  1. Javier Vazquez, since August 1st of last year... 175 IP 3.91 ERA 1.15 WHIP 1.13 HR/9 9.2 K/9 2.5 BB/9 3.7 K/BB And the blowups theory is entirely bulls***. He's made 15 starts now, has an ERA of 3.95, and a QS% of below 50% (7 QS/15 GS). That suggests the exact OPPOSITE of blowing up; instead, it suggests he's been consistent about giving up 5 runs or less a game (which isn't blowing up, because even Jake Peavy will give up 5 runs a game at times), and that's exactly what he's done this season.
  2. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jun 28, 2007 -> 08:12 PM) And they're not similar pitchers at all. Garland has gotten to this point in his career with an above average fastball (this includes two-seamer, sinker, four-seamer) -- at this point he can pretty much spot that thing wherever he wants it -- whereas Broadway, I hear, has gotten by with that curveball that was (IIRC) rated one of the best in the 2005 draft. Garland is a very unique pitcher in his own right. Can anybody find a good comp for Garland (career path wise, not stuff wise)? His top comps on baseball-reference (Byrd, Lidle, El Duque) don't really do him justice. The best I could find was this Tony Cloninger who is second on Garland's "Most Similar by Age" list. But even that's not a great match, as Cloninger was consistent at being below average as a starter (ERA+ ranging from 70-90) where Garland was consistent in being average (although it looks like he's settled into a nice niche of being above average). Based solely on numbers, Brad Radke might not be bad; he had much better control early in his career though. Doug Drabek's not bad either, but again, same s***; Drabek had good control early on too. Alex Fernandez, again, isn't bad, but he also struck people out at a pretty solid rate too. Hopefully some combination of the 3; I would love 5 more very effective years out of Garland, and I think he'll provide even more than that.
  3. Just weird, they actually are playing well. Apparently, Ryan Bukvich is a god.
  4. They'll have to win like 10 of the next 11, which is not including these last 4 with the DRays. That would put them at 14 of 15 and 2 games under .500, giving them atleast a shot in hell at doing anything at all.
  5. The people saying the "choice things" are merely jealous. If it's information that can put a person in a bad spot, keep it secret.
  6. QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 26, 2007 -> 11:52 PM) Is Roland Hemond still working for the Sox? If so, he was scouting at the Dodgers/DBacks game. http://chicago.whitesox.mlb.com/cws/team/e...ond_roland.html It goes on to mention 2003 later in the article, but that's the last date mentioned. Wikipedia also says he remains in the same position within the organization too, so yeah, he is in cohorts with KW.
  7. I'm not sure there's any real need to make a move until the ASB. So, if Jesus Christ himself came down, blessed this team, and now they do win 19 of 20, the Sox can be semi-buyers and try and make a run. I R no IDIOT though, so I realize what the odds are. I am merely proposing the somewhat ridiculous plausibility of something of that extent actually happening.
  8. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 01:31 PM) You are dreaming I don't think so. I imagine Minaya would be willing to give up a ton for one of his mancrushes.
  9. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Jun 26, 2007 -> 12:58 PM) Buying low for someone who most likely will be on the DL half the time? I think I'll pass. But that it's also possible he heals up and consistently stays healthy while turning into a hell of a hitter? It's a risk/reward scenario.
  10. QUOTE(Omar Minaya @ Jun 26, 2007 -> 02:21 AM) What helps a team contend sooner - a top prospect, attitude issues or not (consentual sex with a girl who was 2 years younger than him, high fiving fans after hitting a home run, and a rap song with explicit lyrics) or 2 compensatory draft picks? the sox don't have the luxury of rebuilding? what do you see in your near future then? your team is garbage! the only thing you can do is rebuild crede = garbage iguchi = garbage uribe = garbage dye = garbage erstad = garbage podsednik = garbage thome = old konerko = old bullpen = garbage rotation = declining First and foremost, you're a tool, and you'll soon be gone so I don't mind saying it. Secondly, the Sox are going to get more for Mark Buehrle than Lastings Milledge. Talented as he may be, he's been injured, shown some poor defense in LF, been a homer, and made a rap song. Whoop dee s***, he's a gift from God. Finally, Fields is the 3Bman, Iguchi will be gone, Uribe plays good D but will be gone - though come to think of it, I haven't seen Jose Reyes make 2 outstanding plays to win a World Championship for the Mets recently, have you? - Erstad and Podsednik I agree with, Konerko's 31, Thome, old as he may be, would be leading the Mets in OPS BY 100 FREAKIN POINTS, the bullpen's terrible who cares, and, had you done any research instead of just using one word descriptions, you would have realized that the 2007 White Sox rotation has actually been worlds better then the 2006 White Sox rotation. And, quite frankly, all things considered, I'll gladly take the White Sox rotation over the Mets rotation, seeing as how the Mets have to deal with the far inferior league both talent wise and style wise - the pitcher hitting is and always has been boring. Have fun depending upon El Duque, Oliver Perez, 52 year old Glavine or however old he is, the bum shoulder of Pedro Martinez, and John Maine somewhere else.
