Dewayne Wise Named Full-time Starting CF/Leadoff hitter
JohnCangelosi replied to Kalapse's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (TheBigHurt @ Mar 30, 2009 -> 05:17 PM) So Rowand wasn't decent? And before Pods, the last one I can THINK of was maybe Tim Raines. Other than that I can't think of a single person. You gotta give me some props....John Cangelosi -
Every Year I Plan on Following Spring Training ... but

What about Beckham in the leadoff spot? Does he have the patience and eye to be one (for this year at least)? I think he'd be a really nice player in the 2 hole... -

Wise leading off will be a disaster. But what lineup would you like to see given the players we have? -
Who would you rather see at the plate?

QUOTE (smalls2598 @ Mar 17, 2009 -> 10:04 AM) I know the following story involved a video game, but i thought fellow Sox fans would love it. Last week, i was playing MLB 09 The Show. Best of 7 Rivalry, I was the Sox and my friend (Rob) the Cubs. We were in game 6, and i had the series lead 3-2. Bottom of the 9th inning, 2 outs, Cubs leading 5-4. With 2 guys on, i had Jerry Owens up, and he was facing Marmol. I told Rob, "well this should be good, we're going to Game 7", when, wouldn't you know it, Owens pulls a Joe Carter, and hits a walk off, series ending homer. Highly unrealistic in real life, yet still highly entertaining. Classic! -
Does anyone remember Frank Thomas' spring training in 1990? He tore the cover off the ball but we sent him down saying "he wasn't ready" and we dont want to "hurt his confidence" etc etc. When he was called up he proved the last few months of the year he was ready from the get go. This is nonsense. If he can hit in ST, he can do it in the bigs and what I like about this kid is the fact that he seems really confident out there....we'll see how the next 3 weeks go, it will be interesting...

QUOTE (Sox It To Em @ Mar 1, 2009 -> 04:26 PM) Bechkham goes yard. Short and quick! -
I can see us signing him to a very similar deal we did a few years ago in 2011, assuming he performs at the same level. He'll only be 33 when this contract is up, correct? I don't see him retiring.

Freddy Garcia speculation (Closed - Garcia Signs W/Mets)
JohnCangelosi replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I just don't see the point of adding him into the mix if its going to be a ML contract now that we signed Colon, especially with Freddy topping out at 82 on the gun. With Contreras apparently back into the mix it appears as if we have enough candidates for the 4&5 spots going into this year. -
Why the hell do we want this guy???? Really? He's not that good. God I hope this report is wrong. He's basically the same age as JD without the same production....I cannot believe this

Clayton Richard ready to fight for rotation spot
JohnCangelosi replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Everyone who wanted Javy outta here, now what??? ......basically the 5th starter situation 5 yrs ago except it's our 4 & 5 spot now Enjoy... I'm HOPING KW has something up his sleeve to fill these spots because I can guarantee we're not doing anything in 2009 in with the rotation as it stands right now (hoping to fill it with Poreda and Richard)...we should just look to 2010 if we're going to take long shots on Richard, Poreda, etc Guys, really, what am I missing here??? Unless Contreras is ready for a huge year in April, which I don't believe will be the case.... -
QUOTE (daa84 @ Dec 2, 2008 -> 05:18 PM) in boone maybe....but at worst vazquez is a guy who gives you 200 IP and 30 starts a year at league average ERA, with potential to exceed league average ERA...he may not be a #1 starter...but vazquez is a solid 3-4 starter and its gonna be tough to find that out of one of our young pitchers Agreed. Unless we're able to luck out and get a few young guys to step up this year it's going to be a LONG YEAR out of our 4th and 5th starters. And I am sure at that point people would be begging to have Javy back. I trust KW has some things in mind to shore up those spots, however, I hope it's not within the organization as I don't see us pulling another Danks/Floyd combo like we did last year. Let it be known I do trust Kenny though- he's got my respect so I am hoping he can pull off the same magic...

