  1. Please fire Ron Jeremy, too. While we are on a roll of corporate bloodletting.
  2. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Nov 6, 2015 -> 11:18 PM) Haha you think this board is too optimistic? A very large portion of posters have basically given up on the next 5 seasons. I see way more pessimism than optimism. Not speaking in generalities about the entire board. Just the idea of judging others for their attitudes, attendance, basically all the aspects of how they follow the team...and then relating that back to blaming the fans for being stuck in a non-compete cycle because they're 1) too afraid to do a teardown and complete rebuild OR 2) too conservative/cautious to spend (let's call it investing for a future rate of return) 15-25% over budget for a couple of years and dump bad contracts in order to recoup that money 2 or 3 times over in 2019 with the negotiation for a new broadcasting rights package. So we're basically stuck in that $120-130 "dead zone" where we're not terrible but not terribly competitive either due to overall weaknesses in the farm system in terms of position player replacements. There are no easy answers if you look at the position they're in, despite many arguing last year's free agents misses and Shark wouldn't impact the future.
  3. QUOTE (greg775 @ Nov 6, 2015 -> 10:15 PM) I LOVE his flat tax. Get rid of the gawd-damned IRS!!!!!! Thank you Mr. Carson! So far I'm OK with his position on gun control. Give Americans access to weapons but try to prevent people from geting the semiautomatic stuff. Illini ... my uncle pitched for the U of I and I respect the school and your opinions, but I think you are wrong if you don't believe I need a gun to protect myself in churches, lectures, parades, etc. There are loonie-birds out there wanting me dead! -- He wants to give us $2,000 for health savings accounts and get rid of Obamacare. That won't pass anyway, so I don't know why it matters what I think of it. I don't know if that's a good plan or not. I am appalled by health care in the USA and one of the candidates should tackle the bulls*** costs of staying in the hospital. 50 dollar aspirin still the going rate?? -- His stance on immigration seems ok. Those here illegally can apply for guest worker status if they first leave the country and apply. If not we kick them out. -- I wish he would let everybody buy marijuana not just the people who need it medically. -- No abortions after 20 weeks. That seems good by me. That's five months. The baby is pretty much a functioning human being by then. He said gay marriage is the law but he personally believes marriage should be between a man and woman. I want gay couples to have the same rights as marrieds, but hit me over the head with a hammer if you hate me for it, but I agree with him. I just happen to believe marriage should be between a man and woman. That said like Carson said, the law is the law. I don't begrudge anybody. I just think if God wanted gay marriage there would be a biological way a man could have another man's baby. Again I'm no zealot. I'm not against gay rights. All people are created equal. But the formal idea of marriage?? I think it should be man/woman. Sorry. --His foreign policy stance is aggressive enough for me. Step up efforts to stop the militant groups!!! Thank you Mr. Carson. All in all I think his policies are OK. Sorry if I offended with my marriage answer. I guess I'm a bad person for not believing marriage should be reserved for man/woman unions. Nobody at SoxTalk is attacking you for your beliefs in terms of gay marriage. It's called freedom of religion. Now if you were running for elected office in KS, you would be a fair target...but you know as well as I that it will never pass into law in that state.
  4. If it's written in black and white in your official biography, the only one to blame is your ghostwriter...or the teller of the stories, Carson in this case. He had the right to edit it before it was released.
  5. QUOTE (scs787 @ Nov 6, 2015 -> 09:05 PM) Freese may not be the answer, but really, who is out there that IS the answer? Fraizer is about the only guy out there that might realistically be traded and even he has some downfalls (cost to acquire, time till free agency). The AA or AAA equivalent of Matt Davidson/Olt but with more contact and better defense.
  6. Go for Desmond or play the youngsters. The time for half measures is gone.
  7. Not even Carl Everett compares...to you, Ben Carson.
  8. http://sports.yahoo.com/news/mlb-free-agen...WQDBHNlYwNzYw-- When I say unproven, I meant the lack of history of translating those huge KBO numbers to MLB. Just Choo and now Kang. Essentially the Korean version of Abreu...with a less lofty valuation. Indians, Rays, Cardinals cited here as the best fits or matches, so at least six or seven possible landing spots.
