QUOTE (JoshPR @ May 21, 2015 -> 07:19 PM) Avi's terrible with men on... Up until these last three games, he was actually one of our most "clutch" hitters with RISP....

Herm worked nine years as head athletic trainer for Ponce in the Puerto Rican Winter League. Schneider earned his bachelor’s degree in sports medicine from Monroe Community College in Rochester, N.Y., in 1975. He served as assistant athletic trainer for the Yankees during their World Championship years of 1977 and 1978 before joining the Chicago White Sox as head athletic trainer in 1979. In 2003, Schneider was an athletic trainer for the Major League Baseball All-Star Game in Chicago’s U.S Cellular Field. He also served as an athletic trainer for the All-Star Game in 1977, 1983 and 1991, and along with his assistant, Mark Anderson, received the 1996 “Major League Baseball Athletic Training Staff of the Year Award.” Schneider serves as a board member for the Deicke Center for Visual Rehabilitation and lives in Naperville, Ill., with his wife, Janet, and their two children, Daniel and Caitlin. Well, I learned three things, born in the Netherlands....speaks Spanish very fluently...worked for the Yankees/Steinbrenner during the "Reggie Bar" days. http://pbats.com/chicago-white-sox/

QUOTE (oldsox @ May 21, 2015 -> 07:13 PM) How long has Herm been with the Sox? About as long as Roger Bossard, and longer than Cooper...30+ years?

QUOTE (oldsox @ May 21, 2015 -> 07:08 PM) Face it, Caulfield. You're hooked. You are not a casual fan. You're an addict. You're screwed. You'll be this way decades from now. LOL. And thus goeth the fate of White Sox fans from the time they're hooked. A lot of suffering only surpassed (for now) by Cubdom. And no, I'm not going to treat fans of teams like the Padres, Rangers, Nationals, Mariners, etc., as "long suffering" by any definition. Perhaps the Indians' fans can give the Cubs a battle, though.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 21, 2015 -> 07:06 PM) It's not only hindsight it's an extra $120 million. Those 2 are under contracts for more than the White Sox spent last offseason entirely. For some reason, I thought Cruz hadn't signed a 4 year deal. It's closer to $90 million than $120 (differential if you subtract Melky's deal), but still not tenable for the White Sox.

On the plus side this week, the White Sox will be able to hire Dan Jennings soon. One would think he'd have a very difficult time (psychologically) going back to the GM position in that organization after being quickly canned as the manager.

QUOTE (oldsox @ May 21, 2015 -> 06:59 PM) Hey, he's hitting .250 or so; he can still play. Obviously, it's hindsight....but Russell Martin/Nelson Cruz instead of Melky/Bonifacio and we're still a contending team.

5/21 Gamethread: White Sox vs Indians 7:10 CT CSN
The worst aspect is JUST when the fans were starting to believe the team COULD be a playoff contender...AND, playing at HOME where they have actually performed well this season, they just flat out are laying an egg again. It's like, at least for the casual fans, "here we go, been there...done that...this team will bounce back and forth around the .500 mark, probably below it...not a terrible team but not a contending team and not one that's worthy of my support or emotional investment." Purgatory.

5/21 Gamethread: White Sox vs Indians 7:10 CT CSN
The other bad aspect of this is pulling the Indians right back into the race. If this score holds up, the Indians will only be two games out of 4th and some badly needed forward momentum. Conversely, if the White Sox had gone 3-1 or 4-0 against them, they would have been 10-12 games under .500 and pretty much out of it.

Nelson Cruz, hitting a .351 that obviously won't stand up for 4 more months...probably the best signing of the off-season, not that it's helping Mariners lead their division because of Cano's pedestrian stats and troubles in the starting rotation (Iwakuma/Walker).

2015 AL Central Thread
Preston Tucker (brother Kyle's in the June draft, everyone loves his swing) of the Astros just drilled his first MLB homer (opposite field even) to tie the game at 5-5 in the top of the 9th at Comerica. Soria's first blown save of season...also a rare blown 5-0 lead from the 7th inning on. Houston really seems to have something good going on with that team. Will be interesting to see if they can sustain it all season without making some trades to shore up weaknesses. Cespedes was stranded at 3rd (and no outs) in the previous half inning...

