QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Nov 4, 2015 -> 01:15 PM) Jonny Gomes was never in the 2005 White Sox clubhouse. Geoff Blum did not play in the deciding WS game either. Yes, I realize it was the previous extra inning game, lol. The point is that bench players and even those not on the active roster can still play a role.

White Sox decline option on Alexei Ramirez
caulfield12 replied to Whisox05's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Sanchez and Saladino might be average or competent at SS, but their defense won't be enough to offset their offensive weaknesses at that position. If they really believed that, they could or should have played either one of those guys there (especially Saladino, who lost playing time down the stretch) instead of Ramirez over the final month. -
On the state-wide levels and governorships, a complete disaster. Look at the comments from the Dem losers in KY vis a vis the national party/Obama and being out of touch. Pretty blistering. More than just sour grapes. Because of Obama for eight years and now with Clinton the presumptive winner (by many), there seems to be a nonchalant attitude about all of this.

Gomes didn't even play in the post-season. Supposedly, he spent all the time on the bench motivating Dyson and Colon that they would make an impact in the deciding game, not unlike Willie Harris and Blum a decade earlier off the bench.

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Nov 4, 2015 -> 01:01 PM) English is so confusing I can understand why people from there don't spend a lot of their time learning a language that they're finding so difficult. That's not so uncommon. One of our mods makes the same mistake with their quite a bit as well. I think LDF has explained his language/grammatical issues quite a few times already. Don't know very many native English speakers who get all the Spanish verbs correct in all their various tenses and forms, either.

White Sox decline option on Alexei Ramirez

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 4, 2015 -> 12:54 PM) Steven Drew just got a five million contract from the Yankees last year after hitting in the .100's for two different teams in 2014. JJ Hardy turned a .682 OPS into a 3 year deal pushing $40 million. Alexei was .642 this season, and still a way better defender. Kendrys Morales didn't exactly kill off the value of the 30 something crowd, either. Or look at how much longer Torii Hunter was effective from an offensive standpoint than anyone expected. For every Victor Martinez (who quite a few still wanted to sign) or Chone Figgins, there's always going to be some bargains...look no further than the changes in our roster from 2004 to 2005. Heck, people are talking about Mr. Defensively-Challenged Murphy of the Mets getting $10-12 million and even upwards of $15 million at second base, a seemingly less important position. Alex Rios got $11 million and an option year at roughly the same age and relative production positionally... -
White Sox decline option on Alexei Ramirez
caulfield12 replied to Whisox05's topic in Pale Hose Talk
If he gets less than Bonifacio or Keppinger recently received (for basically doing nothing) to play SS everyday for the White Sox this year, it will be shocking. Wonder how well that would sit staring at an older LaRoche on the bench making 3 times as much (sitting against lefties) and basically contributing little while he's playing the most important position on the entire field, along with catcher? -
White Sox decline option on Alexei Ramirez

QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Nov 4, 2015 -> 12:34 PM) I agree. I could see him coming back at 1 year $5 mil. That's close to or less than Bonifacio. No way he accepts that type of blow to his pride. It has to be in the $6.5-8.5 million range for two years. A lot of conjecture that Desmond will get significantly more than that, but probably not from us. -
With DeAza, Viciedo and possibly Alexei now gone, who are the Hispanic players they would be having trouble communicating with? Those were the ones mostly commonly accused of having low baseball IQs, along with Rios and the whole loafing issue, but that was more under Ozzie. Abreu and Avi Garcia seem to deal with language issues fairly well. Maybe Carlos Sanchez or Montas? Rodon obviously grew up in the States. Nieto isn't really part of the picture now, and they probably don't care about Leury Garcia so much.

http://www.kansascity.com/sports/spt-colum...le42798258.html Amazing crowds for such a small city. http://www.kansascity.com/sports/spt-colum...le42767697.html Best story... http://deadspin.com/jonny-gomes-gives-obno...ch-a-1740372685 I guess Gomes has a future in pro wrestling, politics or motivational speaking.

Much like the Cubs did before hiring Renteria, the White Sox want a baseball man who has a great resume. Part of the requirements would be a bench coach who would speak fluently to both the English- and Spanish-speaking players in the organization. The White Sox have used translator-media relations assistant Billy Russo to help with communication with Spanish-speaking players over the past two seasons. The front office finally came to the conclusion that a top Spanish-speaking figure was needed. The new bench coach will help with the day-to-day communication with all the players and members of the staff. The White Sox interviewed former player Raul Ibanez near the end of the 2015 season for a coaching position. They also reached out to Indians first-base coach coach Sandy Alomar Jr., who thanked the White Sox but declined an interview. Now experience and communication skills are suddenly important?

The problem there is spending $12 million for a declining veteran who has about five percent probability of being better in 2017-19 when they will most need him. That move is all-in for this year, then you need to deal with the majority of other major roster issues as well. 2b is the one area we have some young depth, albeit with uncertain upside.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Nov 3, 2015 -> 04:58 PM) I am at a loss for how someone could support Kasich, Rubio and Sanders. Support might not be the right word. Resigned to Hillary, just because I don't believe she has inspirational qualities. That said, blind hope and inspiration isn't enough to get things done, either. There has to be some pragmatism and compromise and realism. Ms. Clinton in many ways is well suited for that particular environment. But getting past gridlock, vast right wing conspiracies and finding the Tea Party on her side...absolutely zero chance of that happening with all the baggage from the past she and her husband carry. My biggest reason is the Clinton Foundation has become a personal wealth vehicle (along with a plethora of well compensated speeches)...it's nothing close to pure charity, and, although you can certainly find fault with, for example, Gates' Foundation and mission of spreading MS gospel, it's still 50-75% closer to the mark.

