  1. QUOTE (qwerty @ Jul 1, 2009 -> 06:40 PM) There have only been twenty players since 1965, when the draft began, that went straight from being drafted to the major leagues and never looking back. Believe it or not there is a very valid reason. Frank thomas had 240 at-bats in 1989 in the minors, 240 very mediocore at-bats. Those 240 at-bats>>> 70 or less at-bats he may have received in spring training. Those four months were far from meaningless. The sox wanted to assure themselves what exactly they had on their hands, and it couldn't have worked out any better. The sox went the same route with beckham, and it couldn't have worked out any better. Were you one of the many that wanted viciedo to start on the major league team? I would not doubt it. Sometimes people just complain for the sake of complaining, it's f***ing weird. Well, you OBVIOUSLY don't understand talent when you see it. Frank was clearly a talent in 1990 and so is Beckham. To even bring in Viciedo into this conversation is silly.
  2. I've been a hardcore Sox fan since 1985 and I can tell you that I have never been so excited about a rookie since Frank Thomas. This guy has something special with the quick and compact stroke of his and the ball just seems to pop off his bat.
  3. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 1, 2009 -> 06:23 PM) We're batting him 8th because our #2 and 3 hitters are on fire. Beckham's spot in the order is such a non-issue right now. So answer the other question then, which is much more important...why does anyone buy into this BS theory of "protecting" a players confidence???? If you are good, you are GOOD. Period! And BTW, wouldn't you rather him bat at least around 6 instead of 8? We need to get him some AB's!
  4. As everyone knows, Hawk has been critical of McDowell's article regarding Beckham's development, but this whole thing makes me think...why the F&CK do we disregard PERFORMANCE in spring training and in the regular season from rookies??? I am sorry, but Beckham is the real deal and should have been on the roster from day 1. I realize there are issues with arbitration etc, but still. Nonsense. Let's put the best team on the field. Secondly, why are we batting our hottest hitter at 8 or 9??? Are we "protecting" him?? This is complete nonsense. For those of you old enough to remember, we "protected" the Big Hurt back in 1990 by having him spend a meaningless 4 months in the minors even though he hit .400 in spring training and tore the cover off the ball. MAKES NO SENSE to me. It's a joke and someone should challenge this mentality of "not wanting to destroy someone's confidence" etc. Too bad. Gordon is stronger than you think, there is NO FREAKING NEED to protect him. Joke. Bat him at #2 or 3. Ok, so I welcome comments. And yes, I had a few drinks tonight!
  5. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 18, 2009 -> 04:08 PM) Here's my philosophy: with a 4 run game heading into the 8th, if we pitch Thornton for an inning and Jenks for an inning, I'll tip my cap to the opposition if they can score 4 runs before we get 6 outs. It's SO SIMPLE but true. Amazing that Ozzie doesn't see this. I dont care what you say, these games a more important, this is bragging rights. What a joke Ozzie is with his decisions, I think a 3rd grader could've managed this one better
  6. This loss is entirely on Ozzie. Why he didn't pull Linebrink in the 8th is absolutely inexcusable. INEXCUSABLE!
  7. Playing first base? I know it's been a year or two since he's played there but can he not bend over for a ground ball any longer??? We may need the help with PK questionable
  8. Guys, correct me if I am wrong, but isn't Beckham's true value in the fact that he is guy who has some decent power at the middle infield position? I don't know about him being an everyday 3rd baseman, even if it's just for half of the year. Yes, Fields has sucked, but is Dayan going to be any better on Offense or Defense? I think we need to demote Getz, keep Fields, and start Beckham everyday at 2B. If we want to take a flier, then dump Fields and bring up Dayan but most likely he'll be worse than Josh for the remainder of the year.
  9. What's most amazing to me in watching him grow is last year it seemed that he basically threw the SAME PITCH with the same velocity every time, no matter what. Now he's mixing everything up, and it's fun to watch. I hope I continue to eat crow on him as well....
  10. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ May 30, 2009 -> 01:58 AM) This quote bothers me: wtf does that mean, one more start? I assume he's talking about AFTER he starts one of the double header games. This makes it sound like Richard is still not a sure thing in the rotation. I wonder if they worry about having three lefties. They shouldn't. After another great start from CR there is no way Jose replaces him in the rotation. I think he'll be: 1) Bartolo insurance 2) Spot starter when needed for double headers etc 3) Mop up guy in pen
  11. All I saw is he's retroactive from the 26th....but nothing more. Is it expected he will be back after 15 days or not?!?!?!?!?!!?!?!
  12. QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ May 18, 2009 -> 12:27 PM) Richmond has a 92 MPH fast ball and 86 MPH change up? I am not watching the game but that doesn't lend itself to much success....after today that is. No it's an 86 MPH cutter that is pretty nasty to righties actually
  13. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 13, 2009 -> 12:33 PM) KW said he would steal 40 bases this season, the only thing he's stealing is $402,000. LOL
  14. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 13, 2009 -> 12:30 PM) Come on JD, bail MB out for once. Did JD get tossed there??
  15. QUOTE (Kalapse @ May 13, 2009 -> 12:16 PM) Lillibridge has been significantly worse than Andy Gonzalez. He's our worst player since Esteban Beltre. I dont remember him- what team was he on?
  16. Lillibridge is the worst player we've had since Andy Gonzalez
  17. QUOTE (Kalapse @ May 13, 2009 -> 12:07 PM) Faking the throw cost him, by the time he hit the ground he wasn't in a good position to throw to first because of the fake. I am not so sure that was a fake as much as was that him worrying he didn't have a proper grip on the ball and he reloaded? No one can be sure but I think it's a bit assumptive to say he was faking that throw. Certainly there is no reason to "fake" a throw there and I'd hope he wouldn't ever make that mental mistake in the field...
  18. Lillibridge is a little gay boy f** I hope to see him and Owens off this team ASAP
  19. He's looking so good at the plate right now. Proof in point that this forum knows better than Ozzie with us wanting Getz to leadoff and BA in center before the season started...
  20. QUOTE (Felix @ Apr 25, 2009 -> 05:19 PM) Jerry Owens is hilariously bad. Did anyone else get the feeling that Hawk bit his tongue after Jerry Owens' popout? Pathetic at bat
  21. http://www.weather.com/outlook/travel/busi...topnav_business I am not a weatherman but it looks like we should be delayed a bit but should get it in...be sure to watch the map in motion by hitting the play button...
  22. QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Apr 14, 2009 -> 06:36 AM) Im going to go out on a limb here and say this is the first day of Brians long career as a fulltime starter. I just have this feeling he is going to take it this time. Are we sure he's in the lineup and it's NOT Jerry Owens??? I haven't seen a lineup posted anywhere
  23. Pretty funny Paulie had to slide into second base on that one...anyone else its a stand up double
  24. They should have shown the double to bring in Ozuna, they should have shown the great plays at 3B in game 1 of the WS, the bouncer up the middle that scored Rowand to untie the clinching game in the ALCS... I was glad, however, they showed the home run against Cleveland. I really think if we lost that game we wouldn't have even made it to the playoffs... Maybe the second most clutch player in White Sox history behind Harold Baines?
