  1. Well, you’ve just captured quite accurately the fragile state of most Americans in mid-2020. That said, I’m not sure that an MLB messageboard is the best place to turn for psychological interventions, lol. Liberation after essentially being quarantined inside home for 8 months will lift the mood surely enough, so will returning to reconnect with students and colleagues and finally readjusting to a normalized routine again. Generally, walking and excessive sunshine do the trick, most days. Or sappy Korean dramas, haha. Labrador retriever puppies. Legos with my 5 year old. Being able to go back to the movie theatre again. Unfortunately, we’ve already lost two teachers to complete mental breakdowns, but those were 50% excessive alcohol consumption-induced. That’s one thing I don’t have to worry about, at least.
  2. I started this particular Robert thread, lol. I have never said anything but positive things about him. I guess with Moncada, I don’t remember anything particularly negative other than the identical concerns many expressed in 2017-18 about contact and switch-hitting from the RH side, as well as susceptibility to injuries. With Jimenez, it’s strictly a matter of hoping for defensive improvements and more emphasis on that aspect of his game, as well as improving his throwing motion/mechanics from the OF.
  3. He was “fine” in the beginning...and would have been okay if the team performances and franchise in general were going in a positive direction. He became another victim of the toxicity around the team. He didn’t need to get fired like Stone and Caray by the Cubs. Try to demonstrate some objectivity and don’t try to sell the fans something they won’t buy. And especially don’t double down on that position, instead of lightening up and discovering a middle ground between carrying water for the team and doing something where you’re so critical/open/honest you’re constantly on the verge of getting fired (Harry Caray, Piersall, Drysdale.)
  4. Sounds good! The bottom line is that I will never forgive Hahn for that idiotic Shields trade...not until we at least get back to the ALCS. Thankfully, Luis Robert arrived on the scene or we would have been one true impact player short. But I don’t have any reason to believe that Hahn and not KW was the main reason that got done. Secondly, I have never understood hero-worshipping Hahn while denigrating KW, when the latter has been responsible for evaluating and bringing in the majority of talent. This idea of Hahn, Genius on a Leash, with KW, Destroyer of the Franchise, has never made any sense, at all.
  5. I still listen to him doing Rays’ games occasionally, but mostly on the road. He just has a warmth about him, he treats fans with respect...is knowledgeable and passionate, but never belittles. John Rooney had that quality...still does. For me, Wayne Hagin and Rooney will always be the gold standard. After that broadcasting team was broken up, Sox radio broadcasts have always been a bit lacking.
  6. We’re reaching the point where we are getting good again...and the company line is going to be don’t criticize anyone, other than a few designated scapegoats and Renteria. It hasn’t happened yet, groupthink setting in, when you can only praise the team or be considered as a dark cloud, but it will happen soon enough. Maybe it’s worth it, as long as we have a winning team, it could be considered a fair trade. It was the undoing of WSI. But that’s because the mods forced this “must adhere to our viewpoint/s strictly” mentality. I mean, I get it. Parkman has Giolito that he has to defend at all costs. For me, I will never say anything bad about Robert and Madrigal...heck, was the same with Dayan Viciedo. But, at a certain point, you lose the forest for the trees and stop being objective about “your” players. Everyone will always have their favorites, that’s never going to change. And perhaps I don’t appreciate Jimenez because I’ve allowed “WAR is God” to seap in too much into evaluating, which will always over-reward certain types of players and especially positions like SS and CFers. So I can HOPE Eloy Jimenez becomes the next Alex Gordon out there, while mainly just hoping he never hurts himself, or Moncada/TA/Robert around him.
  7. Usually I get mistaken for Tiger Woods, lol. Seriously? Si, se puede!
  8. He was condescending, and took out his anger on fans quite often. He didn’t consider whether he was growing the product or not...how he might be coming across to kids at home listening? Simply, he was a management/front office/ownership spokesperson. No empathy, and he rarely complimented anyone for making an insightful point...like ever. He was always, I’m this “elite” guy with insiderish knowledge and connections, everyone else is beneath me. He was always a bigger fan of the Cardinals than Sox, for another. Listen to C-Span Washington Journal to see it done well. 90% of callers are meatheads that need to be cut off, but they are oh so much more patient with callers. Teach the game if someone doesn’t understand a point. Don’t just mock them and talk down to them and play Hero Ball for the 10-15% who really understand and follow the team religiously. I highly doubt there are many here who simply loved Chris Rongey and felt he was an excellent ambassador for the organization. Because he wasn’t. Give me a Brooks Boyer every day who is positive, optimistic...Dave Wills, same, or even Scott Merkin. They love the game and the White Sox, not just hearing themselves get the last word in time after time.
  9. So why are we allowing so much snark about Madrigal’s limitations, when he answered all those questions in his first full minor league season? With Eloy, we already have had how many defensive “incidents” in the past 15 months? We also know he has one of the weaker throwing arms from the position. That doesn’t mean he can’t be the next JD Martinez, but it has to be at least SOMEWHAT of a concern to White Sox fans. People gave up on Madrigal after his first eight at-bats, in games the White Sox actually WON.
  10. I think every single White Sox fan just wants him to stay healthy and realize his potential as a hitter. Whether he’s actually improved or not, it’s safe to say we should at least have a sense of humor as many times as he puts himself in awkward positions out there. Every game thread is filled with expressions of concern, right alongside the hope he isn’r relegated to full time DH so early in his career, and the ramifications for Vaughn and Abreu. People here have been snarky about Madrigal for 2+ years and yet I don’t recall attacking them forvtheir comments. If you want to defend his defensive game and project how he’s working to protect himself from injury out there, have at it.

