If we brought in Jose Villar’s 4.0 fWAR, would that automatically be an A+? Hahn could certainly have chosen to go that route.

Hard to be against Mazara and for Collins simultaneously. Collins will eventually get his opportunity, especially if a starter goes down somewhere and McCann is traded. In the end, they weren’t ready to commit long-term to Ozuna and Castellanos at their reported asking prices, or risk disrupting the positive clubhouse vibes with Puig. So Mazara is an easy experiment to end...but still has a payoff. If we looked at his numbers from an 80’s or 90’s perspective, it would seem like a decent move.

Fighting With My Family is one of the best movies of the year, despite the WWE backdrop and predictable real-life storyline. Unfortunately, the Oscars will never recognize it. Japanese animation film Weathering With You continues the successful run of Shinkai, follow-up to “Your Name,” which became a phenomenon in Asia. The next Miyazaki.

Banuelos and Detwiler? Santiago? Trying to figure out an Edwin besides Diaz and Jackson...

I see someone already posted it anyway.

At first I thought it was Carlos until I just read this whole page and it was Jose....great example of "selling high" on a guy who fits the Cardinals/Rays platoon system of not spending boatloads on limited tool players who serve an important purpose on a 26 man roster. -
Other than Wheeler over Keuchel, arguing over one of the second/third tier guys vs. Gio G., or thinking we should have added Ozuna/Castellanos/Puig instead of Mazara, there's not a WHOLE lot to argue with. Maybe the potential upside of Betances for the bullpen, but he seemed pretty determined to stay in NYC.

Ruth and Mantle with modern fitness/conditioning/osteopathic surgeons and no alcohol? Someone like a Jobe or Dr. Andrews capable of repairing Sandy Koufax's body or Gale Sayers, for example? -

The Cardinals aren't going to part with THAT much talent AND taking on a huge contract like that. It's just not the way they've ever done business. The only way is they do surrender the talent but get money/subsidy back from the Rockies. -
It's going to take a Veterans' Committee for Schilling, just because of the current political polarization and the punishment for borrowing money from local governments to found that video game start-up that went Chapter 13...which also left a bad taste in the mouths of many New Englanders.

Well, surely any team in baseball would be interested in Giolito, Cease, Kopech and Lopez...in no particular order. Just part of being a top prospect pretty much since the beginning of time. You have to worry only when they stop inquiring about you, like Carson Fulmer or Dylan Covey. -

Well, yeah, you'll never convince anyone from my father's generation that current day ballplayers are/were better than Mantle, Aaron, Mays and Clemente, or Gibson, Koufax and Drysdale....let alone Ted Williams. -
Episode 7 was strictly made for fan service to invoke those same feelings as the late 70's/early 80's. It succeeded from that standpoint, but wasn't an advance of the story/plot...and makes almost no sense now in terms of scale/scope compared to the final movie overdoing almost everything. Rogue One still stands out as the best in this generation of films, by far.

Adam Eaton exploited the weakness in fWAR for outfield assists that season....just like Avi Garcia when he had one season with a 10+ number of assists. Of course, those outfielders that nobody runs on don't get equal credit for having the ability to control the running game, at least not in as easily a measurable/quantifiable way. He went from below average in CF to a well-above average corner outfielder, then put up the key offensive statistics that fWAR values to go along with it. But yeah, the point remains that teams are not willing to reward the Orioles for a 4ish fWAR infielder in Jose Villar...or nobody's willing to give Yolmer Sanchez $10+ million per year for being around a 2-2.5ish fWAR more often than not. -
Steve Stone: more bullpen help is coming

Yet we've spent how many hours and threads debating doing the exact same thing with the likes of Machado and Betts for just ONE season??? If bmags is going to advocate for Betts, surely there are others who would make the same trade for Thor, knowing the risk involved, but also realizing windows open and close more quickly in the majors than ever predicted (see Cubs/Royals). -
Ouch. Burned me with that first comment. You never answered the question. Where exactly does it belong...? There is no currently appropriate place...I guess the closest is MLB Catch-All, but there was only one current major leaguer that was involved, and that was only peripherally. So really, it's Winter Ball, which is mostly prospects and AAAA/Mexican League fillers, but it's not accurate to put it in the minor leagues as well. And random goldfish could probably put together a more coherent, cohesive plot to tie together the last three Star Wars movies. Plus, they only require minimal amounts of fish food, aeration and an occasional cleaning of their tank. But congrats for adding two to your score!

I think you might be in the minority on that one...or at least an even split. There's much less risk doing that, compared to giving Zack Wheeler a guaranteed $120 million. That said, the Mets won't entertain any moves on deGrom, Syndegaard, Stroman....not to mention Porcello, Wacha and Lugo...until mid-season. Have Gsellman as well, so lots of possibilities to open up, depending on our own pitching situation at that juncture of the season. -

Grady Fuson? How goes life after Moneyball? Meanwhile, DePodesta/Jonah Hill has brought analytics into the NFL, as well. The Dodgers haven’t won with analytics, it has been with out-scouting everyone since the 1950’s in Latin America...prescient drafting, big budgets, great pitching and almost never giving out huge contracts, other than the last one for Clayton Kershaw. You can add connections in Asia as well, and not only having a RoY candidate every season but discovering gems like Turner, Chris Taylor and Max Muncy, to name just a few. -

Fake trickle down economics is still not “fake” after over 40 years and multiple trials at the Federal, state and local levels, at least not to roughly 47% of American voters. But back to the original discussion, lol. -

Huizenga ordered that team to be torn down since it was too expensive for him to maintain in that market...even though he’s the one who okayed all the moves to put together a World Series winner in the first place. Then he went through multiple owners to get to the second title, building through the draft and Latin America, largely.