QUOTE (DrunkBomber @ Nov 2, 2015 -> 11:30 AM) What does this have to do with the topic of this thread though? I was responding to jerksticks. At any rate, the war in this thread has temporarily ended with essentially two teachers looking at both sides of this latest incident. Personally, I have issues with obviously unarmed teens being assaulted in Plano or this particular situation...and the main argument being they're somehow equally responsible or culpable for over the top reactions of adult male officers in these situations. If those were daughters or nieces instead of random strangers, would they choose the same exact course/s of action?

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Nov 2, 2015 -> 01:55 PM) Hillary with Bernie being the full blown socialist. And I'm saying this from caufield stance with his pure liberal frame of mind and pointing out the main base of the repub's would imply what I just typed about Bernie / Hillary. And I've also said at times this election cycle I would prefer Kasich, Rubio and possibly even Christie (but no more Bushes). Sanders on the Dem side, but that's just about the equivalent of Jesse Jackson in 1988 of actually happening. By not challenging her in the last debate, he demoted himself to continuous protest candidate, like Santorum over the last decade but with broader appeal and acceptance in his party.

Actually demented is more about mental state of mind/bearing than physical appearance. Questioning her stability...and poise, not her worthiness to be selected for America's Next Top Model. The funny thing to me is that any woman who's even halfway or moderately attractive like Sarah Palin or Ann Coulter suddenly finds herelf a superstar in the GOP ranks.

Why would Alomar want to manage the White Sox unless their roster gives him at least the opportunity to compete? I'd rather disprove the theory that Dave Martinez can't manage first. How many times has he interviewed or suppposedly been a top candidate during the past decade?

WS 2016 LAD 1st, Cubs 2nd, KC tied for 11th, Sox tied 18th
caulfield12 replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 3, 2015 -> 09:10 AM) KC's roster is about to take a gut punch in free agency. Cueto for sure, good riddance. Zobrist, Madson, Chris Young...those will hurt, along with Greg Holland. They weren't paying a dime for either Cueto or Zobrist, however. Guthrie and Rios will clear more payroll space. Medlen's 50/50 with a $10 million option. However, they're still roughly at a roughly $90 million payroll. Keeping Gordon would put them right back around this year's $111-112 million. My gut says they come in around $124-128 million for next season. Without Gordon, $35 million to spend and Zobrist then becomes Target 1A. They will also get Jason Vargas back sometime next summer. Perhaps they can dump part of Infante's remaining two years, but not easily. -
Obama for bench coach. Two lame ducks.

Nationals screw over Bud Black, hire Dusty Baker
caulfield12 replied to Buehrle>Wood's topic in The Diamond Club
I thought it was $1.6 million per year for two seasons, then club options. Pretty ridiculous not to offer AT LEAST three. -
Leading to Soler, Baez and Schwarber as their main trade pieces as usual. Always throwing in some names from the 10-20 list instead of a Torres, McKinney, Edwards, Jimenez, etc. Can Almora can still be marketed like 2 years ago, not so much...pretty much the same as arguing Courtney Hawkins is a potential 35/40 homer bat.

Quintana/Adams for....the steal deal of the century (love those 4-6 for 1-2 plans they come up with) mlbtraderumors Cubs get a solid pitcher in quintana and a potential stud in spencer who has a ways to go before making his MLB debut seeing as he’s only like 19 years old (at LEAST 2 years away…. more likely 3-4). Sox get the young position prospects they DESPERATELY need. They get a better SS in Castro over having to keep worse Alexei Ramirez…. regardless what Sox fans say. Castro’s down year this year is not too far off a typical Ramirez year. They also get a HR masher in Vogelbach who has superb plate discipline to play 1B/DH with Abreu. They get a solid hitting catching prospect in Zagunis. They get a gold glove in waiting in Almora who scouts say could hit about .280 or better and develop into a 20 HR hitter…… especially playing in US Cellular. And I’ll throw in pierce johnson as a toss in. Projects to be a 3-4 starter if he pans out. Cough up 1 ML pitcher and a pitching prospect for 4 players who could address almost all the Sox weaknesses on offense within 2 years. It at least gives you positional prospect hope. Looked at the top position prospects the Sox have listed on their website……. it’s pretty ugly. This hypothetical trade is more than fair imo. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2015/10/offs...hite-sox-6.html

http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/eye-on-baseball/25361575 First of many articles predicting the offseason. Puig has 7-8 teams listed as trade possibilities and not one of them is the Sox. Btw, signing Granderson two tears ago when his splits were so pronounced and Yankee Stadium short porch aided seemed a bit nuts...felt like he was on a big decline. That said, the current numbers are coming from the relatively weaker NL. Cueto is projected at $40 million and one year less than when he was traded to KC. Royals predicted to keep Gordon but not Zobrist as well.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Nov 2, 2015 -> 11:23 PM) I agree. The champagne celebration should not be done until winning the ALCS and NLCS and again after the WS. Why celebrate just making the playoff wild card game? Dumb. Also the goggles have to go and they should have raincoats available and helmets for all media members. They have a job to do not to have their clothes ruined several times per year. This is reminding me of the Greg's Excellent Suit Buying Adventure.
