Romero was really good for awhile, then the wheels just came off. Fwiw, watch Happ turn out better than a Benintendi...he can run a lot better than advertised, too.

Sounds like he's following closely in Fred Trump's footprints, minus the GQ profiles and docile "trophy" wife like a Melania or Ivanka that every Saudia Arabian emir fantasizes about.

So simple solution is not allowing any Muslim family to emmigate to the West in the first place in order to prevent their children from radicalizing when limited educational and economic opportunities might raise their ugly heads? -
QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ May 23, 2017 -> 02:17 PM) It's ironic that he shares the same generalization problem that Trump suffers from. All black people are poor gangbangers living in the ghetto, apparently. Don't forget bad hombres, rapists, drug dealers, MS-13 members...some apparently are good people, though he doesn't personally know of any to put in his Cabinet.

Worth noting that Ivanka employs only women at her company. How can it be so profitable if they need to take pregnancy leave, lol? All the posters here in this thread need to do is watch The Wire from beginning to end, The 13th (documentary by Ada Duvernay) and teach in an inner city public school in the US and get back so we can have a real discussion. Every post in this thread sounds like it was written by Muck Mulvaney or someone who'd just read all the Ayn Rand books. It's amazing that the connection between systemic discrimination against Native Americans, Hispanic Americans and African Americans isn't clear, starting with discriminatory housing/redlining policies exemplified by none other than Fred Trump. Separate was never equal...and inner city/public education is worse now than it was in 1954 when Brown vs. Board of Education was announced by the SCOTUS. I teach nine students in the same school here in China that are all going to Oxford or Cambridge...whose parents on average pay $200k for their education before they even go to the US or England. American students don't stand a chance when those kids in China, India, South Korea and Singapore are working twice as hard and at school or training centers for English every weekend/summer and typically not leaving middle school classrooms until 9-10 pm. For every Ben Carson, whose book Gifted Hands led to Myron Rolle, NFL player and now surgeon...there's a long line of kids whose mostly single mothers (go back to incarceration rates directly impacting African and Hispanic Americans) could not dream of providing those opportunities if not for athletic scholarships kicking in to subsidize costs. Loans for going to university or housing near a decent school? Hard to get. Bad or no credit? Payday loans or even loan sharks. Rinse, cycle and repeat. Everything works in a cycle, and that cycle has been turning against these groups since Reagan's first term in office. Not coincidentally, the US income gap has been widening that entire time, further exacerbating the differences which are largely borne by the poor and drug/opioids addicted. Final assignment, Picketty's book Capital in the 21st Century. Zinn's Peoples' History of the US. Then actual conversation can start to occur. Or we can simply track all those in Appalachia, farmers in the Midwest and former Rust Belt factory workers in OH, PA, MI, WI and IA and look at their children's outcomes compared to the previous two generations that still believed in a little something called the American Dream and American Exceptionalism. Actually, John F. Kennedy and his brother might have been the last two political leaders to hold out a beacon of hope for all the minority communities we've been talking around.

It's all predicated on 3-4% GDP growth, repatriating lost corporate profits (despite cutting baseline tax rates on them) and apparently everyone in America working under orders from Mulvaney...maybe he he thinks he can cast a spell and order American corporations to provide all those underskilled/undereducated/outsourced workers jobs like he's Merlin the Magician.

http://www.insideradio.com/people_moves/ma...ee01fa52dd.html 16 years... CBS Radio sports “The Score” WSCR (670) Chicago producer/anchor Matt Abbatacola leaves the station after 16 years. According to Chicago media reporter Robert Feder, Abbatacola was passed over earlier this year for the co-host position with Dan Bernstein when Terry Boers retired in January. That position went to midday host Jason Goff who is now paired with Bernstein in afternoons. “The Score” operations manager Mitch Rosen confirmed Abbatacola’s exit telling Feder, “I wish him nothing but the best.”

