QUOTE(BearSox @ Jun 19, 2007 -> 02:15 AM) Well, let him walk. I don't believe in giving pitchers not of elite caliber huge deals. well, what the hell do you exactly consider a career ERA of 3.80, an ERA+ of 122, and probably the most durable pitcher in the majors? Just good? Buehrle is undoubtedly a top 30 pitcher in the majors, and that would be what I would consider elite. You damn well better give Buehrle 5 years, and if you have to, you include 2 vesting options for a 6th and 7th years. Buehrle really has found the way around making the Sox look like the good guys in this; if he leaves, the Sox are the villains.

QUOTE(daa84 @ Jun 18, 2007 -> 11:24 PM) 1.) not sure who is out there....maybe if we trade dye a guy like aybar becomes available since wood is waiting in the wings and cabreras is there now, but i doubt it ...maybe an alex gonzalez, or a brendan harris, or a pipe dream offseason scenario where KW fills dye's bat with tejada...maybe this thread wasnt exactly this right spot for my post, i guess i wasnt suggesting we get X or Y instead of juan, but simply venting my frustration saying id like to see uribe take a hike...i guess i just find it funny that royce clayton got roasted for hitting .260 with a handful of homers and SBs, and elite D, and uribe gets such a pass for doing basically the same thing, with a few more HR 2.) considering the fact that the sox have scored the fewest amount of runs in the league, by alot, and with one of our "big bats" in JD leaving next year, i feel this team has a huge offensive void to fill I recall ripping on Clayton because he provided no power and no range defensively. He had some of the surest hands in the world, no doubt, but Uribe's range is and likely always will be far superior to Clayton's.

QUOTE(GreenSox @ Jun 18, 2007 -> 06:31 PM) He's a slugger type. Hi Ks, Hi homers, low average. Is that what we really need or do Konerko and Thome fill the slugger bill? We need some .360 OBP in the worst way...another to replace Dye. Not that I'm for a move to bring Dunn in, because it will cost far too much, but I'm just curious if you've ever actually looked at Dunn's career OBP.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 18, 2007 -> 06:40 PM) It's a defensive position if you can play stellar defense at short your s***ty offensive production can be excused to a point. Given the possible replacements, I'll take Juan's stellar defense and power potential over any of them. It doesn't mean I'm particularly pleased with Juan's offensive production just that he's the best option for 2008. this sums up how I feel about Uribe perfectly In the worst case scenario, you have a player in Uribe who is probably going to put up something like .210/.250/.400/.650 with outstanding defense, with the potential for a .280/.330/.500/.830 line along with his outstanding defense, and it can go everywhere in between too. With almost every other option, you are going to get the same floor with a lower ceiling and worse defense.

QUOTE(daa84 @ Jun 18, 2007 -> 05:58 PM) well we should have a decent amount of money to toss around....i believe we still have some saved money from garcia, though i know alot of that went to increasing salaries, but take away dye buerhle and iguchi and thats 20 million.....potentially trade away a guy like contreras, and now we are talking big bucks to spend.....not to mention i pray to god we dont pick up that 5 mil option on uribe....we could have alot of money to spend, but then again we have plenty of holes to fill as well....but the money saved from the expiring contracts of those guys we will either trade or not sign will be huge to fielding the 08 team..... looks like 2b and C are unusually deep...at least for those positions Marcus Giles' option is going to be picked up, and that's almost guaranteed. Kent's could very easily be picked up. Posada and Barajas's are very likely to be picked up. Aside from those 4, who are the top, it thins out incredibly. And I almost want Uribe back, because the alternatives - Eckstein, Vizquel, and like Andy Gonzalez - are seriously that much worse all around. Until an outstanding player becomes available, I'll take my chance with Uribe every year.

