  1. Dealing with minor leg issue (can just imagine Fathom's reaction to that description) May 19, 2022 Moncada felt discomfort in his leg during Thursday's game against the Royals, Scott Merkin of MLB.com reports. ANALYSIS Moncada didn't exit the game and went 1-for-5 with two strikeouts. Merkin added that Moncada was moving around fine after the game, and manager Tony La Russa also downplayed the issue. Given that context, the issue doesn't appear likely to cost Moncada time, but it will be worth confirming that he is in the lineup to start the White Sox weekend series against the Yankees. https://www.rotowire.com/baseball/player.php?id=13652
  2. That looks like something they brought over from an abandoned amusement park, lol. We can also all rest pretty assured of the fact that Yolbert and/or Romy Gonzalez will never be future MLB stars...but it speaks to the desperation of the fanbase to will them into everyday playing time at the next level, the back-up QB syndrome. And at least this week gave everyone (not so into prospect buzz) Davis Martin to track much more carefully, along with Mena and Burke.
  3. Yes, I spent 2 1/2 hours in the middle of the night to watch the Sox lose because that's somehow more enjoyable. Reread the game thread again until the time it was 3-1/4-1. I don't think hardly ANYONE in the entire thread was overly optimistic. If it was, who was that person who remained confident throughout the entire game they were going to win? I even argued with Parkman that Luis Robert was not going to have a "ceiling" of 25 homers despite missing lots of time the first month. Fathom has been cursing more this season than any year in memory. That really sticks out to me. When he gets fed up. Most of the mods have already completely turned on TLR, it's not just Balta, Ray Ray and a few others, it's EVERYONE. We are all watching the same blatant mistakes and not second guessing in hindsight. I'm not going to go as far as saying that hoping for them to lose is a logical stance, because it doesn't guarantee anything more than JR and Hahn doubling down in their stubbornness. The only times I've desired losses before was for draft pick positioning when they were clearly out of the playoffs (not that we took advantage of those picks other than Anderson and Rodon) and when I was hoping that Robin Ventura would mercifully be put out his misery one of those non competitive seasons when a long long losing streak might have meant a change in the manager's spot, even though it would have just been a cosmetic change. In fact, Ventura deserves a ton of credit for "taking one for the team" and shielding Hahn, JR and KW from criticism over all those barren years. It's hard to be too critical of him when he was/is one of your favorite players in Sox history and definitely didn't want to be manager, everyone knew that no matter how hard KW wanted to convince everyone that if war broke out Ventura would be one of the generals he would choose to lead us into battle.
  4. You're anti-American if you don't like Top Gun, lol. Fwiw, I get it. You don't have four of the main actors from the first film that wasn't all that great to begin with but had one of the best soundtracks and "cool aerial" cinematography for that time period. Tom Cruise is forever polarizing. And Val Kilmer has always had a reputation as being one of Hollywood's greatest jerks.
  5. I think all of us will still take the 4-11 crash landing at the end of 2012 when it seemed like we might actually be able to overtake the Tigers in a season where we used 13 rookie pitchers and played defense so much better than the last season of Ozzie/Buehrle.
  6. TLR 4D-CHESS GENIUS! That's why we're out playing our expected W/L record by 3 games, lol. The old Phil Rogers go-to that quickly falls apart for anyone who has followed this team on a daily basis. Minnesota 21-17 (actual 22-16) Cleveland 18-17 (actual 16-19) see, TLR is far better than Terry Francona! White Sox 16-22 (actual 19-19) We really should be thankful we're not a full 5 games back at this point (wait for the weekend!) and leaking even more oil. And that 2012 story line of the White Sox playing the role of the Tigers and then advancing to the World Series will be all we hear for the remainder of the season. I think EVERYONE would take a 4-0 sweep in the World Series over NOT making the post-season...although that was pretty much the beginning of the end for the Tigers' window as they gave way to the Royals and Indians.