From yahoo board this morning...scary AND sad https://finance.yahoo.com/news/message-trum...-022438684.html I worked in corporate America from 1975-2012, 50-60 hours a week. I was let go in March 2012 because I wouldn?t cover up a product defect (electrical fires). Since March 2012 I have had 3,432 emails regarding jobs in every part of the USA. I have gone on interviews from Miami to Seattle and had 10 job offers that I accepted and then they were all rescinded once the company found out my birthdate (55-59). I have been using the money I saved to live on while continuing to look, for 5 f*cking years. How many of you have 5 years of savings laying around to live on? A year ago, I moved from Ecuador where I was preserving my savings to a Medicaid Expansion state to help me with my medical bills for a heart condition, diabetes, and respiratory illness?while I keep looking. So, when someone tells me, after working 37 years, they are going to take away medical support and that I should just go get a job, that is pretty damn pompous, nave and gutless. Did you know that even Walmart and Home Depot want a year or two of experience in retail to start at minimum wage? I had no plans to retire 10 years early. I would be ecstatic to land a job. I suggest you realize that some people on Medicaid or food stamps (Snap) are not the low lives you think we are. We don't all have 7 babies, or spend our days smoking crack in our trailer parks. And I would be happy to show anybody any day the attempts I make every day to get a job. If everything goes as the republican's plan, some of us are going to snap from the pressure of no job, no medical and less and less money and then we are going to load up that Glock 9mm and before we escape all the #$%$ we are going to wreak havoc on those who belittle our misfortune. QUOTE (SouthSide2004 @ May 23, 2017 -> 06:21 AM) Good god dude you are one arrogant dude. What does any of that have to do with being a straight white male? The only thing your privilege has allowed you to do is become a full time social justic warrior and part time terrible film maker. The fact you've confused genetically predisposed physical traits like good looks, athletic abilities, & singing voice with privilege shows just how out of touch from reality you are. I think "Reddy privilege" is just a few notches down from Ivanka and Jared Kushner's brother, who's dating Karlie Kloss and was connected to one of the initial groups attempting to buy the Marlins from Loria. She just snaps her fingers and gets a $100 million donation from Saudia Arabia and UAE for "women's empowerment." Maybe we can send her around the world to woo aytocratic leaders and slowly but surely pay down the Federal deficit. At any rate, White priviledge is pretty much perfectly encapsulated in Ivanka's two books about "working women." Elizabeth Holmes, who tricked investors out of hundreds of millions with her Theranos start-up, would be another. Chelsea Clinton's husband, who lost his hedge fund clients hundreds of millions if not a billion, etc.

BBC Update at 3 AM 22 dead, including "children" (not sure what age they're using to define that), 59 injured Eyewitnesses described seeing metal nuts and bolts among the debris, and spoke about the fear and confusion that gripped those caught up in the events. If confirmed as a terror incident, it would be the deadliest attack on British soil since the 2005 London bombings, which killed 52 people. http://www.cnn.com/2017/05/23/opinions/man...yyem/index.html Kayyem: Every parent's nightmare -

Who knew, Millennials actually were saving more (travel/eating out/fitness clubs), but not for marriage/children/houses/retirement https://finance.yahoo.com/news/millennials-...-195619131.html But while millennials may be eschewing more traditional financial goals, they’re still focusing on building their savings. This age group, which includes people 18 to 34, is saving more money than any other generation; on average, millennials save 19% of their annual paychecks, compared with 14% for baby boomers and Gen Xers. More than a third (36%) of millennials say they save more than 20% of their paychecks each year. So where does that money go to if it’s not being funneled into retirement accounts? According to the Merrill report, 81% of millennials spend their money on traveling. Eating out and exercising are the two other activities millennials listed before they’d save for retirement. These spending habits point to a shift in the way millennials use their money for personal fulfillment, compared to older generations. Thought this comment was interesting: people are saying well they all live at home with mommy and daddy. ok, fair. BUT most millennials are racked with outrageous student debt, apartments cost a small fortune (except the ones that are rat infested and are deteriorating), and the job market is a disaster overall. there isn't just 25 millennials you know.....it's a huge age group, more than any other generation and they have come into a crisis born out of irresponsibility and greed, not to mention rampant corruption at every level of government (local, state, and federal). so is this generation full of schmucks? yes. but don't even preach at me how the other generations are just amazing specimens that are the ideal role model to follow. so give me a break with that garbage. and if you disagree, then take a look around you at people your own age. yes, you all got your share of losers, criminals, and corrupt dirtbags. but oh, let's just highlight the shortcomings of millennials to deflect the failures of the other generations. let's do that. it's the adult thing to do. not help them out or encourage them. NO. that would take effort. instead let's be loser slobs on an internet comment board and act like they aren't willing to try and become productive citizens in a country that is currently full of turmoil.

