  1. QUOTE(South Side Fireworks Man @ May 2, 2007 -> 07:51 PM) I agree with everything except the part about bringing up Fields to play LF. It's really just me throwing a name with talent out there. Owens can run, and that's it, and I'm not about to suggest calling up Anderson until I see him put up 2-3 weeks of .800+ OPS. QUOTE(caulfield12 @ May 2, 2007 -> 07:52 PM) There are some key differences... 1) We don't have two nearly automatic wins in our rotation with the potency of Santana and Liriano 2) There are three teams for the White Sox to contend with, not two 3) Our bullpen already has more blown saves leading to losses (3) than the Twins had all last year 4) Fields hasn't played LF for more than two weeks 5) There's no obvious "villain" like Tony Batista to release in order to send a message 6) Gardenhire's a slightly better manager than Guillen 1. Liriano didn't get put into the rotation until May, and he was in the rotation for half a season. Even if he was an automatic win - which he was - that's still just 48 games the Twins won by Santana and Liriano - at the most - and their 9 losses indicate that's not quite the case. Beyond that, the Twins also had Scott Baker (16 GS, 6.37 ERA), Kyle Lohse (8 GS, 7.07 ERA), Matt Garza (9 GS, 5.76 ERA), and Carlos Silva (31 GS, 5.94 ERA). Basically, are you going to tell me that a year and a half worth's of automatic wins is worth more than a rotation that may very well put up a combined ERA of 4.00-4.25? I don't. 2. Cleveland was going to contend last year too, and a horrendous June and July knocked them out of the race. Who's to say that won't happen to Detroit or Cleveland or Minnesota this year? Or maybe it's the White Sox? Or maybe no one? You don't know what kind of race it really is going to be until about Memorial Day or Independence Day. I mean, do you expect the Yankees to be in last place all year? 3. And what happens if the offense scores 2 more runs in both of those games? Those games aren't losses. You are putting stock into a stat that doesn't mean a whole hell of a lot. Bullpens blow leads, and the White Sox offense has been pathetic to the point where they haven't been able to mount comebacks late in games. 4. I'd rather stick him out in LF than Jerry Owens or Luis Terrero, regardless of experience. 5. Darin Erstad Seriously though, why is a villain necessary? Do the Sox really need to mimic everything the Twins have ever done at any given stop in any division winning year? If firing Greg Walker isn't enough, trade someone like Mackowiak to send the message. Teams would take him, and while he's valuable, he's not a necessity for this team to succeed. 6a. Which is why my plan would never, ever, ever be able to come to fruition. 6b. Ozzie won a World Series, how dare you question him.
  2. You know, I hate to be a complete buzzkill, homer, Hawk-lover right here, but the Twins were 11-18 on May 5th of last year. They won 96 games. I'm not comparing the Twins and Sox, but one of the changes that the Twins made during last year was a change in hitting coaches early on, and they also got rid of their mediocre talent and replaced it with younger talent. In other words, get rid of Walker to light a fire, get Fields up to play LF, get Sweeney in to play RF, and get Dye into the DH spot until Thome comes back. When Thome does come back, demote one of Fields and Sweeney who is doing the worst. It's a long shot to work, but that will atleast bring some talent into the lineup rather than trotting Mackowiak, Terrero, and Ozuna out there every game.
  3. QUOTE(LVSoxFan @ May 2, 2007 -> 12:11 PM) Um, we haven't exactly been chewing it up even with Thome in the lineup so enough of the "It's because Thome's out!" arguments. No, it's not enough of it. The offense is absolutely horrid right now by and large because Thome is out. Show me one hitter in the lineup that's hitting well right now. The only two you can make a case for are Erstad, because he's been hitting about .300 over the past two weeks (but he's still at .309/.371/.680 on the year, so he hasn't been outstanding) and Iguchi, because he's leading the team in walks (other than Thome, of course) and is actually putting up a respectable OPS of .754. And, by all accounts, neither of those two are hitting well either, so no, nobody is hitting well. Thome was. It's pretty simply addition and subtraction to see what the offense is going to do once Thome is out of the lineup. I never figured I'd say that Tadahito Iguchi would have the leading OPS of any player on the active roster, but it's a true and sad fact. You put Thome back into this lineup, and it brings it to respectability. For people to criticize Thome in any extent through any of this is a friggin joke. He and Podsednik have been the only players to do anything at all positively this year, and Podsednik went on the shelf two weeks into the season.
