  1. We can’t ever actually win a trade without some sort of laborious retrospective rationalization. Seriously, what were they going to spend any money for the following 2-3 seasons? Would love to know what was Plan B had he actually signed with the Cards for more money. And it still doesn’t change the fact we still missed on all our evaluations on the players coming over from NYY. Had we hit on that trade, we wouldn’t be so desperate for a RFer right now that we currently can’t afford to pay because of the shoddy roster construction.
  2. That might be our only WS at this rate, the AAA one. But pitching is pretty much a wasteland, again.
  3. Finnegan, Cornelius Randolph, Haseley…at least three washed out former 1st rounders now with Sox (Rutherford another). Probably missing one or two. That sounds like the old familiar version of the Sox at least.
  4. Maybe, if Severino returns to his pre-injury form. Big if.
  5. Mets, Brewers and Blue Jays according to their rankings. LAD depends on Bauer resolution to an extent. Even had Stros and Giants ahead of LA, fwiw.
  6. If the players weren’t so aggressive and all eight had voted to approve the final deal which was an incremental improvement at best, would the union members feel satisfied that they’d really fought to the fullest extent? A big aspect was always going to be about perception.
  7. The odds of going a full five at this point in ST are probably less than 10%.
  8. Manaea is starting today against LAD…won’t be pretty with regular Dodgers’ lineup and FB velo at 88-91.
  9. Or Giolito and Berrios…or Bieber, etc. TA7 has to be looking with a bit of envy across the SS position at Francisco Lindor’s deal, Correa, Seager, Tatis, etc.
  10. But if you lowered that to $90k vs $120k per year? $9 million vs. $12 million in lifetime earnings? That’s not greedy, right?
  11. Didn't even have to look at the author. Isn't greed good and what makes the world go round in capitalistic enterprises? How much is too much? Who gets to decide? It's okay for big market teams to offer those contracts, but not for the White Sox? https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/nfl-insider-notes-deshaun-watsons-game-changing-deal-and-its-ramifications-hottest-topic-at-owners-meetings/ How guaranteed big money contracts for CBS will ruin small market franchises that can't compete with hundreds of millions set aside for these deals like the Watson one.
  12. There's not. It's basically Lopez, Velasquez and Lambert. Certainly no pitchers one would consider halfway reliable unless you believe in Reynaldo's second half resurgence after his eye procedure.
  13. Hit: Open stance with a wide base, knees bent. Keeps his hands high and behind his head. Some pre-pitch body sway and bat movement. Moderate leg kick as he steps into the pitch. Wide base at impact. Average or better bat speed. Inconsistent bat path that tends to be upward; gets the ball in the air to the pull-side on pitches middle-to-up in the zone. Takes some big cuts. Has a good eye on pitches out of the zone, but struggles with offspeed stuff down. Shows good bat-to-ball skills and fights off pitches in the upper half of the zone, although he is often behind on velocity. Grade: 45 https://www.prospectslive.com/scoutingreports/gavin-sheets

  15. He's their annointed 2023 closer, apparently. Still think this Kimbrel thing bleeds over into the regular season and how Kimbrel looks then and what type of start the Rays get off to.
  16. Watched CODA last night, very solid film. If you don't believe it should have won Best Film, variety.com's Owen Gleiberman has a really insightful article on it up now. The one thing NOBODY is talking about because of Smith/Rock is how Regina Hall was basically throwing herself at "handsome young studs" as a now single woman, almost groping people on stage. Were that a male actor, well, he would already be cancelled out of existence. I guess it is what it is.

  18. That's why they would prefer to dump him before Meadows...along with age, salary and fall off in offensive production. "The Rays seem to have ample bullpen depth, and with rosters expanding from 26 to 28 for the first month, they could carry 15 or even 16 pitchers. Fairbanks’ absence could open a spot for Jason Adam, Chris Mazza or Ryan Thompson, or another lefty, to make the roster." Just keep reloading. TampaBay.com/sports
  19. For Meadows or Kiermaier? Still have Kittredge, Beeks, Nick Anderson...
  20. Well, except where the budget limit has been reached or we're waiting on Godot/Kimbrel to be dealt first. Right now, Leury and/or Harrison might be the reason we don't have another spare $3-4 million on one more pitcher...or signing both Kelly and Graveman, etc. I guess TLR/Hahn are waiting to comb over DFA's the final 10 days of spring training and take fliers on at least 2 more starters for Charlotte.
  21. Location, getting ahead in counts, differentiating the speed 10+ MPH on his secondary pitches...there are a million different angles. For whatever reason, he seem to struggle most with runners on base or in scoring position and two outs. So a lot of it's psychological, and/or gaining experience.
