5/28 - Cubs @ Sox
How could anyone possibly think he could play RF when he was acquired and say it with a straight face? How could the scouts sign off on that one?

5/28 - Cubs @ Sox
This entire organization needs a reboot. Strength/conditioning and trainers. The front office. New manager and coaching staff minus Katz…and he might end up following Giolito out the door.

5/28 - Cubs @ Sox
But then the Guardians have the easiest June. Someone put up respective strength of schedules and they were pretty comparable…especially when you consider how the Twins make the Sox schedule look harder and vice-versa. The biggest question is can the Sox do more than play .500 against them after getting swept in the first meeting? You’re not going to get another stretch where they lose 3/4 to the Tigers and Royals at home…but that KC offense is so much more dangerous than ours with Benintendi, Witt Jr., and Merrifield raking and Perez coming back.

This White Sox team is indefensible at this point.
Naquin and Drury. What’s that going to cost the Sox? Because there’s unlikely to be another headline-grabbing move unless it’s a change of scenery deal for Moncada or Jimenez, and both of those seem highly unlikely.

Do the White Sox Make the Playoffs?
Need to see the active rosters at the end of the day on August 3rd. And managers as well.

TLR 2022 Thread
Jesus, hard to even pick up what he’s saying. I would make a Top Gun joke, but Val Kilmer has gone through hell and back with his voice.

Witt Jr. really tearing the cover off the ball recently but still might not be enough.

**Movies that we Watch** Thread
https://www.mlb.com/twins/tickets/specials/top-gun When I watched this one I thought they referred to Iran but realized I must have misheard…and then is there coastline with mountains/snow that close to the water…so don’t think so. Should have used China, haha, like Spider-Man with the Statue of Liberty featured, it was never going to be shown here in a million years the way things are trending politically. https://taskandpurpose.com/entertainment/top-gun-enemy-aircraft/ “Based on the timing the of the script-writing process and Top Gun’s actual release, the go-to assumption is that the MiG-28 is a Soviet fighter. However, the markings on the fictional MiG-28 aren’t Soviet. The MiG-28 in the film has a single red star surrounded by a yellow circle on their tail as their only marking, while Soviet aircraft traditionally had a white trim to their red star (just to cover my bases, the North Korean Air Force uses a blue trim). However, one country does, in fact, use yellow trim on their red star insignia: China. That the enemy was never officially established in Proser's early draft or Jack Epps Jr's final script. This was likely intentional: villainous governments in the movies are routinelyleftvague as to not piss off their real-world counterparts, with the exception of North Korea, possibly because North Korea doesn’t have a strong market for movies or video games. Indeed, the video game “Homeland” and the Red Dawn rebootfilm, both of which involve a North Korean invasion of the U.S., made course corrections in production to keep from angering the Chinese government.”

Dallas Keuchel DFA
Can make same argument about keeping Kimbrel and then the disastrous (non-RFer, non LHB) acquisition of Pollock.
-
Dallas Keuchel DFA
I meant Jerry Reinsdorf…but surely Keuchel will burn some bridges on his way out the door. We might get some insight on what’s wrong with the team (besides him) depending on how candid he actually is.

Dallas Keuchel DFA
Seems we end up saying that about 1/4th our FA acquisitions. Although this case is quite different from Dunn, Keppinger, Herrera, Alonso, Holland, Eaton and LaRoche to name a few. Dunn at least was a nice guy and contributed a lot in 2012.

Dallas Keuchel DFA
You know he’s not going to point the finger at the dugout/TLR.

Dallas Keuchel DFA
Keep hearing mid June. Probably three unless they have to start VV again and he gets absolutely torched.

Dallas Keuchel DFA
Pretty sure they have to come up with that money more quickly than the regular salary schedule…someone could confirm.

Hahn had no choice but to take this one on the chin…and hope Sox fans blame Wheeler’s wife/fiance more, lol.

