  1. And other teams are not going to value our A ball and below starters highly enough (based mostly on raw potential) to make trading them logical. He was the bridge between Lambert/Stiever and everyone else below…and most teams have to be skeptical about Lambert sticking as a starter.
  2. They’re in a tough spot. If they deal Bieber, Ramirez and Karinchak, they lose Francona in all likelihood. He’s too well-respected around the game to not have a number of contenders coming after him, even moreso than Maddon imo.
  3. Veteran RH bullpen help is a lot more important than RF right now…Sheets and Eaton is fine for a platoon. Sure, Gallo or Marte or whatever would have been great, but it’s not critical as kong as we get back Robert and Grandal.
  4. Probably not the momentum the Yankees imagined from all the Gallo talk…TB already torching Cole for 4 runs and still hitting in the first.
  5. McEwing as well…who cares? And don’t leave Rodon out there in the heat for 115+ pitches, either.
  6. Let’s just hope we don’t get too cute with guys like Vaughn (or Burger for that matter) and get them hurt playing out of position. We can ill afford to lose Vaughn at this point, although Sheets has obviously made more of an impact than expected.
  7. They also wanted to deal Rosario, but he’s hurt right now…maybe Luplow as well, who’s just coming back right before the deadline supposedly.
  8. Yeah, Schoop from Detroit made more sense…as their fans are/were under no illusion about competing this year. And Merrifield is a complicated decision for KC front office, as he’s an important aspect of that offense. You trade him, you need yet another replacement. Witt Jr. and Mondesi should be it, but losing him still is a blow to the fanbase, like SEA trading Haniger would be.
  9. And should have just as many homers if not more homers in Chicago than CLE, although we say that with every acquisition…at least he’s a pro’s pro you can count on and will make Anderson better as part of that DP combo. Most importantly, no adjustment period…can hit the ground running against AL Central opponents. Then you have no injury or Covid concerns, a really hot stretch in recent months and the flexibility provided by the 2022 in case they want to keep him over Leury (that requires Engel proving he can stay healthy, too.)
  10. Vaughn just doesn’t have nearly enough RBI’s….would need 20+ Homers and 75ish.
  11. So your definition of a bench player is now sitting 30% of the time? You said he was the third worst statistically qualified player in baseball and therefore shouldn't play at all, right? Why are the Padres so dumb to not follow your analysis? So far, since you benched him, he is 2/4 with a walk.
  12. They scout versatile players like Muncy, Taylor and Kike that are miscast or undervalued/utilized in other organizations...or Turner, from the Mets, another example. The Padres do it through leveraging their minor league depth, as well as drafting up the middle players (SS/2B/CF) who have enough pop to play on the corners. Or they give big bucks to Machado. Despite the presence of Tatis, they drafted Abrams, added Cronenworth (TB), traded 2B/SS Urias for CF Grisham (another centerpiece), added Profar/Kim....then drafted yet another SS 27th and finally traded for Frazier, who can play 2B/LF/RF/1B and probably 3B.
  13. There was never a Hosmer is great perspective. Where? So far you’re already 0/2, since he hasn’t sat out either game. And you might be 30% right and 70% wrong because the only time Cronenworth will be at first will be against LHP. Your position is that he would be benched everyday. I said all along that Cronenworth would be in the starting lineup, pretty much everyday, SOMEWHERE. Just like Frazier has been at second and left field, but your original argument was that Frazier was acquired to bench Hosmer 100% of the time. We will see tomorrow what Tingler does against another LHP in Freeland. Cronenworth, Hosmer and Profar will probably sit. Then Hosmer will play against Gray (if not traded), Marquez and no idea about Gomber on Sunday. Statistically, Hosmer should be hitting/starting 65-70% of the time, which is not being benched, it’s closer to a platoon.
  14. Sure, it’s just frustrating to watch all the contenders improve while we are simply betting on our injured players returning at 100%. Usually, teams with erratic bullpens and defense like this don’t last long in the post-season.
  15. Even when we catch a lucky break and cut down a runner…still doesn’t matter.
  16. Dead Team Walking these days. Hahn is asleep at the wheel. Just content to make it to the playoffs and spin the dice.
  17. Then he gets cranky when he gets called out on it…but hard to see how someone besides Harwell or Scully could manage it.
  18. Looks like he brushed the back of Benintendi…they never even made a call on the field.
  19. This is depressing. Especially if we do nothing at the trade deadline. Not even sure we can trust Hendriks in the playoffs. Now what? He had to be out of the baseline…
  20. Or pickings… Luckily we won the game yesterday or we’d be staring at a 1-6 run.
  21. Make it a black instead of red super rope, too!
  22. Another deal we didn't have the pieces required or the willingness to deal them...might as well get used to it.
