How did all of these hitters do in the Cape Cod League? That transition from aluminum to wood bats is pretty darned important.
-
Simple, they're going to have to trade Robertson, Swarzak, Holland, Frazier, Cabrera and Nate Jones (if healthy). Rule 5 Draft again Free agents, probably not this offseason, but after 2018...depending upon where the rebuild is. There's always the possibility of a Japanese/Korean player as well. Finally, they're getting positive contributions out of Avi Garcia, Davidson, Leury Garcia and Yolmer Sanchez. Before the season began, Saladino was the ONLY one of those five who looked like he could be a part of the future. You also have Nicky Delmonico, Engel, Danny Hayes, Willy Garcia, Liriano...the "net positive" of all the players listed in this paragraph is pretty high, based on preseason expectations. But yeah, Collins and Moncada both have to be studs. Robert needs to be a 3+ WAR guy. You forgot Basabe at Winston-Salem...Call and Fisher, as well. And you're leaving out the 1st/2nd/3rd round draft picks in 2017/18/19. Finally, you have a Top 3 organization in MILB...some of that pitching can potentially be a valuable trade piece for the Sox.

Almost 22,000, a bit disappointing for Sale vs. Q, but a dreaded Tuesday night game. 23. MIN 23,101 24. ARI 22,648 25. CIN 21,681 26. CHW 21,646 27. CLE 21,394 28. MIA 20,970
-
The "positive spin" with Q for now: 1) White Sox don't know what will happen with Rodon, so he gives the rotation more certainty going forward 2) Still fits into the 2019/20 window, assuming everything falls into place the next 1 1/2 seasons. 3) More valuable to Sox than other teams, salary fits in no matter rebuilding org or not. 4) Good/great teammate and mentor for younger players coming into organization, has longest current tenure as a Sox player. 5) Other than Kopech and Hansen looking dominant (for now), there is a tremendous amount of uncertainty about Giolito/Fulmer/Lopez right now. Just finding one Q type out of that last group of 3 might prove to be elusive. So why sell him off for 60-75 cents on the dollar rather than full/perceived value?
-
Yeah, that's the problem now....the counterbalancing effect, because of the failures of raw/toolsy guys like Mitchell, Walker, Hawkins, Thompson, Barnum, etc., so the prevailing belief becomes that we shouldn't take those higher risk picks with the most upside but extremely low floors as well.

QUOTE (Jerksticks @ May 30, 2017 -> 10:12 PM) Dude. I just said I have a big heart for all people. Who the heck do you think you are telling me that I think it's "compelling stuff to put down the poor/immigrants/Muslims and anyone seeking the American Dream that's NOT white". I have absolutely no beef with you or anyone on this board Caulfield. Why on earth would you just call me a racist piece of crap? Why do that? First of all, I never said that. Why is the default defense position always the same? Why can't all of those groups I listed AND white males all enjoy success in America? Are they mutually-exclusive eventualities? Must one group (or more) fall while the others rise, or vice-versa? I keep reading all these stories laced with anti-Affirmative Action themes, it just makes me wonder when did everyone in America become so individually-oriented (I won't say selfish). As long as the policy goal isn't "the greatest good for the greatest number" (meaning all Americans, collectively), then everyone just gets put in these neat little boxes of interest groups and factions, the elderly vs. the Millennials, whites vs. non-whites, healthy vs. non-healthy, etc. I'm not even clear reading such posts that people are asking for 1) an end of Affirmative Action, because they believe it's inherently unfair, or 2) they're just upset they're no longer the recipient of any special benefits/support? What is the point of vilifying immigrants to the US when the rate at which they commit crimes is considerably lower than those born as Americans? (And this makes sense, logically, that you have to watch your P's and Q's in order not to do anything to jeopardize your citizenship/Green Card track.) Does everyone in this thread really want to round up every single family (even children, because it's unfair to separate them) in the US that has been here 5, 10, maybe even 20 years or more and send them back to Mexico? To create a police state where every single immigrant (with citizenship or not) lives in fear of a virtual police state??? I think the Gang of 8 might disagree on that count. It's just not the humane, Christian thing to do...and that's not even taking into account all the adverse economic impacts that will result. Lots of jobs that no Americans are willing to do. Tremendous crime/gang problems all pushed to the other side of the border (temporarily), with no realistic way to contain it, despite building all the ways in the world. I've never seen a single person give an account of all the many who benefited from Affirmative Action policies...and how their lives, and their families' lives were changed for the good or better? Does that have no intrinsic value, if it doesn't benefit you directly (and, in your idea, perhaps has an adverse effect)? http://money.cnn.com/interactive/technolog...diversity-data/ And if Affirmative Action has provided all these benefits to minorities, why is it not reflected at all by the employment numbers of those working in Silicon Valley at Cisco, Dell, ebay and Intel? Or representation in venture capital firms? Congress? Heads of major corporations? The main group succeeding is Asian-Americans, and they're succeeding in the face of the same "reverse discrimination" that is apparently debilitating to white Americans. What is it that's preventing all of those kids from succeeding in the American economy today, and why don't the same factors equally affect Asian-Americans (in fact, you can argue they have to work 2-4X as hard for the same rungs on the ladder as whites, yet they hardly ever complain, they just deal with the circumstances and overcome the competition.) And what would the numbers of minorities working in those above-surveyed companies WITHOUT Affirmative Action?