Basically, the Swedish HAVE NO WAY TO GO FORWARD WITH THE CASE UNDER THE PRESENT CIRCUMSTANCES At a press briefing on Friday, Sweden's top prosecutor Marianne Ny said that by remaining in the embassy in London Mr Assange had evaded the exercise of the European Arrest Warrant (EAW) that would have seen him extradited to Sweden. She said that under Swedish law a criminal investigation needed to be conducted "as quickly as possible". Sweden did not expect Ecuador's co-operation in formally notifying Mr Assange of the allegations against him, a necessary step in proceeding with the case, she added. But she said: "If he were to return to Sweden before the statute of limitation on this case expires in August 2020, the preliminary investigation could be resumed." She said it was "regrettable we have not been able to carry out the investigation", and added: "We are not making any pronouncement about guilt." ... The plaintiff in the rape case was "shocked" by the decision, her lawyer said, and maintained her accusations against Mr Assange, Agence France-Presse reported.

Nothing will do more to energize Democrats than this budget. Even the investigation pales in comparison to what proposed spending cuts like these mean to the opposition party. With this budget, Democrats gain a very clear understanding of what's at stake if Republicans retain control of Congress and President Trump goes on to finish his term. The risks are not simply about corruption and undermining the reputation of the nation's leadership -- the risks are about serious slashes to basic social programs that Americans depend on. For all the rhetoric about which party cares more about struggling Americans, punitive cuts such as these make it more difficult for Republicans to claim the high ground. Today, President Lyndon Johnson must be shedding some tears from his grave. As he watches President Trump attempt to go even further than President Ronald Reagan on dismantling the welfare state, he would be deeply saddened given his understanding of what these kinds of programs meant to "middle America." Medicaid and Medicare were not about providing government "handouts," nor where they about accepting some sort of nanny state. The programs were designed to ensure that all Americans had basic access to health care so that they could be good citizens and participate in the marketplace. Our current President is moving in the opposite direction, and this budget indicates what his real priorities are despite all the bluster from the campaign trail. The problem for President Trump is that this budget, coming when it does in this presidency, might end up being more a part of his undoing than his triumphant political success. http://www.cnn.com/2017/05/22/opinions/tru...izer/index.html

May 22nd Game Thread: ChiSox @Arizona D-backs

CF is the obvious 2nd position for Anderson. He's not enough of a power hitter for 3rd. I'd probably choose 2B as the 3rd option, because that's the most natural progression for players moved off that position. That said, the same issues he has at SS (THIS YEAR) wouldn't change much at another position, he'd just have more margin for error because of the closer distance to first. The other thing is that a lot of Anderson's mistakes can be "fixed" by having an Erik Hosmer type of glove over there. 12th draft pick still. 5 1/2 ahead of Padres, 2 1/2 ahead of Royals....4 games behind the Twins. -

Who's going to play SS for the White Sox if it's NOT Anderson? Saladino's really the only one qualified, he can't hit and he can't even stay healthy. Moncada's a 2B first and 3b, second. Leury Garcia??? Yolmer Sanchez doesn't have the arm. I guess Robert/Anderson/Harper would be pretty good, though... -
http://www.politico.com/story/2017/05/22/t...programs-238696 Trump's Budget Hits His Own Voters (Wisconsin, Iowa, Ohio, PA, MI) Hardest Trump also proposes some of the deepest cuts to agriculture subsidies since Ronald Reagan, squeezing out nearly $50 billion over 10 years. Trump’s budget would drastically cut domestic programs controlled by Congress, slashing $1.7 trillion over 10 years. At the end of the decade, the U.S. would spend nearly twice as much on defense as on other domestic programs. Domestic discretionary spending would be capped at $429 billion per year, below 2004 levels, while military spending soars to $722 billion. And here all along when Trump claims employment rates are great and we're close to full employment due to his amazing policies that have changed America in just four months: “There’s a certain philosophy wrapped up in the budget and that is — we are no longer going to measure compassion by the number of programs or the number of people on those programs,” White House Office of Management and Budget Director Mick Mulvaney, one of the budget’s chief architects, told reporters on Monday. “We’re not going to measure our success by how much money we spend, but by how many people we actually help.” Mulvaney rejected accusations that Trump’s budget unfairly targets the poor, arguing instead that it amounts to a broad rethink of the country’s welfare system. “We need folks to work. We need people to go to work. If you’re on food stamps, and you're able-bodied, we need you to go to work. If you’re on disability insurance and you're not supposed to be, we need you to work,” he added. “There’s a dignity to work, and there’s a necessity to work.” Compassionate Conservatism...IT'S GONE!!!

http://m.mlb.com/news/article/231817418/ro...-over-phillies/ Speaking of "Western" Coast, Jeff Hoffman with an impressive debut for the Rockies. His name has come up a ton in the last 2-3 years, especially draft threads. Late game rally doesn't seem in the cards for tonight, but stranger things have happened this season (so far). Looks like this game is pretty much over, though. Gonzalez would be the loser of his fifth straight, right? -