  11. Thanks for buying beer at the game, we suck, so what? That's about all I'd say.
  12. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 25, 2007 -> 10:24 PM) I actually like to take it one step further. I'm all for abolishing the W/L record of pitchers altogether. It's a meaningless stat that does nothing but confuse people who don't know what to look for when using statistics to evaluate player performances. f*** Jerome Robertson, seriously. Um, sir, I am unsure who this Jerome Robertson is. Jeriome Robertson, perhaps? And who really spells their name - pronounced jur-ohm - like it's pronounced jare-ee-ohm? I mean, talk about a completely useless and meaningless letter in a name. Sheesh. Oh yeah, and Danks rawkZ
  13. QUOTE(briguy27 @ Jun 25, 2007 -> 11:24 PM) What are the chances we could get Humber, Milledge, or Pelfrey straight up for Jose? I'm going to say the chances aren't good. From the sounds of what Omar Minaya has said, probably better than getting one of them for Buehrle.
  14. QUOTE(spiderman @ Jun 25, 2007 -> 11:09 PM) I like Baldelli, but I think we already have a similar OF in Podsednik. Baldelli's ceiling is just a bit higher than Podsednik.
  15. struck out in the top of the 6th, guaranteed atleast one more AB in this game
  16. QUOTE(GreenSox @ Jun 25, 2007 -> 08:33 PM) It's amazing how Sox players aren't worth anything - certainly worth nothing close to what we give up for players of similar value.. He's signed for a couple of more years, he's a solid AL starter and he's worth a pile more than a B prospect. declining velocity, ridiculous inconsistency, and no real measurable for age. He could be 35 or he could be 50.
  17. QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 25, 2007 -> 07:55 PM) BTW....this trade would never happen, as Sizemore might be the biggest untouchable there is in baseball. Please keep my blood pressure down everyone, and don't suggest that this could actually happen. Sizemore looks like he could be a hall of fame type player, or at the very least, stick around for 10-15 years and put up some gaudy numbers. Of his 2 seasons in the majors, B-R has his player comparison by age to Duke Snider. That says something.
  18. I can see that Jenks would have value, but am I the only one who doesn't exactly understand why he would have that much value? He's cheap, talented, and young, yes, but Saltalamacchia and Sizemore? Guess if you could, you have to.
  19. QUOTE(rangercal @ Jun 25, 2007 -> 04:32 PM) I think history is on his side. It was also on the side of Alex Fernandez, Mark Mulder, and Jamie Navarro.
  20. QUOTE(rangercal @ Jun 25, 2007 -> 04:17 PM) Trading Buehrle is not the smart thing to do. 28 years old, not an injury risk and already at 100 wins. What prospects of ours have ever turned out better than Buehrle? What makes you guys think the sox will obtain someone even close to Buehrle? It is a good bet that Buerhle will have a longer career from this point on then any prospects the sox receive. If the sox trade the ship and get their payroll under 70 mil, who cares what they offer him? They should MATCH any offer. Buehrle at 28 is STILL a good buidling block for the future. He throws overhand at a high velocity. Thus, he's an injury risk.
  21. QUOTE(daa84 @ Jun 25, 2007 -> 01:35 PM) thats funny because vazquez was tied for 32nd in the league last year with 14 QS, only 2 behind buerhle and contreras, and 3 behind garland, and i think most people would hesitate to call a guy who has a 4.15 ERA with a 1.12 WHIP, 10th in the leauge in Ks, and is on pace to eat up 200 innings a bust...... look, chris young is a great young talent, but people blast vazquez way too much...beyond his fluky streak where he couldnt get through the 6th inning last year, hes been a pretty solid pitcher for the sox....not an ace, and not great, but hes been pretty valuable Don't you know that it was Javy Vazquez who traded Chris Young for himself though?
  22. QUOTE(hitlesswonder @ Jun 25, 2007 -> 01:25 PM) I think the Red Sox fans trade proposals are a lot more realistic than what I see here. KW likes Crisp and wants "major league" talent for Buehrle. If Theo offers Crisp and Hansen I think it's a done deal. And KW should be fired immediately. KW trades Neal Cotts and Ross Gload for his relievers. He doesn't trade Mark f***ing Buehrle.
  23. QUOTE(striker62704 @ Jun 25, 2007 -> 02:54 PM) If you look at the teams interested in Sox players, it appears as though KW is putting them up against eachother. Boston & NYY ATL & NYM LAA & SEA SD & LAD & AZ I think KW is running up the price. I think LAD and AZ have the best prospects. http://scout.scout.com/a.z?s=381&p=9&a...p;rc=4&ai=a That's generally going to happen though anyways. Hell, you can even bring up St Louis and Milwaukee too. If one team wants a guy, the divisional rival closest to them in the standings is also going to want him to just to counteract the other team from getting him. If KW can use that to his advantage, it'd be excellent.
  24. QUOTE(Omar Minaya @ Jun 25, 2007 -> 12:52 AM) it was quite a challenge getting through the registration process. I thought after slaying the dragon it would get easier, but jesus it just got harder and harder!! oh, nevermind, all I had to do was enter my e-mail address and a user name and a password. very difficult. i understand that you're not going to be very receptive to the idea of not being to get as much back for buerhle as you'd like, as that's all you have to look forward to this year. but don't worry, there's always next year, and you guys definitely have a young, solid nucleus to build around. oh... anyways, simmons says there's a 5 year grace period, so try and wait out the next 3. K, have fun finishing in 3rd place while the Buehrle's killing you in a Braves uniform.
