  1. So we're right back to the 2005 team building approach, albeit with a younger core?
  2. At least they're trying. Pittsburgh and Oakland should be folded.
  3. Why are we seemingly obsessed with not going over the Grandal numbers? How can we be $20-30 million off the rest of baseball in our valuations?
  4. Shocker. Marlins miss on Castellanos, settle for Soler. Padres jilted again. Added Avisail Garcia as well.
  5. Ryan Sweeney and Wilson Betemit crushed spring, too. Didn't mean much.
  6. Sheets is your primary DH now...would they be crazy enough to make Burger or Collins that?
  7. Apparently everyone but the White Sox front office watched Vaughn and especially Sheets in RF.
  8. Even if the argument is absorbing salary or relying on a massive jump from the farm system to do something at the TDL, it's not easier to pull off than making a move now. And you are more than likely mortgaging your future contention window.
  9. QO to Rodon, get pick back at least Buy out Kimbrel Conforto to RF Rest of the money goes to a starter and one reliever...along with a veteran defense-first backup catcher. No way you have Harrison and Leury both rostered. Any SoxTalk poster could have come up with that simplistic plan.
  10. There's your starter. That guy is not an inch taller than Madrigal, if we are being generous.
  11. We always discover amazingly/confoundingly inefficient ways to spend "a few extra million bucks" anyway.
  12. Supposedly, the Mets were willing to go to $110-120. Not sure how accurate that is.
  13. So they can reallocate that $11 million to what quality of starter? Getting rid of Keuchel from the roster, too? That doesn't even leave room for another Leury/reliever of the day move.
  14. In the meantime, all their options are evaporating by the hour while they sweat it out.
  15. "As I wrote in December, White Sox GM Rick Hahn spoke openly about trading Kimbrel, saying, “We’ve had conversations with other clubs and have a sense of what is potentially available.” Hahn added, “It’s easy to make the assessment that if you put him back in the closer’s role, it’s what he’s accustomed to and he’s more likely to have success.” I don’t find that to be a particularly reliable assessment: put Kimbrel back in a closer role, and he’ll be good again. That didn’t prove true for the Cubs in 2019 or 2020. I think the White Sox would very much like to trade Kimbrel, but they may have overestimated his popularity in the market at his salary. Perhaps they’ll need to kick in a few million or take a decent-sized contract back to make it more palatable. I’m not sure if an intra-division trade could be worked out, but the Royals have spoken of trying to upgrade their bullpen. The Rays, Rangers, Blue Jays, Marlins, Mets, and Phillies could make some sense, but only if the money can be worked out and if the White Sox finds a team that actually believes Kimbrel will succeed in ’22." Repost from earlier in thread...
  16. Well, except for Wheeler and Machado...
  17. That's going to be little consolation five years from now if/when they don't make it and they passed on Suzuki and Conforto. Having too much talent is a good problem to have, generally. Well, except for the never-ending Kimbrel saga.
  18. Minor league obscure fill ins got torched...
  19. Until Kimbrel gets hurt. Then what? About $9-10 million back in insurance? Waiting on an injury to a contender provides better odds than hoping your own guy doesn't get hurt, but it's not a non-zero risk in an abbreviated ST with a guy nearing his mid 30s. It's riverboat gambling that hearkens back to the days of KW.
  20. With Jansen off the market, he and Lou Trivino are the two highest profile relievers remaining on the trade market. Should now move quickly if there are legit offers before they risk him getting hurt.
  21. Colome was a great one for them! Most of their money going to Rogers and Duffey with Alex C. and their other high leverage guy Hansel Robles traded to BOS. Not quite the days of Guardado, Nathan, Hawkins and JC Romero. Patrick Mahomes' father, haha. Those 2002~2008 Twins' teams had some of the best bullpens (and infield defense) ever...at least until the 2013-2015 Royals.
  22. Nice Abreu save of what would have been a TA7 error...dug it out. Six up and six down for Finnegan, no idea about velocity but seems to be throwing mostly FB's. Kyle Crick next guy in...didn't he come over from Pittsburgh? SFG? Greg's favorite Terry Francona back for CLE...tenth season there. Had amazing stretch of sixteen consecutive seasons over .500 snapped even though he wasn't actually in the dugout. Nine up, nine down. White Sox one hit from Leury.
  23. Or they could have simply gotten rid of Kimbrel. In the end, they'd have that money to allocate towards another starter even if Rodon (highly likely as it played out with SFG) declined the QO. And that previous argument means they would never have been able to start Crochet with Kopech unless they were willing to send him to the minors...
  24. Padres and Cubs, haha. Note I chose to listen to the pretty boring Sox feed with whoever's partnering with DJ. He just pronounced Wofford wrong. Trayce Thompson and Nomar Mazara starting for SD in the outfield. Didn't realize Trayce was still hanging in there.
  25. Finnegan could take Crochet's place and push Garrett down to AA/AAA for a first half starting role. Yeah, highly unlikely. 1-2-3 top of the 1st inning for Finnegan. Seems Eloy made the last out a bit of an adventure.
