  1. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jun 7, 2015 -> 06:19 PM) If he doesn't turn it around, I don't think that package is out there. I think people greatly underestimate the value of draft flexibility with multiple 1st rounders. On the other hand, despite how he's pitched (and other front offices are familiar with how bad our defense has been behind him)...he's one of about 5-6 difference makers on the July trade market. And almost every team in baseball this season is legitimately in the playoff race, except for Oakland, Philly, maybe the Marlins and Rockies. Detroit's obviously going to hold onto Price. So who does that leave after Cueto and Hamels? There are 15+ teams looking for pitching and only so much to go around. Maybe the Nationals will trade one of their pitchers, but Samardzija's likely to be one of the top "second tier" pitchers on the market.
  2. QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Jun 7, 2015 -> 06:06 PM) I'm not embarrassed. It's just baseball. I like that we have a bunch of good, young players. We need some more but things are definitely looking up. I even still think we could get hot and make a run at it this year. Melky, wake the f*** up man! We need you! We obviously have the pitching pieces in Sale, Quintana, Rodon, Duke, Robertson...the problem is there's not a single offensive player without a major set of flaws (offense, defense, baserunning, etc.) on the roster. Eaton and Garcia have a lot of potential (still), but neither are "sure things" at this point. I'm a bit more confident in Eaton fwiw. Then there's LaRoche. The problem is that leaves LF, 3B, SS, 2B and catcher as ongoing issues. That's a lot of positions to fix when you are stuck with some contracts like Danks and Cabrera, we still don't have much of a minor league system from which to make trades (and that probably not even being the wise strategy at this point)...the best players are still 1 to 1 1/2 seasons away...and there's not going to be a huge amount of financial flexibility compared to this past off-season.
  3. this time in Dallas/Ft. Worth area (McKinney, TX, very upper class suburb) http://www.cnn.com/2015/06/07/us/mckinney-...lice/index.html The main actions in question start around the 3:00 mark in the video http://www.dallasnews.com/news/community-n...e-relations.ece Dallas criminal defense lawyer Peter Schulte, who was not involved in the incident, said that after viewing the video he was most bothered by the actions Casebolt took in his role as a supervisor. “This is a classic example of how something can escalate out of control very quickly by the actions of the officers, not by what was going on,” said Schulte, a former McKinney officer. Casebolt has been with the department since August 2005, according to his LinkedIn account, which had been deleted Sunday afternoon. He is an instructor trainee at Executive Self-defense and Fitness in McKinney, where his online biography that had been removed listed him as having received in-depth training on impact weapon deployment, handcuffing, pressure point compliance and armed and unarmed self-defense. The biography stated that Casebolt has “a strong working knowledge of human behavior, indicators of deception, criminal behavior, the development of situational awareness and experience in the use of all levels of force.”
  4. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jun 7, 2015 -> 03:52 PM) Lol just no Channing Tatum, Jonah Hill, Franco and Seth Rogen or bust to join forces with Rowand. Matthew McConaughey high on weed with Aaron might be the best...he can join in with the drummer in Cleveland as an added bonus.
  5. QUOTE (SCCWS @ Jun 7, 2015 -> 05:21 PM) I am not talking about players. If Skinner has been able to coach up a mediocre roster, maybe he can breathe some life into the White Sox. Well...that's about as likely to happen as Hoiberg also coaching the White Sox. I've given up hope for any in-season move. If they do go that (internal) route, they'd probably tap Joe McEwing first (with LaRussa's blessing).
  6. QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Jun 7, 2015 -> 02:39 PM) I'd take that with a grain of salt. If I were you, 17 teams are in the mix and that includes the Angels and Yankees who can't sign anyone over 300K. So let's just keep your fingers crossed. Not to mention the Angels and Yankees are in desperate need for young blood offensively...and the Yankees also lost out in the Moncada sweepstakes, that didn't sit well with many.
  7. QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Jun 7, 2015 -> 04:32 PM) I think this happens when the Sox get players from losing organizations or the NL. Losing organizations (see Dunn, Samardzija or Rios), PEDS (Flowers/Cabrera) or the NL in general (LaRoche/Jennings). The "winning player," Jack Peavy, was a shell of his former self for much of his time in a Sox uniform. He spent more time talking about winning than he did beating Detroit even once. There have been some exceptions/anomalies, like David Robertson and Quintana (the Yankees), the Cubans (Ramirez/Abreu, not Viciedo), Keppinger (that was a weird one) and Scott Downs mixed in that defy explanation. Duke's been pretty good for us, too. At least so far.
  8. And please take him off the banner!!! That part of SoxTalk should be reserved for "excellence." For the White Sox, that's Sale and Robertson (the three blown saves are a bit misleading). Abreu shouldn't even be there if he's going to hit more like Plouffe, Hunter or Dozier than an MVP candidate.
