QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Nov 23, 2009 -> 06:31 PM) Here's a list of most of the bad contracts in baseball. I left off bad deals that teams obviously aren't going to want to trade, like Torii Hunter, Jeter, etc. as well as bad deals where the trading team has already eaten a large portion of salary, making the deal no longer a bad one (like Lugo for example). Of what is here, is there anything that makes sense for the Sox with Linebrink and Paulie? Is there anything that makes sense for another team? Some of these deals are better than others, but feel free to mix and match because they all suck. I wouldn't mind dealing Liney for Bradley, as was sugggested earlier, as I think Ozzie can turn the piece of sh*t around and the guy has exceptional talent. I know he's a bad seed and all, but that's what they said about Dennis Rodman as well. When he came to the Bulls, he didn't mess around because he knew MJ was the boss. I believe Ozzie is of the same ilk...

QUOTE (iamshack @ Nov 22, 2009 -> 08:04 AM) This is unacceptable. I assume you're serious? I live in Europe, where people are more relaxed and not paranoid about the little things in life, so I guess the culture here is rubbing off on me.

I can't see us paying much more than $5M for this position this year unless we make some trades and free up some room under our "cap", which leads me to believe we're going to try to force the hand of the available DH's out there who don't get offers and low ball em as they won't have other options at that point. I think this is why KW said we won't address this position most likely until the end of the offseason. If no one offers Chop Sui anything, perhaps we can come at him with a 1 or 2 yr deal that is acceptable to us and we can snag him up. Thoughts?
-
Isn't PK a 5 and 10 guy? Or are we just assuming he'll accept the trade since he lives out west anyways and was close to signing with them in the 2005 offseason? I guess there is nothing wrong with going to the Angels squad, as they have a better chance than us next year on paper you'd have to say...

Sox acquire Mark Teahen, $$$ for Getz/Fields
JohnCangelosi replied to pmcochr's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Nov 5, 2009 -> 10:22 AM) I really liked Chris Getz. Is Mark Teahen the answer in RF field though? Doesnt seem like he has the power numbers to be a significant factor at that position. Nor does he have the power numbers for 3B either. I wasn't a fan of Getz or Fields anyways so to me it's not a big deal, but we're going to need to do more than this offensively to be a factor next year. -
Sun-Times' Cowley: If I Were Ken Williams...
JohnCangelosi replied to LVSoxFan's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (dmbjeff @ Oct 9, 2009 -> 03:48 PM) cowley is a f***ing idiot....yeah lets keep jenks and have even more money tied up. we cannot go and get a bat without trading a big contract first. jenks is most likely to be dealt. no one will trade for rios,kw wont trade peavy, buehrle isnt going anywhere and PK probably won't be dealt either at $12 million. that leaves jenks as the one to go. As much as I don't want to see Bobby to go, I think you're right as we're maxed for payroll right now. I don't think we get much in return but several prospects for Jenks most likely, so this leaves a HUGE void to fill in our bullpen. But, we do need another bat in the middle of the lineup and a leadoff hitter assuming we don't resign Pods. Will be an interesting offseason... -
QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 4, 2009 -> 02:54 PM) It's definitely the worst day of the year I feel. End of baseball. At least under KW and Oz we've had meaningful baseball for the majority of most of the seasons. Good point- it's always a sad day indeed. Only good news coming out of this season is it appears we have 5 solid starters going into next year. With Thome and Dye most likely gone we're going to need to put some more power into this lineup I believe, although it will be nice to get the slow guys outta there from clogging up the bases. 2010 LF Pods SS Beckham RF Quentin 1B Konerko DH ??? C AJ CF Rios 2B Ramirez 3B Viciedo Pods won't be back if he gets a ridiculous offer for 2-3 yrs. But my guess is he WILL get a 2 yr offer, which may lead us to looking at other options. I KNOW Beckham is going to play 3B next year, but to me its a joke as we could have so much offensive production from SS & 2B from him and A Ram, we'd have 180 RBIs and 35 HR's from the middle infield. That's pretty damn good. But no one thinks about that. Booooooo

Who else sees this as a charitable lineup by Ozzie? Ramon Castro? Jermaine Dye instead of PK? Doesn't AJ own Verlander too? I guess Ozzie wanted to see AJ finish at .300 -
Despite that inning right there, Pena scares me. Big. I don't look forward to him on the mound next year in the 7th or 8th Inning with the lead for sure
-
Not Ozzie's best effort in putting him back out there for the 8th IMO
-
I sense by the way Hawk talks and eludes to when talking about Rios, I think he has given up on him ;-)
-
get scared? He's making $9.7M next year. He's looked absolutely horrible, almost as if he has no chance out there. Tell me I am being an alarmist and he's going to come back to form next year...

According to Sun Times Kotsay wants to be back
JohnCangelosi replied to DaveBrown85's topic in Pale Hose Talk
What amazes me is most of you think that Pods will be back next year? My guess is he gets a 2 yr offer which I am not sure we match given his injury history and he's not getting any younger...thoughts? -

QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 28, 2009 -> 09:49 PM) Beckham is really starting to look like a good fielder at third. He should be there for a long time. Can Lexi improve enough to be next to him at ss for the next 10 years? Does anyone else agree with me that long term we need Beckham playing SS or 2B? He appears to be a .300 25 hr and 100 RBI type guy and we believe he can play the middle infield. Having those types of numbers at that position gives us a substantial advantage over our competition. Putting him at 3B is fine, and he is getting much better there defensively, but having him at 3B negates some of his abilities, however. I hear this rarely discussed on this site but for me this is a HUGE thing. Having him at SS or 2B gives us flexibility and talent that very few teams have in the middle infield, especially with Alexei there as well. -
9/25 Detroit Tigers @ Chicago White Sox
JohnCangelosi replied to CaliSoxFanViaSWside's topic in 2009 Season in Review
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 25, 2009 -> 04:47 PM) Really? The Tigers go with a rotation of Verlander, Jackson, insert pitcher here (Porcello or Robertson or washburn) followed by Verlander and Jackson again and they don't have a prayer? Supposedly the Yankees series gets the extra offday, so they can do that on normal rest and still fire 2 aces at the Yankees in 4 games, with the odd game being in Detroit. Sabathia is still the Yankees top guy but he's struggled in the playoffs before, Burnett's been his usual inconsistent self, and then Pettitte's had some injury concerns lately. The Tigers could easily knock off the Yankees if Verlander shows up. He pitched 14 innings against the Yankees this year and gave up 2 runs. Jackson pitched 13 innings against them and gave up 2 runs. I still don't give them a shot, really. The Tigers don't even have a #3 starter, and yes, their 1&2 are studs but the best they will get is a split in NY and then they will be drummed in DET -

JohnCangelosi replied to CaliSoxFanViaSWside's topic in 2009 Season in Review
I'd like to see some fire out of the boys tonight. We still gotta compete and I wouldn't mind sticking it to the Tigers. The bottom line is no team in this division has a PRAYER against the Yankees so I guess its not the worst thing in the world we didn't win. We just didnt have the team D, speed, or offense to make it happen this year. -
I like what I see from Peavy, despite the home runs. It's the first time I've seen him pitch and it just appears as if his control is a bit off. But he can move it in with the cutter/slider on the lefties and run the fastball in on the righties...both with late movement...and his sinker will do him well in the Cell also. Real exciting having him here the next few years.
