Will Nick "The Little Magician" Madrigal be called up this year?
caulfield12 replied to ron883's topic in Pale Hose Talk
No, no, and HELL no. He's projected at something like 76 or 80 wrc+, Zips gives him a 1.2 war projection. Leury and Yolmer have already put up big league seasons much better than that, especially 2017. .253 .336 .380 .716 (that's his entire MILB slash line) Wilson Betemit and Ryan Sweeney will ask for their ST MVP Trophies back!!! That's TOO much of a hot take. Pitchers pitch. Buehrle, Quintana, even Shields last year. So, no, he wouldn't be the worst qualified starting pitcher in baseball, not by a long-shot. Worth $12-15 million per year, or even $18, no way, at least not to the White Sox...

Maybe? Depends if they trade Yolmer/Leury at the deadline...and obviously performance at BIRM. Mendick really has nothing to do with this decision, or, if he does, this franchise is in worse shape than we imagined. -
Or not be with the team for Opening Day and piss off everyone who bought tickets with that mistaken notion...bet the ticket office is being inundated by that query.
-
Stole Rizzo. Stole Russell (before he went to the dark side), got a #2 in Hendricks that was totally unexpected. Contreras developed into one of top five catchers in baseball after being an afterthought (see Santos, Sergio).
-
Unless you look at Floyd’s numbers in Philly and his draft position. Garland, would agree...no similarity. Heck, Danny Wright might be closer as a comp. or Rauch.
-
If we were living in 2011-12, Banuelos would be a great choice...but fine, nothing’s worse than an actually likeable HarvardWestlake kid who can’t get out of his own head. He’s the pitching version of Beckham/Quentin overthinking things. Paulie’s the only one to wrestle with himself like that psychologically and emerge whole at the end.
-
I left him off intentionally because we really still have no idea how well TJS will hold up if he tries to throw 102 again instead of determining to be more of a pitcher than a thrower.

Wrong on Gio, Moncada, Fulmer, Rodon, Collins as well? Moncada could still break either way, but that’s a lot more going wrong than right. In addition, a significant minority of SoxTalk is pretty much ready to declare Madrigal something between David Eckstein and Chris Getz. We have all of two success stories so far, Timmy and Lopez. Both are/were universally considered as complementary pieces and not the “core” guys like you have 3-4 of on the Northside. Bottom line, without the Q deal, the abyss would be opening up to swallow this franchise whole. 10 name limit reached.

Not sure about a 5-6 win improvement with Machado...but the spillover effect on the lineup (taking the pressure off the middle of the order and Yoan) and overall sagging morale of the fanbase would have reversed the Kopech gut punch. When it comes down to it, having the rebuild’s success pinned to just a handful of players probably wasn’t the wisest decision. Rodon has disappointed...we haven’t take advantage of the Robert deal to add another $30-50 million to bring in at least 4-5 more quality depth pieces, the Dominican is still a barren wasteland, then you have to start figuring in all the “just missed ‘em” draft decisions or players being selected either before or after the Sox, it’s just incredibly demoralizing. Above and beyond that, teams like Milwaukee, Oak and TB routinely outscout us, picking up Aguilar (thank god CLE lost him and Mejia)...or procuring Muncy, Chris Taylor and Turner off the scrap heap in LA. I guess we now have half a DH in Palka to show for last year...?

Was Giolito as bad as the box score would seem to indicate? Usual issues?
-
Proof is in the milb box scores...we heard the same or similar about Fulmer during the offseason.
-
His minor league numbers don’t assure that. Let’s see where is in July at Charlotte in terms of overall numbers.
-
They both eventually signed for fair market value...it was Trout who undervalued himself by half the money his historical fWAR numbers merited.

No...that wasn’t it. It was your having to add the caveat of usually ignoring a comment, which wasn’t really necessary. I’m perfectly content to talk about White Sox positives, when there are some legit ones and not puffery. I have been pretty much 100% positive about both Robert and Madrigal since they were added to the organization. I like Vizquel and Jirschele, too. So life is not miserable. Still have the Cubs’ opponents to cheer for if the Sox come up short, NCAA tourney, Master’s...the very best two week period of the year (unless you love NHL and NBA playoff season more.) Even watched most of the Mariners/A’s game in Tokyo, and won’t forget Ichiro’s numerous contributions to the game or watch Matt Chapman without wishing we’d drafted an absolute stud like that. Also hard not to watch Semien batting with Narvaez catching and wonder what if. I kept it under 10 names for Balta. Hope he appreciates it.

http://global.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/26316088/sources-chisox-jimenez-agree-record-deal Broke a new record, and got ESPN headline banner for first time since Machado on two occasions this offseason.

Because we had four huge trade hauls to kick things off...a terrible division to boost wins...better broadcasting rights deal than the other four teams in Central...tons of salary flexibility going forward...excitement over Luis Robert signing and his five tool skill set, multiple Top 10-12 draft picks, etc.
-
He was supposedly low 90’s in the B game. Needs 93-95 to be effective.
-
Sharp and efficient first inning. Wish Lucas, Lopez, Rodon and Fulmer could pitch that quickly, really picks up the defensive morale.
-
Curious to see what Santana has left, finally. Also, Mendick fans are getting a rare treat this preseason.
-
I’ll have one of whatever he’s having...despite having to get up for work in 3 1/2 hours.
-
At least they now get 32000+ for the opener unless the weather forecast is abysmal...an attendance in the twenties would have been a PR nightmare.
-
Let’s just wait and see. With Michael Fulmer out now and Keller starting for KC in the opener, there’s 57 divisional games to pad offensive numbers.
-
Surprisingly good two years ago, surprisingly bad last year. Which, when you look at his overall milb body of work and how we acquired him, was not altogether unexpected.
-
We all know the fate of other Sox sites that enforced “group think positivism” about any and every move the team made. It’s going to take Eloy raking to refocus us, and Robert/Cease/Madrigal asserting themselves as 3 of the Top 25 prospects in the game and then the energy and exciting surrounding the June draft and finally, getting some more useful pieces back for Abreu, Alonso, Nova or Santana, N.Jones, potentially Herrera or Colome and maybe Leury or a catcher depending on their seasons as well as the progress of Collins/Zavala at Charlotte.