  4. QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ May 2, 2007 -> 08:36 AM) At 6'5" your just tall, but on the same token there are people who are short, too. I just think, hey that guys pretty tall and think nothing more about. But at school when I see 6'5" guys who are big (athletically big) I think I bet he is an O-lineman. actually, for athletically big guys, I think DLine right away. For rounder, less lean guys I see OLine. Maybe that's what I get for going to a D2 (going on D1AA) school.
  5. QUOTE(klaus kinski @ May 2, 2007 -> 11:40 AM) Put Rogo back on 40 and let him hit-cant dispute the time he has spent in system and hit decently enuf to get a look. He can spell Konerko until he gets his head out of his ass and starts hitting. Rogowski is not that good of a good hitter, and being on the 40 means he's taking up room for someone who could potentially help the club at some future point in time. Right now, it's Luis Terrero (so in other words, it's still someone not helping the big league club, but he can atleast play outfield). Add to it, Rogowski's putting up a .136/.222/.227/.449 at Charlotte right now, and it would be flat out dumb to add him to the 40 man right now. And seeing those quotes, maybe Walker will finally do something and someone will get going. That would be good. This offense was mediocre when Thome was getting on base at a 55% clip, and it's horrendous otherwise.
  6. Atleast someone is starting to understand that it is a bit of a problem.
  7. QUOTE(fathom @ May 1, 2007 -> 11:59 PM) Borowski had one bad game. Outside of that, their pitching has been damn good. Sizemore hasn't even been that good outside of games vs the Sox. Perralta is showing signs of coming out of his year long hitting slump. If he does that, their offense will be top notch again. well he was mediocre last year and they scored 875 runs and they've returned essentially their entire offense, or perhaps improved it. So if Peralta is strong this year, people really need to watch out because they might score 1000 runs.
  8. maybe a pitcher just needs to throw a no-no every 6 games
  9. QUOTE(SoxFan562004 @ May 1, 2007 -> 11:42 PM) To me it's not even the lineup, it's the approach. Everyone is trying to hit a homerun. With the pitching the sox have been getting and the opportunities given to the offense, the Sox should be winning more of these games. no tonight it was the lineup. Luis Terrero, Pablo Ozuna, and Rob Mackowiak should never be in the lineup at the same time of a $100 million team.
  10. QUOTE(CWSOX45 @ May 1, 2007 -> 11:01 PM) You may think I'm overreacting, but I'm not. You have 3 VERY good competitive clubs in front of you. If we continue to hit like we are this week, we are in a deep hole with only two weeks into May. I'm not saying it's going to happen, I'm saying it COULD happen. I'd rather not take that chance. I really don't think those teams ahead of the Sox are as good as you're giving them credit for. From what I've seen of Minnesota, they look like the best team right now and have the talent to win 90-95 games if they ever get Punto out of the 2 hole or out of the lineup, whichever you prefer. Detroit's offense is really not very good and the fact that they are 6th in the MLB is smoke and mirrors because they're in the lower half of the league in AVG and OBP, and the only number aside from runs that they are in the top 10 in is doubles, suggesting that their offense has been ridiculously lucky so far. Cleveland could be very scary, but that pitching staff just doesn't seem like it will ever come together. Really, if the pitching can continue to pitch like it has over the course of the year, the only thing stopping the White Sox from winning this division is the offense. However, from how it looks, that offense may never show up without Walker coming out. So no, I really see around 95 winning this division again, and that number could be either as low as 92 or as high as 100, but I really don't see anything beyond either of those. The White Sox have the potential to do that, but they need the offense to get healthy and they need to start hitting the damn ball. I do agree that Walker needs to go, because a change absolutely must be made whether it's his fault or not.