  9. The rumor is the posting fee posting fee and five years, $40 million. If the White Sox weren't stuck with LaRoche they could probably afford $53 million, but that's a lot for someone relatively unproven from the KBO. Yankees are also interested.
  10. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Nov 6, 2015 -> 07:26 PM) We don't need him to be superman. If we could guarantee a 2-2.5 war the next two years out of him, sure. Odds of that actually happening?
  11. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Nov 6, 2015 -> 07:02 PM) Wouldn't be surprised if its the Pirates due to their need at first base. Well, pairing Koreans together should make both more comfortable minus a Dave Martinez/Ryne Sandberg or Avi/Fielder situation...
  12. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 6, 2015 -> 06:44 PM) Beckham was picked 8th and has the 8th highest career WAR of the 46 players considered 1st round picks that year. Not as huge of a miss. Hawkins 13th, appears to be a miss, I will give you that one. Even Dayton Moore misses. Christain Colon 4th ? Chris Sale would have looked nice. Bubba Starling 5th? Sonny Gray might have been able to keep Cueto from having to be acquired and kept the dynamic duo of Duffy and Finegan together forever. Now I am forced to refer you to AFL stats and the fact that Starling's really coming on the last 12-16 months. And, as has been stated here many times, any moves that lead to championships are automatically validated pretty much no matter what the prospects end up doing. Finnegan is having some conditioning issues, and some dealing with coaches as well. At least I was right about Hector Santiago from the first day he pitched in relief against the Twins. Finnegan won't succeed as a starter unless he works on his stamina and secondary pitches.
  13. Last time we checked, Beckham and Hawkins weren't exactly "low" draft picks. The complaint isn't so much about Sale, Anderson, Rodon and Fulmer as it is the wasteland which is all the other rounds the last two decades. They've done decently with pitchers such as Santiago, Reed, Petricka, Erik Johnson, and Nate Jones, but position players are another matter...that we've paid dearly for covering up minor league deficiencies with "buy high for diminished future production" results. The cycle feels endless at this point. One report comparing or linking Shark to Leake or Kazmir (with an agenda to make the Sox look better) isn't any more compelling than not knowing a single fact here. And Honestly, by that line of thinking, we were almost ready to give out the equivalent of a $90-100 million deal to Mike Leake or Scott Kazmir....how disastrous would that have been for Hahn/KW? Talk about poor evaluation. Would those two pitchers also have been projected by the front office to lead the Sox to the second wild card as Hahn intimated staying pat would do at the deadline?
  14. Here we go again. Can we ever have a conversation without feeling the need to insult someone (basically the majority of the site)? Why is it necessary? If we believe the White Sox messed up the Shark situation, and there are plenty of arguments to support that position which are well known and articulated, how does voicing that opinion make you a whiner? Should we preface every retort with Sox Kool Aid drinkers would have us believe they planned the whole thing out in advance to go exactly the way it did?
  15. http://www.newyorker.com/humor/borowitz-re...not-stab-anyone Poor Greg. Let's see how he reacts to this strike at the once-beating heart of Carson, lol.
  16. https://www.yahoo.com/parenting/sexting-con...-175058012.html Schoolwide sexting scandal in Colorado knocks football team out of state football playoff opportunity.
  17. What is the going rate for 2.3 war? It's in the $15-17.5 million range, is it not? And what has Freese averaged in an Angels' uniform? Contracts like that will get a GM fired. He's nowhere close to the final missing puzzle piece for building a playoff team.
