  1. Glad someone is paying attention!
  2. Not beat. We had an outbreak of hemorrhagic fever in Shaanxi Province. Hantavirus death in Yunnan. Hong Kong had to shut down international airport again due to imported cases from abroad...mostly stranded students returning, along with permanent residents from all over the globe. Singapore back in a huge fight again after besting back initial wave, mostly from churches there (in that way, quite similar to S.Korea.) Malaysia and Thailand starting to go sideways...Indonesia with 300+ million looms, along with Italy. Half the roughly 700 cases on the Grand Princess were asymptomatic when testing positive. One guy was in the hospital in Omaha for 28+ days before he came up negative finally. I will watch Fox News Town Hall at 12 EST. First time in life watching Fox. Just to see Dr. Fauci, whether still sidelined. Knew Harris Faulkner when she was just starting her media career at WDAF in Kansas City. Remember Bill Hemmer from CNN days. Trump will be on around 1230, 1130 CST.
  3. But they are issued 1099’s through a US address or PO Box, yes?
  4. Being outdoors helps a bit. MMA or WWE was one that was going forward until the halt. Golf without patrons wouldn’t be dramatically different for non-majors. Football becomes a lot more complicated due to the amount of contact and number of players/coaches/staff associated with each team.
  5. It’s pretty obvious that chloroquine and the phosphate version for aquariums/fish was too subtle a distinction to make for this particular family.
  6. Well, those are the “scare the hell out of people to get them to comply voluntarily” worst-case numbers. It’s more instructive to look at Spain for a comparison. They’re not at peak yet. Germany and France seem to be doing better, and the UK is taking a similar approach to US...which is essentially playing Blackjack against the house. There are some really scary areas yet to come, though... 1) Most of Africa 2) India 3) Middle East, starting with Iran and spilling over 4) Hundreds of thousands of displaced persons and refugee camps 5) Homeless populations in the US
  7. “For every officially certificated positive, there are ten non-certified,” Angelo Borrelli of the agency said in an interview with the daily La Repubblica. His office told CNN the quote was accurate. That would mean Italy would have had more than 600,000 positive cases of coronavirus, according to Borrelli’s estimate, having recorded a total of 63,967 cases as of Monday. It could also potentially help explain what seems to be a much higher death rate in Italy than in other countries. According to World Health Organization statistics, as of March 22, Italy had a death rate of more than 9% of all confirmed cases. If the country actually has had ten times as many cases as recorded, the death rate would be 0.9%. This would be more in line with the 0.6% death rate in South Korea, for example. Civil protection agency data Tuesday showed a slight decrease in the number of cases for a second consecutive day, but only in the “next few hours we will see if the growth curve is really starting to flatten,” Borrelli said. “We should buy more ventilators and masks should be sold at every street corner,” said Borrelli, admitting difficulties in finding these medical supplies. www.cnn.com Gut reaction is they’re probably closer to 4-5%, maybe 6%. And we’ll never know, but even the most draconian population controls in history only led to a 3.8% mortality rate here in Wuhan. South Korea has many more younger non-smoking women with the virus, Italy has a significant number of older smoking males.
  8. Amen. I instinctively knew trouble was in store when Dr. Fauci didn’t come out. The president hates being upstaged, and the doctor’s comments about not being able to push him out of the way and take the mike were received predictably. Part of me believes he simply wants to prove he’s smarter than Fauci now. Another larger part believes he stands on no consistent principle (deficit reduction? Now they’re opening the Federal taps full bore, whereas the Obama stimulus package was purposely denied even a trillion dollar price tag. Imagine Obama handing out government checks to the poorest Americans, and daring to do it without an American flag lapel pin??? A purple tie on? What? Can’t do it. Now even the likes of Mitt Romney are in the UBI deep state Wang Gang purchasing votes , lol.) The president and particularly Kudlow, Mnuchin and Navarro so obviously realized the stock market was cratering....unemployment of 30% looming...that no incumbent has been in this position in an election year with 43% approval and heading straight into a recession/depression and survived. Well, McKinley 120 years ago. This is much bigger than Carter in 1980, George HW Bush in 1992, this is like end of days/armageddon style gambling, except with American peoples’ lives, not steaks, water, Trump University, Trump Shuttles or over-leveraged casinos on the firing line. I really HOPE it works, because my 91 year old mother in assisted living could easily be one of the victims...but I just can’t believe that the only thing standing in his way is determined state and local officials. I never thought in my lifetime I would see the GOP acting like an authoritarian state while the resistance against centralized power in DC was governors and mayors and epidemiologists standing in the breach.
  9. https://www.foxnews.com/opinion/steve-hilton-flatten-coronavirus-curve-but-not-the-economy Millions of lives are at stake now because Donald Trump watched this particular broadcast Sunday morning...sigh. https://www.cnn.com/2020/03/23/opinions/refugees-displaced-people-coronavirus-threat-lemmon/index.html What happens when displaced/refugee camps are struck by virus... ?
