  1. he's in cahoots with the CIA. How is that any different from defense contractors from World War II onward? Cahoots implies some type of nefarious dealings or a conspiracy or something like bribery/corruption....
  2. Sourcing, about last allegation/insinuation? For decades, big multinationals were always in cahoots with the military/industrial complex...but on the conservative side of the political spectrum. Starbucks is part of it as well?
  3. https://www.barstoolsports.com/boston/yoan-moncadas-offseason-workouts-seem-to-be-going-well/ Look how bulked up Moncada was in the upper body/arms when he was with Boston...November 22nd, 2015 (20 years old)
  4. Vlad the Impaler’s son, too. Soto, we’ll see. Seager.
  5. https://www.fangraphs.com/statss.aspx?playerid=10155&position=OF Trout peaked in 2012-13 when he turned 21 and 22 at midseason those years. Of course, he’s currently on pace at age 26/27 to obliterate those numbers.
  6. Well, he did strike out in 2 of 3 at-bats following the homer...actually, he and Tim with nearly identical OPS, 725 vs. 722.
  7. You got Booger Presley on the bass guitar...and a rap by me, ole lil Lamar
  8. Maine GOP candidate for governor... Election nights are long -- no matter what. But asking voters multiple questions on each race further drags things out. So far, CNN has been unable to project a winner in the Maine House District or either the Democrat or Republican primary for Maine governor. While you wait, though, check out this is saucy video of one of Sen. Angus King's opponents, who ran unopposed for the Republican nomination, has online. He's a long shot. source: cnn.com
  9. California's Gavin Newsom wants to lead the way to a post-Bernie, post-Hillary party Now, as a candidate for governor at a time of fake news, rising populism and a progressive base that has responded by turning against both Davos Democrats and Silicon Valley, Newsom no longer stumps about “Citizenville.” (“Every time I talk about participatory platforms,” he tells Yahoo News, “my campaign team literally tries to choke me.”) Instead, he is promoting a liberal wish list that would, if enacted, represent one of the largest government expansions California has ever seen: a statewide single-payer health care system; universal preschool; full-service community schools, open every day; hundreds of thousands of new affordable housing units per year; a state energy grid run solely on renewable energy; and a state bank dedicated to financing infrastructure projects, small businesses and the burgeoning marijuana industry. ... And he is skeptical, even critical, of fellow progressives like Bernie Sanders, who he says want to “tear other folks down” — presumably richer folks — in order to build their movement. But I have 23 little businesses I started out of college, with 800 employees,” he continues. “The one tendency I have not succumbed to, that I don’t embrace, is begrudging other people’s success. Some people in our party, their rhetoric comes across as particularly crass in how it relates to economic development, entrepreneurism, business growth. I just caution against that. I don’t think that’s a healthy thing for our party. I hear everyone say, ‘I’m pro-job,’ and then I hear us bashing the private sector. I’m not there.” https://www.yahoo.com/news/californias-gavin-newsom-wants-lead-way-post-bernie-post-hillary-party-160041273.html
  10. Fwiw, the last similar college middle infielder we drafted (Beckham) played just 14 games in Kanny his draft year. Madrigal should sign faster and has at least a 50/50 shot at Winston-Salem by the end of August. Might move depending on the post-season playoffs for both teams.
  11. In the four Virginia competitive US House races in November, female candidates have all won the Democratic nominations, the latest example of the party turning to women to unseat vulnerable Republicans in the President Donald Trump era. On Tuesday, three women -- Elaine Luria, Abigail Spanberger and Jennifer Wexton -- won Democratic primaries. Earlier this year at the party convention, journalist Leslie Cockburn won the nomination in Virginia's 5th Congressional District. There are currently no Democratic women in Virginia's 11-seat congressional delegation. ... "Women have been leading the resistance, leading in activism and come November they will lead the way in Democrats taking back the House," said Christina Reynolds, top strategist for Emily's List, a Democratic organization that recruits and funds Democratic women to run for office who support abortion rights. "Virginia is a key part of that effort and EMILY's List is proud to stand with the women running in these targeted races." A record number of Democratic women have filed to run for Congress since Trump stepped into the White House, with many telling CNN they chose to run in response to his presidency. To date, 476 women have filed to run for the House in 2018, according to the Center for American Women and Politics at Rutgers University, surpassing the 272 who filed in 2016. After last week's primaries in California, Alabama, Iowa and other states, 114 women have won their primary elections. And 45 are on Tuesday's ballots. source: cnn.com
  12. https://www.cnn.com/2018/06/12/politics/what-really-came-out-of-the-trump-kim-summit/index.html What did Trump actually get and what did he give up? Seems so far it's 85% to the advantage of North Korea...because a MUCH MORE detailed, denuclearization agreement was signed as recently as 2005 by the Bush administration and obviously that didn't take (or wasn't enforced).