  7. How can anyone be against a trailer with that iconic Kenny Loggins song in it? That's essential soundtrack for those growing up in the 80's, along with Flashdance, Purple Rain and the Rocky movies.
  8. Except Riley took most of his best players/recruits with him... The other side of this is schools like Iowa and Iowa State...because of the limits of the Iowa economy, they just don't have the corporations to put together these meaningful NIL deals so they're behind the 8 ball, besides the fact that Iowa has never been a recruiting hot bed and most of the best players always went to UNC or Kansas with a few notable exceptions. Iowa is losing out on transfer "big men" over and over again because the just can't compete on the NIL front, at least not yet. I mean, Casey's General Store, Hy-Vee stores and the I-80 truck stop in Walcott is just not exactly corporate America. At least IU has Indianapolis and just ND and Purdue to compete with. Iowa and Iowa State also have Creighton on their western border in a major media conference. https://theathletic.com/news/football-transfers-ncaa-immediate-eligibility-nil/RO3UUaCZUjix/ Not that Iowa was going to win the NCAA championship if they kept Joe Weiskamp, CJ Frederick and Jack Nunge, but they would have at least made the Sweet 16 or Elite 8 for the first time since the 1998 season. Now we might even have Kris Murray go to the NBA, although that's highly unlikely...like the example above and the fact that he should be "the man" next year with his twin brother leaving for NBA riches. The fact of the matter is that the only thing Iowa has to offer is playing time in one the the top conferences, an uptempo offense (spotty defense) and numerous opportunities to play on national television in major media markets. Despite having Luka Garza and Murray nearly win back to back national PoY awards, they're still unable to attract McDonald's All-Americans (ironically, Kenyon Murray was one of the last in program history and they were so fortunate nobody discovered his kids until it was too late to steer them away)...but when you always rely on developing guys outside the Top 100 recruiting rankings for basketball and football, well, it is what it is.
  9. Anderson and Robert are really going to have to carry the team on their backs if Abreu/Grandal can't, and Moncada's typical Moncada with occasional glimmers of brilliance interspersed with days of frustrating at-bats. Relying on Jimenez to regain his offensive form AND not get hurt in the process doesn't seem like the smartest bet in the world. That said, pleasantly surprised with the bullpen...well, at least until Hendriks' hire wire act channeled 2020 Colome minus the high velocity and emotional outbursts.
  10. It was so long I made it from 2 a.m. through about 4:30 a.m., after Engel got thrown out following the 5-4 lead. Woke up seeing the Robert homer and video highlights about two hours later.
  11. Unfortunately, Josh Harrison is now nearing the Mendoza Line.
  12. Almost universally positive reviews. Everything Everywhere All At The Same Time is definitely the best film of the year so far, though.
  13. Coles really in a groove now. OPS up to 928, double, RS RBI.
  14. Tyler Naquin to replace Sheets in 6-8 weeks seems a foregone conclusion. He does rake against his former team the Guardians and a professional platoon guy who won't hurt you in the outfield either.
  15. Unless he accepted the reassignment. But then some players might prefer to get their full contract paid off right away and to latch on with a rebuilding team that can give him a spot in the rotation to keep from having to use prospects before they are fully ready. Like Derek Holland who we overpaid during the rebuild.
  16. Let's first see Cueto and how he fares against better teams. KC averages only 2.5 runs per game at home.
  17. At one point recently RH hitters against Garrett this season were 2/21 and LH hitters just 1/12 but walking the world.
  18. They need to do a Squid Games machine gun thing to keep runners on base for Anderson. Just don't move. At all.
  19. Vaughn the burner was not the man for delayed break from third.
  20. Harrison now up to .184. Might mean back to him and Leury in same lineup in NYC.
  21. Almost scared to put Grandal in because need catching defense late. TLR finally had a move go his way. But now we have the Grandal Defense Watch from here on out.