  11. QUOTE(aboz56 @ May 1, 2007 -> 08:33 PM) Wow, Ozzie, you are a complete moron. Am I the only one who wouldn't have a problem if he quit tomorrow? but he won a world series how can you question he is alway sright?!!!1!?111?!1/1/1//!?!!1?1
  12. QUOTE(RockRaines @ May 1, 2007 -> 01:51 PM) huh? BMAC has proved so far that his only good performances were under the White Sox umbrella. We apparently developed and maintained the kid, whilst he goes to Texas and falls apart. Sean Tracey is a nothing prospect, he never was going to make it. Boone Logan was taught a sidearm delivery, jumped from A ball to the majors and has now started to get MLB hitters out. How is that poor management of a young player? Perhaps it was the league adjusting to him, but I think with a case like McCarthy, it was both Ozzie and KW. Javier Vazquez, as much of a "luxury" as he was, stunted the development of Brandon McCarthy as a starting pitcher. However, it's not as though Ozzie couldn't have gotten McCarthy 3 starts in a row in at some point last year by putting Vazquez, Garcia, or Buehrle on the DL with fatigue or even a phantom injury. The McCarthy trade itself has turned out to be fantastic, but McCarthy, when a member of the White Sox, really seemed to have his development stunted in 2006. Tracey is quite obvious, because even if he won't be a long term MLB player, I still don't see how he can't be a reliever at some point in time. He has a funny looking motion, but pitchers have had s***ty motions and succeeded in the past. Ozzie just throwing him under the bus for not hitting Kinsler or Blalock or whoever it was killed the kids confidence and any chance he had of becoming a member of the White Sox. And everyone remembers Boone against Hafner last year, but why did Ozzie leave him in for 3 innings against Detroit in that 6-2 loss? He was toast by his 3rd inning of work, and who knows what would have happened if Zumaya would have come in with a 4-0 lead and still ended up putting 3-4 men on base. Basically, I still see Ozzie being bad at developing young talent, because his track record agrees with exactly that.
  13. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ May 1, 2007 -> 05:59 PM) Trade for an OF??? Why? We got this guy thats enough pictures of Charlie Haeger from you
  14. 2k5, I'm using IE 7 and it works just fine. I'm not sure what you're problem would be...here's this site that may or may not help at all. If not, I have no idea.
  15. For Gio: Do you feel more pressure to perform knowing that you are a top prospect and that you've been traded for one of the best sluggers in the game along with a pitcher who has been a very good pitcher in the league before? For Eg: What has it been like coming out as a mid-round pick to become a very promising prospect in the White Sox organization?
  16. QUOTE(forrestg @ Apr 30, 2007 -> 11:01 PM) Some one is right.. KW if he makes a move it won't be for any upper tier player.. I would say a band aid player. Someone that is expendable an older fourth outfielder bats right hits lefties ok.. I don't know how well he fields. My guess, the 34 year old Brady Clark... Brady Clark already got traded and has a role on the Dodgers. He would have been too perfect for the White Sox, the exact same thing as Eduardo Perez. I still think a guy the Sox need to look out for is Chone Figgins. The Angels seem like they may very well have enough depth to trade for him (with 3B, 2B, LF, and CF all covered), and I could see them taking a flier on a guy like Anderson, even with quite a few in the outfield right now. It would take more than Anderson to get him, but I believe a deal is reachable. Perhaps someone like Broadway or Logan along with Anderson may be enough (though that seems like a really mediocre deal at best for the Angels...not sure what they really need right now). However, that may be more of an offseason move than it is a midseason move, because it is really hard for the teams to match up right at the moment. There have been quite a few other good suggestions too in Emil Brown and Jacque Jones. However, one other name I'd be curious about is Kevin Mench. He seems to be getting quite a bit of playing time in Milwaukee right now, but I know going into the season he was pissed as hell about being put into a platoon role. If he still were - and it really doesn't look like it at all - he'd be interesting, but I'd really question his availability at the moment.