Frazier and Anderson sporting the same exact 673 OPS number at the end of the game... -

And Happ might even turn out to be the better player. You're talking Jacoby Ellsbury/Grady Sizemore in his prime for the best that Benintendi can do...what is the closest Happ comparison? Needless to say, I think 98.9% of White Sox fans would take either one (at this point) instead of Fulmer. -
QUOTE (Jerksticks @ May 30, 2017 -> 08:17 PM) You're slaying it in here right now. Super on point, calm and in control. It's quite pleasurable reading and as a grown man in this world with a big ass heart for everybody, I completely agree with every point you've made I think. Rockit LOL. If you think it's compelling stuff to put down the poor/immigrants/Muslims and anyone seeking the American Dream that's NOT white, okay. He sounds exactly like Mick Mulvaney. It's going to result in a disastrous mid-term election for the GOP in 2018. But who knows, 40% of the people in America believe that illegal immigrants TODAY IN AMERICA (under the Trump regime) actually have a MUCH easier time than whites born as American citizens.

How would Biden be "a creep" when he's arguably the most popular DEM politician today? Either him, Sanders or Michelle Obama. Liz Warren MIGHT be 4th. Hillary Clinton, white privilege, lol...you got me there. Her husband, not so much.

QUOTE (greg775 @ May 30, 2017 -> 09:06 PM) Ozzie was bad at the end, but I contend he's the best manager in Sox history. Yes, he beats out Al Lopez who led the Sox to the World Series in 1959. http://www.baseball-reference.com/managers/lopezal01.shtml He AVERAGED 90 wins a season over the course of 9 years. If not the for the Yankees, he would be a lot more famous. 90, 94, 94, 98, 95 were his five best. Ozzie had 99, 90 (2006), 2008 team I think ended up with 88 or 89...2010 team had a good run, but I would still take Lopez, especially because of the way that things fell apart at the very end between the Sox and Ozzie.

QUOTE (QuickJones81 @ May 30, 2017 -> 08:42 PM) I wouldn't mind seeing the Sox go with Jordon Adell in the first and JJ Matijevic in the second. If not Adell it would be great to see Bukauskas slip to the Sox. If they're not trading Quintana...it feels like they're going to need a collegiate bat, especially with Robert in the fold.
-
Well, Hostetler's philosophy has (supposedly) changed the drafting process...so we'll know if he or KW is ultimately calling the shots still if they take Kendall over some of the other available collegiate bats that have been discussed.

QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ May 30, 2017 -> 08:23 PM) I love how aggressive Renteria is with the pen sometimes. he understands leverage. LOL We definitely need to have those two lefties. You can't get by with just one. Purke is the next man in line again? Although I guess they'll give Holmberg a few more opportunities, despite his pedestrian stuff. All we need to do is find the left-handed version of Kahnle...but much easier said than done. Sale can finally breathe a sigh of relief, pitch the bottom of the 5th, and get another win. -

Might want to start looking at the scouting reports on Travis about right now... -
When's the last time a "true" or least projected 2B (like Hiura) went in the Top 10-12 picks in the first round? Who the hell is Warmoth? Is Law just trying to be a contrarian with all of his notes about the White Sox? Sign him for peanuts and then allocate the rest of the money to guys at #2/3/4/5???

MLB Gameday showed a strikeout for Davidson before he even came to the plate. Very prescient. 99 pitches, 10 hits, 2 walks and 8 strikeouts. ERA all the way up to 2.81. -

Avi Garcia not giving up competing with the AL Batting Crown quite yet. Sale at 95 pitches... going to be a huge struggle to gut out another inning with so many high duress pitches, but he has the bottom half of the order to deal with. -

QUOTE (fathom @ May 30, 2017 -> 07:53 PM) Just think of getting Robert as the consolation Cue Eddie Butler shutout coming... Have to credit Maddon to sticking with Schwarber at the top of the order...assuming it eventually pans out. The White Sox never were able to show that kind of patience with their young hitters, but having won the WS last year really takes at least 50% of the pressure they would be under this year had they lost to the Indians. -

1:40 for the first three innings...yikes. Paging Rob Manfred. I guess the concessionaires are happy? What's the weather/crowd like tonight? Full lower bowl? SI might have been right about the Astros for 2017. They're about to be 21 games over .500 and it's not even 1/3rd of the way into the season. Remember when the 2006 White Sox were 26 games over .500 at the All-Star Break? It's crazy how well the Stros are playing. Now the whole predicted part about matching up with the Cubs in the WS...not sure about that one. -
So you're back to Second Amendment issues, moral/religious reasons (such as abortion and the Supreme Court)...military defense/foreign policy arguments. Obviously, immigration and terrorism as well, this election cycle, not only in the US but all around the world. The funny thing is that most pundits always argue "it's the economy, stupid!" but that was not the case in 2016 or 2000 or Clinton and Gore both would (at least SHOULD) have won quite easily.
