OTOH, with the exception of Bellinger/Judge/Josh Bell/Happ....all those hugely hyped "franchise/untouchable" position players like Dansby Swanson, Bregman, Trea Turner, Schwarber, Renfroe/Hedges, Gurriel, O.Arcia, Russell, O.Herrera, A.Garcia, Odor and Buxton have struggled mightily. Even Leury is outhitting Benintendi, fwiw. -

Randall Delgado, RH pitcher, for the DBacks tmrw. Wonder why no Davidson, guess they're HOPING AND PRAYING FOR FRAZIER resurgence and that take precedence since Matt isn't going anywhere. -

With Santana and Berrios looking dominating, the Twins look like they're going to be competitive, blanked 0's (Bundy) tonight and 6 games over .500 for the first time in the season. Of course, two years ago they were 8-12 games over .500 for most of the year before collapsing. But that's getting little from Dozier and almost nothing offensively from Buxton, who still maintains a TON of defensive value. -

One package is going to be Herrera/Cain...or separately, if necessary (Herrera through 2018, Cain a FA). Moustakas. Hosmer has restored most of his value after starting out ice cold. Vargas is the best rental LH on the market, I read where he's given up something like 6 runs in 7 starts (with the exception of the runs he's surrendered in two games against the Yankees). Soria, although his contract is even worse than Robertson's. That's not even considering they blow things up and try to dump Kennedy (unlikely) and Duffy (possible, because of his attractiveness and injury history). If Gordon, Soler and Modesi, Jr., are all busts, there's really no way for them to compete going forward. Which means they might trade their very best piece in Salvador Perez in his prime, but that would be s Defcon 4 move for Dayton Moore. Hopefully they get close to .500 and CLE doesn't run away, leaving the "one last shot with all these guys" scenario in place to prevent massive rebuilding. -
Yeah, Chris Beck would be another one, from where he started on draft lists. Let's say (for the moment) we're being pessimistic and Giolito/Fulmer end up in the pen...and Q is traded (assume at least one of those guys coming back is probably another pitcher). That leaves Rodon (iffy until proven otherwise), Shields (until traded), Reynaldo Lopez, Kopech and ??? as the 2018 rotation. Dunning and Hansen are at least another year away. God knows what happens with Covey. Or Adams.

Moustakas with his 11th homer now, sporting a 780 OPS. You can bet Boston has him as their #1 3B target (not to mention post-season experience as well). Frazier has to at least be above 700 to start picking up some real interest. -
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 23, 2017 -> 07:27 PM) I was the first & only potential GOP candidate to state there will be no cuts to Social Security, Medicare & Medicaid. Huckabee copied me. That's even more ironic considering his daughter is one of twos candidates, along with Karen Guilfoyle from FOX NEWS, to replace Spicer. You can bet it will come up again if she is named WH Press Secretary.

Just asking if all these posters were around and following Sox baseball in the 2000-2004 time frame when KW was such a lightning rod? Maybe I'm getting old/er, but this new generation of Sox fans online, most of them don't have long memories about all the history in that particular relationship. And saying someone COULD be a 3-4 WAR CFer, how is that any different from say, Luis Alexander Basabe, another player on the outside of the Top 100 lists...which is apparently where Law wants to place Robert. It doesn't make any sense with Badler saying he could go anywhere from 1st through 10th depending on the team (if he was in the June draft, most advanced high school bat, the words of the scouting director that he was the best talent on the planet, Heyman saying he would go #1 overall).....how could he not even be in the Top 100? And Tatis is #47 on the Law list when he's not on the BA Top 100 at all, right? Or, if he is, he's very high.
-
It's hard to imagine, deep down, that Law still doesn't hold some animosity towards Kenny Williams...especially since KW almost ended up taking a job with the Blue Jays, and is still theoretically calling most of the "big" shots in Chicago. Maybe he's "neutral" or slightly positive about Hahn, but that doesn't override his visceral KW disdain dating back to the Sirotka/Wells trade.

QUOTE (SoxAce @ May 23, 2017 -> 07:09 PM) Ah. Never even heard his name mentioned in rumors nor is he a prospect. Was wondering where he came from. http://www.milb.com/player/index.jsp?sid=m...itting/2017/ALL An 875 minor league OPS isn't something to sneeze at if you're talking a 4th/5th expendable piece. Obviously, Reed's clearly the better overall prospect, though. But 26 years old this season...I don't know, it's hard to see guys like Delmonico and Danny Hayes clearly surpassing him. Willy Garcia has a lifetime MILB OPS of 727, for example. Granted, Garcia can play the OF, but he's someone like Davidson that you could give at-bats to and see if he can catch fire, heck, just like Avi Garcia this year.

QUOTE (greg775 @ May 23, 2017 -> 07:00 PM) I understand Trump's sentiment, but I agree 'loser' doesn't work here. Even though they are losers. I'd just go ahead and call them assholes, lowlifes. Lowlife fits more than loser. Greg, if this happened while Obama/Clinton was president, you'd be pushing for A LOT more harshness in the response than this...I'm shocked you are not more upset about this whole situation, with the number of young kids and teenagers who died simply exiting a concert (many of them had parents waiting outside to pick them up)...with nails and screws and shrapnel riddling their bodies. (Not to mention your propensity for bringing up similar theatre/movie/concert attacks like the one in Colorado when Batman came out, James whatever his name was). Words like "demon/ic," "monster," "pure evil," "soulless," etc., would be bandied back and forth. And do you still believe they shouldn't be publicizing details about the killer, his family, his origin...glamorizing violence "mass murders"? Does it matter if they're non-American, vs. homegrown terrorism? Muslim?