QUOTE (Jerksticks @ May 21, 2015 -> 05:16 AM) Forgive me if this has been discussed, but are all these Hillary quotes true I just read somewhere? I think they came from people that worked on Clinton's staff etc. They make her sound like a horrible human being. Just looking for the real scoop on all that. Thanks, D. Source? Quotes in question??

QUOTE (fathom @ May 20, 2015 -> 09:51 PM) Starting pitching has really picked it up, but still way too many defensive miscues (Jennings throwing it away cost Sox the game) and offense is still struggling to put together good at bats. Oh well, let's split the series tomorrow. "Oh well" sounds like the perfect marketing slogan/tagline for Sox fandom these days.

2015 MLB Catch-All Thread
This writer at least has a sense of humor. In unveiling a new lineup, new manager Dan Jennings talked about discovering a formula that would work, one that would be a home run on par with Kentucky Fried Chicken. “I’m sure the Colonel tried a lot of recipes before he came up with the secret one for the chicken,” Jennings said before the Marlins took the field Wednesday night to face Arizona. “So we’re going to hopefully keep working it until we find ours.” Perhaps it needs more spice. Or additional time in the oven. Not only did the Marlins remain lifeless at the plate, but the pitching was poor and they allowed the aggressive Diamondbacks to control the base paths by allowing six stolen bases — including a steal of home — to equal a franchise record for most allowed in a game. That figure could grow to seven stolen bases, pending a ruling by the official scorer. “Needless to say, you’ve to improve your focus and control the running game better at this level, and it’ll be addressed,” Jennings said. “It’s frustrating because that team’s taking advantage of things that they see and have advance scouted as weaknesses.” The Marlins, who came within one out of being no-hit on Sunday in a setback to Atlanta, were held to only four hits — with two coming in a ninth inning in which the outcome was no longer in doubt. They’ve gone 0-6 on a homestand in which they have totaled only 10 runs. Over their past four games, the Marlins are hitting a paltry .140. BUMP. There's going to be a long list of missteps in this one.

Almost wishing we had Jordan Danks up there, but he undoubtedly would have struck out as well. At least we might have had one of his random shining moments, a walk-off grand slam or something....if he just closed his eyes, picked a location and swung.

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ May 20, 2015 -> 09:29 PM) Doesn't matter, Harper still shouldn't of gotten thrown out in the 3rd inning because he didn't get in the box quick enough. All about ego. Fans don't pay to see umpires show up players, though. If you only go to one Nationals' game per year with your family, how disappointing would that result be? And then have to explain it to your children...sigh.

QUOTE (fathom @ May 20, 2015 -> 09:38 PM) Righties twice as good as lefties vs Allen this year, and all 3 righties that inning reached. Good point. But it's the traditional textbook manager's response, LHB vs. RHP. I agree, though, Beckham was likely to at least make contact (this season)...somewhere. Shuck doesn't get enough playing time to maintain any type of offensive rhythm. Gordon's had a lot more AB's this year. Plus, the colder weather. All those elements would argue for using Beckham.

QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ May 20, 2015 -> 09:37 PM) One-run loss. Why the f*ck was Jennings kept in so long. Argh. If you don't believe in Petricka or Putnam, why are they even on the roster? Just for mop up? Does Ventura even look at the splits for Jennings? You just can't give up 3 runs in that inning. As Farmer and DJ always say, runs scored by the opposition from the 7th inning on have a way of coming back to bite you in the end. That was especially the case tonight. And Conor's got to be a bit more patient in that situation. The pressure's 100% on the pitcher. Same with Avi.

QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ May 20, 2015 -> 09:23 PM) This continuously empty ballpark nonsense - brought on by continuously failing ownership - just must stop at some point. It is beyond ridiculous. Reinsdorf's horrible management of this franchise needs to either figure out a way to improve this situation, or bow out in favor of a group that can. But our ballpark game after game, season after season, being as empty as it is - completely unacceptable at this point. Time for our fan base to demand something better! We could have had an extra 100-200 Indians' fans if it weren't for the Cavs/Hawks game, haha. Maybe tmrw.
