Non-White Sox Off-Season Hot Stove
Carson Benge, RF, New York MetsOf these six rookies, Benge might have been the closest to starting the season in the minors, due to his relatively short tenure as a professional. The No. 19 pick in 2024, Benge reached Double-A by the end of that year, and he had just 24 games in Triple-A at the end of 2025. He was told at the outset of camp this year that he'd be given a chance to make the Mets, and he did everything they asked. He turned out to be everything they had hoped for, too, with an .874 OPS in spring training, and eventually won the right-field job to appear in New York's Opening Day lineup. espn.com

I called him above average defensively last year. you said near elite lol If you’re talking about Colton’s 2024 through the first two months of 2026 … nobody predicted his final three months? Receipts? Where are they? Lost in the mail?

“It’s popular among discontented fans wallowing in their own misery and you have the nerve to tell fair people who see some hope that they’re the ones crying about you.” Those who are for the Iran war would undoubtedly point their fingers at liberals and say the exact same thing. “Liberals don’t love their country and should move to another country if you’re so unhappy is the general sentiment. Liberals should be more positive/optimistic. Liberals are ashamed of American exceptionalism, etc.” Of course liberals for their part believe that the pro war crowd is quite delusional and would likely never advocate their own sons or daughters join the actual (non rhetorical) fighting in the Middle East. Two entrenched sides who both believe they’re 100% in the right. Which side is actually fair objective balanced? Well, it depends largely on one’s perspective, right? The greater point here isn’t about politics at all, but simply that there has to be two sides to have an argument or debate, but emotions/passions inevitably get in the way of reasonable discourse just as they do with serious real world topics. The only commonality between politics and SoxTalk is a poster openly admitting they hate me and the poster you are engaged with here…partially for being “dark clouds.” Except that same notion absolutely destroyed WSI, if you will kindly remember 10 or 15 years ago. That if you didn’t parrot the groupthink adulation for the front office and ownership group…well, there wasn’t a welcoming place for you there at their site. Now it’s reached the polar opposite side. But isn’t it better to agree to disagree than to let things get to the point of outright hatred on a sports-related message board? Aren’t there bigger problems in the world than how someone chooses to be a fan?

https://www.reddit.com/r/whitesox/comments/133du9a/luis_robert_jr_postgame_interview/ I've been a fan of Luis since the Sox signed him, but I lost a lot of respect for him after watching that interview. That he doesn't inform the coaching staff and then head to the trainer's room for treatment when his hamstring feels tight is troubling, especially given his history of injuries. He's an elite defensive center fielder, but that he still nearly causes collisions with other outfielders is troubling. That he had to have interpreter Billy Russo tell him bench coach's Charlie Montoyo's name is troubling. I want to like Luis, but this dude is in need of a reality check

https://www.yahoo.com/sports/articles/dodgers-just-pushed-mlb-closer-001124687.html Dodgers warming up to salary cap Why even the Dodgers stand to benefit from a salary capDo I think that Walter is actually too concerned with parity? No, not really. He's not a stupid man; he knows that MLB has about as much parity as every other major American sports league. But he also knows that the institution of a cap is a great way to keep your costs in check, and that, like any business, keeping costs in check is good for the bottom line - and, more specifically, the value of your franchise. While the effects of a cap on competitive balance are mixed at best, the effects of a cap on an owner's net worth are crystal clear: With annual spending largely fixed, the line basically only ever goes up, which is why owners from the NFL to the NBA to the NHL have seen their investments multiply in value over the years. Walter wants some of that for himself; the arrival of a salary cap in baseball means a rising tide that will lift all boats, and fatter profit margins against the next round of broadcast rights agreements. Whether it's actually good for the game or its fans is an afterthought, at best.

Shumate sounded deflated when UConn’s Braylon Mullins hit a deep 3-pointer in the closing seconds to hand the Huskies a 73-72 win, and then he called for a technical foul on Duke’s opponent, alleging that Malachi Smith ran onto the court. “Seven seconds, tried to throw it ahead, deflected! stolen by Connecticut!” Shumate said during the call. “Two seconds! It’s Mullins up top for the win! Oh, he hit it, with three-tenths of a second to go! Malachi Smith ran off the bench! That should be a technical, but with three-tenths of a second to go, Connecticut has the lead, 73-72.”