That's yet ANOTHER way for Trump to lose all his moderate voters. Declare war on drugs. The irony is that there's less and less funds available for treatment/counseling for those with opiod addictions so we can give the 1%er's and multi-national corporations lots of tax breaks. What's the #1 question with any policy proposal? Is it good for Trump voters in the Rust Belt, and why? Or maybe Trump simply doesn't understand they're all extra-judicial "murders" based on scant hearsay evidence, rumors, accusations...and mostly about political revenge by the Duterte Blackshirts.

QUOTE (DirtySox @ May 23, 2017 -> 06:21 PM) I think Faedo is the type of pitcher/player that would thrive in the White Sox organization. Remember, he was largely considered to be the first pitcher off the board not too long ago. With pitching I like to give the White Sox the benefit of the doubt. Kendall though. Wouldn't touch with a 10 foot pole. Especially with the position player track record. NO MORE PITCHERS, PLEASE...pick up some more those of those guys (secondary pieces) in the June/July/August trade market. The pitching equivalents of Nicky Delmonico.

QUOTE (SoxAce @ May 23, 2017 -> 05:53 PM) I'm assuming you meant Whitley? A.J. Reed (just turned 24, AAA) - .276/.379/.454/.832 (14.1% BB, 28.2% SO) Forrest Whitley (19, low A) - 5 GS, 3.60 ERA (2.49 FIP) 20 IP 17 H 8 R 8 ER 4 BB 31 SO (13.95 K/9, 1.80 BB/9) Tyler White, the guy who started off really hot for them in 2016 and then cooled off quickly and played himself off the roster. We don't really need any more 1B/DH types anyway. And as far as the Astros' system goes, one more feather in their cap is that Domingo Santana looks like he's going to be a keeper with the Brewers after struggling out of the gate at the MLB level.

Well, Law fashions himself a foodie and blogs about cuisine all the time, so that might have gotten a response. Should have gone after him with alt-right stuff along the lines of Schilling...that's what got him banned from tweeting by ESPN last year, right?
-
"ONLY" four earned runs for Fulmer, but another ugly start, now two in a row. Happ/Benintendi...but alas, no. Let's just hope we don't hear the words "shoulder" and Rodon again this year, that alone will be a major win at this point.

If Happ can capably play CF, his value increases significantly... Can someone from SoxTalk interview Heyman, Stark, or Peter Bjarkman on the potential of Luis Robert please? From gatewayredbirds....this sounds like the exact reason the White Sox isecto eschew amateur spending, keep in mind this is the StL Post Dispatch Cards' beat writer, normally the Sox newspaper reporters are a bit "softer" on the front office...a lot of fans are saying that "declining" Fowler contract is nuts compared to buying a potential superstar in his early 20's. Short answer: yes. Yes, again. Yes, a dozen times. This was the lesson of a past winter, and its reinforced here for a teenager. So, yes. But here's the difference between this weekend and any winter --- Luis Robert was the kind of elite, hype, huge-watt amateur the Cardinals rarely get their chance at. They, by design don't want to --- because they want to contend, they want to be in the playoffs, they want to draft late in the first round. The stars and money aligned for this to be their shot. And they will say they feel better about spending more than $50+ million on an established player than a prospect. Hold them to that. by Derrick Goold 11:13 AM ReplyPermalink What was the sense around the FO after the latest Cuban sensation opted for life on Chicago's South Side ... Know they go in with a strict-disciple number in line ... but has the market gone so batty that Cardinals are going to have to re-calibrate their fiscal thinking for this market in the future?
-
How are Reed and White doing? Marisnick would be interesting if he had more years of control. Right now, if you want a lefty, renting Jason Vargas or Derek Holland are two of the best bets and won't cost you much. Unless the Rangers add instead of subtract, and hold onto Darvish, the Astros have no threats to deal with in the AL West.
-
Badler never said that, either. He said the White Sox would pick him first, others might disagree...and that his bat was just as if not more advanced than all the high schoolers in the draft (obviously older by one year and a ton of intl competition). He didn't say 11 draft experts would take Hunter Greene and 4 LUIS Robert, etc. Or that the White Sox have made the right call 2/3 times with Cuban signings (Ramirez, Abreu, Viciedo...I suppose you could argue they wanted to sign intl guys like Soler and Fukudome, which would have turned out poorly.)
-
So much for Greg and Rabbit being "the only ones that get picked on" at Filibuster. Reddy gets credit for not playing the persecution complex card and admitting he needs to frame his arguments in a way that would get through to moderates and even a few alt-righters.

QUOTE (2005thxfrthmmrs @ May 23, 2017 -> 01:20 PM) So Tyler Flowers is now hitting .360 with strong BB and K% in over 100 PA for the Braves. Avila was taking in the early season as well...

What happened to Anderson lower with Leury/SANCHEZ closer to the top? Obviously, Saladino's out now and probably would be sitting anyway, but a bit strange with how Timmy rebounded so well around 7th. -
How does he typically feel about the Cards, Reds, Astros and Padres? They were supposedly among the strongest suitors, and all willing to expend considerable resources.