  13. I think letting Zavala DH and catch part-time in AAA has to be one of the many moves they're considering. Collins should probably stay down there until the end of July...maybe he gets moved up for the final month of the MILB schedule, but they need to maximize their catching time (as well as accumulating at-bats.)
  14. It should be noted that just mentioning Moncada caused not only one homer tonight, but Puig has also gone 2/3 (2B and HR) to raise his OPS for the season all the way up to .795 after a terrible start to the season (12-3 Dodgers, BOT 6th).
  15. Palka runs like a combination of Lurch, the Hulk and Shrek...faster than the Flying Molina Brothers, at least. Omar Narvaez continues to have the phrase "days are numbered" attached to his big league roster presence...
  16. The umpires have lifted their curse/s!!! Rutherford homers the same night...might as well have Robert hit his first too in the nightcap. Basabe. Yolmer.
  17. And the deluge begins...notice I picked a day when Moncada was facing a favorable match-up against a pitcher he looked good against in CLE, haha?
  18. Well, I quickly jumped on board the Covey, Madrigal and Tatis, Jr., bandwagons. Will see how those work out. Ohtani and Puig, the results have been mixed, at best. Obviously, there was concern from the very beginning about his elbow ligaments before the Angels signed him, so we'll just have to wait and see what happens. Puig has been worth 15.6 fWAR over about 5 seasons, so that works out to a 3.1 fWAR average. Still a HUGE step down from the 4.75 promise of his 2013-14 seasons. I think a 3.5-4.0 fWAR is a reasonable expectation for Moncada, right?
  19. You didn’t like the post expressing concern/s about Moncada. You are obviously unconcerned...based on what? The fact that he now pretty much has to hit for the cycle tonight because this thread was bumped, allowing everyone to more safely jump back onto the bandwagon? Why have gamethreads if not for hot takes, armchair managing and “grandiose declarations?”
  20. Well, considering he was already at 1.6 fWAR weeks ago before the whole hamstring thing, ANYTHING seems a possible outcome with Moncada at this point in his career. And, fwiw, Carlos Correa (and Lindor) were two of the very top group of prospects pre-Buxton.
  21. The same thing has happened to Adam Eaton over the course of his career...young players are always going to rub veterans the wrong way, especially when they have $63 million at age 19/20 instead of waiting until free agency like American-born players. Of course, similar things were also said about fellow Cubans Cespedes and especially Puig.
  22. “I couldn't disagree more with anyone talking about his bat speed. I say this with zero hyperbole but he reminds me so damn much of Manny (Ramirez). Even his outs are goddamn tremendous. I had a discussion with some of the clubhouse people for Greenville (Sally League.) Their take was that he came onto the team with a bit of a chip on his shoulder and probably a feeling of superiority ('he was a prick'). The first few weeks humbled him quickly and to his credit (and to the credit of HC Darren Fenster) he turned it around almost on a dime.” http://sonsofsamhorn.net/index.php?threads/yoan-moncada.9105/page-3 Some interesting observations here...concerns about the K’s, his trying to bulk up, his eventual defensive position...the scouting report is gone, but former Angels’ Scouting Director Tory Hernandez had him at 60 floor and 65 ceiling.
  23. He wants North Korea to look like Seoul or Tokyo and for Japan and South Korea to pay for everything. Of course. Just like the wall. Meanwhile, he keeps bragging about saving 30-40 million people from certain death...the Nobel Peace Prize is going to take a lot more substance than the PT Barnum show we have going on so far with both these egomaniacs.
  24. Look at guys like Willson Contreras, Sal Perez and Gary SANCHEZ....odds are much higher with position conversions or simply just playing Latin American lottery tickets than drafting high first rounders.
