  1. He would have had other baseball jobs because of largely (to that point) carrying off the rebuild pretty well through the disappointing loss to the A's in the post season. At least he got them back to the playoffs finally, after a seemingly endless 12 years of purgatory.
  2. Veterans peaked before the young core could fully catch up and coalesce as a team together. Simplistic way of looking at it, but mostly accurate. This FEELS from a fan standpoint a lot like the 2016 Royals, to be honest. Injuries, too many players declining at the same time, too much talent not to hang in there. The only difference is the Indians had a great team that year. This year actually looks like it will have more of a 2008 ending to it due to how bad the Central is overall. Survival of the fittest.
  3. I’m going to venture it’s a lot closer to 4-5 losses than just a couple. There’s no way Yost was nearly this bad in KC…there’s just not. And the proof was/is two World Series teams that weren’t among the most talented on the starting pitching side. Those teams executed by making consistent contact, played fundamentally sound baseball on both sides, stellar defense, lockdown bullpen and absolutely ran you out of games late with their speed. We don’t do any of those things well with a HoF manager.
  4. 6 starts. Theoretically 24-26 left. Pace right now is 24, fwiw. If he had pitched 4 more innings so far and also was to take the full 32 starts, he’d be right there on the doorstep.
  5. Shhhhhhhhhh..…nobody will believe the Twins will be anywhere close to 8-10 games over .500 at that point. Before all the injuries, I said +14 games over .500. 10-6 the next 16 has them at +8. That’s conservative based on the competition. I actually think Buxton alone if he doesn’t hurt himself running into walls could outdo some of those entire teams offensively, especially the Tigers and A’s.
  6. Yet Nestor Molina was the opposite of a diamond in the rough for the Sox…
  7. Well, the turning allegiance to the Cubs lasted all of three weeks...
  8. We will all know by the end of June/early July if he's toast or not...they're going to have to play Vaughn/Sheets at first and Eloy in left if that's still the case.
  9. That one run luck by Minnesota and with Pagan clinging to leads by his fingernails likely won't hold up the entire season like it did for the Mariners last year. And/but I still think it's unlikely we make a major move in the division race until June.
  10. Keuchel on current pace for 137 IP. 24 starts remaining x 6 IP=144 26 innings pitched in 6 starts=4.5 IP per start That would get him to 170. Extremely unlikely but not completely out of the realm of possibility with VV and Cueto the other two options and needing to rest Kopech. Can't believe they would go with a six man rotation for Kopech but stranger things have happened.
  11. Pretty sure that's already 7 or 8 blown saves by the team...very close to last in the majors except for Boston and right up there with the Pirates for most fielding errors in the majors. Incredibly fortunate to be .500 at this juncture.
  12. They have drafted a TON of relievers. The problem is most of them haven't panned out...at least until this season. Still the bulk of the bulk of late inning responsibility falls to imported talent.
  13. No way he goes to Kelly in the 6th. To TLR he is forever postseason 8th inning stud Joe Kelly and nothing else.
  14. Well, I definitely wouldn't bet against the Sox. Not sure how confident I would be betting huge on them, though. The Indians' offense was bound to come back down to earth. Likely comes down to pitching to win it...and injuries/attrition. That said Moncada playing like a star would help offset the aging issues with Abreu and Grandal.
  15. The magic from that night can only be recaptured once every decade or so.
  16. They're obviously going to struggle without Buxton and Correa, just like the White Sox don't win tonight without Luis Robert.
  17. I'm not sure what he actually did well. Should have had McGuire in for Grandal. Trusting Hendriks?...but it really came down to Kiner Falefa's base running blunder.
  18. Sox and Twins both two games behind the Twins now. +4 to E.
  19. A game where LaRussa can't use Kelly or Hendriks but still win would be nice.
  20. Cuban Connection. Slider or splitter. Let the hottest Sox hitters beat them. That will be second guessed by Yankees' fans looking to load bases for slumping countryman Abreu.
  21. Chapman isn't automatic in these tie situations. If only Vaughn could face him again.
  22. Well 5-6. But point taken. Little Leaguers need to be trained to catch or be left handed relievers.