QUOTE(TSZMike @ Jun 18, 2007 -> 01:04 PM) Hey I can handle that the Sox stink as bad. Thanks for the welcomes all. actually the White Sox stench is way worse this year

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 17, 2007 -> 10:24 PM) Then Garland also needs to be considered. I got to it, I just don't like to think sometimes
-
Buehrle's all-star worthy too, W-L record aside Actually, Garland probably is too for that matter
-
no, the worst case scenario for part one is that those draft picks turn into overhyped or injured prospects that fizzle out in 2010 instead of 2008, and that those who are called up suck next year.
-
QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jun 17, 2007 -> 04:41 PM) Those were arguably our 2 best hitters (sans Thome) when they went down. What are you talking about? Which is why this season is completely hopeless and Javy sucked today

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jun 16, 2007 -> 06:59 AM) Willie Bloomquist hits an inside the park homer and nothing? I'm disappointed, especially in you, Wite. meh, I had no internet access all weekend, otherwise I would have been slurping him something silly

I love it when you hold me and we just watch the stars

Here's a good not-going-to-happen question
witesoxfan replied to Vance Law's topic in Pale Hose Talk
To answer your question, imagine Jermaine Dye at SS. He's played there before. -
QUOTE(bkmoney @ Jun 15, 2007 -> 12:41 AM) well north does bring up some good points.. i can honestly say being a sox fan now sucks a lot Why? Because they're struggling? I'll take 10 years of struggling for 2005, and that could very well be what happens. I care not.

good to see Podsednik is in midseason form

QUOTE(gosox41 @ Jun 14, 2007 -> 10:45 PM) I owuld trade Thome. An aging, injury prone DH who can't hit lefties doesn't fit in with a rebuilding team. I'm sure we can get something good in return for him with his power and the fact that he comes relatively cheap in salalry for a 40HR/year hitter. Can't the Twins or use a DH? They have prospects worth trading for. Bob The Twins aren't about to send prospects to their biggest rival. And they use the DH to get players from their bench involved; in 63 games this year, Jeff Cirillo has been the player most used as a DH for them, starting in 15 games. That gives you an idea of how they spread out the DH responsibilities.

dont go to the same one the White Sox are at

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jun 14, 2007 -> 03:37 PM) How about this, if we "go for it" and burn whats left of the minors this year, they can stuff their renewal invoice that they will send me. Stubborn or not, that is just stupid business practice. You have a chance to reload for next year and you have no chance at this year. You have major problems. Not just a fixable singularity. You would need to get a few bullpen guys. Not just one. Then how to do fix the offense. How many hitters do they need. The tigers need a pitcher or 2 in pen. Thats it. They have a very deep minor league system. So they have the bullets, and the money to do it. The Indians need some help in the pen. They have a deep minor league system. Again the bullets. We need an offense and relief. Thats a lot of bullets to blow to rebuild your team in the middle of the season. You're preaching and I'm agreeing with every word you're saying. I'm just trying to imagine what KW would do and what his justification will be.
-
QUOTE(WHITESOXRANDY @ Jun 14, 2007 -> 03:21 PM) why do I have a funny feeling that this will happen ? because KW is stubborn and won't call it a season until midway through July. Or because Minnesota came back from a similar deficit a year ago. Or because Cleveland came back from an even greater deficit after the all-star break in 2005 and got to within like a half game. So, he is going to think the Sox have a shot at it. The problem is that the White Sox definitely don't have the youth that both of those teams had, and it certainly doesn't appear as though the White Sox have enough talent in their minor league system.

Miscellaneous "White Sox" Trade Notes

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jun 14, 2007 -> 01:43 PM) He was so dominant in Game 3 of the 'DS. Even the inning after he got out of the bases loaded jam, he was awesome -- I think he struck Ortiz out on three pitches. If I get a new jersey, it's probably him -- I don't want to ruin the career of yet another young player because his name is on my back. Without much research on my part, I imagine that was probably the greatest inning in White Sox history, especially given the circumstances. -
Miscellaneous "White Sox" Trade Notes
witesoxfan replied to Kalapse's topic in Sox Baseball Headquarters
El Duque provides the coolest line in the history of the world in that postseason; actually, Game 3 of the World Series. 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 4 BB, 2 K -
QUOTE(bulokis @ Jun 14, 2007 -> 12:55 PM) KW should find a way to trade Contreras(if he waived his NTC) and Vazquez. We should try to keep MB as much as possible and have Mark, Jon and Danks as our core for next year. Mark, Jon, and John as the core with Gio up struggling and a rotating door at 5. Unless the Sox are going to be completely blown up, you hang on to Vazquez.
