QUOTE(caulfield12 @ Apr 24, 2007 -> 06:47 PM) How many teams in baseball wanted Frank Thomas after the 2005 season? ONE. And Billy Beane was very reluctant and did lots of due diligence first. How many teams wanted Darin Erstad? At least two. Are you dense? I wasn't comparing them as players, I was making a point that everyone deserves the opportunity to come back from an injury....and that Erstad was a lot younger than Thomas. Eliminate 16 teams because all 30 knew he couldn't play 1B. Add to it that Thomas's value was never going to be as a reserve, while Erstad would have had that, and more interested in Erstad starts to make a whole hell of a lot more sense.

Do not know. All I know is that if those Right Guard Extreme commercials with that one girl come on, everything around me stops for 30 seconds. amazing, I am in love with that woman.

QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Apr 23, 2007 -> 10:59 PM) Travis Hafner is also good. 4 for 4, 2 walks and some runs involved 7 straight times. This time, via home run. 1-0 Injuns

QUOTE(ChWRoCk2 @ Apr 24, 2007 -> 06:22 PM) Hoping Adrian Peterson falls to my Packers but thats asking for a lot, otherwise nab Marshawn Lynch. The Bills pick before the Packers, and he's not lasting that far. -
thank you Todd Jones, I will always appreciate you throwing balls to the backstop

QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Apr 24, 2007 -> 02:07 AM) I've been asking for those "close and late" stats for weeks. What are the raw numbers, and what site is that information found? Here's Thome

QUOTE(beautox @ Apr 24, 2007 -> 01:52 AM) Lets go Javy, keep up the good work. also that was my 3000th post, that went fast. yeah it does, but damn I have enough confidence in this offense right now that I really think they'll score enough runs tomorrow, the fact that they haven't faced him be damned.

QUOTE(southsideirish @ Apr 24, 2007 -> 01:10 AM) If you think he can then you hold Anderson in a much higher regard than I do. Regardless of what Erstad does this season I think they will get a CFer next year. They LOVE Andruw Jones and I think they will pay him if he doesn't re-sign with Atlanta. They will go after him pretty good. Erstad could then play LF next year if his option is picked up. I don't want them to have to go after a CFer this year. I don't even know who would be available that I would want. I would rather have Philly continue to struggle so we could try to pry Jimmy Rollins away from them. I don't know what they would want but I would like to have him on the White Sox. Jones would be fine. And if Erstad's a corner OFer next year, I'm gonna puke. I would be perfectly content with Sweeney coming up and being mediocre in LF because he's young and he's going to be a good hitter. Erstad's not a guy you can count on 2 years from now to even be in baseball.

QUOTE(southsideirish @ Apr 24, 2007 -> 12:31 AM) Erstad is coming back from having a year off. Give him time. Yes, I am comparing a 2nd year player to a 12 year player. I was giving you the benefit of the doubt by going with this year's Erstad stats to last year's Anderson's stats. Would you rather go by Anderson's rookie year compared to Erstad's? How about any of Erstad's first 7 years? Do think Anderson could equal any of them? I don't. He can't duplicate a 74 OPS? Check out that 1999 season. I'm pretty sure Anderson could duplicate that. How about a 78 OPS+? 88 OPS+? I imagine Anderson will achieve numbers close to those at some point within the next 6 years. Part of me wants to see Erstad keep this up so the team can be successful. The other part wants him to tank hard so the Sox actually go get a CFer. I'm done arguing whose poop smells better, because quite frankly, all poop smells like s***.

QUOTE(southsideirish @ Apr 24, 2007 -> 12:11 AM) Why are you using Erstad's April for a comparison as to what he normally does when healthy? He barely played last year. Don't you think he is shaking off a little rust? Don't you think he needs a little time? Do you want to compare Anderson's 2006 April to Erstad's April? Anderson - 62 ABs, 9 runs, 10 hits, 2 doubles, 2 HRs, 6 RBI, 9 BB, 22 Ks, 2 SBs, .161 Avg,, .264 OBP, .290 SLG, .554 OPS Erstad - 64 ABs, 5 runs, 13 hits, 0 doubles, 1 HR, 5 RBI, 5 BB, 9 Ks, 4 SB, .203 Avg, .254 OBP, .250 SLG, .507 OPS Pretty equal and Erstad has 6 more games to improve on those numbers. If everything is equal why would you take a younger player over a vet? I think you are overestimating Anderson's ceiling and you think he is all-star caliber if you want him to play over a vet. I don't see it. First of all, I've been unhappy with the Erstad signing since day 1. When the Sox were even rumored to be after him, I've been pissed. So it has nothing to do with his April; all his April has done is support my claim. Secondly, you can't seriously be comparing a rookie starting in CF to a 12 year veteran, can you? Anderson sucked, but Erstad's been around the blcok a few times. And as far as I'm concerned, that argument is over. Anderson was superiorly s***ty last year; big f'ing deal. I want them both gone at this point, because Anderson's never going to get a chance to start, and Erstad hasn't had a respectable season since 2004.

QUOTE(Jordan4life_2007 @ Apr 23, 2007 -> 11:56 PM) This team could really use Trot's .235/.316/.353/.669 right about now. Pods was playing well before he got hurt. Let's wait until his average is atleast below .300 before the cries for Trot Nixon begin. it could very easily be June or July before we find out.

QUOTE(mr_genius @ Apr 23, 2007 -> 10:24 PM) do you guys still hate Konerko and want him cut from the team? of course, I hate him, why does he have to go and hit 2 homers?

QUOTE(southsideirish @ Apr 23, 2007 -> 11:05 PM) Who said he wasn't healthy? Why do you want a guy batting .111 to replace a guy that is batting .206? For what purpose? He isn't that much of an upgrade defensively, if at all, over Erstad. So while Erstad is healthy, why not play him. Erstad is a veteran who knows how to hit in certain situations, can bunt, and can move the runner over, and makes contact consistently. BA has not shown that he knows how to do anything with the bat. I really don't understand how starting BA over Erstad helps this team. I don't understand that argument at all. Why are you using Anderson's average in comparison? He's had 11 PAs this year.

Travis Hafner is also good. 4 for 4, 2 walks and some runs involved

If he can keep pitching, instead of relying solely upon his stuff, he'll be fine. The injury risk is there, but I'm not going to worry about the results.

hell of a run Mark

QUOTE(Brian @ Apr 20, 2007 -> 05:39 PM) In the movie "Major League", why did Cleveland have home field against New York for the one game playoff? It seemed NY owned them all year. I guess ESPN wasn't carrying the game. cuz it's a movie just dramatic effect. They wouldn't have been able to walk off with a win if it were in New York.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Apr 23, 2007 -> 03:12 PM) Meh, Diaz as a starter: 2-4 8.27 ERA He would have been worse. Probably, but exaggeration has never hurt anyone. QUOTE(WCSox @ Apr 23, 2007 -> 03:27 PM) Replacing Mark after a bad first half would've been a lot easier than going into a time machine in early September and removing Mark from the rotation in late July. One DL stint. That's really all that would have been necessary. Had I been close to the situation, I would have suggested it; I wasn't, so I couldn't do anything.

QUOTE(WCSox @ Apr 23, 2007 -> 02:44 PM) With the way that McCarthy was pitching in long-relief, less-than-100% Mark and Freddy were arguably better options at the time. 14 GS 81 IP 6.44 ERA 1.64 WHIP those were Buehrle's second half numbers. Josh Stewart or Felix Diaz would have pitched better.