  9. QUOTE (SCCWS @ Jun 7, 2015 -> 04:49 PM) I don't think Charlotte has the greatest roster. When we discuss players to be called up to help the White Sox, the options seem limited. Yet Skinner has them playing well with one of the best records in the International League. Maybe there is an internal option should Hahn decide he needs to jumpstart this team. Minor league records (especially the AAA team) aren't that important to the major league operations. The only thing that matters is the development of the legit prospects...winning is probably 10% at most. Now if it's the A teams, rookie ball, AA...depending on the organization, winning percentage becomes a bit more important, especially if the major league team has struggled to put winning teams out on the field. The problem with looking for Charlotte solutions are contract situations like they have with Melky Cabrera and John Danks. If they're willing to bench Cabrera, they still don't have an everyday option in Thompson from everything we've read about him. The front office can tinker with the bullpen mix a bit (Guerra up), but they're unlikely to do much better than Petricka or Putnam pitching as well as they can (see 2014)....for now, the best options there are still Crain or Nate Jones. Catching...that situation has been discussed into the ground. If they felt Nieto or Kevan Smith or Kottaras were better long-term solutions, they would be up. In the short-term, all they can do is risk Beckham slumping offensively by moving him back to 2B...or putting Bonifacio at 2B, in order to jump start the offense. The third option would be signing Everth Cabrera to do what they had hoped Micah Johnson would (except play better defense). The main problem is Beckham isn't raking LHP, he's hitting RHP much better (wiping out the idea of a strict platoon at 3B with Conor)...but somehow they're going to have to play Bonifacio more often for either LaRoche or Cabrera against lefties (for now, it seems they will bench Cabrera and bat Alexei 2nd in those situations). They can't give Sanchez more than another 3-5 games to get his offensive game back on track.
  10. QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 7, 2015 -> 03:02 PM) The Royals bullpen played the first 54 with a 1.75 ERA. That's insane. They blew a 3-0 lead in the 7th (Herrera) but Perez, Davis and Holland bailed them out. Holland now has a 29/30 stretch going in saves converted dating back to last year. Not too bad for such a low draft choice...
  11. We're embarrassed too, Kenny. For even believing in this team coming into spring training.
  12. QUOTE (bobryansson @ Jun 7, 2015 -> 03:09 PM) Nice summary. #1 Easily fixable. A manager can make a difference. See Minnesota. #2 should be on the bench and #7 should go over there. #3 I think is hurt more than we know and also "sophomore slump." #4 Don't see a fix. Decide if Micah can ever play the field of Sanchez can ever hit and then ride out out with fingers crossed. #5 Gone in July (I hope.). #6 Tough fix. Lower end starters look worse with top end not living up to expectations and with no offense. Not enough MLB pitchers anywhere. #7 See #3 above. #8 I don't see an answer at catcher. Maybe they'll draft the guy Stone wants. That'll help in 2019. #9 I don't see an answer at third. Maybe... Er... Ummm... Beckham until Davidson? They're going to be forced to move Beckham back to 2b or play Bonifacio there...no choice.
  13. If Seattle beats TB, we're looking up at every team in the AL but Oakland. And the Astros just got swept by Toronto, so they're going to come in with something to prove after losing 2/3 last time.
  14. QUOTE (harkness @ Jun 7, 2015 -> 02:56 PM) 1. Robin Ventura is nice guy, great sense of humor - not a MLB manager. 2. Melky... WTF is going on. 3. Abreu... decent but his last two bats today were jokes. 4. .145 avg 2nd basement. 5. Shark... I really hate him at the moment he was great against the sox ... now we get him and he is a steaming pile. 6. Danks and Noesi are meat... 7 Avi has potential... but his approach is childish at the plate like many of our hitters. We don't coach like pros, we don't play like pros, we don't look like pros.. From top to bottom. 2nd basement? Good play on words, albeit perhaps unintentional. Statistically, that position has to rank last in the majors unless its Utley. And everything Avi contributes offensively, he cancels out on the defensive side.
  15. Samardzija just hasn't had the command or dominance in the strike zone with his fastball. That kills you even when you get ahead in counts because everyone's looking hard stuff. Essentially, everything's either a fastball or splitter/slider....he's like Rodon without the pretension of throwing or learning how to throw a change. For some reason, he really got away from his slider in that horrible sequence to Cepedes, Collins and Martinez. After those three at-bats, you just knew it was over and Soria wasn't going to blow another save. Every team that plays us and enters in a funk gets healthy or goes on a run....the Royals, then the Twins, now Cleve and Detroit. Predictable as clockwork. Hopeless right now to go any type of extended run to get back in it.
  16. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Jun 7, 2015 -> 01:45 PM) We are facing a RHP. Robin said a few days ago Alexei would hit 2nd against lefties. Great job 2-3-4 hitters! Abreu's hit into some tough luck this weekend...deserves to have 2-3 more hits.
  17. This has the feeling now of a must-win with how poorly they've played in the last couple of innings...letting the Tigers hang around is dangerous with our bullpen so erratic before the back end. Big inning coming up for Samardzija here.
  18. Another just awful at-bat not moving Eaton to third. Ridiculous. He should have bunted on his own to do something productive.
  19. QUOTE (Condor13 @ Jun 7, 2015 -> 01:30 PM) Man somethings gotta happen with second base. If the Sox start hitting then we can live with Sanchez at 2B, but if we don't we gotta bring back micah. A .150 hitter who is bad on the base paths (cannot steal bases) gives or offense nothing. And doesn't walk....the Tigers' announcers are pretty incredulous we're trying to compete this year without trying a veteran like Everth Cabrera at this point at 2b. With Catcher, LF and 2b....we have to be bottom 2-3 in the majors for three positions. Not even above-average from the other six players can outperform that, and Alexei's close to being that level of terrible as well.
  20. White Sox don't need better coaching and preparation....because we're winning.
  21. More great baserunning...Iglesias very fortunate Soto was the one running the way he played that. God...we suck at stealing bases. Guess it's not the worst thing in the world to start all over with Eaton, but...
  22. That's a typical half inning for the White Sox defensively. Both teams with mental and physical mistakes.