  17. QUOTE(elrockinMT @ Apr 30, 2007 -> 10:18 PM) I wish we had Joe Borchard right now. He can play all three OF spots and has some power. I am glad we got Thornton for him originally, but I wish we could have traded someone else for him Borchard wouldn't have passed through waivers, which is what he would have needed to do last March. That's pretty easy to tell seeing as how he got picked up by the Marlins when the M's did try and pass him through waivers a week and a half or so into the season.
  18. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Apr 30, 2007 -> 11:49 PM) But I think the Sox really have to look at how they handle young players close to the majors, after seeing what has happened with Brian Anderson, and with his attitude. and Brandon McCarthy and Sean Tracey and to some extent Boone Logan. Danks he's handled very well so far, but I'm not sure any manager would have a problem handling John Danks, because the kid has an outstanding head on his shoulders and he is easily the exception over the rule. There's also Bobby Jenks, but again, most players don't come up and throw a 100 MPH fastball with a curveball that goes 86 and drops 3 feet. I want to see how Ozzie handles Sweeney, Fields, Gio, and Logan/Floyd/Haeger/Broadway in the very near future. Those are 4-5 players (I consider that foursome as one or two, because I don't see any way that all 4 make it with the Sox) are all likely to play significant roles within the organization in the next 2 years, and I want to see how he handles them.
  19. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Apr 30, 2007 -> 09:04 PM) Onion Rings suck. JMO. oh yeah, well what if onion rings think you suck? I dunno, I've always liked Culver's onion rings. Those are pretty much straight money.
  20. QUOTE(bschmaranz @ Apr 30, 2007 -> 08:51 PM) Would anyone consider Corey Patterson a decent option? MLBTradeRumors.com had this to say: I know douche bag is his agent, but if would could get him for cheap I wouldn't mind a one-year rental. It's probably not enough of an upgrade, really, unless it comes at the cost of like Phillips. I like Patterson more than Erstad, and he's a much more athletic player, but in the end, he's about the same offensive player - more power and speed, but a less disciplined hitter. He is GG defensively, and I don't feel like I'm reaching saying that at all, but there's just not enough of an upgrade to do it. Add to it that the Orioles really only have Payton for CF if they were to trade him and it just doesn't really add up for both teams.

QUOTE(shipps @ Apr 30, 2007 -> 05:18 PM) I loved Borat when I seen it at the theatre but there is absolutely no comedic value seeing it for a second time.I was kinda surprised that I didnt laugh even once ,and I wanted too because I loved this movie and I wanted to have a little bit of that enjoyment again but there was nothing. I laughed the second time, but not nearly as much. When you know what to expect, it gets really boring. However, the deleted scenes were pretty good. If you liked the movie, Sexydrownwatch is a must.
  22. QUOTE(tealeafreaderii @ Apr 30, 2007 -> 06:35 PM) Does he really need to state the reason why? They are on the DL getting treated and rested. Injuries do occasionally heal. when have Podsednik's injuries fully healed? They've healed to the point where he can play, but he hasn't been able to steal bases well since he went down with a hamstring in 2005. Injuries do heal, but when the injury is likely a direct result from the player's tendencies in how they play, and they effect major muscle groups that the player will need to use the entire year, it gets scary as hell. A strained rib cage for Thome could linger all year and leave him with 25-30 homer power and a groin could limit Podsednik's speed and ability to swing the bat for the entire year. Or maybe they heal perfectly and both perform at 100% the rest of the year. I know which scenario I find more likely, but I don't know anything yet and I'm not sure anyone on here does.
  23. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Apr 30, 2007 -> 06:09 PM) Fixed. It's a matter of perspective, but that second round pick is hardly has any more value than what they started with. It was like trading a dollar bill for 4 quarters and a penny. I think it's a little more. Buffalo got two 3rds and a 7th for McGahee, so that would mean the Bears got one higher pick in the 2nd, two 3rds and a 5th for Jones. So maybe a dollar bill for 4 quarters and a dime.
  24. QUOTE(mu mu @ Apr 30, 2007 -> 11:22 AM) Jeez, I'm an idiot, how did I not see that? Thanks for pointing it out. I quit smoking today maybe that's having an effect on my mental clarity. Hopefully you're staying strong. It's not easy. Best of luck.