  18. QUOTE (shipps @ Nov 6, 2015 -> 05:12 PM) With them getting a comp pick where they are going to get them I can understand why there were some here that were saying it would have been better to get any low level prospect from anyone in a trade last season. Clearly there is a lot of value in getting a pick sandwiched between the first two rounds...like a lot of value. Sure, but historically the odds of getting a career war even close to what the four players we traded isn't going to be more than a 5-10% probability. Not to mention the fact that aforementioned player will be arriving after our new media rights negotiations if he's a high schooler. Sale, Quintana, Abreu, Rodon and Eaton could all be gone by then. Remember, 2017 is supposed to be Year 3 of the current action plan.
  19. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Nov 6, 2015 -> 04:32 PM) He's a very, very good defender and doesn't really have any offensive weaknesses. I do agree that with his age he likely won't be worth the money. Heyward is basically Gordon except 6 years younger. Except for the fact his OPS numbers each year are 100-150 points lower than he was originally projected at. He's not that guy who hits 30-40 bombs or a future/potential superstar. He's a very, very fine all-around player, but worth $200 million? Not to the Sox.
  20. Nor is Heyward worth twice as much, especially because he'll also receive those favorable opt out clauses. Imo, the bigggest fool's gold/paying for offensive potential that likely will never be realized example on the market. Even more than Price and Cueto on the pitching side. Not that it will happen, but taking two of Gordon, Cespedes, Chris Davis, Zimmermann, Cueto, Zobrist (shorter term obviously) or Upton vs. one of those three (or Greinke) is almost always the more pragmatic Cost/Benefit Analysis play. But the White Sox won't be playing that game.
  21. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Nov 6, 2015 -> 01:29 PM) Holy f***, another thread ruined with nonsensical Royals commentary. I appreciate the mods effort to curb it, but it's really starting to get ridiculous. Caulfield, you seem like a very nice & intelligent person, but for the love of God stop derailing every thread with the Royals propaganda. Fair enough. But I also hope we don't have to read a stream of constant criticisms of White Sox fans as a primary excuse for why their team is being run so poorly. Basically, the idea that we should still loyally go out and buy tickets just because of 2004-2006 even though we're now a full decade removed from that time period. Or that we have to adhere to others' conceptions of what is the model or ideal Sox fan. For example, Lip has faced a lot of criticism here for speaking out honestly or in a "dark cloud"/pessimistic way. The idea we have to always be optimistic is equally annoying. If you follow Sox baseball at all, you know he's a true fan. And that's the only thing that matters, or should matter. So, to summarize, I'm happy to praise the front office when they do something well, such as Abreu, Eaton or Rodon. On the other hand, Hahn hasn't provided many reasons for us to trust his baseball instincts, especially as it relates to the coaching staff (or we simply have to believe KW is meddling in every organizational decision and Hahn is willing to accept the same scenario that just drove AA from Toronto). At any rate, the clock is ticking. Back to our topic.
  22. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Nov 6, 2015 -> 03:11 PM) Yeah I'd rather sign Freese than trading for someone else giving up significant pieces. If they were to give him $30-35 million guaranteed for two years (and some in the WAR crowd would justify it, surely), there wouldn't be much joy in Mudville.
  23. Sanders can never win. Very little support outside of white liberals at this point. Two, any American connected to the word socialism is doomed at the national level, or at least critical of the concepts of capitalism. Three, his support of and various meetings with left wing military dictators...the anti-Reagan, essentially. Finally, he proudly honeymooned in Yaroslavl, Russia, during the height on the Cold War. Having been to Yaroslavl myself, it struck me that this alone would be used mercilessly by the GOP in a general election campaign. Sanders is a non-starter, so is Carson. Trump still has a non zero but rapidly closing opportunity.
  24. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 6, 2015 -> 12:22 PM) It's funny, Hawk's a joke if he says something you don't agree with, but you use him as a source when it suits you. I do trust him more as a judge and arbiter of pure baseball talent than Rick Hahn, so there's that.
  25. It was due to all those Phil Rogers articles. Unfortunately it didnt help much with Granderson, Kipnis or Zobrist, three more local products. We did get Shark, though. That was cool until the regular season actually started.