5/27 Games
Yes, and surely Pollock’s isn’t much higher. And maybe they have no choice if the asking price for Drury is too much. But hard to expect either of those two guys to come up and hit the ground running with so much development time lost. That’s especially the case for Colas next year. We run the risk of being stuck with another year of AJ, and unfortunately it’s not Pierzynski.

5/27 Games
All of the Central teams are between 18th to 26th in the attendance standings. The Padres are fourth at nearly 37,000. Multiply 16,000 x 21-22 games plus parking souvenirs concessions. Not insignificant. The crazy thing is Hahn could have owned Chicago, but we now have a dysfunctional mess. Whereas the Padres absolutely imploded going 22 games under .500 to end the season as everyone knows…but their fans were still hyped about the future and believed in the vision that was laid out, which starts with having massive talent depth on the starting pitching front. And they’re STILL likely a WC team because of the Dodgers’ dynasty. But the fans are still excited and optimistic. They also have talent left in their farm system (to add yet another outfielder) and Tatis/Abrams in reserve. (Also, Twins’ fans are a bit like 2012 Sox fans. They don’t 100% yet believe. Bad weather, of course, but 18,120 fans per game for a first place team, and up by 5 games approaching early June, is crazy unless you are TB or Oakland.)

5/27 Games
Going by how many top prospects have struggled this season, it’s no sure thing Sanchez or Sosa could hold their own or that TLR would play them…although the counterargument is that we did have Yermin and Sheets getting major playing time as rookies in a competitive season (without Vaughn’s pedigree).
- Moncada + Grandal

5/28 - Cubs @ Sox
Pretty strange western Nebraska and western South Dakota would be more Rockies/West Coast than Cubs or Royals/Sox/Twins fans…but I suppose anything is possible.

Carlos Rodon... What could the Sox gotten in trade?
Every pitcher goes through it for 2-3 starts...just the timing has been thrown off by the abbreviated spring training schedule.

**Movies that we Watch** Thread
It was much better than the original…except the soundtrack. It was fan service like saying goodbye to Luke and Leia, but seamlessly fit into the narrative. With Glenn Powell as Hangman/Iceman (he lost the headline role to Teller and was heartbroken for days but actually stood out more in the end…the story of how Cruise insisted fitting a part in for him is pretty darned cool), you pretty much have the exact same script from 1986 except for an anonymous/ubiquitous enemy and modern era jet fighters… By the way, each F-18 cost $11 million to rent and Cruise, despite his pilot’s license, never was allowed to touch the controls. And all the Top Gun cadets/actors had to go through G force training and numerous sorties to get the real feel of flying to make things as realistic as possible.

When did we take the wrong turn?
Great, Jay and Alonso would still be on the team. Pretty crazy to think about Machado, Tatis and Moncada across the infield…although everyone has pretty much discounted the possibility of Robert still signing and being the final member of that group. Or Harper, Tatis, Moncada and Robert. The way things are looking now, we ended up one star short unless Moncada can somehow turn things around. I mean, the Padres managed to fit two $300 million guys, Hosmer, Myers, and a pitching staff of 5 former All-Star pitchers (including Rogers) and Gore/Abrams onto the same roster. Why couldn’t the Sox do at least half that?
-
When did we take the wrong turn?
How would Tatis have helped this year? The strange thing is that SD has played quite well without him (Machado Top 3 MVP season)...so it will be interesting to see which position they put him at when he finally returns in late June/early July. The most logical one to sit is an outfielder like Grisham.

Carlos Rodon... What could the Sox gotten in trade?
Rodon was at 94-97. Likely to be a dreaded dead arm period these last few starts. The Reds have actually been scoring a lot of runs the last 2-3 weeks, especially at Great American Ballpark. We will see where he is at the end of July. His FIP and FIP+ were well under 3 coming into that game. 1.5 fWAR x $8.5 means he has already been worth nearly $13 million. Will Pollock VV Harrison Leury Grandal/McGuire and Keuchel even equal 1.5 fWAR for the entire 2022 season?
