but quit exaggerating. I know it's fun, but seriously, you are going to wonder why the Sox prospects can't produce right away and then compare it to a week's worth of games? Why aren't you b****ing about Mike Morse anymore? just trying to put things in perspective here, nothing more I also have hopes for a few arms within the organization. Gio should be fairly solid, albeit erratic at times next year, Egbert should be a solid 3-4, and DLS looks like a top of the rotation arm. Why some of them aren't in the majors, I'm not sure; I understand KW believes they've been mediocre, but I saw no reason why Bourgeois shouldn't be up; really, that one was the only move that irked me quite a bit. I wanted to see what Russell could do in the bullpen, but that obviously fell through.

1 team released David Ortiz. 2 teams traded for and 3 teams released Carlos Pena. Just for comparison's sake.

Depending on the price, I'd be surprised if Iguchi came back. I imagine he could get somewhere close to $5 mill a year, and that, atleast in my mind, is not the most efficient way of spending. A name you've brought up before, Mark Loretta, really makes a lot of sense for the White Sox, as he can play all around the infield, he puts the ball in play a lot and gets on base at a solid rate, and rakes against lefties (.800 OPS this year, .798 for his career). That would allow the Sox the ability to have Richar start next year, and if he struggles, the Sox have an insurance plan in Loretta and perhaps even Bourgeois. Also, reassuring our beliefs... The way I take it, one of JC and JG is gone (though I'd honestly probably prefer both), and they'll only have one less worry if Gavin pitches well. If he doesn't, it's just another hole. And it's kind of intriguing how many Japanese names the Sox may be pursuing...a shortstop and reliever along with Kosuke...and it also addresses many of the Sox needs. Japan has worked fairly well for the Sox before, so I wouldn't be the least bit surprised to see them go that route again.

QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 12, 2007 -> 11:42 PM) There will be more Boras free agents on the market this offseason than Boras first round draft picks. And I've already seen people think the Sox will be going after a few of them, notably Andruw Jones and Corey Patterson.

QUOTE(BearSox @ Sep 12, 2007 -> 11:02 PM) I will be pissed as hell if Uribe's play over the past week gives KW enough "confidence" to pick up his option... 1 week is going to give KW confidence? KW put together a horrible team, but don't mistake him as an idiot.

Disappointing would have been .800. As far as developmental standards are concerned, Ryan Sweeney had an absolutely terrible year.

QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Sep 12, 2007 -> 08:09 PM) --- "No. 2, No. 3 -- it doesn't matter much," Federer said. "It's No. 1 that matters. That's how it goes." --- "He had his chances today, many of them," Federer said. "You could sing a song about it." --- "New guys challenging me -- this is my biggest motivation out there," Federer said. "Seeing them challenging me, and then beating them in the finals." Gracious? I think you are given the right to talk some s*** after you win your 4th straight US Open in straight sets.

QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Sep 12, 2007 -> 10:08 AM) He's 22... there's plenty of time for him to become a productive player. How many years did Crede hit .230-.260 and the sox stuck with him? Sweeney's had 80 sporadic at bats in the majors... writing him off would be ridiculous. Joe Crede atleast showed some potential in AAA, putting up a .930 OPS his second year in AAA. Past rookie ball, Ryan Sweeney has cracked an .800 OPS one time, and that was last year at Charlotte. Even the infamous Brian Anderson even put up a .830 OPS at AAA before proving he absolutely blew chunks.

QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Sep 12, 2007 -> 07:49 AM) Sweeney =/ Young Not sure I'd write him up or give up on him, but I expect him to be traded. QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 12, 2007 -> 09:52 AM) I'll be shocked if he's in the organization after this offseason. agreed on both counts, and it's time to move him too. A 3rd mediocre season in AAA would bring an end to his time as being a prospect. He needs to get stronger and quicker on the inside pitch; if he doesn't, he might be a 4th outfielder.

QUOTE(Yossarian @ Sep 11, 2007 -> 09:42 PM) Alex Rodriguez, Chipper Jones, Ken Griffey Jr. and Harold Baines are on that list. So are Steve Chilcott, Ron Blomberg, Danny Goodwin (twice), David Clyde, Shawn Abner, Brien Taylor, Paul Wilson, Kris Benson, Matt Anderson, and Brian Bullington just to name a few. Statistically, there's at least as good a chance of getting a washout as there is a Griffey or a Rodriguez. Additionally, even if there is a can't miss prospect available at No 1 this year, you still need to have a smart organization that is able to find the Mark Buehrles and Mike Piazzas that are available in the later rounds. I don't see the point of gleefully hoping the Sox have the worst record this year just so they can get the first pick in the draft. It won't matter much if they don't draft and develop players better than they have in recent history. I imagine Vance is tired of posting this.

New York Times Incredible. This Andrew Cappuccino dude not only has a sugary coffee drink named after him, but he's a pretty damn good doctor too, along with Barth Green, and whoever all helped with the surgery. He will walk out of the hospital...that's absolutely remarkable. Thank God and modern medicine.

New England Patriots...cheaters?
witesoxfan replied to RibbieRubarb's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
I have no problem stealing signs if it is a person who does it; for instance, a coach steals the signs, reports the findings to the players, and everyone goes on with their life. I do have a problem with it when technology is used to help steal those signs. Thus, I have no problem with Joe Nossek totally punking someone and essentially throwing a baserunner out trying to steal from the dugout. I do have a problem with it when your Kodak is the one doing it. -
QUOTE(elrockinMT @ Sep 11, 2007 -> 06:10 PM) I don't want to see Garland traded so I vote Tejada/other. I think Miguel Tejada would fit in real well with this team. You're not getting Tejada without trading Garland.
