1) CHW 2) DET -7 3) MIN -10 4) CLE -16 5) KC -25 I think the loss of Nathan coupled with the absence of lost fly balls by the opposition in the ceiling and baltimore chop hits in the roller dome really hurt the Twins this year.

We're counting on big bounce back years from TCQ, Rios, and maybe even Jones for us to score enough runs this year so I understand their thinking- we cannot afford any let down years out of almost anyone to score enough runs this year. Although, maybe KW solves that problem at some point in June...

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 25, 2010 -> 08:36 PM) I have yet to hear a single person knock D2's play in CF. The thing against him is always the big hole in his swing. His defense gets mad raves. Sounds a lot like a guy known as BA :-P

My bold prediction: Gordon Beckham will hit above .300 with 30+ HR's this year :-)

QUOTE (chisoxfan09 @ Mar 25, 2010 -> 03:20 PM) Teahen got another hit. He is showing slow signs of improvement. Hope he keeps it up. He probably will go 4 for 4 on opening day- ST means nothing but the stroke is looking better for sure

QUOTE (ScottyDo @ Mar 24, 2010 -> 05:24 PM) Hasn't this literally been the story every season? I'm not saying his fastball is what it once was, but I honestly think the story on Jenks during every single spring training he's been with this team was "where's his velocity?" Every ST we talk about this, yes

Jones in CF again. Should we look into this? Is it just me or will we see Jones in CF, Rios in RF, and Pierre in LF with Q at DH a lot this summer?

Oney Resigns; Tweets cause Sox soap opera

QUOTE (fathom @ Mar 19, 2010 -> 06:18 PM) Does this mean Brian Anderson can come back to the organization? He was 5 for 5 today, hit for the cycle and had 7 RBI's....so....maybe? ;-) -
Andruw Jones spring training mean anything?

QUOTE (iamshack @ Mar 18, 2010 -> 01:16 AM) He's honestly the best or one of the best on any message board I have ever seen. And I don't even want to believe all his damn facts. But he brings it with every post. And I have to grudgingly admit he is almost always correct. That being said, I think Andruw Jones and Marky Teahan are going to have great years for us this year. He's the poster of the year several years running, so he is good, no doubt, but don't you also get a small feeling that he believes he is ALWAYS right, no questions asked and no further debates??? :-). Gotta appreciate the cockiness I guess... -

QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Mar 16, 2010 -> 03:40 PM) I want to like De Aza but he is too slappy for me. Reminds me of Wise. You must love Pierre then ;-) -
Didn't you see the SoxTalk.com awards from last year? :-)

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Mar 10, 2010 -> 07:21 PM) So they should start looking for another catcher because Saltalamacchia is already 25 and "injured" and Teagarden isn't ML ready despite the fact that he's 26 and split catching duties with Salty throughout last season? Salty is coming off surgery to his right shoulder but he's not currently "injured". Their catchers would be Salty against righties (hoping he can hit them as well as he did in '08) and Teagarden against lefties (hoping he can hit them as well as he did in '09 only with a much larger sample size and his minor league splits would suggest he should be able to do so). That's basically good enough or at least not bad enough to warrant giving up talented young major league ready players for a stop gap. They're not going to trade young talent for yet another young catching prospect when they already have 2 at the major league level. You wanna trade Beckham for Lyle Overbay? Because that's what you're asking of the Rangers when you request Justin f***ing smoke for AJ Pierzynski. Welcome to the forum Knackattack. Don't stress, Kalapse is our poster of the year, and he owns everyone on this forum, including you on this one. :-)

The 2010 DH Slot -- What it is, what it isn't
JohnCangelosi replied to CyAcosta41's topic in Pale Hose Talk
If Vizquel gets ONE start at DH it's one too many -
Can this guy play the field any longer? He's only 33 and has dropped 25 lbs, so I assume he can still move out there? Maybe we can DH Pierre more often and have 3 legit OF's out there...but it seems as if no one believes he's capable anymore...

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Mar 1, 2010 -> 06:56 PM) 4 years + a team option This is Kenny's first go 'round with a player like this. No other player he's had during his tenure compares to Beckham. I know JR's philosphy generally speaking is it's not so much as the $ in bad contracts as much as the YEARS. I've heard him say this many times about bad contracts they signed. Although with how bright Beckhams future looks you wonder if they'll make an exception this time around. Seems like the type of guy you want to build your team around for the next 10 years.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Feb 28, 2010 -> 03:47 PM) That was my thought. I'm actually excited we have him now. Let's hope it translates into a great season, but no doubt he looks great

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Feb 25, 2010 -> 04:28 PM) Assuming the roster stays the same and Thornton's option is picked up the Sox are going to owe about $90M to 14 players in 2011. (Peavy, Buehrle, Danks, Floyd, Jenks, Thornton, Pena, Linebrink, Quentin, Pierre, Teahen, Rios, Viciedo, Ramirez) Which basically means we've almost hit the ceiling right there alone, maybe 10-15M more tops

No mention of Warren "The Deacon" Newsome?
-
I live in Europe and am thinking about flying back for this. He truly was, for a few years, one of the best hitters of all time IMO. He would RARELY swing at a pitch outside the strike zone (except against Jeff Nelson) and would seemingly hit every ball hard. Such a joy to watch for most of the 90's...

Dye says "crowded outfield" prolonged his slump
JohnCangelosi replied to winninguglyin83's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I am going to go out on a limb here and say that JD has a good year. Not sure why, I just feel it. Of course, he'll need to find a job first ;-) -
Speaking of Damon, what are his options now?? I mean, we are 2 weeks away from ST and still nothing. I wonder if this means we can maybe get away with a 1 yr 4M deal for him? Who knows, I dont know how many other suitors he has right now?

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jan 10, 2010 -> 08:12 PM) Lillibridge is a god awful baseball player who has absolutely no business being near a MLB roster. Period. This. End of story.

QUOTE (DaveBrown85 @ Jan 8, 2010 -> 09:30 PM) does pods wife go with him to KC? I hope not because she stops by my crib a few times a week to service me :-P

Podsednik denied a report that he and agent Ryan Gleichowski had turned off the White Sox by pushing for a two-year contract. "There was no demand on a two-year deal. Our phone lines were open and ready to communicate for anything. I don't know who started that," he said. "I was open to working on a one-year deal as much as a two-year from the very beginning." Full article here: http://chicago.whitesox.mlb.com/news/artic...sp&c_id=mlb Does anyone else find this interesting? I think most people would have been MORE than happy to signing Scotty Pods to the contract that KC signed him to before of course picking up Juan Pierre. I am thinking now the talk of Pods and his agent demanding a multi-year deal was nonsense and in fact it was a smoke screen the White Sox put out there because they wanted Juan Pierre to begin with. It would make sense as well that perhaps KW had some type of understanding they would get JP in the offseason from LA as a payback for the gratuitous Thome trade and never had any real intentions of resigning Pods, but just gave that impression that they were considering the option since he tends to be a fan favorite. On the other side, Pods may have over estimated the demand for his services in November and simply lowered them considerably once he realized ST is coming in less than 8 weeks and it was time to get a job. Thoughts?

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 15, 2009 -> 12:59 PM) If Beckham hits 25 homers next year he is either juicing or hitting .250. Well with 550 AB's (which he may get in the 2 hole) he would have had 21 HR's according to last years #'s so I don't think its that much a stretch actually