"Don't Trade Vazquez" official thread
JohnCangelosi replied to Paint it Black's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I can't even believe this is a conversation now. There is NO WAY you trade this guy unless you want to have TWO DANNY WRIGHT 5th starter situations again like we did a few years ago. I don't like relying on Javy for any big games but he's not a bad #4 and certainly a decent (yet expensive #5). The good news is our 2 & 3 starters (if you want to make MB our #1) are both on the cheap right now... We're going to need to take a flyer with someone for the #5 spot until Jose is ready (and God only knows when that will be) so I feel much better having him there unless we can get someone who can give us 200 IP and 12-14 wins in that spot....which will be extremely difficult -
Everyone wants to get rid of Javy it seems but NO ONE has come up with a plan to fill the now TWO OPEN spots in the rotation with the exception of taking a flyer on Richard who hasn't done dick and sign a FA who would cost the same and probably put up worse numbers than Javy...I understand the frustration with the guy that's why you make him A FIFTH f***ING STARTER!!! He's not a bad #5 guys Mercy
-
So we'll trade Javy and have 3 SP's next year and have two open spots to fill in the rotation. Hmmmm....is there anyone else thinking we just need to find a FOURTH STARTER and make Javy the Fifth??????It reminds me of all the bad mouthing Garland took prior to the 05 season, people wanting him out....Guillen had to calm people down by telling him "he's the fifth starter!" prior to the season...this way Javy doesnt start in the playoffs and you can move the rotation around a bit in September to give him the Royals instead of the Twins. I don't trust Javy in big games or in the playoffs but good luck finding another guy who can get you 12-14 wins and 200 + IP in the FA market guys...have we forgotten how friggin hard it is to find a guy like that???? What did A.J. Burnett go for in the open market??? 5 yrs and $55 Million? Trading him for a position player almost guarantees we're forced to sign someone to a $10+M long term deal unless we want to take a one year flyer on a washed up SP and either option only makes us MORE UNSTABLE in the starting staff. I'd rather us just go and get a #4, really. Put Javy in the 5 spot and just leave it at that. I don't get where everyone thinks its EASY to find someone who can get 12-14 wins with 200 IP and 200 K's on the market....

QUOTE (StatManDu @ Oct 26, 2008 -> 04:08 PM) 2005: WORLD CHAMPIONS. The greatest season in the 106-year history of the franchise known as the Chicago American Ballclub ended with a 1-0 win over the Astros at Minute Maid Park in Houston. The triumph gave the White Sox a sweep of the World Series and their first championship since 1917. It was a beautiful game -- tense, tight and low scoring probably because the teams has played past 1 a.m. earlier in the day in finishing off the White Sox Game 3 triumph. When a charging Juan Uribe threw out Orlando Palmeiro for the game’s final out, it set off a wild but respectful celebration in Houston and throughout Sox-land. The Sox scored the game’s only run in the eighth when pinch-hitter Willie Harris led off with a single, took second on a Scott Podsednik bunt, advanced to third on a Carl Everett ground out and scored when Jermaine Dye pushed a single through to center field. The Astros threatened in the ninth but Uribe made an unbelievable diving catch into the stands and then assisted on the final out to hand the Sox the crown. Freddy Garcia got the victory, Bobby Jenks earned the save and Dye was named World Series MVP. In a beautiful chunk of symmetry, the Sox began the season with a 1-0 win, began the second half with a 1-0 win and ended their season with a 1-0 win. Long live the kings! AMEN!

QUOTE (Reddy @ Sep 29, 2008 -> 05:41 PM) the key is: if he STARTS to implode. so like, 2 guys on in the 4th/5th/whatever, you put in richard. Amazing that we've already won this ballgame and tomorrow's as well LOL. But in the case we do, I think Javy assuming he has his normal rest which I think has contributed to his s***ty starts by pitching on 3 days rest -