  12. https://theathletic.com/1977283/2020/08/05/do-the-white-sox-already-have-enough-to-win-with/?source=dailyemail Do the White Sox Already Have Enough to Compete With? “With the expectations being, right now, that both Lopey and Carlos will be able to rejoin us here in the coming weeks, I don’t think we will end up going outside,” Hahn said of trading for starting pitching. “If in fact that plan changes in terms of their availability, I do think we’ll have a few other options among our young arms down in Schaumburg that could potentially fill those voids as well. We’re, what, 11 games in? And the trade deadline’s three and a half weeks or four weeks away. So it’s a weird dynamic.” If the White Sox, endlessly speaking of multiple championships and long-term goals before the world went to hell and left them with a 60-game season, will not trade for starting pitching, what would they trade for? They’re loath to rule out anything, but with Nomar Mazara back, Tim Anderson beginning his rehab from a groin strain on Thursday, and already a surplus of 1B/DH bats, the offense doesn’t present obvious needs even before a discussion of how Luis Robert, Eloy Jiménez and Yoán Moncada have led them to a 130 wRC+ as a team through Tuesday.
  13. https://www.fangraphs.com/players/dallas-keuchel/9434/stats?position=P 2.9 - 3.75 last three seasons. 2016 was a big disappointment, but the two prior years were really excellent as well. He's a reasonable facsimile of Mark Buehrle in 2011 around the time he left Chicago for the Marlins with Ozzie.
  14. Well, they are without Cain and Braun... that offense just isn't the same as the last two seasons. That said, can field and pen it up with the best of 'em. Houser looks legit.
  15. Hey, now. There's a growing market for the blow up doll in Toronto dust-up. Could it be any worse than Our Chuck updates? Plus, I already have Yasiel Puig lined up as first guest via Zoom to talk glowingly about his fellow countrymen.

  17. Agreeable, and reasonable, even. https://www.espn.com/mlb/stats/team/_/view/batting/table/batting/sort/runs/dir/desc White Sox one game "slumped" them all the way down to 10th MLB in Runs Scored, 5th in the AL.
  18. At least 4 have died in AZ/NM from ingesting hand sanitizer, one with permanent vision loss One patient, a 44-year-old man, said that he drank hand sanitizer in the few days before seeking medical care, according to the CDC paper. The man was hospitalized for six days for acute methanol poisoning and when he was discharged, he went home with almost complete vision loss. Four of the adults in the CDC report died. "This investigation highlights the serious adverse health events, including death, that can occur after ingesting alcohol-based hand sanitizer products containing methanol," the researchers wrote in the new CDC report. "Safety messaging to avoid ingestion of any alcohol-based hand sanitizer product should continue," they wrote. "Young children might unintentionally swallow these products, whereas adolescents or adults with history of alcohol use disorder might intentionally swallow these products as an alcohol (ethanol) substitute." https://www.cnn.com/2020/08/05/health/hand-sanitizer-cdc-warning-study-wellness/index.html Reopened schools in Georgia’s Paulding and Cherokee counties drew negative attention this week after viral photographs appeared to show students packing hallways with little regard for social distancing or mask-wearing. The most prominent images were taken on Tuesday by a 10th grader in North Paulding High School who posted them on social media and described the hallway situation as severely jammed. Other viral images showed students from Cherokee County’s Etowah High School and Sequoyah High School standing in close proximity for senior photos with nary a mask in sight. Prior to schools reopening on Monday, North Paulding High School’s principal, Gabe Carmona, sent a letter to parents alerting them that members of the football team had contracted COVID-19, not specifying the numbers or the severity of their cases. According to BuzzFeed, Carmona also addressed the viral images on Wednesday, reportedly stating over the intercom that students who publicly criticized the school on social media could face disciplinary action. Paulding County Superintendent Brian Otott also addressed the images in a statement, arguing that they were being criticized “without context” and saying the crowds only lasted for a “brief period” when students were transitioning between classes. “Wearing a mask is a personal choice and there is no practical way to enforce a mandate to wear them,” Otott said. “What we will do is strongly encourage all students and staff to wear masks.” https://www.yahoo.com/huffpost/covid-19-georgia-paulding-cherokee-county-back-to-school-212625333.html Apparently, 70% elected to go to in-person classes in this particular district
  19. Meanwhile, the Brewers started with 6 on the road, missed 4 against StL (so only 2/6 home games played, against SOX), 2 games at Chicago, 6 back at home, then a monster 10 game road swing again. 18 road games 8 home Out of their first 26. Plus they were on the shelf for 4 consecutive days, backing their schedule up to where they have almost no off-days and a number of DH's the rest of the season. KBO 2. Kiwoom Heroes: 44-31 (4) -- The Heroes went 5-0, including a 22-7 rout of Samsung on Saturday, a run that coincided with the arrival of Addison Russell. The former Cubs All-Star went 10-for-25 with a homer, five runs and six RBIs in his first five KBO games.
  20. And he's currently on the best team in MLB, percentage-wise, haha.
  21. Yeah, have never seen him graded as plus/elite, I guess players have reputations from early in their careers and its difficult to get scouts to arrive at re-evaluations or admit they were wrong. IMO, he's never going to touch Corey Seager as a player, not even close. By the way, Alek Thomas (DBacks, son of Sox strength & condition coach Allen Thomas) has shot all the way up to 53.
  22. Almost overran that one. Guess he just started playing the outfield in 2020. Not sure Counsell is very wise to put him out there.