  10. https://www.cnn.com/2020/03/24/politics/donald-trump-coronavirus-strategy/index.html Really gambling the entire election on an uncontrollable phenomenon of nature that devours half-measures. https://twitter.com/Laurie_Garrett/status/1242283412087623685/photo/1 I need to share a #COVID19 letter from Rome. The writer is on the Board of an intl school there. She writes: "This is an account of what my family and I are going through now - this instant. I'm a private person. I don't share photos or family stories on social media..." MORE https://www.nytimes.com/2020/03/22/health/coronavirus-restrictions-us.html “The Virus Can Be Stopped, But Only With Harsh Steps“ This @nytimes article by @DonMcNeil s a must-read. It spells out clearly what USA needs to do ASAP to control #COVID19 & limit our national death toll. If you want something to fight for, pick an item on this list and start shouting to your politicians.
  11. We had local infections again in Wuhan...even hemorrhagic fever outbreak in Shaanxi Province, so not returning to normal for at least another two weeks now. SIGH. Phew. Finally got an official FREEDOM DAY. January 23rd until April 8th. Eleven weeks. Definitely not 15 days.
  12. That Cepheid test kit is supposed to be 45 minutes instead of 3 hours plus, but do they have enough reagents now?
  13. What is rational is that this is a health care crisis, first and foremost. Sen. Lindsey Graham asked what good does it do to address the economic issues with $1.8 trillion if the virus is still rampaging through our public health care systems like a wildfire...? Makes sense to me!
  14. A man died and his wife needed critical care after they both took a drug meant for aquariums that contains chloroquine, which President Trump recently touted as a treatment for COVID-19 in spite of a lack of study by health officials or approval by the World Health Organization. According to the Banner Health hospital system in Phoenix, the couple, both in their sixties, ingested chloroquine phosphate, "an additive commonly used at aquariums to clean fish tanks." One aquarium supply store online described it as a "wonder drug" that was once only available through veterinarians — for saltwater fish, not humans. The site is currently sold out of the drug. https://www.buzzfeednews.com/article/briannasacks/man-died-chloroquine-phosphate-coronavirus Where could they possibly get the idea chloroquine would be beneficial from a medical standpoint? Or poisoning people in other countries, like Nigeria...from the noted conservative NY Post. https://nypost.com/2020/03/22/nigeria-reports-poisonings-from-possible-coronavirus-drug-chloroquine/
  15. And...if you’re going to start copying Governor Cuomo’s PPT style...at least make it so everyone can read what they say. VP Pence was standing around looking bored and reading the slide. Meanwhile, Dr. Birx was basically calling out Rand Paul for not following the stated guidelines.
  16. Used for lupus, among others. Now the patients who really need it are being denied by hoarding. Without knowing more about the potential side effects when taken in combination, there’s no need to mention ANY specific drugs. Anyone notice Dr. Fauci sidelined today after he said “it’s not like I can push him out of the way and take the mike.” The president also mentioned Regeneron as a drug, it’s actually a company. Or maybe he just threw it all out together intentionally, who knows?
  17. Me, cute? I guess I need to be more literal next time and spell it out explicitly. “A rapidly escalating outbreak has plateaued, and come down faster than would have been expected. Back of the envelope, it's hundreds of thousands of people in China that did not get Covid-19 because of this aggressive response.” NY Times Dr. Aylward didn’t mean the draconian measures here, people being locked inside apartments just for being suspected of being ill, closing pharmacies to force lots of people who had other health problems into hospitals and likely infected, bribing people to turn sick people into authorities, 40000 person banquets with 12000+ shared dishes weeks after they knew there was a serious problem, command structure which caused local officials to wait for Beijing to decide after keeping it quiet for weeks, whistle blowing doctors and reporters disappeared or reprimanded...there are 50 things I could point out that China messed up that made things much worse.
  18. What I was saying was that Bruce Aylward is the WHO’s version of Tony Fauci...to put it in proper perspective.
  19. Lol. Totally conciliatory for one day towards Asians and preaching bipartisanship. Pushing this drug that has poisoned someone in Nigeria as well...I automatically looked up the patent and assumed a family or Cabinet member had a vested interest in Mylan. https://www.mylan.com/en/about-mylan/leadership
  20. Day 5....but many imported by travelers into Hong Kong, Beijing and Shanghai.
  21. This is from the Dr. Tony Fauci of the WHO (meaning corresponding equivalent, since few know him yet.)
  22. We are not Venezuela or Cuba or Sandanistas! Of course, the reality is many northern European countries are nationalized in various industries, and China has the best record of bringing people out of poverty to middle class in the last fifty years. Singapore, yet another example. Nobody wants to have that more nuanced conversation. Too complicated.
  23. You didn’t read carefully. He has been criticized for being too complimentary of China, but one of the true experts in the world.
  24. https://www.yahoo.com/news/coronavirus-ever-away-heres-one-094824995.html This is from the Dr. Tony Fauci of the WHO, lots of great information and predictions/forecasts...
  25. Who wants to be on record against saving American lives when they run for re-election? Biggest stimulus package in Congressional history...the no’s will be less than 10. Bernie Sanders or Warren could be two no’s as well...but Warren is tacking back to center for VP consideration.
